GMC Yukon owners have reported 41 problems related to brake antilock wheel speed sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of GMC Yukon based on all problems reported for the Yukon.
Having an ongoing issue while driving. I've ben on the highway in the rain and snow going 65-70 mph as well as dry pavement. All of a sudden my dashboard will light up saying service traction control, brake system, abs , park assist off and check engine lights up and blinks . I will loose my brakes I then have to pump my brakes several times to get to even slow down or stop . It's also happened when I am driving down a residential street. When I pull over turn the truck off and goes back to normal for a short distance. Weather doesn't seem to be a factor or speed. Taken vehicle to dealership and they don't find anything wrong. Had them replace bearings as well as speed sensors and it is still happening. And I had a code come up for cylinder misfire and knock sensor. Then take it garage and nothing is wrong.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Yukon. While driving at an unknown speed, the abs and brake warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to Buick GMC of kirkland (12335 120th Ave ne, kirkland, wa 98034, (877) 505-6211) where it was diagnosed that the front driver and passenger side wheel speed sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v761000 (electronic stability control, service brakes, hydraulic, service brakes). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

Severe brake line corrosion and corrosion at wheel speed sensors causes abs to activate at low speeds. I had 2 near miss crashes and then car would not stop and I hit a fence in my yard yesterday. I have 4 other vehicles , a Dodge, BMW, and 2 Honda, all older than this one, and do not have the. Corrosion on the brake lines. There is an issue with the material used in the GMC brake lines that causes it to severely corrode. Malfunction occurs intermittently.

When braking, the antilock brakes kick in no matter if needed or not. We have had several close calls on both city streets & highways. The car was already recalled and fixed for front wheel speed sensor corrosion, 05v379000, and the same thing is happening again. The sensor was not replaced, just cleaned and put back in. I don't understand how this fixed the problem when the corrosion can come back and did. It was just 30,000 miles later. We have taken it to a dealer and have called gm. We were told the recall is fixed and it will cost us $423. 00 per side to fix plus tax. Please help and let us know what to do next.

There is a recall #05068 that describes exactly what happens while driving my car. It occurs every time I drive my car, every time I accelerate and brake. (2003 GMC Yukon xl). However, GMC claims my car "isn't effected" and they refuse to fix it. My issues are 1. Getting dangerous, as the car bogs and won't accelerate without a period of hesitation and then it gives too much acceleration which can be bad if I'm on a slippery surface. Also, there is a common problem on these vehicles which is another problem I am experiencing: 2. My abs kicks in randomly, even if the pavement is totally dry and clear. Apparently, this is caused by a corroded mounting surface for the front wheel speed sensors. The corrosion builds up causing excessive gap between mounting surface and wheel speed sensor which causes a loss of wheel speed sensor signal. When the abs module sees the loss of signal it thinks the vehicle is sliding out of control so it will activate the traction control or abs. Description from recall #05068: certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. This recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont. . . Hazard:this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.

Tl - the contact owns a 2003 GMC Yukon denali xl. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the abs engaged without any warnings. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the speed sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 176,000. Pm.
As vehicle is slowing to a stop, the abs engages lifts the brake pedal, essentially allowing the vehicle to roll forward, and requiring a quick reaction to strongly depress the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. This is caused by a faulty and corroded abs speed sensor, which has been recalled on these vehicles from 2002, but the recall does not include the 2001 year. Another known issue is faulty abs modules in these vehicles which turn on the dashboard brake and abs warning lights periodically although there is nothing wrong with the brakes or abs.

When slowing down at an intersection stop light, at the speed of under 10 mph, the abs brakes suddenly kicked in and pulsated, not allowing the truck to stop. This almost resulted in a rear end collision with a stopped vehicle in front of me. After pulling into a parking lot the same issue happened again, causing me to panic and stump on the brakes hard before running into the parking blocks in front of a business. After taking the vehicle to the mechanics they could not diagnose a problem. Even though there was no abs warning light or error code, we elected to replace both abs speed sensors as a precaution. The problem still existed. I decided to have both front and rear brakes including rotors replaced as a precaution. The problem still accures with every slower speed attemp to stop. I am very reluctant to drive the vehicle and when I due, I have to begin my braking well in advance and at a increased distance from where I would like to stop.

