At approximate 36700 miles. Upper top molding piece next to the grill, flew off while driving down the highway at 75mph hit my windshield and cracked it. Lucky no one was flowing me. This is the second one that's has broken. The first time was driving in south dakoda the day after I purchased the truck and one side broke so I was able to stop at a truck stop and duck tape it until I was able to take it to the dealer. This seams to be a flaw, because read this has happen to multiple truck of the same model.

The electronic tailgate randomly opens on it's own/fails and opens when it has not been pushed to open. The vehicle is available for inspection. The tailgate opens randomly and can be unknown that it is open. No warning of it at all. It has happened multiple times, the most recent being today 4/7/2025. I know that a recall has happened with other models for this exact same issue.

Tailgate comes unlatched and tailgate came down multiple times in motion and parked. Safety concerns loosing cargo and causing accidents. My vehicle is not included in the recall and dealer cannot help only repair for 146. 80. I feel that my vehicle should be included to the already existing recall and reimbursement for repair.
Paint is chipping on the body of truck. Door panels and more.
We have a 2014 GMC sierra 4. 3 v6 6 speed automatic. . With only 100k miles and the frame is rusted and cracked rear shocks mounts are rusted and broke and the leaf spring mounts are rusted and they broke. . This should be a recall issue. .

Upper grille came off and fractured windshield while going down the highway it is a non serviceable part by gm which I believe is strategic seeing that they’ve had issues with earlier models of the the truck you have to buy an entire replacement grille for one issue that shouldn’t be happening was never able to locate part, I assume plastic grille clips dry rotted noticed the part lifted a bit before the entire part failed thought someone was trying to break into my truck . The wind while going down the highway caused them to fail, I’ve seen multiple GMC sierras with the same grille issue, I uploaded before and after pictures of how the truck looked before and after pictures .
2025 GMC Sierra 1500 shifted from park to drive uncommanded, accelerated uphill, and crashed while idling, keyfob outside of vehicle, March 2025. Esis couldn't replicate and falsely claimed I didn't put it in drive, despite photos and no one inside.
N242490120 is applicable for 2022 models but my 2023 also had the same problem; the grille upper cover broke at the taps and detached from the grille structure.

The grill piece that is recalled flew off while I was driving on the highway on March 14th. I called the dealership that day to get my truck in but could not be seen until April 21st. After having the vehicle at the dealership they said the part to replace is backorder with no eta of when it will be available.
Driving at highway speed the upper part of the front grill assembly detached at the hood, hitting the windshield on the drivers side causing the windshield to shatter in front of the driver. The piece flew back and hit the car behind me. This would have been an accident with a less experienced driver.
Tailgate opened on highway with cargo in bed. Also tailgate opens randomly when parked. This has happened many times, creating very dangerous and unexpected situations numerous contacts to the manufacturer have been unsuccessful in getting the hazard placed on recall. Numerous incidents. Keeps happening.

