Brake Light On Problems of GMC Sierra 1500 - part 1

I was sold an unsafe vehicle for work/comute family. The dealership mislead me and lied to me about warranty and even after I paid $10,0000 cash I was wrongfully done by this bussiness by no means was the bussiness trying to conduct good bussiness with me and I also have a dissability and a child with a disability. Incident date: 5/9/2024 description: I purchased a 2006 GMC sierra $10,000 cash was given and paid off but I was scammed by the dealership. I bought this vehicle under the impression that I was being sold a good safe vehicle for work and my families needs are also a priority. I never test drove the vehicle till I drove home after purchasing it. Not even 4 mins on the road and I noticed the abs light came on the dashboard with the brake light and the front brakes began to smoke. I contacted the dealship but was disregarded and not offered an exchange or any type of solution for my problem I even explained my job required me to use my vehicle for transporting material for work and since I was in charge of 4 people that woul be requireing skills for customer service and making sure all customers were satisfied. Pacifi northwest motorsports took advantage of my impariment I feelscammed and I want to have my money back or at least exchange for the value of $10,000. I was never offered any type of sloution from the bussiness the owner laughed at me and said that it sucked to be me and hung up the phone on me. The bussinness owner lied to the attorney generals office about offereing me a remedy the only remedy I would consider is my money back and an exchange for my troubles I feel that this is a vehicle manufacturer malfuncunctiom. I'm still having the sa,e problem with my brakes . . Please help I have tried repairing the problem, numerous times to be unsuccessful .

Tl the contact owns a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while reversing out of midway motors Buick GMC in newton (1124 washington rd, newton, KS 67114) the brakes failed when depressed. The service brakes assist light illuminated. The contact notified the dealer however, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle already had an unknown recall repair for brakes serviced and the vehicle was over the warranty coverage. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

On two separate occasions, the truck has been dead when attempting to crank. There were no lights or devices left on after the previous time the truck had been used. Something is drawing power from the battery causing it to be dead. After recharging the battery, the check engine codes read that there is a problem with �brake light illumination. � help in determining wha t is causing the battery to die on such a new vehicle would greatly appreciated! I'm uncertain at this time as to whether or not the brake light illumination is causing a safety hazard.

At low speeds the brakes get very hard to press and the truck takes longer to stop. The service brake light has came on sometimes when this occurs. I've seen an open recall for the exact problem with my truck, but when I enter my VIN it says my truck is not part of the recalled vehicles. Please help me.

Was not notified by gm concerning the recall for the electronic parking brake service light coming on. Light came on this morning after starting the vehicle in the driveway. Researched the internet to discover there was a recall. Had a recall concerning the brake pad life completed recently.

I bought this vehicle in July of 2019 from a GMC dealership in duncansville PA. In late November on my way to work randomly my service stabili trak, abs, assisted steering, and brake light lit up on my dash every 30 seconds repetitively for the remainder of the trip (3 hours). I work 4 hours from home for 2 weeks at a time I spend very little time in my vehicle during this time. I seen the lights come up randomly while out of town also. Once my work weeks were over on my way home the problem persisted. I took it for an oil change and recall late December. They told me they could not replicate any lights nor were they showing any codes. As of last month the problem is getting worse to the point were I am completely losing my power steering sometimes for days at a time. Last week I took my vehicle down for another recall sent from gm specifically for my VIN I was told there wasn't any issues or codes. All they could find is a communications error and they would need to keep it for a few days and sent me on my way home until they had a loaner vehicle available. One week later after several attempts to get my truck in I still have a lit up dash, no power steering, and not a clue when it'll even be able to be looked at since I leave for work in 2 days. This is a common problem from what I have read and can be extremely dangerous especially in winter/snow/icy conditions. I need a vehicle that I can feel safe in that I can travel without worrying around every turn if my power steering is going to shut off and I'm going to have to power a vehicle around a turn or to avoid an accident. I feel like my problem is being brushed under the rug. On my way home that day just 2 miles from my house my power steering went out and I slid off the road fortunately I live in the country and nothing was in the field I slid into. I have photos and videos of the lights flashing off and on.

Started truck and many services lights came on service esc, brakes lights, steering lights all warnings. On star called and said I had a brake failure. I was backing out of driveway and could hardly stop the truck as I was approaching the road.

