1 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/15/2026

The molding cover for the hood fell off by hwy speed, and recently we I went to oil change after I get the car the technician said the bolt for tie the oil thing is not correct and it’s not for this car and this was the reason for leaking and need to replace with right one.

2 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/14/2026

The upper grill chrome trim blew off at highway speed. The plastic brackets holding it in place sheared off. This was a known defect resulting in 70,000 recalled trucks for the prior year model (2022), but for some reason isn't covered for 2023. Same exact issue.

3 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/10/2026

Whilst driving down the highway at 65 mph the plastic front grill deflector broke off and slammed into my windshield and the vehicle behind me. Luckily the vehicle behind me sustained no damage other than how frightened she and her children were. This is a known issue and was subject to a recall for the 2022 GMC sierra denali's. Nothing has changed between the 2 models as far as I can tell and it's the exact same grill deflector. When I informed the dealership of this they told me it would be a $950 repair out of pocket. First of all, it is unacceptable for a $75,000 vehicle to have a plastic component that can just break off and become an immediate and unavoidable hazard on the highways. The recall must be extended to these vehicles. I have reached out to gm and they confirmed it would be an out of pocket expense, but I am escalating the situation. Thank you!.

4 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/08/2026

Vehicle: 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 sle VIN: [xxx] while driving southbound on [xxx] near exit [xxx], the front upper grille molding/deflector completely detached from my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 sle at highway speed and separated from the vehicle, creating a potential road hazard for other motorists. Prior to the complete separation, I noticed that the upper grille molding was becoming loose and lifting away from the vehicle. I stopped and photographed the component and its attachment areas. The photographs show failed/broken attachment points while the molding was still partially attached to the truck. Later, while driving on [xxx] to work, the remaining attachments failed and the entire molding separated from the vehicle. The part could not safely be recovered from the interstate. The vehicle recently underwent dealer service involving the active grille shutter/damper area near this component. I cannot determine whether that service contributed to the failure, so I am reporting it as part of the vehicle's recent service history rather than asserting it as the cause. I subsequently became aware that NHTSA recall 25v-060 / gm recall n242490120 addresses separation of a front upper grille deflector on certain GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles due to fractured attachment points. My vehicle is a 2023 model and does not presently appear to be included in that recall. Because my vehicle experienced a similar failure mode resulting in the exterior component completely separating at highway speed, I am submitting this complaint so NHTSA can determine whether this condition may extend beyond the vehicles currently covered by the recall. Photographs documenting the component and failed attachment areas before its complete separation are available. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

5 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/08/2026

While driving southbound on interstate 95 in florida, the front upper grille molding/deflector completely detached from my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 sle at highway speed and separated from the vehicle, creating a potential road hazard for other motorists. Prior to the complete separation, I noticed that the upper grille molding was becoming loose and lifting away from the vehicle. I stopped and photographed the component and its attachment areas. The photographs show failed/broken attachment points while the molding was still partially attached to the truck. Later, while driving on I-95, the remaining attachments failed and the entire molding separated from the vehicle. The part could not safely be recovered from the interstate. The vehicle recently underwent dealer service involving the active grille shutter/damper area near this component. I cannot determine whether that service contributed to the failure, so I am reporting it as part of the vehicle's recent service history rather than asserting it as the cause. 6 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/07/2026

I started to notice detached broken plastic pieces behind the upper grill housing. I notified the dealer, and in the meantime of trying to figure out what to do, the upper grill housing came detached when I was driving down the highway and flew up and back onto the highway. Sounds similar to safety recall n242490120, which was for 2022 model year trucks. Not sure why this stopped at 2022, but it happed on my 2023.

7 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 08/01/2026

My truck was serviced for the front chrome grill separation recall last year. On Saturday, 8/1/2026 while driving at highway speed the grill deflector separated from the vehicle violently. I was able to pull off of the highway and remove the part as only the passenger corner clip (with screw) was partially retaining the deflector. Upon looking at the "repair" or recall, the corrective action does not appear to have been done correctly per n242490120. The chrome coating was not scuffed let alone removed from the part and an insufficient amount of epoxy was used to attach this deflector. Damage was done to the hood and lower grill during this incident. I have had numerous and considerable issues with the purchasing/servicing dealership where I bought this truck.

