GMC Sierra 1500 owners have reported 72 problems related to dashboard crack (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Sierra 1500 based on all problems reported for the Sierra 1500.
There is a 4" stress crack in the dashboard just head of the gauge cluster which developed a week ago. My concern is two fold 1) the crack will increase in size reducing the value of the vehicle, 2) in a impact situation, the structural integrity of the dash may be compromised allowing pieces of plastic to become projectiles, possibly damaging occupants or deflating the airbags thereby reducing there effectiveness in a crash.

Dash is cracked around passenger air bag.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle's dashboard was cracked in three different areas. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the dashboard was cracked; however, the repair was not completed due to the dealer's refusal to repair the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags); however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer did not consider the recall valid and was trying to get the recall overturned in court. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 93,308. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The vehicle contains takata airbags that an open recall was started 3 years ago for but a decision has never been made. The dash has now cracked near the airbags. If the airbags deploy they could cause shrapnel from the dash to be put into the cabin. There is an open lawsuit in the us and canada with gm in regards to the dash. The vehicle is also displaying intermittent airbag service error messages. Gm will not diagnose the airbag issue for free and want's anywhere from $150-$250 simply to read the code plus whatever the repair would cost. Gm also wants $1500-$2000 to replace the dash. Gm has deemed this vehicle "safe" but will not stand behind that "safe" designation by diagnosing the airbag issue for free. The airbag service light started off very infrequently and has started to become more frequent. I have also been cut by the dash on multiple occasions, which presents a huge safety hazard. Gm corporate will not give any timeline to a resolution and will only pay for repairs once the NHTSA forces them into a recall. A "safe" vehicle does not injury it's users or report errors with its safety systems frequently.

Cracked dash above the instrument panel and by the passenger air bag. Could cause a safety hazard if the airbag was deployed and is not aesthetically pleasing considering the money spent on the vehicle.
The dash board of my vehicle has cracks in it. More and more cracks are beginning to develop over the airbag. I am worried about the airbag deploying with sharp plastic pieces pointing at it. I think this is a hazard to all drivers. Every gm truck/tahoe from 2007-2013 (that I have seen) have these ugly and dangerous cracks in them.
Safety issue with cracks in the dashboard in the upper left portion of the passenger side airbag. If the airbag goes off, either in accident or in error, parts of the dashboard will dislodge and be a danger to the occupants.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard was cracked and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag wiring would need to be rewired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags), but the part to do the repair was unavailable. The manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Dashboard is cracked in multiple places. One crack is along the passenger airbag and the second is along the drivers side in front of the instrument gluster. The first crack appeared as I was leaving my driveway and the other was while driving down the street. I am worried that the airbag crack could cause sharp pieces of the dash to project in the case of a deployment of the airbag.

Dashboard is cracked directly adjacent to the air bag, I am concerned that plastic pieces of dashboard will become dangerous flying objects in the event of an impact that deploys the airbag. I have been talking with gm and the local dealership for months now and they will not accept responsibility. This is a continuing safety issue experienced by GMC sierra owners.
The dash board has a crack by the passenger side airbag and a rack on the driver side. It also seems to be caving in. I am afraid that the airbag will go off at anytime or will not go off at all.
Multiple cracks on dashboard. The first two (2) cracks appeared about 3 years ago (truck only three years old at that time) located on passenger side of dash - above where glove box ends. Just found another crack this past weekend when cleaning dash. (truck is now 6 yrs old - just finished paying it off!!) this one is located on left side of driver side, about half way back. My concern is that the dash is now compromised. In the event the airbags are deployed, my concerns are that the airbags may not come out, come out improperly due to the cracks, or that there may be additional dash parts becoming a projectile that could cause more harm. In reading this site it seems that this is a known problem that should be addressed before it causes a major problem. This truck has been kept in partial shade and has always had a sunscreen in place when not in use.