Dear NHTSA, I recently leased a 2019 GMC sierra pickup truck. This truck is currently in the shop for the 6th time, and neither gm or the local dealership can seem to fix anything on this truck. Most recently, as yesterday I had my car in for the braking system. The dealership called me and said my truck was fixed. As I turned my truck on, the brake system light came on. I was told by the dealership to just drive it and it will go away. I do not feel this is a good/safe practice and gm is not helping me to get out of this unsafe truck.

Tl- the contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the brake failure light had illuminated and the vehicle would not immediately stop when pressing the brake pedal. Several warning lights had displayed including the power steering, abs, trailer towing warning massage indicating the vehicle would not above 62 mph. The steering wheel had become difficult to turn in either direction. The failure had occurred on two separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer fairway Chevrolet(3100 e. Sahara Ave, las vegas, nv) the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 1400. Jft.

Experienced an unusual reaction to breaking. A few days later I had brake warning lights on the dash. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they had to replace the cylinder brake master and the brake booster and add new fluid. Which I paid for. Now I see there may be other issues as there are other complaints you're investigating. I want to put mine on record.

60k miles. Service brake assist light came on after 1 hour drive. At low speeds, brake pedal is extremely difficult to depress (as if no power brakes on antique vehicle), truck does not stop as needed. Diagnostic check from onstar does not show any code.

I was driving down i20 in dallas in rush hour traffic, the traffic was heavy but moving at 70 miles an hour. I saw brake lights in from of me, when I pressed the brake to slow down the brake pedal was hard, I could not press it with one foot and I could not slow down. I finally was able to slow down by putting both feet on the pedal with all my weight it felt like it was forever before I was able to slow down. I thought I was going to be unable to stop. I drove another 15 minutes going very slow and scared. Parked my truck in the drive and had a tow truck pull it to the dealership closest to my house. My truck only has 58,000. I really was scared for my life if you have ever driven in rush hour dallas traffic you understand . I could have lost my life or be seriously injured. The dealership told me today they had not heard of this issue. The dealership said they doubt GMC can do anything about the problem. The service department said was a vacuum pump on the breaks. I looked on line and others have reported this same issue. I could have been killed. Still shaking over the incident . I hope this problem is addressed before someone is killed.

I lost my brakes while driving. The brake pedal went to floor. Took it to GMC dealer where purchased and was told it was corroded brake lines which had to be replaced. $1300 total cost. No brake warning light ever appeared!!! no other rust/corrosion was visible on truck body except for brake lines. Was told this was an issue of all GMC/chev. Trucks from that time span.

Takata recall abs & parking brake light coming on. Clean connections, lights went out. Went down the road about 3 miles, lights came back on. Sometimes starting up in the morning, lights will be off. Get down the road about 3 to 5 miles lights come back on. According to internet there is a bad soldering connection in the control module. Has this been a recall at any time. When lights come on, electric brakes to trailer are in optimal.

Brake lights stay on. Due to brake lights staying on cruise control is disabled. Vehicle brake opertation is doing the opposite, when in motion stay on and when slowing down or stopped brake lights turn off. Called GMC and informed there is a recall for the same year but for the chevy malibu. Took vehicle in for repair to repair and paid to have the body control module replaced on 02/15/2016, almost 7 months later the issue has returned. Attempted to have dealership that replaced part look at but told there is only a 12,000 mile or 12 month warranty and vehicle has reached over the 12,000 so no longer under warranty. We were also informed the was only a "temporary fix, and the bcm doesn't fix the breaks. " dealership claims the second part that needed to be replaced,which we declined, would have permanently fix the issue. Part had already been purchased at $10 and was going to be charged by dealership $150 for them to provide and install. Called GMC customer service for assistance to correct this safety issue. GMC called to inform us that as a courtesy and the approval by the managers at dealership, will be able to give a $2000 voucher towards a new vehicle or used. Called days later as voucher did not come through via email and informed unfortunately voucher as the vehicle must be under 100,000 mile for trade in. Per GMC customer service at this time unable to resolve correcting the safety issue with body module control and it would be the expense of customer to replace again after its been replaced a little over 7 months ago. Very frustrated as driver of the vehicle is 8 months pregnant and due to break lights not working may get into an accident. We were not informed this would only be a temp fix. When pulling in my driveway the brake lights came on and the brake pedal went clear to the floor. Upon investigating I found the brake lines to be severely corroded. I was fortunate not to be driving at a faster rate of speed on the open road. That same week the steering had become very difficult to turn like it was low on fluid, which it was not. I have also had to have both front wheel bearings replaced along with the computer at 400 miles.

