After having all sorts of warnings over time like "service esc," "service parking brake," and more, I now see "brake system failure: 62 mph top speed" flash across my dash. I am reading and hearing that this is a very dangerous problem. New truck. Brand new. Had it less than a year. Brake message always on start up.

Backing out of my driveway in reverse applied the brakes and brake went all the way to the floor and did not stop the vehicle like it should. This vehicle had a recall already on it for the vacuum pump failing causing a loss of braking power. I got the recall remedied ( supposedly by increasing the vacuum pressure but now 6 to 7 months later this is a huge issue it is extremely dangerous driving in low speeds down residential areas with kids playing etc and your brakes fail you this ultimately can cause very serious injury if not death. And to know they put a recall out that supposedly fixes the issue and it dosent fix anything makes it worse because your cheap and dont want to replace a vacuum pump is utterly disturbing and disgusting.
Low speed brake failure. Creeping up to a stop sign and and not being able to stop due to brakes being hard to push. There was a recall for this exact problem but when the dealer typed in my VIN # the decal wasn't listed.
The brakes failed as my son approached an intersection. Subsequently, he struck another vehicle broadside. Extensive damage was sustained to both vehicles. The driver reported that he pressed the brake pedal, but the truck would not stop. After I investigated further for an explanantion,I discovered that there was a recall on his brake system that might explain brake failure. The crash occurred on a city street.
Brakes fail. Will not allow vehicle to come to a complete stop when going forward or in reverse. When accelerating vehicle violently shakes. This happens at any speed above 20mph.

My 2020 GMC sierras brakes failed on may 22nd and ecm and now the engine and transmission are experiencing issues based on the onstar report.
The contact owns a 2020 GMC sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the system brake failure warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. Once the warning light illuminated, the contact experienced complete brake and steering failure. The contact was able to steer the vehicle into a curb to slow down the vehicle and avoid a possible collision with another vehicle. The contact stated that he had suffered pain to his left shoulder blade and left knee; however, he did not seek medical attention due to covid-19. After experiencing the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to desert sun motors, inc. (2600 n white sands blvd, alamogordo, nm 88310) where they cleared the system's computer and informed the contact that they found no defects with the vehicle. Upon return of the vehicle, he experienced another brake failure as the check engine light illuminated while driving at 55 mph. Due to the failure, the contact was forced to run a red light and drive up an incline in order to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was then towed shamaley Buick GMC (955 crockett st, el paso, TX 79922) where it remained in their possession. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a field inspector was sent to inspect the vehicle. The contact stated that know brake failure codes were detected. The contact stated after the third failure the vehicle was towed to shamaley GMC where it was awaiting diagnosis. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 45-65 mph, the brake pedal was hard to depress. The steering wheel was difficult to turn. Service esc warning on dash service trailer brake on dash brake system failure - 62 mph top speed warning on dash steering assist reduced drive with care on dash restarted truck and check engine light came on.
Virtually unable to depress brake pedal at lower speeds - total brake failure. "no recalls available" according to the dealer database, but this is absolutely the same brake recall issue they refused to address for a few years until 2 people died.
I was going about 15 miles per hour when suddenly all these error codes started popping up, first "esc malfunction" then trailer brake malfunction, stabilitrak, steering assist reduced, brake system fail, lighs just pop up I do feel like the truck looses some power feels more sluggish, I took it to dealership, they recalibrated the break system and stuff, it fixed the issue temporarily, but the lights keep coming back, sometimes I turn the truck on in the morning and lights are gone, then later on I get all the error codes again while driving it. It started 4 days after I purchased the truck and happens daily since.