8 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/30/2026

The front grille bezel mounting clips broke and it started to fly off while driving on the highway. Luckily, I was able to pull over before the last clip broke and took it off before it became a spear flying at the cars behind me. There is an active recall for this issue for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 models, but not 2023/2024 models (same body I believe).

9 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/27/2026

While driving my 2023 GMC sierra on the highway at highway speeds, a piece of the front grille suddenly detached and flew off the vehicle. There was no prior accident, impact, or external damage to the grille; the part failed and unclipped on its own due to defective manufacturing or weak retaining clips. This creates a severe safety hazard as the flying debris could have struck the windshield of the vehicles traveling behind me, potentially causing a major accident. I am aware that the 2022 GMC sierra has an active recall (n242490120) for this exact same issue, yet gm is refusing to cover this 2023 model under warranty or recall despite presenting identical component failure.

10 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/26/2026

The grill deflector flew off while driving on the highway. I was driving roughly 55 mph. It is available now, but will be getting repaired in the near future. My concern is that it appears that this was an issue with the 2022 models and it’s still an issue on the 2023. The safety issue is if there was a vehicle or motorcycle behind me that it could have harmed whoever could have been driving behind me, caused and accident, or damaged their vehicle or mine in the process. The service advisor (j. R. ) told me that “sometimes the wind gets underneath the bezel and makes it snap”. No it has not been inspected by any of this mentioned. No warning signs prior to the incident.

11 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/16/2026

While driving at highway speed in normal traffic, the upper front grill deflector detached from the vehicle and struck the windshield, cracking the windshield. This appears consistent with the defect that is the subject of safety recall n24290120.

12 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/07/2026

The upper hood trim that sits above the grill, flew off on the interstate at approx 80 mph. Upon research this is a common problem for this make and model in years of 22-24. Gm has a service bulletin for this issue as well as the NHTSA. For this particular failure. There was no warning and when I contacted gm they were unwilling to assist as "service bulletins" are not recalls and the vehicle is out of warranty. There was no warning, no indicator, it just blew off and I had no idea until I got home and the piece was missing. I was unable to locate the part on the interstate, however I was able to keep all of the pieces attached to the vehicle for evidence and support. I am beside myself anyone thought this was acceptable to sustain the force of air flow!.

13 Body problem of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/07/2026

My 2026 GMC sierra has an oil-canned roof from a touchless car wash because the sheet metal lacks structural rigidity. This caused the roof to buckle and caused a permanent fold in the roof of the truck. There is already documented issues for this exact problem on the newer GMC canyons and Chevrolet colorado mid-sized trucks. Bulletin for reference NHTSA official TSB #23-na-209 pdf. I leased the vehicle on 6/19/2026 and this happened on approximately 7/7/2026. The vehicle only has 1,480 miles on it as of this date.

14 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/07/2026

My grill deflector suddenly flew off, hit my windshield a flew into a semi hauling oil field equipment. We both pulled over and found no significant damage to his truck. I have a two inch scratch on my windshield and possibly lite hood scratching. Dealership required me to pay $390. 73 but said I would be reimbursed for my losses. It never happened. Now I’m fighting with gm to get some resolution. This could be deadly for a motorcycle rider for sure. Hundreds of people reporting same issue on 22 and 23 sierras and at4’s.

15 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/03/2026

On July 3,2026 I was driving my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 on the highway at a speed of 70mph when the front chrome deflector flew off my vehicle. It tore paint off the hood, and also cracked my windshield. I searched online and noticed this had a safety recall for this issue. I see the recall was done in January 2026, and has failed completely. I still have the service records of previous repair. Gm is giving me issues on finding a remedy to fix this.

16 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/27/2026

The grill deflector near the hood flew off on the highway … took it to the dealership and they only have a recall for the chrome 22 GMC sierra grill deflector for the same issue but not the elevation black . . No warning lamps or lights it flew out of know where no warranty to cover it.

