2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2017

The check engine light came on along with the service traction control and service stabilitrac lights while driving on the street near home. The truck immediately loss power and I had to limp back home. After getting the vehicle to the dealer, I'm told that the engine has a collapsed lifter in cylinder seven. I don't understand how an engine can experience that type of failure with only 44. 000 miles. I contacted gm and their stance is regardless of low mileage, the vehicle is out of warrantee. This issue presents a serious hazard, because a failure like this, if occurred on a highway could cause a catastrophic event with the sudden loss of engine power. Not to mention the financial burden as it cost me $3700 to have the engine repaired. In checking consumer complaints, this is not an isolated incident. The gm 5. 3l engine is notorious for this malfunction. When talking with a gm corporate rep I stated, I believe this to be a design flaw, or defect part, but was blown off because I'm out of warrantee. What happened to standing behind your product?.

Failure Date: 05/24/2017

The service stabilitrak light comes on along with the check engine light causing the truck to shut off or not move. This has happened while am on the freeway, city street and stopped at a stop light. I have took my truck in for the same problem more then four times and same issue keeps happening.

My stabitity trac control lot popped on, check engine light, tire pressure light and now my low oil pressure light popped on saying stop engine.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

While my wife was driving on the interstate highway at 55mph, the SUV check engine light came on, followed by a traction control warning on the display, then the vehicle went into "limp mode", reducing power and speed to approx 20 mph. She turned on the hazards, and moved into the right lane as other vehicles went around her at the posted speed limit as the engine was bucking and missing. She exited the highway and limped the truck, barely getting up to 20 mph to a service shop. They scanned the codes, the only one there directed them to change the throttle body, ($580). The vehicle ran good for 3 days, then all the same bells and whistles came back. GMC service said they have no knowledge of a problem. Upon researching this online, I found it's far from uncommon. If this has not caused an accident yet, its only a matter of time. .

6 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

Without warning, check engine light, reduced power and stability system shut down dash board engine light came on and stayed on. Had engine code scanned (p2138, p0102) still problem is not resolved. Dealer was no help just wanted to sell parts that may fix it.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

As I was driving 'oil pressure is low, cut the engine off' warning came on and the oil light was on. That also triggered the traction control/stabilitrak light to come on. From then on whenever I drive the vehicle those lights come on as well as the check engine light. This is apparently a common problem with the GMC 2007 engine. There are multiple forms from chevy, Cadillac, and GMC where consumers that have these engines are experiencing this problem. When we take it to dealerships we are told to change the engine. I was just quoted over $8000 to change this engine. I can't even sell this truck without losing my shirt. We need help out here. Gm knows that this is a problem because the dealerships know. They are sweeping this under the rug until some people die because of it!.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

On July 26, 2013 I was in my 2007 GMC Yukon denali when I had an issue. I was in my car, the engine was running but it was in park. I was idling for about 5 minutes when I received a "engine power reduced", followed by the check engine light. I immediately shut the car off and gave it about 20 minutes before I turned the car back on again. The check engine light was still on with the "engine power reduced", followed by "service stabilitrac", "stabilitrac off", service traction control", "traction control off", and "power assist off". I immediately called the local GMC dealership and they told me to try to bring the car into the dealership to see what they could do. After I brought my car to the service department I was told that the sensor behind the gas pedal needed to be replaced. They replaced the part for roughly about $300 and the check engine light went away with all of the messages. Since the repair I drove the car for about 60 miles and the check engine light did not come on again, and the car seems to be fixed. Please look into this matter since there are quite a few of us with this same issue.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

I was drving my vehicle. The traction control light came on, and the check engine light came on right after. The truck then began to idle strange like it was going to stall. I drove it home while talking to my husband he stated since I just filled up the tank maybe it was bad gas. I drove it home which was about 5 miles down the road. As soon as I pulled into the driveway , the service brake system came up on the dash and the my truck started making this horrible clicking. I later found out the motor is gone and threw a rod. I think its pretty odd that all these people are having issues with the traction control light coming on then the engine acts up. This is a problem GMC needs to fix, they dont feel its their problem to deal with.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2011

I was driving the vehicle down the road doing 65 mph. The engine light came on and the message appeared that stated "engine power reduced" "service stablitract" "traction control off". The car lost all power and I was unable to go over 20 mph the rest of my trip home. I went from 65 mph to 20 mph in seconds, on the interstate full of traffic. When I got home I then noticed a "hot" smell. I then had the car towed to a mechanic.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

The contact owns a 2007 GMC Yukon. The contact was driving 55 mph when the check engine warning light illuminated and the engine reducing power warning message also illuminated. The vehicle began to lose power and the contact was unable to maneuver the steering wheel. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer for inspection but not repaired. The failure persisted and the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times in regards to the failure but never repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the auto body assembly be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 76,187 and the current 77,600.

12 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

I noticed an approximate 4'' crack on my dash between the windshield and steering wheel hump. I then noticed a similar crack emerging near the top left portion of the front passenger side air bag. I thought maybe the employees where I get my car wash were applying too much pressure. However, after looking online to buy a new dash, I found that I was among many GMC owners that have the same issue. I dont think it is a coincidence that we all have the same cracks, in the same location on the dash. Also, the chrome plating on both my driver and front passenger inner door handles is peeling off. I heard that exposure to the sun may be a cause, however, my two front windows have had 5% tint on them since I bought it. Also, I just got my vehicle back from the dealership because of check engine light issues. The problem is fixed for now, however, after researching online it seems like there are hundreds of GMC Yukon owners experience very similar issues with their vehicle's engine. I keep reading about the "reduced engine power" and "service stabilitrak" warnings.