I have a 2002 GMC Yukon 4wd and have had recurring problems with my abs activating at slow speeds. The vehicle has been repaired by the local GMC dealer 3-5 times but keeps recurring 10-15k miles later. The problem occurs at slow speeds, such as coming to a stop or in heavy commuter traffic. The abs activates and the Yukon is difficult to stop. The dealer claims they are unaware of any problems along this line, but I have paid several times to get it repaired and nobody seems to know why it keeps failing. The failure to stop has resulted in two small collisions but no damage was done to my vehicle or the others. The problem is occurring again, but the $500/pair of sensors is proving to be a burden to keep fixing. I believe the speed sensor was adjusted the other times the abs was faulty, but the details are difficult to determine. Any and all help is appreciated! I realize my vehicle is 8 years old with 80k miles on it, but this problem has been repaired under warranty several times and the problem remains, expensively, after the warranty has expired.
Abs activates during slow stops, increases stopping distance. Dealer performed recall 05v37900 and problem persists. Dealer replaced both front speed sensors and problem persists. I believe problem is corrosion in front wheel hubs on tone ring. Recall does not address that part.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated that he had issues with the brakes on his vehicle. The sensor would automatically apply the brakes while accelerating from a stop. In addition, the brakes would automatically lock while driving at low speeds. A mechanic stated that the wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced. There was no recall so the dealer would not replace the component for free. The contact took his vehicle to the dealer and was informed that there was a TSB for the failure. He would have to pay $300 to replace the wheel speed sensor. The contact informed the dealer that he would have his mechanic repair it for $75. The failure mileage was 102,783.
The contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl denali. While driving 25 mph, the contact noticed that the abs and brake indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle had not experienced any braking failure while driving. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and the technician stated that the abs was malfunctioning, the speed sensor was failing, and the speed connectors were corroded. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was included in a recall pertaining to the speed sensor and advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer for repair. Once at the dealer, they refused to make the repairs because her VIN was not included in the recall. The contact called the manufacturer back and they confirmed that the vehicle was not included and stated that no repairs would be made. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 140,000 and current mileage was 146,000.
Corrosion between front hub/bearing assembly and wheel speed sensor in GMC Yukon xl causing unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) activation when vehicle is traveling at a speed of approx. 7 mph during braking. Can lead to crash. Recall bulletin 05068 covers this issue and my VIN is in the bulletin for recall, but gm will not cover expense for repair. Their electronic database doesn't have my VIN in the system and refuse service despite its inclusion within the recall. I live in ohio and bought the vehicle in ohio. The recall covers ohio vehicles and other high corrosion states in the u. S.

