39 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Brakes had already been repaired by dealer under recall prior to this incident. For several weeks I noticed problems. The hill assist would not hold even when braking the truck rolled back on hills. The petal would feel hard like something was keeping it from depressing. Finally, the brakes failed again while I was in line at a fast food restaurant. One second they worked, the next they did not! I was moving slowly and able to put it in park. Got out and asked for help moving it out of line and into a parking spot. I put it back in gear once people had stopped cross traffic and rolled slowly into a parking spot. Approaching the light pole, I depressed the brake again and it would not depress. There was a scraping sound and I pumped them several times, but it didn't feel like there was any give at all. I rolled to curb and put into park. I had the truck towed to dealer, traded it for another car and never drive again. Date was November 15, 2019. 8:30 am. The truck had approximately 50,750 miles on it. Very scary and dangerous as there were many pedestrians including children in parking lot and using crosswalk which transects drive lane. This problem was supposed to have been fixed at dealer just a few weeks before, so fix obviously did not work!!.

43 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

Random intermittent vehicle brake failure. I have experienced random brake failure for 45 minutes at a time on my sierra. No codes or warnings are shown when it happens. Occurs while driving, and random. Condition creates an extremely hard peddle with extremely reduced braking power. Safe stopping distance is increased at least 3 fold. Vehicle brakes will start working again if truck is left parked and ignition off after 30 minutes. I brought the truck into the servicing dealer, they drove it 30 miles and a week later, gm instructed me to pick my truck back up after no repairs do to they could not duplicate. I expressed extreme concern about safety, and gm stance is, "no codes no problem". I was instructed by gm to simply bring it back in when my brakes fail again. 2 weeks later, my brakes failed again, creating a dangerous situation. Once again, the truck corrected itself after sitting with the ignition off for 30 minutes. I brought it back to the dealer, and they drove it and "could not duplicate customer concern" once again. Once again I was instructed to bring the truck back in when the brakes fail during their open business hours so that they can see it for themselves. This is an extremely dangerous condition, and this truck should be off the road and concerning to gm, but it is not. Through research, I have found many other people with the same truck year and model with the same problems, and gm is negligent towards our safety and the innocent people on the road. This new "e-boost" braking system needs to be investigated before my family or others are killed or injured by this defective system. Brake failure occurred both times when attempting slowing down for curves and stopped traffic at highway speeds and persisted at all conditions until it reset itself after sitting off for 30 minutes.

44 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

I started my car and I had 4 messages appear on the dash stating(service esc, service trailer brake, brake system failure-62 mph top speed and steering assist reduced drive with care). I attempted to drive the vehicle in my neighborhood and noticed that I had lost power steering and when I went to brake there was a delayed response. It took the vehicle approximately 4 to 5 feet to come to a stop after braking. Also the abs, check engine, brake and traction control lights were illuminated. I immediately tried to drive back home and when I drove in to my driveway, I smashed on the brakes and I almost drove through my garage because the vehicle would not stop immediately. I tried to press my onstar button for road assistance and lost all electrical power. I contacted onstar with my phone and had the vehicle towed to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle. Currently the vehicle is there being diagnosed for the problem.

49 Brakes Failed problem of the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 07/13/2019

Total brake failure. The pedal became hard as a rock with no advance warning. I received a notice (n182202780) from gm stating that I might experience increased brake pedal effort. It went on to say how this notice "is not a reacall" and that brakes still meets "all federal motor vehicle safety standards for brake performance" I'm writing to bring attention to the fact that my truck experienced no symptoms of a problem until the pedal had maybe 10% assist. No check engine light or notice from the drivers info center. I applied the brake, shifted into drive, accelerated then applied the brake to stop and maybe had 10% braking ability. The notice also went on to say that "failure to follow recommended oil change intervals could contribute to this condition". The truck has 32000 miles on it, I've owned it since new, I have always changes oil with 20% life left in it. This is about 2000 mile sooner than the manufacturer recommends. This is a very serious condition that gm has recognized in there letter, but in my opinion, are not taking it serious enough. Unless I'm a "one off" case, this will very likely get people hurt and property damage if not addressed very soon. Please look into this, thank you.

57 Brakes Failed problem of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

On April 2, 2019 I parked brefily for about 30 minutes. Upon re-entering my 2019 GMC sierra truck with approximately 4500 miles and starting the engine I immediately received multiple warning messages on my dash panel. They were "service esc" "service trailer brake", "brake system failure" "steering assist reduced" and to drive no faster than 62 mph. Previously prior to parking I had never had any problems whatsoever. I was in a location where I needed to go so I attempted to drive but found quickly that the brake pedel went all the way to the floor with very limited or basically no braking. The steering became very difficult with no apparent power assist. I drove it approximately two miles and got to a location where I could park. I turned the engine off and back on and the problem did not go away. I turned it off again and waited a couple of minutes and then heard an automated couple of clunk sounds from the front. . I started it up and everything was okay except the check engine light was on and stayed on the rest of evening. The next morning the check engine light was still on however about twenty minutes later I noticed it was off and everything has been fine since. I had planned to take it to the GMC dealer however with no problem showing now and from past experience with the dealerships I decided there was no need to schedule an appointment until the symptoms come back. I found on the internet later that there are numerous instances where this has happened to many other 2019 GMC sierra owners. I feel that this is a extremely serious problem that needs immediate attention especially with the near total braking system failure!.