Coming to a stop sign I applied the brakes and they completely failed without warning; no lights or indication failure was imminent. The pedal went to the floor with no resistance. Managed to turn onto a dirt shoulder and downshift to stop. Inspection revealed rusted through rear brake line. Although the dash brake warning light comes on while starting the truck, it goes off and gives no indication the brake fluid is low. While repairing the brake lines it was noticed the frame of the truck is extremely rusty and flaking. After wire-brushing by hand,the frame is showing cracks on both sides, under the cab, near the rear, right about where a crossmember is attached. This vehicle is no longer safe to drive. I am not impressed with gm's claim that this was a lighter, stronger frame on this truck. We have 2 older trucks with nowhere near this much rust and neither have cracked. The design allows too much crud to accumulate inside the lip of the frame where it is almost impossible to wash out.

While driving in town, I depressed the brake pedal to slow for a stop sign traveling under 25 mph. The pedal pressure felt firm/normal for a brief second and then went nearly to the floor and I was barely able to stop. The brake light on the dash did not illuminate until approximately the 10th time I tried to stop. If there had been someone in front of me or I was traveling in a higher speed zone, I most certainly would not have stopped in time. The diagnosis is the rear brake line rusted through. I've been told by several mechanics that all the brake lines will have to be replaced as they are all so rusted no one line can be replaced without damaging the rest of the lines because of their close proximity to each other. I can't find anyone that will take on the job.

While driving on interstate 295 I noticed the brake light come on so I checked the emergency brake to make sure it wasn't pushed in I pulled over at the next rest stop I looked over truck all seemed ok after restarting light was off then came on while driving again as I got to my exit pedal went to the floor scary as hell but the truck did stop as I stepped all the way down . I proceeded home checked brake fluid none at all I added some and could see after I started and pumped brakes the fluid was spurting out a line onto under carriage I took to my tech he said its a known problem with chevy GMC and would cost close to $1500. 00 right now im unemployed and cant afford to have it fixed please help, help, help!.

I was backing out of my garage when suddenly the brake pedal went to the floor. After the brake pedal went to the floor the abs brake warning light and service brakes light came on. I was able to push down on the emergency brake pedal before striking my other truck which was parked behind me. Being somewhat mechanically inclined, I saw a line of brake fluid on the ground in front of the truck extending beneath it. I looked underneath the truck, almost directly below the drivers seat and saw a bundle of steel brake lines that were nothing but a solid mass of rust and dripping brake fluid! the rusting is so bad that I can't tell whether it's one or all of the brake lines rusted through! since I'm retired (and don't have to drive in bad weather) and have another older truck I drive most of the time, the GMC has rarely seen bad weather (I purchased it new) and when it did it was always pressure washed (underneath) at the car wash immediately after the snow or ice had ended! my brother who is a mechanic recently had to replace all the rusted brakes lines on a 2005 chevy truck.

Brakes worked perfectly to stop vehicle on a steep downward hill in order to open a gate at the bottom of the hill of my driveway. After the gate was opened the vehicle proceeded down the hill coasting and there was a total break failure when trying to slow down. The pedal went to the floor with no brakes whatsoever. The vehicle crashed into a tree to avoid going over a cliff. The vehicle has been well maintained with no warning of brake failure. Front and rear breaks failed at the same time. No warning brake light indicator on dash ever went on. This occurred on my property and driver and a passenger were both injured. Body shop indicated that the brake lines rusted out. This could have been a fatality if the failure took place on the road.

I was at my local coffe shop drive thru. I left the drive thru and as I approched the exit, rolling very slow I expierienced the dreaded gm brake failier. My foot went to the floor. Luckily I was able to use the emergency brake before involountarily merging onto a busy secondary road. I understand rust is inevitable but all of the brake lines are beyond repair according to my mechanic - he will not repair them only replace them. My bigger issue is the fact that since 1967 all cars & light trucks use a dual master cylinder enabling the vehicle to stop incase of brake failier. My GMC and apparently others have the same issue - that even when a line blows the trucks will not stop! the dual master does not do what it is designed to do! this coupled with the fact that I also have been plagued with abs low speed problems since 60k I really feel that gm engineers and bean counters need to agree on safety. Considering that brake lines of thirty years ago are better than late model products would it really be that much for the feds to require stainless steel brake lines? my 2002 sierra looks good but the underside (chassis, suspension parts and brake lines) are not good. This truck is not a good investment and it is definately full of safety issues. If I was in traffic I am sure that I would not been able to stop without an accident. We as consumers do not need third brake lights and useless abs brakes. We need brakes that work when pressure is applied to the pedal!.

