1 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2012

I have a 2004 GMC Yukon denali and as I see from the many complaints before me my cluster has went out. I have no use of my dashboard at all. No use of gas gauge. No use of speedometer. No use of oil gauge. No use of anything on dash. Why after all the complaints has GMC not done anything. If this causes an accident like what is going on now with ignition switch they will pay so much more with lawsuits. I will be the first in line, can't tell you how many times I have ran off the road for lack of gas.

2 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2010

Speedometer and tachometer went jerky.

3 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon denali xl. While driving at various speeds, the speedometer gave incorrect readings. The contact stated that all the gauges on the instrument panel were no longer functional. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the contact would be responsible for repair costs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 160,000.

4 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon denali. The contact noticed that the instrument panel was reading inaccurately. He stated that while driving the speedometer would fluctuate and he was unable to determine how fast or slow he was traveling. The gasoline gauge functioned intermittently. The contact was concerned that because of the failure; he could potentially be driving on an empty fuel tank which could result in a crash. The dealer stated that they would assume the repair cost if the vehicle had 80,000 miles or less. The manufacturer advised the contact that there were no related recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 93,775 and the failure mileage was unknown.

5 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2010

Normal driving conditions. Malfunctioning/erratic speedometer, resulting in speed 30 mph over actual speed verified via gps navigation. No repairs completed.

6 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2009

While driving on the highway I noticed my speedometer reading erratic speeds (I. E. 110 mph while driving 80 mph) I thought it would go back to 0 mph when I stopped but it didn't. Instead it went passed 120 mph and has been there ever since. This is a big problem because you don't know how fast you are going. After researching online how to fix the problem I noticed hundreds of complaints about the same problem with the same vehicle. I have a gps that tells me how fast I'm going so I can still drive it but something needs to be done before someone gets hurt or freaks out behind the wheel.

7 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

While backing out of the garage, it was observed that I was traveling at a rate of 120mph. I took my 2004 Yukon to the garage only to find out that the instrument panel needs to be replaced (at a cost of $800. 00). The mechanic stated that this is becoming a common occurrence with the 2004 Yukon and that this has not been recalled. My question to GMC is, how many deaths does it take to get a recall? this is a very serious safety concern and should be addressed as so. I bought my truck used, and the warranty is no longer valid. My sister owns a 2005 Yukon that she just purchased (still under warranty) and her instrument panel was just replaced last week.

8 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon. The contact stated he received an informational letter from the manufacturer in regards to the instrument cluster. He had not experienced a failure at the time. Six months later while driving approximately 25 mph the speedometer indicated he was traveling at 120 mph. The dealer advised the dealer had extended the warranty for repairs to vehicle with less than 70,000 accrued miles. The contacts vehicle had 79,000 miles. The repairs would be at the owners expense. The manufacturer was later contacted and advised the warranty was extended past 70,000 to 80,000 miles however, the contact's vehicle had very recently passed 80,000 miles. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

9 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

Instrument cluster.

10 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2009

Speedometer issues, failure, improper readings, dealership won't repair as replacement was only covered if under 70,000 and parts only under 80,000. I have 90,000 on it now. I have owned the vehicle since it was brand new. I received no letters or recalls indicating a need to replace the cluster.

11 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2009

My 2004 GMC Yukon speedometer (manual needle-type) just keeps increasing its speed reading until it "pegs-out" at the 130 mph mark. If you turn off the truck and restart the engine, the speedometer will jump-back about 5 mph. So if one does this 25 times, it will zero itself out. After only short amounts of driving, the speedometer will again start increasing its ready again. It appears to increase the reading as one increases in speed, but doesn't decrease the speed as one decreases their speed. Obviously this can be a safety issue if you do not know your actual speed. Fortunately my gps has speed readouts, but it is delayed by about 5-10 seconds. I only have about 21000 miles on my Yukon, so the speedometer should not have broken or "worn-out" this quickly.

12 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2009

My speedometer failed on my 2004 GMC Yukon denali. There is a recall on the instrument cluster for this for model year 2003-2006, but only up to 80,000. I had 104,000 when the incident happened on my vehicle. It cost me $600 to get this diagnosed and replaced. I consider this a safety issue and it should not have a limit on mileage. Not knowing how fast you are going can cause problems on an interstate highway. By driving to slow, one can cause other drivers to erratically pass and zoom by you or driving to fast can cause other drivers to hurriedly get out of your way and cause accidents. This is more than likely the cause of a speeding ticket I got back in may 2009. It possibly was acting up, but didn't completely fail until July 2009.