2020 GMC 6. 2 l v8 1500 4w sierra denali. Bought yesterday new from dealership. Today, not even 120 miles and brakes malfunctioned. I started truck with GMC app. Got in car with my family and as I pulled out of parking stall pushing on brakes met extreme resistance and sluggishly came to a stop. I put truck in park. Shut off and turned back on. Brakes still not functioning. brakes abs and icons for traction control and check engine lights were on. Again attempted to drive. Driving 20 mph would take greater than 50 yards to stop, with me, 220# athletic male applying full force. Warning message also appeared brake system failure max speed 62 mph. No idea where 62 was formulated. Also some message about trailer brakes came on too. No trailer was attached. I shut truck off. 30 minutes later started, check engine light was only light on. Brakes worked normal. Was able to cautiously get 3 miles home. This is a potentially fatal flaw. Again this truck is straight off the dealers lot. Onstar sent email stating issue with antilock braking system, take to dealership within 7 days . So brake failure is a major issue. But also a known brake issue and the computers say stay below 62 mph and get serviced within 7 days are just as worrisome. A braking issue should instruct don't drive and have towed thanks.
Multiple warnings popped up on the screen telling me "brake system failure" "ecu failure" "trailer brake failure" and "max speed 62 mph. " after that the brakes become almost non-functional. I had to stand on the pedal with both feet and was unable to slow down enough (45 mph traffic) to had to go into the e-lane to avoid an accident. Truck also gave dtc p25a2. I can't stress enough that it wasn't just degraded braking, it was almost nothing at all. It took nearly 1/8th of a mile to get it stopped on a mild downhill grade.
Vehicle was parked. Entered vehicle and turned on vehicle using interior start button. Vehicle was put in reverse and was baking when all break pressure disappeared and vehicle was rolling backward and came to a stop before striking another vehicle and child. Vehicle was placed in park and esc failure, trailer brake failure, traction control failure, power steering failure and do not drive above 62 mhp alarmed on the dash. Vehicle was shut off and on 3 times and reset finally regained some break pressure but check engine light came n. Vehicle was towed to trent GMC, new bern nc for service. Service told us it had a recall. I was unable to locate a recall for this issue. This could have ended very bad. I am not assured that the problem is fixed.
My pickup started, I pulled out on road and sped up to 35 mph, when I stepped on brakes to slow down they were unresponsive, so I began pumping. They felt very hard to pump and were not slowing the truck down. Lights came on saying service brakes etc. As I coasted to try to slow down off side of road. I had to keep pumping the brakes down to floorboard and I?m not sure they were even working. I lost power steering and was almost involved in a serious rear-end collision. 4 messages appeared on digital dash while driving. Service esc, brake system failure 62 mph top speed, service trailer brake system, steering assist reduced. I had to press brake pedal to the floor with extremely excessive force to get truck to stop. This failure could have easily resulted in vehicle accident, or even a fatality accident. I doubt I will ever carry my family in the truck again due to this and I certainly will not allow my children to drive the truck. This is the 5th time this has happened to my truck.
4 messages appeared on digital dash while driving. Service esc, brake system failure 62 mph top speed, service trailer brake system, steering assist reduced. I had to press brake pedal to the floor with extremely excessive force to get truck to stop. Note that none of the 4 messages state the vehicle will be extremely difficult to stop or shouldn't be driven, but rather the vehicle wouldn't exceed 62 mph. It should have reduced the speed to much less, maybe 10 to 15 mph. This failure could have easily resulted in vehicle accident, or even a fatality accident. I doubt I will ever carry my family in the truck again due to this and I certainly will not allow my children to drive the truck.
Upon starting the vehicle and taking off after remotely starting it, multiple warnings popped up on the trucks dic. They were, system brake failure, trailer brake failure, esc failure, do not exceed 65mph warning. After seeing those I applied the brake to stop and the brake pedal went to floor leaving the truck without any type of braking power what so ever. After coasting to a stop I shut the truck off restarted it and the check engine icon was on. The brakes did work after the truck was shut off and restarted.
Truck parked in morning, turned it on and multiple warnings came on, service trailer brake system, service esc, brake system failure at 62mph,got warning from onstar that there is an issue with my antilock braking system, I took pictures of error but only could upload one.
After starting my 2019 GMC sierra, I received a number of warnings including: 1. Service trailer brake system 2. Steering assist is reduced drive with care 3. Service esc 4. Brake system failure 62 mph top speed 5. Check engine light as I started to drive, I realized I had a very difficult time stopping as I had to press the brake very hard. I was in a parking lot and only going 5 - 10 mph, but still had difficulty stopping. I took the vehicle to the dealership. They investigated the issue and made a software update working directly with gm, which is now a current recall. The truck has done it again as of today so the sw fix is obviously not correct.