I was coming upon a red light behind other traffic. I stepped down on the brakes to stop, and the peddle felt spongy. I tried pumping them, then nothing. I avoided hitting the truck in front of me by swerving across into the other lane and pulling into a parking lot, were I was able to bring the vehicle to a stop. The brake warning light never came on, and I don't understand while it was a total brake failure, I thought that's why there is a dual reservoir, and there was still plenty of fluid in both. Upon inspection, I saw the brake lines were all severely corroded, and the one going to the rear brakes was split. I know I live in michigan, and the truck is rusty(thanks again gm) but I have cars over 40 years old with original lines on them with absolutely no corrosion on them. This is a substandard part, that needs to be recalled before more people are injured or killed.

On my way to the store I noticed reduced brake pedal and increased stopping distance. No warning lights were on at this time. On my way home the brake warning light came on and I had even less pedal and needed extreme stopping distance. I went directly to the repair station and the mechanic found heavily rusted lines especially in the areas of the abs module. One of the lines was rusted thru and leaking in the area of the abs module causing the malfunction. I already have had the brake lines to the front calipers replaced in July of 2012 due to extreme rust. I am having all the brake lines replaced with stainless steel at the time of this posting. This vehicle gets very light duty personnel use and shows no signs of rust in the body.

I had a complete brake line failure going up toward intersection yellow light tried to stop almost caused crash, no warning the brake light signal went on after it happened. Pulled off into shopping center using emergency brake. Towed to mechanic where I found out the line broke in front of the abs system and all the other lines are just as rusted out and will break if not replaced.

While traveling at about 40 mph on flat paved road the brake warning light came on. When I tested the brake, the pedal went to the floor. The warning light went off then flashed back on. On the second or third pump the warning light did the same thing. At that time I had regained a very soft and little brake. Upon inspecting the brake system it was found that the brake line aft of the left front wheel, behind the inter-fender cover where it passes over the frame member had failed due to serious rusting and had burst.

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving 40 mph, the brake warning light illuminated when he applied pressure to the brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor and did not idle the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle with rusted brake lines. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current and failure mileages were 63,000. Kmj.

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated the brake light illuminated constantly, the vehicle lost brake fluid prematurely, and a brake line ruptured while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure in the brake lines, and calipers due to corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer replaced the brake lines, and calipers. The failure mileage was 102,000 and the current mileage was 109,963.

On my 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab 2wd the abs and brake lights go on and off. I had my local gm dealer address this on several occasions they have come to the conclusion that the abs brake module is bad. I asked if there were any recalls on this they said their is a bulletin out that the grounds could be bad so I had them do this fix it did not correct the problem also their was a recall to fix the speed sensors in the wheels which they fixed also did not fix the problem. I decided to google this type of problem to see if other people had this same issue I have found hundred of thousands of people with exact same issue or were it has even gotten worse and the lights stay on all the time. It seems to affect gm vehicles made from 1999 to 2007 cars and trucks but mostly trucks. To me this is a big safety issue most people do not know that when both of those lights are on they have no abs. I was lucky to have a good service manager who explained this to me and how often this problem occurs. Thank you.

The parking brake light turns on randomly, when just starting the vehicle, when just sitting in the parkinglot before moving, while driving, but mainly while slowing down. . . . While using the brakes. I have taken it to the dealership 4 or 5 times now, and they cant reproduce the problem in their shop, so they dont know how to fix it. It is getting worse now. Flashing and dinging when slowing down on the highway, or when going down hill. I am worried that it may trigger something, like the brakes. The dealership has worked with me, still "trying" to fix even after my warantee has expired. I also have the dash crack issue too . And is very concerning being on the rim of the air bag . This needs to be looked into and not wait til something bad happens. Be proactive, not reactive.

While driving home from work, I tried to stop at a stop light. Pushed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. Got it stopped by using the parking brake. Service brake light on. After parking the truck, noticed liquid on driveway. Traced the liquid back to a rusted brake line.

Brake line corroded, causing loss of brake fluid, and subsequent brake warning light. Driver rear brake line corroded with leak in 90 degree bend. 2nd brake line later failed catastrophically, causing all loss of brake control and requiring replacement of all brake lines on vehicle.