59 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 03/27/2019

Brake assist failed with out warning, brake pedal gets hard, did first time at slow speed in reverse, extreme difficulty in stopping. Luckily was nothing behind me in parking lot. Found out common problem with vacuum pump failure in this year with average mileage around 80,000, I have 86,900 miles. Problem got continued after leaving parking lot when doing 30 mph tried to stop for traffic light, had to push pedal with extreme force to try and stop truck, again fortunately nothing in front of me, so there was no accident.

61 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

While transiting on a major highway in north florida the traffic came to a sudden stop and unfortunately when I pressed the brake pedal nothing happened, I had to push the peddle with extreme power and it still was not enough. To avoid the slower vehicles I had to pull the truck onto the grassy median to avoid a possible deadly collision. I was able to recover control of the truck thankfully. Mysteriously the brakes worked again when I came back onto the highway. I took the truck to a nearby GMC service dealer and after the truck was tested they informed me that they found a faulty brake vacuum pump. In discussion with the dealer they also informed me that this is becoming a "somewhat common" issue. Without warning or any indicator the brake system failed, this is completely unacceptable. Lives could have easily been lost due to a malfunction part. Vehicle only had 27k miles on it.

62 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 01/06/2019

Driving at low speed in traffic on a highway, brakes failed then locked-up causing truck to skid and hit the car in front.

They stated that the vehicle may be serviced for TSB pit-5361b (additional brake pedal effort) but had not yet specified the manufacturers guidelines to determine a remedy and replacement part. The vehicle was not repaired yet. 29 TSB had been issued for the brake system however no brake system recall so the contact was uncertain of the vehicle may be repaired by the dealership. The approximate failure mielage was 71,000. Dyd.

65 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 12/22/2018

2016 GMC sierra- bought used hard shifting noted immediately and shuttering on inclines, took to dealership had part replaced- fixed shuttering but not hard shifts- now it not only shifts hard but while I was trying to stop at a drive through the brakes failed- lunges forward almost hitting the car in front of us- next day I pulled into a parking spot same thing happened- brakes would not compress- stood on the brake before it finally stopped- backed up a bit to straighten up and the damn thing did it again in reverse. I'm traveling back home to arkansas from florida in a few days with my children and I'm scared to death to drive this thing. I can't get it looked at before we leave because of the weekend/ christmas break. Seriously unsafe vehicle! there should be recalls on these vehicles! I've read so many similar stories, why has this not been addressed yet? GMC should be ashamed.

66 Brakes Failed problem of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

The problem has occurred twice in the last week. Both times in normal driving conditions and good weather conditions. While pulling in my driveway at low speed when I pushed on the brake pedal it was hard and would barely depress. There was no power assisted braking and it took me pressing as hard as possible with both feet to get my truck stopped before I hit my garage. This happened again when I was trailering my 1500 lb fishing boat. I was backing it down the ramp and brakes failed again. I had to again press brake pedal as hard as possible and use emergency brakes to stop. There was a noticeable grinding sound in the brakes while trying to stop. Again as if there were no power brakes. Both instances occurred while going 2 to 3 mph but if it happened in an area with pedestrians or at higher speeds it could result in serious property damage and injuries. Please look into this and force gm to take corrective action ASAP.

67 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Complete brake failure with no warnings. Dealer diagnostic reports frozen vacuum pump. The condition was encountered in motion on a county rd.

68 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 11/15/2018

Brake system failure. Brake pedal would depress to the floor and stop working as the truck was slowing down. This would happen in all braking situations. I took the truck to the dealership and they stated the vacuum pump failed. $1142. 67 for repair! Nov 15/ 2018.

69 Brakes Failed problem of the 2015 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/28/2018

The vacuum pump controlling the brakes has failed. When the brake is pressed in stop/go traffic, it will first stop the vehicle, but if the brake is released then pressed again, the brakes will not work and the vehicle continues to roll forward. A mechanical/electrical noise can be heard before this occurs. This is more noticeable on wet roads or roads with a steep decline.

70 Brakes Failed problem of the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500

Failure Date: 10/14/2018

On multiple occasions, the brakes appeared to loose all brake booster function, causing incredibly weak braking at low speeds. Twice it failed in a parking lot situation, where the effect was minimal (just required pushing the pedal with maximum force I could generate) the most recent was a parallel parking situation where the brake failure almost cased a low speed collision. I missed the car behind me by mere inches!! I address this with the gm dealer twice and both times I received "could not duplicate" it will be noted again. This needs to be addressed via a recall as it is a major safety issue, and is not specific to my truck (this has been documented on the internet, and there is a TSB for it which mine supposedly was not part of) the problem is low speed, at idle manuvers where the brakes are replied repeatedly (like parking). I never noticed a problem at any speed above crawl.