The contact owns a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard had a crack from the dashboard to the air bags. The dealer and manufacturer stated that the contact was liable for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 138,197.
Cracked dashboard top left corner of passenger airbag .
The contact owns a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard began to crack. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
My truck has developed a crack on the dash, starting at the top left-hand corner of the front passenger airbag. It has cracked entirely through to the dash trim piece roughly 3-4 inches away. Not only is it a tremendous eye-sore, that most of my passengers notice and comment on. . . But has me extremely worried about safety. If this vehicle were to be in a collision and the airbag is deployed, I am sure that fragments of plastic would be propelled through the interior of the vehicle as the airbag fired. I have contacted my local dealership, and they state it is not covered, and have quoted me a repair cost of just over $1,000. This defect in the dash piece seems to be a recurring incident in a lot of 2007-2013 gm trucks. My dash pops and creaks while driving, and I can't afford the insane replacement costs associated with this repair. Gm needs to take a closer look at this situation.
Dash pad cracks in both upper corners around passenger side airbag, truck was parked, noticed cracks in morning.
Cracks appeared on dashboard above instrument panel and passenger airbag. Crack next to airbag appears to be safety hazard as it could puncture the airbag during deployment or the plastic could easily break and be launched as a projectile.
Dash crack. Dash is cracked at airbag. Already been replaced once by dealer and is cracking in same spot. Afraid if air bag deployed it could cause serious harm or even death due to sharp plastic pieces that are broken on dash.
Dashboard cracking above the instrument cluster as well as along the passenger airbag. The cracks grow with every crack in the roadway and are seemingly not able to be patched as they glue they use just wears off from the dealership.
Dash cracked under warranty and was replaced immediately by the dealer (howard bentley in albertville,al). Replacement dash has cracked again. My concern is this is a known issue with certain gm models and in the event of a crash the pieces of compromised dash will become a projectile inside the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact observed a crack in the dashboard near the front passenger side air bag. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 64,500.
Multiple cracks on the dash board. The edges of the plastic are very sharp and could be hazardous in the event of a collision. The first crack appeared on the passenger side on the just above the air bag. It is now cracking on the drivers side. I have had chunks of plastic fall off while driving and the fall through the instrument panel and steering column to the floor.
Dash is cracking at three points. Two are located at the passenger side air bag and the third is at the instrument cluster.
Dash board cracking around passenger airbag, worried that plastic pieces would damage the integrity of the airbag thus injuring passenger and driver.
I was driving down the interstate at 65 mph and heard a pop. I looked over and my dashboard had cracked right next to the airbag. On a non related instance my engine is now making a ticking noise that I will be taking to a dealer to check out.
After having the truck for a year or so I noticed that the dash was starting to crack due to the florida sun beaming down on it. I purchased a sunvisor but still didn't seem to have much effect on the dash and now it has cracked all the way across in three different spots.
Dash crack alongside airpag passenger side.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that the dash board had developed cracks and some of them were located directly over the passenger air bag. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 36,015. Pm.
Dash is cracking in multiple locations. My truck is hardly in the sun and I always use a sun shade in the windshield. There are several cracks around the dash and I am worried this will have an impact on the air bag systems. This is unacceptable from GMC.
Upper dashboard cracked along airbag location on passenger side - top left corner of air bag. Car was parked, crack was just there when I entered the vehicle one morning. . . Not just once but twice. Apparently the dashboard cracks just after the third year and re-occurs with replacement dashboards as well (all dashboards are defective, including the replacements). Note: exact same crack and location as many others reported on facebook group forum page (07-13 gm cracked dash safety hazard for all trucks).
Cracked dash. . . This appears to be a known problem with gm, but no resolution has been provided by the manufacturer as of yet. This issue poses a serious concern that pieces of plastic could become dangerous projectiles in the event of a crash and/or airbag deployment.
Two large cracks on dashboard. One is above instrument cluster hump and it's approximately 5" in length. The other is just above passenger side airbag and that one is approximately 3" in length.