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon xl. When the brake pedal was depressed, the contact experienced unwanted antilock brake activation. As a result, the vehicle lunges forward before coming to a complete stop. The dealer replaced the antilock speed sensor and the front hub assembly at the cost of $600. The failure mileage was 62,500 and current mileage was 63,630. Updated 11/14/08. Updated 11/18/08.
When stopping the antilock brake system activates at slow speed greatly increasing stopping distance. Specially when towing my boat. I had a slight fender bender with no injuries. This condition happens daily. My wheel speed sensors were replaced by a dealer. I was told that there was a recall for Yukons 2000 and up. Our Yukon is a 1999 with the same issue. See NHTSA action number pe05020 and NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000.
1999 GMC Yukon 4wd with 110,000 miles. Abs activation at low speed (4 mph and less), and causes increased stopping distance, happens regularly. Have had several close calls, and one incident that did not result in injury or damage to either vehicle. News report dated August 30, 2005 stated GMC was recalling about 800,000 sport utility vehicles and pickups because of corrosion was affecting the abs leading to more than 200 low-speed crashes. Gm recall #05v-379 suggest that 1999 vehicles are subject to recall, but gm customer service line and local dealership denies that the recall applies to my vehicle.
1999 GMC Yukon 4wd. Abs activation at low speed, increased stopping distance, happens regularly. Several close calls, but no collisions (yet). Nhtsa campaign id #05v379000, gm recall #05v-379 suggest that 1999 vehicles are subject to recall, but gm customer service line denies that the recall applies to my vehicle.
Antilock brakes pulse and make activation noise at low speed regardless of road conditions.
The contact owns a 2000 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the abs system activated independently while driving 5 mph, causing an increase in stopping distance and time. The contact had the vehicle serviced under NHTSA campaign I. D. Number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) but the repair did not remedy the issue. The contact had the wheel speed sensor twice but it also did not correct the issue. The failure mileage was 82,000.
When driving at low speeds (less than 10 miles per hour) or starting from a stop, the traction control will automatically engage when the gas pedal is applied. When the traction control engages, a total loss of input to the engine results and the vehicle does not move (it essentially stalls). I was almost struck in an intersection while waiting to make a left turn on a green light in early December of 2011. I was stopped in the middle of the intersection waiting to turn left. When I attempted to turn left, I gave the gas pedal some input, the traction control engaged, and my vehicle stopped because there was no engine input and was almost hit by an on-coming car. Luckily, this had happened before and I knew to either floor the gas pedal or to let off the gas entirely and then floor it again to get the traction control to disengage and get power to the engine. Another related issue is the abs engaging for no reason. This also happens at low speeds (less than 10 mph). When the abs engages, the vehicle will travel another two to three feet prior to stopping. The abs issue resulted in my hitting a pole in a parking lot. It took several years to finally determine what the issue was and it turns out it was a result of front wheel speed sensor corrosion and an increased air gap between the wheel speed sensor and the reluctor ring due to rust and debris built up on the sensor mounting surface. Gm acknowledged this with a safety recall (#05068c: product safety) for some vehicle model years 1999-2002. This is a serious safety issue and gm fails to recognize that vehicles like mine (a 2003) and even later models have the same problem. What is even more frustrating is that the dealership could not properly diagnose the problem for several years because they could not "replicate the problem . " I would encourage the nhsta to investigate this issue.
Gm recall # 05068 for this safety issue. This recall pertains to certain pickup trucks and SUV's between 1999 and 2002 and failing abs at slow speeds which causes the brakes to pulsate and to not work correctly. The recall covered most of the ne states (salt belt) and was caused by corrosion. The abs low speed sensor's would malfunction and cause the abs to activate and the vehicle would not stop (as if slipping). I own a 1999 GMC Yukon with 70k miles and the abs sensors are shot. I called gm, they told me to contact a local dealer, when I did, the dealer said they would talk to the gm rep. Final answer from gm . . . Since my VIN was not part of the recall, they will do nothing. They want $300 to fix my 99 Yukon, the same problem they would fix for free if it were a 1999 sierra k1500 truck or a 2000 Yukon, both vehicles using the same abs sensors. My 1999 GMC Yukon is a k1500 (as stated on the original sticker) and that vehicle is covered by the recall as well as the 2000 Yukon. I have checked and the replacement sensors are the same for my 99 Yukon as they are for the 99 k1500 and the 2000 Yukon. Gm dealer said to me, "well you truck is out of warranty". What does that have to do with a safety recall. I have names from the dealership, the local gm rep, gm customer service call #71-550013xxx. Both gm and the dealership have refused to fix my vehicle under the gm recall, stating that “since your VIN is not listed in the recall, there is nothing we can do. - the contact stated that while driving his 1999 GMC Yukon and coming to a stop he could hear the abs engaged. While trying to stop the vehicle it continued to roll a few more feet. The contact stated that this happened everyday, and he tried to get the dealership to do something to fix the abs. The abs prevented him from coming to a complete stop. This failure caused a crash. The contact's vehicle struck another vehicle while trying to come to a complete stop. The impact was minor and little damage was done. The contact called the manufacturer, and was told to call the dealership. The contact called the dealership, and was advised that the vehicle was out of warranty, and he would be responsible for any diagnostics services. The contact was given a recall bulletin number from NHTSA # 05v379000, stating that dealership was to remove the wheel speed sensor. Updated 03/07/jb.
: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at 5 mph, the antilock brakes engaged, and there was an increased stopping distance. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the wheel speed sensors of the antilock brakes needed to be replaced. There was a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 12/18/2006 -.
