Vehicle started showing "service lane departure system, service park assist, service trailer brake system" alarms while driving. Upon taking it to the dealer for service it was found to have broken wiring for haptic motor for drivers seat. Not only did this cause a possible safety issue with the lane departure system and trailer brake system not working correctly, but it also caused a possible fire concern due to broken wiring.

3 Wiring problem of the 2012 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

Apparently gm uses peanut oil to lubricate wiring so they can more easily insulate, etc (accorging to the gm dealer). This attracts rats and mice which chew up the wiring - potentially impacting sensors and other items controlling cruise, stability/traction control, and any number of electrical systems that the driver may be relying upon for safety. I actually had map sensor wires chewed up that disabled my stability/traction systems and inhibited engine performance. Luckily for me it happened in my driveway rather than on the highway. Dealer claims it is not warranty item even though caused by a process that gm elects to use in building the vehicle. This could impact any/every vehicle that gm builds with use of peanut oil (may indeed be all of their models).

5 Wiring problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Heater motor continues to run after the switch is turned off, the blower only works randomly. I under stand there is a recall for this issue but my VIN is not included. This seems to be a problem in a number of different gm vichicles. There is a chance of electrical fire with the being able to run with the switch off also the report would not pull a list of parts nor would it permit me to type in the parts: heater motor blower resistor, and wiring connectors.

6 Wiring problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Failure of abs module caused abs light and red service brake lights to come on. Replacing both front hub bearings (including both front abs sensors and wiring) and repairing the ground strap on the frame for the abs system did not fix the problem. Service brake system has new calipers ,rotors, and pads and a full inspection revealed no problems or failures. Abs module is still on vehicle but will be replaced next.

8 Wiring problem of the 2007 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

The wire that connects the airbag "person in the seat" switch breaks when you put (slide) the seat all the way back. They know this and have not recalled the truck! they will not and are not going to pay to fix it. The airbag will not deploy when needed, is this a safety recall?.

9 Wiring problem of the 2009 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

2009 GMC Sierra had a incorrect marked wire for the trailer power. The consumer stated when connecting the trailer power, he connected the wire at the fuse panel marked trailer power feed. When there was no power at the trailer connection he contacted the dealer. They determined that the wire marked trailer power feed was not the trailer power feed wire. They disconnected the wire and connected a different wire which did in fact supply power to the trailer connection.

10 Wiring problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 02/06/2007

Day time running light burned out. When I replaced it the bottom of the bulb was burned and the plastic wiring socket was partially melted and brittle around the bulb base. I changed the bulb and the light still works. However, I also had trouble with one of my two horns not working, but after replacing the burned out bulb, both horns worked. Wiring seems to be in series with horn(s) and burned out bulb disables horn.

11 Wiring problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

Day time running light burned out. When I went to replace it (still the original bulb) the bottom of the bulb was burnt bad and the plastic wiring socket was starting to melt around the bulb base. I changed the bulb and the light still comes on. I thought I better check the headlights. Changed those bulbs but the wires look like they are blistering from over heating. Never did blow a fuse. Seems to me like wires are too small for the amps the lights draw, especially the daytime lights. No fire yet but seems like this could possibly set things up for a fire.

12 Wiring problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

The contact complained about many defects with this vehicle. The speedometer continually had an inaccurate read out while driving. The dealership believed this failure could be related to the wiring harness. Since they were unable to duplicate the problem no repairs were done. Also, the vehicle stalled at various speeds without warning. While the stalling occurred the contact pressed hard on the brakes to elevate the stalling. He believed this was due to the power brakes. The vehicle stalled on occasion and would not immediately restart. The dealership made numerous attempts to correct this problem w and all attempts have been unsuccessful. This included replacing the fuel pump and electrical control module.

15 Wiring problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

On may 31st, the rear end differential assembly exploded sending the pinon thru the housing and the rear axle caught on fire. The truck was in the shop (perry cheverolet, inc. , columbia, mo)until 6-9-03. When I arrived in bozeman, mt on 7-2-03 I was having problems with the wiring. There was a fire when I plugged the RV electrical plug into the truck's trailer plug. There was also a blown rear tail light bulb. In bozman, they replaced the complete wiring harness, the tow receptacle and 2 fuse kits. It was the opinion of the shop in bozeman (j. C. Billion, GMC) that the wiring damage was part of the original fire and differential assembly damage. Although GMC paid for my out of pocket expenses and for the waranty work, I am left to wonder what will happen next and just how safe am I going to be in this truck? I selected a truck bigger than what I needed at the current time, thinking that if I replaced my travel trailer in the future, I would not have to trade trucks also.

23 Wiring problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra

After fuel pump was replaced, the vehicle wouldn't start. While the vehicle was under warranty, it would not start. The fuel pump was changed but not the connector. The problem resurfaced and quit running numerous times. The service dealer stated that the fuel cap was not tight enough which caused this problem. (the cap was tightened) the vehicle stopped running while at a traffic light more than once. The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer and had to pay for repairs because the vehicle was then out of warranty. Several weeks later the problem recurred and the service dealer found no gas pressure and replaced the pump. The vehicle stopped again while the consumer was making a left turn. The consumer had taken upon himself to go under the vehicle and wiggled the wiring harness which started the vehicle. The service dealer changed the fuel pump connector harness. (the connector was burned and pitted).