Purchased new, Dec 24, 2019. Current odometer 645miles. The vehicle was parked for about 15 minutes, when I returned to my truck and turned it on, multiple warning tones began to sound and the dashboard was illuminated with multiple warning lights (abs, traction control, check engine, parking brake) and messages reading: "brake system failure 62mph top speed," service trailer brake system, steering assist is reduced drive with care, service esc. I turned the vehicle off and on multiple times over the course of 20 minutes, exiting the vehicle, locking the doors, unlocking the doors, and starting the process from the beginning. I decided I wouldn't be driving over 62mph as I was only 2 miles from my home, so I decided to back out and drive home with full intentions of calling the dealership in the morning. When I tried to back out I realized that I had almost zero braking power, having to almost stand up on the brake pedal to stop the vehicle without giving it any gas, and turning was difficult (similar to manual steering in a vintage vehicle). I knew driving home would not be safe. I turns the vehicle off and on once more and all the warning messages and lights were no longer there. The check engine light remained on and is still on. I was able to drive home as though nothing happened, but am fearful this will happen while driving down the road, especially while my children are in the car. I have read multiple forums, this is not an isolated incident, with many others experiencing the same exact issue, sometimes while actually driving, in 2019 GMC sierras and chevy silverados. This is absolutely unacceptable and will result in injuries and deaths if gm does not resolve the issue.
They investigated the issue and made a software update working directly with gm. Five days after picking my vehicle up, I received a call from the dealership saying that gm does not have a permanent fix for the issue and that I may experience brake failure again. My vehicle is back at the dealer without a solution or timeframe for repair.
Tl- the contact owns a 2019 GMC sierra. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced unintended acceleration and would surge forward. The vehicle also experienced a brake failure causing the vehicle to erroneously drive into the street. During the failure the messages "trailer brake failure" and "do not driver past 60 mph" had massage had displayed. The local dealer bob robinson Chevrolet(155 robinson dr. Triadelphia wv) was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 3100. Jft.
I have a 2019 GMC sierra I took it in for recall services and took a road trip to texas once I reached tax that evening I had a brake system failure going down the highway took it into the shop and had everything looked at and check they said truck was fine and the next morning on the trip back brak system failed again and both time check engine light was on for electric problem as well. Go the truck to the dealer again where it is currently at now. They will do the same thing and tell me the truck is fine or replace parts that was not the issue. I refuse to place my family life in danger by continuing to drive this truck it is a major safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. While driving approximately 25 mph and attempting to brake, the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floorboard. Also, the abs, check engine, brake, and differential warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the service trailer brake system, service esc, steering assist reduced, drive with care and brake system failure system top speed 62 mph messages appeared on the message board. The vehicle was towed to ingersoll auto of danbury (84 federal rd, danbury, CT 06810). The same dealer repaired the vehicle on December 28, 2019 per NHTSA campaign numbers: 19v814000 (seat belts) and 19v889000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control, service brakes). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 2,606.
New truck, GMC 1500 denali, 1100 miles, started vehicle with multiple warning sounds & warning lights, dash says "brake system failure 62mph top speed", service trailer brake system", steering assist is reduced drive with care" service esc", braking was completely reduced & needed hard press on brake to try and get vehicle to stop. Very diminished braking. Vehicle was stationary in a parking lot when this happened on restart.
On two occasions the vehicle lost the power brakes function. Numerous dash alerts stating including "service esc" "brake system failure 62mph top speed" "service trailer brake system" "steering assist is reduced drive with care" along with a check engine light. The brakes pedal had to be pushed to the floor to slowly come to a stop. Both times were in a parking lot. One of which times I was moving. Dec 26th and again on Jan 16th 2019. The vehicle was towed to the dealership on both incidents.
When I tried to drive my truck I received the below error messages and lights on my dash board: steering assist reduced drive with care service trailer brake service esc brake system failure - 62 mph top speed abs check engine brake traction control I dropped the truck off at the GMC dealer for two days, I picked it up and it was fine. I was told it was a software update. Then 7 days later I had the same errors messages and lights on my dash board. And this time it was extremely hard to stop the truck. I needed to press down all the way to stop the truck.