: the contact stated while driving 5mph and below, the abs engaged. As a result, the stopping distance was increased. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, concerning the abs. The vehicle has the same problems as in the recall; however is not included in the recall because of the VIN. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who recommended cleaning the wheel speed sensor however, the contact declined.
The contact stated the abs activated at low speeds, the abs speed sensor has been replaced twice. There was NHTSA recall campaign 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it was not included in the recall due to the VIN.
: the contact stated while applying brake pressure at 5mph or less, the abs activated on dry road conditions with an increased stopping distance. The vehicle was seen by a dealer who replaced the front wheel speed sensor and bearing assemblies. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.
I recently had my 1999 GMC Yukon serviced for abs wheel sensor failure. Remedy was replacement of both front wheel abs speed sensors. After the service, I was made aware of gm recall #05068 having to do with abs wheel sensors malfunctioning due to salt corrosion. My vehicle has been registered in new york state from 1999 to 2003. Currently, it is registered in virginia. I was told by gm that my vehicle will not be recalled because it is not registered in a "salt belt state". I requested that my vehicle be included in this recall due to it being registered and used in new york most of its' in service time. My claim was denied because the vehicle is currently registered in virginia. I was further told by gm that if my vehicle was still registered in NY, the recall would be issued. I feel this recall should be issued to vehicles affected, not just vehicles that are currently located in a certain geographical location.
The speed sensor fails at speeds between 6 and 9 mpg; resulting in no or limited ability to brake. Repeated near accidents have occurred in traffic and in parking situations. The vehicle is being repaired at this time at jim murphy pontiac-GMC truck, inc. 3000 walden Ave depew, NY 14043 phone: 716-684-8900 fax: 716-684-9050. I understand gm has recalled practically identical vehicles such as the gm tahoe, suburban, etc. My understanding is that the GMC Yukon denali is virtually the same vehicle as the gm tahoe. I would like to understand why that recall is not applied to the GMC Yukons.
2002 GMC Yukon front wheel assembly had to be replaced. After the recall for the wheel speed sensor was complete the dealer claimed they also had to replace the left hub assembly due to corrosion. The replacement of the hub was not going to be cover under warranty because it had expired.
My 2000 GMC Yukon denali is experiencing problems as described in recall 05068 from GMC. GMC has told me that my vehicle falls under the right time frame but does not fall under the right VIN numbers. I am having the exact same problems! the following is an email that I received from GMC: vehicles of a model year are affected. There is an upcoming recall 05068 front wheel speed sensor- description: abs wheel sensors. General motors will notify all owners of involved vehicles beginning 10/12/2005. Please make sure the local department of motor divisions (dmv) has your current information for mailing purposes in case your vehicle is involved in the recall. Below are some information that may be helpful for the upcoming recall. Description of condition: some of the subject vehicles may experience extended stopping distance associated with unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) activation during low-speed brake applications (less than 10 mph and greater than 3. 7 mph). This condition does not set any abs codes nor does it illuminate the abs warning lamp. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas, based on field report data. Consequence of condition: when the peak-to-peak wheel speed sensor voltage level received at the abs controller is below the minimum specified peak-to-peak level, the abs controller interprets this as a wheel speed that is less than the actual wheel speed. In other words, the abs interprets the wheel as slipping when it is not. If the brakes are applied, an extended stopping distance may be required.
According to gm, my vehicle is not included in recall #05068 front wheel speed sensor corrosion. However, my vehicle most certainly did have this defect, which came close to causing me 2 rear-end collisions. I had the repairs made at a gm dealer and am seeking reimbursement, but have been told I can't be because my VIN is not on the recall. Please help me notify gm that they need to include my vehicle and send me the recall notice.
There is a an ongoing investigation on the issue consumer was experiencing ,NHTSA investigation pe05020. While driving at low speeds under 5 mph abs engaged when applying brakes. The wheel speed sensor improperly responded with pedal depressed and a loss of brakes. Took vehicle to the dealer for repairs and the left front wheel hub bearing assembly was replaced along with the wheel speed sensor. Since this repairs the problem has been corrected. Consumer did contact gm, who noted no recall in the us.
I have a 1999 GMC Yukon SUV and I've been told that the abs sensors are corroded because of the salt used on the roads here in mi in the winter. There is a recall on these vehicles at the present time but when I took my vehicle in for the necessary repair they told me the VIN # was not on their list. Whenever I stop at an intersection or red light or pull up to park I have a growling noise as I apply the brakes and a slipping of the brake pedal and the car keeps on moving when I think its going to stop. I have had the dealer drive the vehicle and also a brake mechanic and both state it is due to the corrosion that has formed under the wheel speed sensor and moves the sensor away from the integral speed-sensor toothed ring. The condition does not set any abs codes nor does it illuminate the abs warning lamp. The recall ( 05068) by gm procedure involves removing the wheel speed sensors cleaning the sensor mounting surfaces on the bearings, applying zinc-x to the cleaned surfaces, greasing the mounting surfaces, reinstalling the speed sensors, and verifying that the wheel speed signal output voltages were within specification. I cannot understand why my vehicle hasn't been recalled especially when I am experiencing the exact symptoms as others that have been recalled! I have not had the vehicle fixed yet as I am waiting to be accepted on the list. Can you please help in accomplishing this for me before their is an accident. Thank you.