13 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that the speedometer displays inaccurate speeds. While idling, the speedometer will read 40 mph or jump from 40 mph to 100 mph. The only new equipment was the rear bumper, which was replaced in 2006. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they stated that the VIN was included in a recall. However, they would not repair the vehicle for free due to the mileage. The tire pressure warning light was the only indicator illuminated on the instrument panel at the time of the failures. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 101,000 and current mileage was 110,000.

14 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2009

I have a 2004 Yukon denali xl, I am having issues with the speedometer being erratic. I will be driving with traffic in a 35 mph zone look at my speedo it says I'm doing 110 mph. I will schedule to have it looked at and then it will work fine for the next 3-6 months then it will screw up again for a couple of days. This is very troublesome as I really never am sure at what speed I am going and my dealer says there is no recall on this item even though I have seen hundreds if not more complaints exactly like mine on the internet so this is not an isolated situation. What can be done?????.

15 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2009

Speedometer failure on 2004 Yukon xl. Works fine until sudden failure. Some sporadic attempts to work after but speedometer can easily be off by 30-40 mph. This is a very common problem with these gm vehicles and is known by gm. Apparently the stepper motors moving the needles are failing. The speedometer is usually first (like mine) followed by the other gauges in the instrument panel as they are all driven by similar stepper motors. A reasonable expectation is to have the speedometer and other gauges last the life of the vehicle. A failure here and there is understandable but when you have failures at this frequency going on it is obvious that it was under designed. Gm offering to stand behind only if it fails under 70k. . . Most fail shortly thereafter.

16 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2009

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon xl. While driving 50 mph, the speedometer froze and displayed 75 mph. The contact was unaware of the correct speed that he was actually driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the speedometer failed. The repair would cost $350, but no repairs have yet been made. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that a class action law suit was filed, which would repair the speedometer up to 70,000 miles or seven years. Because the contact's vehicle was at 100,000 miles, no compensation would be provided. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 101,2000. Updated 3/5/09 updated 03/10/09.

17 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2009

In the instrument cluster on my 2004 GMC Yukon, the speedometer hangs up indicating a higher speed than actually traveling. Initially, the problem occurred at intervals greater than 6 months but seems to be recurring much more frequently - every 2 weeks or so. Upon initial problem being noticed, I found that other model year Yukons had this issue and were repaired, possibly under recall but my model year was excluded.

18 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2008

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the rpms, fuel gauge, speedometer, and oil gauge became inoperable. The dealer stated that the contact would have to pay over $800 to correct the failures. She received a letter that stated there was a defect in the vehicle. Both the dealer and manufacturer stated that they could not provide repairs under the "defect campaign" due to the mileage of her vehicle. Repairs were only being made to vehicles with less than 50,000 miles. The failure mileage was 70,000 and current mileage was less than 110,000. Updated 05/05/09 updated 05/07/09.

19 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2008

2004 GMC Yukon denali: speedometer needle does not work; auto has 61,750 miles. Safety hazard which should be a recall correction by gm.

20 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2008

The speedometer is not functioning correctly, especially in cold weather. The speedo seems to stick and reads incorrectly. It happens daily and has not been fixed.

21 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Instrument cluster giving false readings, speedometer stuck at 10 mph even when traveling anything over ten mph. Gas needle is no longer reading accurately under 1/4 tank , which has caused some embarrassing moments running out of gas when I thought I had fuel. I have a friend who has an avalanche and her instrument panel is doing the same thing, her speedometer and tach are now malfunctioning. Has anyone managed to find out if we can get this replaced via recall?.

22 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2008

I bought a used 2004 GMC Yukon in March of 2008, previously it had been a fleet vehicle. We purchased the vehicle in colorado, and drove it to washington state. Shortly after we arrived, the tachometer stopped working. It gets stuck at ether 25 rpms, or 75 rpms. The speedometer reads accurately, and only recently the fuel gauge has been sticking. I had gotten a notice that these parts had been "recalled" but only for a certain amount of time, for vehicles over 7,000 miles on it. At the time my vehicle only had about 6,500 miles. When I called a GMC office they told me there was nothing they could do.