I own a 2019 GMC sierra denali 1500 crew cab. After starting my vehicle and beginning my journey home. Sever warning indications of problems came on my dashboard system. While driving, the brake failure indicator illuminated and the vehicle would not immediately stop when depressing the brake pedal. Also, several warning indicators illuminated, including the power steering, service esc, brake system failure 62 mph top speed, steering assist is reduced drive with care, service trailer brake system, abs, and trailer towing warning message indicating that the vehicle would not accelerate above 62 mph. In addition, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn in either direction.
After starting my truck I got the following messages service esc service trailer brake brake system failure - 62 mph top speed steering assist reduced drive with care thought I would just limp it home although after leaving my parking spot I realized that I had almost no brakes at a all. I re parked the truck and had it towed to the dealership which is telling me that they reset the codes but that there is a possibility of it happening again. No brakes at highway speeds would be disastrous!.
At around 1500 miles my truck had a rotational noise which led into clicking the grinding and squealing, they changed out the front axle and all new brakes and rotors along with a braking software update. They assured me I should not have any more issues. Now at 4,300 miles I'm starting to have rotational noise again after driving about 1 hour, of course they cant duplicate noise. The truck has had 5 recalls and also a 4wd pump defective all with 4,300 miles. I am fearful that the brakes will fail.
Brand new truck, at4, 15k miles, 5 months old. Was very cold today outside, was in a store and started vehicle remotely. Came outside to a running vehicle, sat in drivers seat and pressed start button. Noticed multiple warning sounds/lights, dash read "brake system failure 62mph top speed", service trailer brake system", steering assist is reduced drive with care" service esc". The abs, check engine, brake and traction control lights were also illuminated. I immediately called my local GMC dealer (who is 5 miles away) and read them all the messages and asked if the vehicle was safe to drive to their location. After a brief hold, the service tech stated the vehicle was safe to drive over. I attempted to drive the vehicle out onto rt6. While still in the parking lot, traveling approx 10-15mph I was barely able to stop the vehicle. It took my full power on the peddle to stop, and approximate 20-30 feet of distance before it stopped fully. I immediately called the service tech back and informed her that the vehicle was not safe to drive with 5% or so break capacity. She provided the gm number for roadside assistance. The truck was towed to their shop a short time ago and I am awaiting their feedback. On a side note, I waited in the truck as I did not want to shut it down, I wanted the service tech to see exactly what was on the screen. After about 30 mins, with me in the drivers seat with the keys, the truck shut itself off. When it restarted the messages were gone, but the check engine light remained. Luckily I took photos and video recorded this issue prior to. The loss of brakes for any issue should be treated with the uttermost care for safety of the general public. This seemly known issue will (if not already) result in injury or death if not corrected quickly.
Took my truck for a recall at the GMC dealer yesterday for both seatbelt tensioner and to update the brake system. After that earlier today after a red light I got a bunch of warning lights. The warning lights for brake system failure, service esc, traction control off, and service trailer brake system came on. Brakes all of a sudden got really weak almost crashed had to brake way earlier than I need to and drive slow. Truck was running great until I got the recall done.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). The contact took the vehicle to finnegan Chevrolet Buick GMC (26529 southwest fwy, rosenberg, TX 77471, (281) 342-4200) to be serviced for the software update. After the contact had the vehicle repaired per the recall, while driving at a low rate of speed, the brakes failed to operate without warning. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a faulty brake vacuum pump. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist because the vehicle was previously repaired per the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.
Brand new 2019 GMC sierra at4, just under 14k miles. Upon starting the truck, the following warnings came on. "brake system failure 62mph top speed", service trailer brake system", steering assist is reduced drive with care" service esc" check engine" I turned the trick off, opened and closed my door, then restarted. Upon restart, everything was gone, no warnings. Approximately 1. 5 miles later I was at highway speeds (70mph) when all the messages returned. I attempted to brake but there was no response, pedal went nearly to the floor. I only survived the incident by shifting into manual, downshifting to engine brake, and standing on the what I'm guessing was 5 or 10 percent brake pedal. Luckily there was an empty lane for me to do this in.