Front grill upper trim piece ripped off after strong wind gust while driving at highway speed. Grill flew up and hit windshield causing small glass chip. This event occurred on 2/13/25 and this item is now a known gm recall for this vehicle which was issued on 2/11/25.
The tailgate on my truck opened while I was driving and I was unaware until I got to my destination. I had a utility trailer attached at the time and my tailgate was damaged from the jack on the trailer. I thought maybe I didn't latch the tailgate but it has been several days since I opened it. The following day the tailgate dropped two more times in less than a mile. I see there is a service bulletin and recall on most gm models but my truck is not included. I made a service appointment at my local dealership for them to inspect. The service writer already stated that my truck has no open recalls. I feel this is a safety issue first and second my truck has body damage. I use my truck as a truck and usually have stuff in the bed. My truck is completely stock with no modifications except a GMC bed cover that I purchased at the dealership. I'm hoping for the best on Monday 2/17/25 when I take my truck in to be inspected.
1. During December 2024, noticed the wrap or called grill part at the back of the truck detached 2. On 5th February, got a warning :reduce acceleration with caution, when I pressed gas pedal, could not go faster than 35mph, the truck was shaking really hard. It has been in the dealership waiting for valve body until today 13th March, still no idea when it will be fixed.
The front chrome grill on my Sierra 1500 slt has begun to detach, and there is currently a recall for this specific component on my vehicle. I took my truck to GMC covert bee cave to get this recall and 1 other recall fixed, but gm does not have a remedy for grill. Not only does this pose a safety risk to myself, but I use my truck as a source of income by renting it out on turo, and turo has unlisted my truck from the app indefinitely or until this remedy is resolved. The paperwork I received from the dealership confirms gm has no remedy for the recall, and they sent me on my way without even offering a replacement vehicle. My truck is available for inspecting if you would like to see it. My safety and others safety is at risk if this recall does not receive a remedy or if gm does not give me a replacement vehicle in the meantime. No warning lights or any other systems can notify me if the grill is going to detach all the way, and I will not be able to have this source of income from turo without the ability to have my truck relisted.
While driving on the highway my front grill upper molding flew off and hit my hood and windshield. It ended up landing in the middle of the highway and other vehicles running it over.
The chrome front grill deflector is loose and feels like it is going to fly off at any moment. There have not been any accident or collision with the vehicle for this to be my fault. I know all the 2022 GMC sierras got recalled for this issue but dealership said my vehicle isn’t covered even though is the same issue.
Driving at highway speeds 60 mph. The upper grille (as GMC calls it) came off of the truck, hit my windshield and the car behind me also hit it. This is a known gm problem and they are not issuing a recall on this. We are lucky the car behind me didn't suffer any damage nor swerve to miss the flying piece of my vehicle. This is a huge safety concern that needs to be addressed. A quick google search will reveal many other people having this same issue. Some stating damage to their vehicle as a result.
I was driving on [xxx] in louisiana and the front grille fin break free, struck my windshield and then landed in the middle of the interstate. Thankfully no one struck it behind me. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was on the interstate going 60-70 mph and I noticed that my front upper trim of the grille was flapping and then just flew off my grille.
Tailgate opened/unlocked while parked during rain and light snow. The tonneau cover disguised that the tailgate was open (held it up just enough so it was not visable). The tailgate fell open while driving but went unnoticed. Several large and expensive items were lost out of the back of the truck which is used as a work truck for electrical services. This has happened twice on the roads. Now the tailgate is physically checked before driving to ensure it will not fall open. The incident was mentioned to the local gm dealer but we were told our model was not part of the recall. Our next call will be to gm directly to try to remedy the problem and hopefully recoup the items lost.
Entering a freeway and getting up to speed, the moulding between my grille and hood flew off. I was not able to recover it, therefore it has not been inspected by anyone. Luckily, this happened at night when there were very few drivers on the road, but had it happened during a busy time, it is likely that piece would have hit another vehicle(s). It has been reported as a problem on many forums. This happened without warning and there were no warnings after it occurred.
I was driving home from work on the highway, when the top part of the front grill broke off and flew up hitting the windshield. It caused me to abruptly swerve into the other lane of the highway. Luckily there was nobody in the other lane. The part could of also hit another car that was behind me. Going on line, I see this is quite common issue for 2022 GMC trucks and it occurs on the same conditions, driving down the highway. I suggest a recall to get this fixed.
While driving approximately 70mph down the freeway the upper grille assembly snapped off and went airborne, it struck the passenger side of my windshield putting 2 large scratches on my windshield. It then hit the roof of the vehicle and continued over my vehicle. Upon inspection the guard is held on by extremely thin clips and all clips sheared in almost identical spots. This creates a huge safety hazard for motorists behind the vehicle that could be struck by the flying piece.
