61 problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 2000 GMC Sierra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Slowing to stop, brake pedal wouldn't depress to stop truck, brake booster replaced 1st time, still in shop this time, struck curb to stop.
The vehicles tire size was not programmed into the electronic braking system when it left the factory and it was not calibrated for the tire size which caused the abs system not to operate properly resulting in extended stopping distance. Nlm.
Original equipment with firestone, wilderess at, p26575r16. While driving 5 mph braking system did not stop vehicle, may have been due to tires. Tread design did not give off traction which may have caused extended stopping distance and crash. Please provide further information.
Braking system (abs) operates very poorly, and results in extended stopping distance when traveling over gravel roads/bumpy roads, or railroad tracks. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
When bump is encountered while stopping brake pedal becomes rigid and vehicle picks up speed. At this point an emergency or panic stop would be impossible.
Vehicle has been recalled under recall 10178. Consumer has contacted local dealership, but dealership refused to perform recall repairs. Dealership is buzz post GMC in arlington, texas.
Brakes malfuction; when applying brakes they do not stop vehicle properly, causing extended stopping distance. Also, front bearings/ universal joint, and rear leaf spring assembly had to be replaced. Dealer / manufacturer notified . Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
When I press on the brake pedals on a sudden stop on bumpy roads at speeds over 30 mph, the brake pedal does not depress. The brake pedal vibrates and the vehicle does not stop properly. It takes the truck a longer time to stop than normal. This almost casued me to rear end cars on more than one ocassion. I had to take my foot of the brake pedal and reapply pressure to get firm brake pressure. When the brake pedal vibrates, it gives a false sense of abs working but the truck stops slower than if it were the abs. Sudden stops on bumpy roads are very dangerous.
When brake pedal was applied it went to the floor. The anti-skid brakes were heard engaging, but brakes did not respond. Consumer had to release the brakes, and apply the pedal again to stop. Dealer couldn't find the problem.
When having to make a sudden stop brake pedal will notdepress. Then, upon hitting it again , there was vibration. On rough roads it was impossible to stop. Might as well not had any brakes.
When applying brakes vehicle shakes, and braking distance is not what it should be.
While driving about 35 mph power steering and brakes went out at the same time. Also, horn did not work.
Ongoing problem with brake pedal going to the floor before stopping. Vehicle been in / out of dealer's shop on three occasions, and problem still occurring. Also, dealer informed consumer that this was a normal characteristic of braking system on those vehicles.
While driving at 45 mph consumer had to press the brake pedal all the way to the floor , then truck stopped. Dealer fixed problem after the third time.
While driving down the road traveling about 35mph, put foot on brakes and hit a bump in the road, and brakes went straight to the floor. Contacted dealer. Dealer was not able to help. They said brakes were working properly.
On loose dirt while traveling down hill brakes let go. The bottom of the truck hit the bottom of the hill, bending the front frame rails and front cross memeber. Driver was traveling about 30-40 mph when this happened. The problem has been reported to the dealership. Please provide further information.
2000 GMC Sierra truck had a recall in 2006 for severe corrosion areas. Consumer states that the recall was performed but two years later have the same problem and coverage was denied. Recall # 05v379000.
2000 GMC Sierra with defective abs system. Consumer stated that he took his vehicle in for a second time to repair the abs system. He stated in 2005 he had to get it repaired due to premature activation. The consumer requested that the recall be extended to cover recurrences of the same problems now and in the future.
Anti-lock brakes will lose power momentarily when striking potholes in the road. Dealership states that's normal operation. Owner had to let his foot off the brakes and depress pedal again, immediately, to stop truck. Please describe.
Rear leaf springs makes noise when vehicle goes over bumps. Vehicle has been repaired numerous times. Contacted GMC, and GMC stated that was the way vehicle was designed. The anti-lock brakes kickin when trying to stop on bumpy road and makes it impossible to stop the vehicle.
Intermittently when brakes are applied at various speeds pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has inspected vehicle on two occasions, and could not duplicate the problem. Please provide additional information.
When brakes were used in panic stop pedal became hard, resulting in extended stopping distances, causing a collision. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and replaced abs module. Please provide additional information.
While applying brakes as normal to approach a stop and driving over bump brakes will go to floor and fail for 2-3 seconds, and then evenutally stop about 3 car lenths later. Dealer cannot determine cause. 2. First start of day , backing out and applying brakes brakes will grab hard , this will occur about 3-4 times before brakes will work normally. The dealer stated that the brakes were normal, but the brakes were found going to the floor upon test driving.
