36 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 05/20/2005

1999 GMC Yukon experienced anti- lock brake problems related to speed sensor corrosion. Sensors were replaced by dealer in may 2005 pursuant to the ongoing investigation of the problem at that time. Understanding that in the event of a recall, I would be reimbursed. Initial recall correspondence by gm to NHTSA in August indicated that 1999 Yukons were covered by recall. Same correspondence was sent to dealers in August 2005 indicating coverage of 1999 Yukons. Recall correspondence from GMC to dealers and owners in October, 2005 now do not cover 1999 Yukon's. I had these repairs made with the understanding that an investigation was underway, involving 1999 Yukon's and with assurances from dealer that reimbursement would be made if recall was warranted. On 11/23/05 spoke with gm and dealer and both indicate that recall on this vehicle is not warranted and reimbursement is not authorized.

37 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/01/2005

2002 GMC Yukon, the vehicle's front wheel speed sensor corroded. When the brakes were applied, while the vehicle was traveling at speeds greater than 3. 7 mph, but less than 10 mph, the corrosion caused the abs to activation. If this were to occur where stopping distance is limited a crash may occur. Vehicles have a condition permitting corrosion to occur between the front hub-barring assemble in the wheel speed sensor. This is the exact problem that the consumer is experiencing with his vehicle. It is also, the same information that is include in a manufactures recall in the nation of canada. Recall date Jan. 25, 2005 product safety recall I. D. 04094 and the document I. D. 1587153. Consumer had taken the vehicle to dealer they said that they would not repair the vehicle unless the he paid for the repair out of pocket. They dealer also told the consumer about the recall in canada. The consumer had contacted the manufacture, which told him that they would not do anything about it because the recall is in canada. The consumer had taken it to the following three dealerships: denooyer cheverolet 518-458-7700, depaula cheverolet 518-489-5551, goldstein GMC 518-869-2291, all three are located in albany, new york. Consumer also, found a NHTSA action no. Pe05020 that is very similar to his complaint.

38 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/01/2005

My 1999 GMC Yukon slt 4x4 5. 7l VIN 1gkek13r4xj705330 has the same unwanted low speed abs activation that is currently being recalled on 1999 and up GMC light trucks. I contacted two local dealers and they both told me that me VIN was not recalled. I also called gm directly and was told the same thing. I think the scope of this recall needs to be expanded. I recently had to replace the rf wheel speed sensor and the problem has gone away. The abs/wheel speed sensor is not sold separately from the hub assembly. I paid $380. 00 plus labor for an aftermarket hub assembly just to get an $80 sensor. I have the old sensor.

39 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/25/2004

After experiencing abs problems and immediately repairing our 2001 GMC Yukon xl regarding the corrosion between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor last year (the hubs and sensors were cleaned and lubed, not replaced), our abs warning light appeared two weeks after the repair. We also began hearing a rubbing sound coming from the front wheels when driving. We notified bob sellers about this, and they reset the abs light. On the way home, the abs warning light came on again. When we took the Yukon in to bob sellers to investigate further, they did a computer scan check with the codes indicating "pump motor ck open" and pump motor k shorted. " they also typed "clear codes road test over 15 miles, abs did not reset codes. " bob sellers now quotes us over $1,000. 00 to repair the motor, something we cannot afford. We are very suspicious how this occurred in tandem with the repair and are asking for NHTSA to please look into this. When we needed our abs to engage during the winter season, they failed. Our Yukon was recently taken in again when the recall regarding the aforementioned problem was issued, and once again, all bob sellers did was clean and lube the sensors, not replace them. Please advise, so my family and I are not at risk with this horrible brake situation as the winter season approaches. Thank you.

40 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

The anti- lock brakes at lower speeds feel like the vehicle wants to keep going, and pulsate when applied before stopping. This happens most of the time, at low speeds. There has been no complete failure at this time (I expect it know when to stop it). I tried having this fixed at a garage and they replaced the wheel baring because they said it contains the speed sensor (it didn't work). The abs kicks in when going forward and reverse.

41 Brake Antilock Wheel Speed Sensor problem of the 1999 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/03/2003

When slowing down the anti lock brakes kick in and it takes longer to stop the truck. The consumer has hit a fence and almost hit a person. Had the problem fixed and then heard about the problem on the news. The front abs wheel speed sensors and master cylinder was replaced.