17 Body problem of the 2021 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/26/2026

There is a water leak in the rear passenger compartment of my vehicle. Unsure where water is coming from. Continued leaking poses a risk to my safety as I may be exposed to black mold as well as anyone else who is riding in my vehicle. The problem hasn’t been addressed by the dealer yet but this is a known issue. At this point I have spoken with a representative from the service department at the dealership but cannot get an appointment for several weeks. I was also advised that the problem would need to be diagnosed before being addressed at my cost due to being outside of the warranty period. There were no warning lights or any other signs that this is occurring and was only discovered because I was putting something in the back seat on 6/26/26.

18 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/18/2026

I was driving down the highway and the front upper grille deflector flew off while at highway speeds. Due to the nature of being on a highly congested bridge, the grill piece flying off could've seriously injured not only myself, but other motorist around me. There is currently a gm recall (n242490120) out however, it only affects the 2022 model trucks. This makes no sense as this issue has been reported via threads and discussions on the internet for 2023 year models like mine numerous times. This is a serious issue and should be recalled just like the 2022 models. Not only am I now paying for a manufactuer defect out of pocket, but who's to say that the "new" part doesn't do the same thing and either I or another motorist is seriously injured or worse. . . Killed.

19 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/17/2026

The front grill deflector sheared off of the truck when driving in the highway. The highway speed was 65 mph and the deflector flew out in to traffic. There was no warning or symptom prior to the problem or failure. This is a common ongoing issue with the same make/model of the previous year 2022 with an actual open recall unfortunately.

20 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/16/2026

The attachment points for the upper chrome grille deflector have fractured, causing the trim piece to detach completely while driving and fly over my windshield which startled me and made me swerve dangerously. This is a known recall for the truck year before me and should clearly affect my truck too since the same description happens here.

21 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/16/2026

The front grille/hood trim flew off driving down the highway. No, it is not available the cheap plastic shattered. My safety was put at risk b/c parts are flying off the truck that should never. More importantly other people's safety is put at risk b/c a long sharp plastic piece is flying off a large truck driving down the highway!! yes, glenn polk has seen the damage and can confirm. No, no one else has inspected it yet but you gladly can, it doesn't take a genius to see that the cheap pos plastic was terrible engineering by gm. There were no warnings or indications that the piece was even loose.

22 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/09/2026

I was driving down the highway and the top grill trim 84957848 part number, flew off. Hit my windshield. Could’ve caused the small car behind me to blow a tire or damaged their vehicle.

23 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/07/2026

Bezel flew off on highway. Subsequently, dealer service had to replace both the bezel and grill bc of how it was attached. For some reason the VIN was not included in a recall of 70k trucks that were same year make and model as mine. I would like to be included in the recall.

24 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/30/2026

On 05/30/26, during normal operation of my vehicle (2022 GMC sierra elevation) at about 50mph the upper grille molding became detached while on the highway. The safety of other cars or motorcycles was placed at risk because the part could have impaled or impacted myself through a windshield or someone driving behind me. The problem has been known to exist in other similar models and an existing recall does exist for those models (n242490120 chrome grille deflector may detach). On 06/01/26 the vehicle was taken to a kelly Buick GMC, inc where it was assessed. According to the representative, even though I have not been the only one to report the problem with a different model than that specified on the recall number, they refused to cover the cost of repairs because my VIN does not fall into the recall specifications. Absolutely no other symptoms were noted prior to the part failure no rattling, whistling or any visible signs.

25 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2026

Top grill deflector flew off at highway speeds creating a safety hazard for me and others in the highway. 2022 GMC sierra with the same part and grill was previously recalled for this identical issue. 2022-2026 models have the same problem and should be included in the recall. Please see safety recall n242490120.

26 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/25/2026

I was driving, my front grill protector that was fixed with recall flew off again. This needs to be fixed. The part flew off hit my window and almost hit two cars that were behind me. This could of resulted in a bad accident. No warnings, it just happened.

27 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/21/2026

Driving down the interstate and the front trim bezel on the hood flew off. The plastic clips broke from underneath. Gm had a recall on this same issue in 2022 but not 2023 yet. Could of had an accident with the piece flying off at interstate speeds.

28 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/16/2026

The front upper grille deflector detached and hit my windshield and bounced off behind me during a drive at normal highway speeds. This created a random flying debris object that appears to have been a problem with the 2022 and later Sierra 1500 models; however, the recall only appears to address the 2022 model. It also appears quite common for the 2024 year model as well. Vehicle has never been in an accident so nothing beyond typical use would have caused damaged to the connections. The plastic connectors appeared to have failed.