23 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

We purchased our GMC denali used in July 2007. In June of this year I noticed sometimes that when I would look at the speedometer it would say that I was doing about 40 mph, when I knew that I was not going that speed. I was keeping up with traffic when I first noticed it and the speed limit was 55mph. About a month later I noticed that the speed odometer would say I was not moving at all that my speed was 0, and I would be driving at the time. Then in July of this year we were coming back from a family day trip and we were pulled over for speeding. The officer informed us that we were going about 55 when the speed limit was 40. According to the speed odometer we were going the speed limit. Now when I drive the vehicle I am either go no speed at all or the speed odometer starts going crazy or gets stuck at 40mph. I have not been able to fine any recall on this matter.

24 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 04/11/2008

2004 GMC Yukon xl - speedometer does not work. Will stay on zero on one day, then peg to 140+ on another. I can maintain speed via tach, but my wife is not familiar with this method. Vehicle has 54,000 miles.

25 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

Speedometer has intermitten failure. It registers incorrect speeds (often showing 80 moh when parked) or does not work at all.

26 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2008

For the past 2 weeks my speedometer needle has been getting stuck. Once I hit 60mph, it gets stuck there. When I turn off the car it stays at 60 so it acts as if it's at 0mph. At that point it looks like I'm going 100mph when in reality I'm going 40mph until it gets stuck past 120mph. After a few days it starts slowly dropping. It's amazing that this problem has not been taken care of after many many complaints from owners. I will make sure to give negative reports to anyone looking to buy a gm vehicle as well as to potential used gm owners.

27 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2008

Was driving to work and looked at my speedometer and it was at 120mph. Stopped and turned the truck off and the speedometer stayed at 120mph. Now I have an inoperable speedometer in my truck.

28 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

The speedometer failed on my 2004 Yukon xl. The needle dropped to zero while driving approximately 75 miles per hour.

29 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2008

My 2004 GMC denali has some serious problems with the speedometer and gas gage not showing correct readings. Speedometer shows 50,60,70 when you are only going 30. Sometimes on the highway I am passing everyone and have no clue as to how fast I am going. I can be going pretty fast just setting stopped at a stop light sometimes. And I have no clue as to how much gas I have anymore. They sent out a letter that stated that they would fix this and extended the warranty for 7 years or 70,000 miles whichever comes first. Well my vehicle has 108000 miles on it, because I bought it to travel in and we drive it. They don't consider this a safety issue, so no recall. Since when does driving 90 miles an hour when you think you are going 70 not a safety issue? or perhaps running out of gas in the middle of nowhere and freezing to death.

30 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2008

Erratic readings with offsets in the speedometer.

31 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2008

I am a single mother of one 11 year old son. I have just purchased a 2004 GMC Yukon and I have serious safety concerns. I have a loud popping noise in my steering column and my speedometer is operating very erratically. I have an extended warranty and have been told by my local GMC dealer that these problems are not covered. My concern is if I should be killed in an accident on the interstate because I can not tell how fast I am traveling when the front steering breaks due to a steering component failure who will raise my son the state or GMC? I have lost all respect for GMC and their products.

32 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2008

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon denali. While driving at an unknown speed, the contact observed that the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading. The failure normally would occur only during the cold winter temperatures; however, the failure became progressively worse intermittently during hot temperatures. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was not available.

33 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2007

The speedometer is starting to increase in a ticking sort of way, sometimes getting stuck and/or pegging out at 120mph then falling back into range. It started when the vehicle reached about 45,500 miles. It now has 45,600 miles on it, and it seems to be getting worse.

34 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2007

The speedometer in my Yukon has stopped working and has been stuck @ 125mph since 37,000 miles.

35 Instrument Panel problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2007

Driving home on a three hour trip, I noticed my speedometer quit working, about 15 minutes after getting a ticket for speeding. I noticed the speedometer would either stick at the speed I was going at one point in time, then sometimes it would just fall to 0. Gm has a TSB out for the issue, but only for 7 years 70,000 miles. I have contacted them since I bought my vehicle with 96,000 miles on it, they said there was nothing they could do. I contacted my local service center and was amazed at the 600$ fixing price. Nothing has been done to fix what I and everyone else would consider a recall that they don't.
