1 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/16/2020

I was driving about 45 miles an hour coming down an overpass. The brake pedal went completely to the floor and I narrowly avoided a crash. I took to my mechanic. They said that the brake lines were completely rusted out. I am not getting this fixed as it is an older truck but I do think that someone could die from this defect.

I had part of the line fixed with copper tubing. I am have since had 2 more lines burst. As well as a fuel line leak. This has become frustrating.

Tl the contact owns a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500. While reversing the vehicle, the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact was able to engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that all the brake lines were corroded, which caused the brake fluid to leak. The vehicle was towed to bowser automotive (132-168 north lewis run road, west mifflin, PA 15236, (412) 469-2100) where it was diagnosed that all the brake lines were severely corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 75,000.

6 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/07/2018

While driving approximately 35 mph in town, the vehicle in front of me signaled to make a left hand turn. I began to slow down the vehicle and then I lost all brake pressure. I was unable to stop the truck to avoid an accident due to complete brake failure! there were no previous lights or warning signals notifying of a brake problem prior to this. The warning light came on after the accident. The brake fluid reservoir was full. After further investigation, it appears that the brake lines were corroded causing the brake failure.

7 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

I took our truck in for servicing at the o'neill GMC dealership in warminster, PA and was told that all of our brake lines needed to be replaced due to rusting. We purchased our vehicle new from o'neill and have continued to have it serviced there. The truck is treated with great respect and only has 40,000 miles on it. I contacted GMC due to the defective materials of the vehicle they sold us and they claim that this is normal. I now am strapped with a bill for $2700. 00 to replace all four defective, rusting brake lines their website says customer satisfaction guaranteed. I believe GMC should contribute $1700 towards the bill. I note that there are over ten pages of complaints on the internet regarding corrosion problems. Please hold GMC accountable. This vehicle was purchased in good faith and they should admit responsibility for their inferior brake line materials. I am disappointed with GMC's excuses and nonsense. I told them they should pay $1700 out of the money they banked from the expired, extended warranty we purchased. This is a GMC issue; not a jane kearns issue. Again, please hold them responsible for selling a defective truck. Thank you, jane kearns 215-834-7181.

14 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/21/2017

Left rear brake line appears to be installed in harms way. That is, an object on the road could be struck which could tear away the brake line resulting in loss of braking power. Other vehicles of the same type on the dealer's lot were observed to be of the same design. If this brake line is lost due to road hazard, will braking power be lost? please advise. Thanks.

The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer (betten baker GMC located at 749 w main st, lowell, mi, 49331) where it was diagnosed that the rear brakes had failed. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact observed that the paint on the frame was failing and was wet due to the excessive leakage of the brake fluid. Failure Date: 01/24/2017

On January 24, 2017 traveling on PA turnpike at posted speed limit of 70mph, when I applied brakes to slow when approaching slower vehicles. Brake pedal went to the floor and vehicle almost ran into the rear of slower vehicles. Metal brake line ruptured above left front wheel. When inspected, all brake lines exhibited extreme rust/corrosion to the point of flaking and thinning. This is an extreme safety issue which could have resulted in a major collision and would have injured or killed occupants. This problem is a major known safety defect and needs to be remedied by gm.

26 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/23/2017

I own a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 pick-up with less than 75,000 miles on January 23, 2017 I lost my braking capability due to the brake lines being completely corroded/rusted through causing the lost of brake fluid. Luckily I lost my brakes in a parking lot and not on a busy main street or highway with the possibility of having an accident and seriously hurting myself or someone else. From what I have read gm has known about this problem for sometime and says it is not a safety concern. From first hand experience I believe this is a major safety concern.

27 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/19/2017

Lost all brakes on my 01' GMC Sierra 1500 sle 4x4 while braking on an off ramp, pedal went all the way to the floor. Brake lines appear to be completely rusted out, which doesn't make sense when I have a 5 year older Honda civic, with 110k more miles on it, and the brake likes do not look near as bad. Both spent their lives in minnesota / wisconsin. After doing some googling, it appears this is extremely common with 2000-2003 gm trucks. If this wasn't a manufacturing defect, wouldn't all uncoated brake lines rust out at similar rates, in the same conditions? mind boggling that gm is able to get away with not having to spend the cash to correct this problem. As if that money is worth more then the persons life.

30 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 09/07/2016

Was on my way home, when I went to turn left onto my road. My brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I had to accelerate across a main road because a vehicle came up over the hill at me and I could not stop the truck. I coasted down a hill until the truck stopped rolling. When it was towed to a service station the mechanic noted a rusted out hole in my brake line. This is the 2nd time this has happened. The last time was in 2013. Yet the manufacturer does nothing to address this!!!!!!!.

34 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 1999 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

I am the original owner of a 1999 GMC sierra that just had brake line failure on 7/14/16 on the interstate that caused an acccident. I had complete loss of brakes, pedal to the floor. I used low gear and park brake to minimize damage but still made contact. It is currently at patriot Buick GMC in williamsburg va for repair where I bought it new. I feel me having to pay $1000+ for the brake line repair and now a court date and insurance issues that are not my fault. We need to discuss GMC making some restitution as there is no rust anywhere else and this truck has only been in va. I have other gm cars from the 60's, 70s and 2000s that have no rust issue. Fuel line was leaking as well and some needed replacment. Gm service request 8-2250924255 I also had the ps rear brake rotor shield come off and scrape moving parts last year. Turned itnto dealership as a problem. This truck was TSB'd years ago for line inspection.

35 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 05/28/2016

Brakes failed while on boat ramp causing boat to knock me down under trailer as I was pulling drain plug . Driver was able to apply parking brake and putting truck in drive . Brake lines failed brake petal when to floor rusted lines . Then found out that is very common with gm trucks in this year . Result I am pissed , a notice from gm would have been nice . What would happen if I had to stop at a intersection or on the interstate.