29 Body problem of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/14/2026

The front grille deflector on my GMC sierra flew off my truck on a windy day, hit my windshield hard but luckily did not crack it. A vehicle behind me did swerve out of the way to avoid the flying grille deflector but no accident luckily occurred. The piece is damaged but I was able to recover it. I had called the dealership I bought this vehicle at ( around June of 2025) they had confirmed this recall was “fixed” a few months prior to my purchase of the vehicle. Question from me would be, would my local certified gm dealership be able to provide this recall fix? I do not necessarily like the idea of taking back a potential highway safety hazard 2 hours away from my home on the interstate 70 mph back home once this is fixed / repaired with glue/ epoxy that may need 24-48 hours of drying time to cure. Also how can I trust the dealership who “fixed” this issue for it not to happen again?.

30 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/11/2026

The plastic upper rail glass guide frame on the rear sliding window assembly of my 2023 GMC sierra developed structural micro-cracks during normal vehicle operation. This manufacturing defect is a known issue tracked internally by the manufacturer under technical service bulletin (TSB) #18-na-383. This structural failure allows severe water intrusion into the passenger cabin. The leaking water runs straight down the inside back wall of the cab, completely flooding and corroding sensitive, factory-installed electronic safety modules mounted directly beneath the leak path. This continuous water intrusion caused the catastrophic electrical failure and corrosion of the video processing control module located behind the rear seat. The sudden failure of this module completely disabled the rearview digital mirror camera and the 360-degree perimeter driver assistance cameras, creating immediate blind spots and an active driving safety hazard while operating the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected and repaired by an authorized dealership, confirming the rear window leak as the direct cause of the electronic destruction. The out-of-pocket cost to replace the water-damaged safety components was $2,747. 00. Because the manufacturer refused to cover the replacement of the defective rear glass assembly, the structural leak remains unresolved. This active water intrusion continues to flood the cabin, creating a health hazard via mold growth and guaranteeing that the newly replaced safety cameras will inevitably short-circuit and fail again.

31 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

It was the chrome grille deflector and is available for inspection. I was driving down a long road at roughly 50 mph when all of a sudden the grille deflector detaches from my bumper and hits my windshield causing me to swerve thinking I had hit something. I was almost in an accident. I believe there is a recall for this exact thing but only for 2022 models not 2023. No it has not been inspected I tried to call gm to get guidance and see if it could possibly be covered seeing as it is a manufacture error but was denied. One small piece that has been recalled on other vehicles but mine is causing me to almost pay $900 dollars. I have yet to replace the part.

32 Body problem of the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/09/2026

Upper grille detachment while driving on the interstate at 70 mph at night ,hit the windshield. Could not find it.

33 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/08/2026

As I was driving down the highway the hood front molding flew off and took a chunck of paint off my GMC 2023 at4, hitting a elderly ladies windshield we pulled over there was no damage to her car thankfully, she was very shakin and gave me an ear full. I have reached out to GMC even took it in and left it overnight and they say it is not under the recall and it will cost $1200. 00 to fix. We currently own 3 GMC's, this one is mine (a woman) and she is my baby. I do not think it is fair that my truck matches the exactly damage you see on the trucks on the recall list, a service man also told me that they replaced one of them that was recalled and shortly after it to broke and flew off. If there is anything someone can do help, I know I am not the only one this is happening too. Thank you j.

34 Body problem of the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

The tailgate intermittently opens while driving or parked.

35 Body problem of the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/03/2026

Driving on the highway and the top section of the grill (approx 4" x 50") broke loose and went over the cab of the truck. The piece didn't hit my truck or any other vehicle, but the driver behind me swerved to avoid it. All of the clips that hold the chrome piece to the vehicle are still attached to the body. I made contact with the local dealer's service dept. And was told my VIN was not in a recall for this issue. I contacted gm customer care and was told the recall hasn't been extended to my vehicle and that I would have to pay for the replacement. If gm extends the recall to the other known issue model years I could be reimbursed. There seems to be numerous other complaints of this issue that aren't covered by gm.