While driving on the interstate at 75 mph, the top trim from my grill flew off unprovoked hitting my windshield and roof of the truck. Luckily there wasn't anyone behind us but the noise definitely spooked myself and the passenger not knowing what just hit the windshield. I took it into the dealer from who I purchased the truck and told the entire grill must be replaced for a whopping $1571. 26 not covered under warranty. The truck only has 24000 miles on it and cost near $80k. Thanks GMC!! scorned customer.
As I was traveling down the interstate at about 70 mph the front upper grille moulding flew off and almost hit the vehicle behind me. The clips that held this on the vehicle are very weak and this is happening to many of the same vehicles. Had I hit a car behind me there could have been significant damage, and luckily there was not a motorcyclist behind me. I did not hear any rattling or have any damage to the vehicle, this is simply a manufacturer's issue.
As I was driving on the highway the upper top moulding from the grill came off causing scratches to the hood. This is dangerous if it flies off into the windshield. This has been an issue for GMC.
The vehicle’s frame has severely rusted to the point of structural compromise. My certified mechanic determined on December 10, 2024, that the frame could not pass the state safety inspection due to advanced corrosion. Welding is now required to restore structural integrity. The truck has remained inoperable and sidelined since that date. The frame is available for inspection upon request, and I have photos, repair invoices, and a mechanic’s written evaluation. This same frame was previously reworked by GMC twice: may 7, 2018 – frame treated for premature rust. November 4, 2019 – frame recoated after prior treatment failed due to improper descaling. Despite these reworks under GMC direction, the issue has progressed to a dangerous level. The structural integrity of the frame is compromised. A severely rusted frame puts occupants and others on the road at risk in the event of a collision, towing, or even regular driving. A weakened frame could lead to loss of vehicle control, failure to protect occupants in a crash, or catastrophic breakage of suspension or driveline components while in motion. Yes. The problem has been confirmed by an independent certified mechanic, who inspected the frame and advised that the rust is beyond surface level and requires welding to repair. They refused to weld during winter due to safety concerns and advised that the truck could not be driven or pass inspection in its current state. The vehicle was previously serviced under GMC’s direction in 2018 and 2019 by a GMC dealer (weird GMC) to address early frame corrosion. However, the current failure has not yet been inspected by GMC directly since becoming undriveable in late 2024. I have reached out to GMC customer assistance and am awaiting a response. There were no dashboard warning lights or alerts for this issue. The only indications were visible signs of rust, which rapidly worsened after the 2019 rework. My mechanic noted signs of significant corrosion during routine servicing.
Driving on the highway, the upper grill molding on the leading edge of the hood broke off and came up and hit the windshield and top of the cab. Upon further research online, this seems to be a pretty common occurrence on sierras with the at4 trim package. I was told by the dealership that extended warranty does not cover this and I would have to order an entire new grille, over $1000.
While driving down the highway, then without any warning the front upper lip of truck grille flew off randomly. The broken piece shattered windshield and caused damage to body of vehicle. Reported to dealer, but they said I must have hit something to cause the damage. I did not hit anything. I was simply driving down the highway. This was a failure of the truck.
While driving home from work, on the highway. Travelling 68 mph. The upper moulding on the front grille blew off, struck my windshield and landed on the highway behind me. Vehicles behind me had to swerve and slow as a result. I waited for a safe time to pull over and turn around to go back and retrieve the piece. Once retrieved, I could see the plastic clips had broken. Some are still missing. Wry dangerous situation, luckily it was not dark outside, otherwise I imagine other vehicles behind me may not have seen it, could have caused a bad accident.
Upper trim piece of grill broke off while traveling down roar at 60mph. Part struck my windshield and flew over cab of vehicle and impacted the vehicle traveling behind me. Could've caused a much more serious accident!.
Upper trim on front grille fly off while driving. All clips were broken, very thin plastic. This piece of trim nearly hit the vehicle behind me while driving 45-50mph. I've noticed there are many owners experiencing the same issue. The trim piece is separate from the grille but gm will only sell the full grille replacement. The upper piece needs to be redesigned for safety purposes and replaced on all similar models.
My 2023 sierra has an issue with the tailgate opening at any given time while in park. The dealer denied such issue until I noted a gm recall on the tailgate switch becoming contaminated with water. My issue is the amount of items, such as tools, half full plastic gas cans, shovel, etc, that I have lost out the rear of my vehicle endangering other motorists. My tailgate has become damaged, mostly paint damage, however I am more concerned about the public's safety and other gm trucks with the same growing issue. It was not until my dead battery (in a 2023 vehicle) caused me to discover the tailgate issue was connected to the short in the release switch. I also have a tonneau cover so I cannot see the tailgate and the truck gives no indication of the tailgate being down. This problem began within a few months after purchase.
