1 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2011 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/01/2018

Abs brake problem. Reoccurring engine problems such as misfire, low cylinder compression, afm lifters, camshaft, fuel mix and brake switch causes check engine light to come on. This causes stabilitrak and traction control to be turned off. Discussions with several mechanics indicated a new engine would be the only way to fix this problem. Even with a new engine, the problem persists. The check engine light continues to be "on" and stabilitrak and traction control continue to go on and off, and living in mi it is concerning me that I may lose these braking functions when I need them. GMC has offered no solutions. Many, many forum discussions on the web indicate owners such as me should create a class-action lawsuit, as there does not appear to be a solution to this problem. The stabilitrak and traction control goes on and off as I am driving, typically on a highway.

2 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

The contact owns a 2005 GMC Yukon denali xl. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the brakes failed as the check engine warning light illuminated. Also, the contact mentioned that the power steering fluid would need to be replaced every six months. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering cylinder, the power steering hoses, the master brake cylinder, and the braking system needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 98,000.

3 Brake Drum Wheel Cylinder problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

While coming to a stop, at low speed on dry pavement my vehicle's antilock brake system (abs) activated and despite continued pressure on the brake peddle the vehicle advanced ~8 feet beyond the intended stopping position, nearly hitting a stopped school the process. Intrigued by the problem I experimented to better understand the intermittent problem for several weeks before, for safety reasons, defeating the abs by removing the fuse that powers the control module. As I have now discovered, activation of the abs to low speeds continues to be a relatively common problem with gm light trucks of the 2000 model year and newer. Indeed my vehicle was recalled in December, 2005 to supposedly provide a "fix" so that this problem would not occur. I have spoken with a gm engineer (maybe a marketing person in reality) who told me some nonsense about this not being a recurrence of the sensor problem. Actually it was the conversation with the engineer that lead to making this complaint. I am not so upset about the fact that the system failed, failure do occur, the problem is with how the system reacted in failure. I work on vehicle sensor systems (suspensions and fluid diagnostics) and a major design constraint for any system is that any failure mode cannot not lead to an unsafe condition. In the case of my vehicle's abs, the failure mode almost allow me to hit the school bus. I thought dual channel master brake cylinders were required many years ago (1968 if I recall correctly) to take the excitement out of brake failures. Looks like gm has tried to renew the thrill of brake failure.
