I was driving around town when the brakes felt a little soft. The next morning there was a puddle of brake fluid under the vehicle. I put in a half a bottle of brake fluid into the reservoir. I drove to the house and parked it. Several minutes after parking there was the beginning of a puddle of brake fluid. I made several other stops and at each stop brake fluid was beginning to leak when vehicle was turned off. Took vehicle to shop and was told that the brake lines all needed to be replaced.

43 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 02/13/2013

Driving vehicle at approx 45mph, came to stop at red light and brake pedal went completely to the floor. Pumped the brake pedal again and nothing. Down shifted transmission to slow down and pressed the emergency brake to come to a stop. Pulled over to the side of the road, lifted the hood no brake fluid in rear section of master cylinder. Noticed brake fluid dripping under the front of the drivers door on the ground. Had the vehicle towed home and looked under the vehicle and the brake line was dripping fluid. The brake lines are completely rusted and the frame is really rusted. Just got the vehicle out of the GMC shop for routine service. Can't figure why they didn't notice or at least tell me that I might have a problem. I called them and advise what issue I was having. They advised that gm would not cove the issue and 1300. 00 would maybe cover the line replacement plus. I am not happy. Worked hard to buy this vehicle and now that I am retired from the military I really do not have the funds to replace the lines and do something about the rusty frame.

47 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

Brake lines severely rusted. While driving home from town, brakes went from working great---to brake pedal hitting the floor, stopped and found large amount of brake fluid leaking onto ground. Was able to make it home with brake peddle hitting floor and brake line failure light and audio warning. Approx. One month earlier, parking brake line, rusted through and broke. Upon searching for brake line leak, I was frightened on how rusted out all the brakes lines are,.

48 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

I have had 2 incidents with my 02 GMC Yukon where the brake lines have failed due to early and unexpected/unreasonable corrosion where they failed without warning almost caused serious accidents. The first incident occurred with about 76,000 miles on the car and I was driving on the highway and applied the brakes as I approached the exit ramp and the pedal went straight to the floor without the vehicle stopping. With my family in the car I drifted past the exit and approximately another 1 mile before finally coming to a stop on the shoulder. After getting the car towed to a local mechanic, they informed me that the rear brake lines rusted through and this was a common problem they see on gm vehicles. They were surprised I was not in a serious accident and I paid $500 to have the replacement lines fabricated. About a year later with about 85,000 miles on the vehicle and again without warning as my wife was driving my children across a bridge and attempted to brake and again the pedal went straight down to the floor not stopping the vehicle and she held down the horn to warn pedestrians and other cars. The vehicle finally stopped after running 2 red lights. The mechanic indicated that all the lines coming out of the master cylinder/booster were rusted through and brake fluid was pouring out. Again having to fabricate and replace all the lines out of the master cylinder was expensive, this time costing $1,500. The NHTSA needs to do a full investigation of this problem as I have heard many times that this is a faulty design and extremely dangerous requiring a recall. I take good care of my cars, have the undercarriage cleaned frequently and ask my mechanic to inspect everything on the car on a bi-annual basis and these incidents happen without warning. I hope gm will reimburse all those like me who spent thousands fixing the vehicle after a very dangerous situation.

49 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

I was driving on route 287 north, in morristown, NJ when the car in front of me stopped short and I needed to apply my brakes. When I used my brake pedal, the pedal went all the way down to the floor and I could not stop. I was able to avoid the vehicle in front of me, and I swerved to avoid other cars. I rolled to a stop on the grass shoulder of the highway and found a puddle of brake fluid under the car. After inspection of the brakes done by a certified gm mechanic, he found that all of the brake lines in the car burst open due to heavy corrosion leading to the complete failure of the system. His recommendation was to replace all brake lines in the vehicle as none of them were able to be salvaged.

50 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/10/2012

The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while engaging the brakes, the pedal went all the way to the floorboard and the vehicle failed to stop. The contact mentioned that after the vehicle slowed down and he shifted into park he noticed brake fluid leaking from the front and rear brakes. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake lines were completely corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included on any recalls. The failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.

51 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

52 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

I was driving my Yukon in rush hour traffic when I found it necessary to attempt a panic stop. I pressed on the brake pedal and felt somthing give way and the pedal went to the floor. I attempted applying the brakes again and again the brake pedal went to the floor. I nursed the vehicle to a parking lot and looked underneath and found brake fluid dripping from the frame on the drivers side just before the rear wheel. I inspected the brake lines and found them to be very corroded and the one line leading to the rear brakes was split open. I have since replaced the brake line from the abs unit under the drivers seat to the junction near the spare wheel. I have inspected the other brake lines and found they are corroded also.

55 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/11/2012

My GMC Yukon experienced total brake failure. My wife was driving with our 3 month old son and luckily she was able to stop off of the side of the road in a field. When I arrived, I found a puddle of fluid under the driver side seat from badly corroded steel brake lines. After only a few minutes of online researching, I have found thousands of similar stories; some of which ended much worse. Clearly this is a quality and safety issue.

56 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

I started vehicle, depressed the brake pedal, I then placed the shifter into reverse and proceeded to drive when I realized the vehicle wasnt stopping as usual. I then put the shifter into drive and parked it . I got out of the vehicle and noticed alot of fluid (on the drivers side) all over the ground. I called a tow truck to have it moved to a mechanics location for further inspection. The main (corroded) brake line burst causing fluid to leak everywhere and creating a potetially serious life threatening driving hazard ( brake failure) had I not parked the vehicle it would have been a different ending. . . . This needs to investigated immediately.

57 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

I applied the brakes on my vehicle in the driveway and felt a pop and the brake pedal went to the floor. I pumped the pedal a few times and it went to the floor each time. I looked around the vehicle and there was a puddle of brake fluid under the drivers side rear door. I felt around the frame where the leak was and felt a very corroded brake line. I searched online and found that many gm truck owners have had this problem and there is an NHTSA investigation and engineering analysis. I'd like to know if gm is going to recall these trucks for this issue.

58 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/26/2011

The contact owns a 2004 GMC Yukon denali. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle brakes failed and was depressed to the floorboard. 61 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/05/2011

As I was driving home from work late this afternoon on July 05, 2011 on rt 589 in pasco county FL, I was coming off the exit to a red light and I could not stop. I had to push the brake pedal to the floor and hold it there in order to stop just short of the intersection. Luckily there were no cars in the right lane going through the intersection at the same time. I pulled over after the light turned green and noticed fluid squirting out above the passenger rear tire area. After I made it home I pulled the tire off and looked around and notice two heavily corroded lines where the fluid was coming out.

62 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

On June 11, 2011 I drove my 2001 GMC Yukon xl from carle place NY to summit NJ. The trip consisted of mainly highway mileage. Everything seemed fine until I reached my destination. I made a left into a parking lot and the brake pedal became unresponsive. I pulled into a spot and jammed on the brakes. The vehicle rolled and hopped the curb and bumped into a fence. I broke a few boards. I put the truck in neutral, rolled back into the spot, and used the parking\emergency break to stop. I got out, open the hood and saw I was low on brake fluid. I looked down and there was a large puddle of brake fluid under my vehicle. I looked under and saw brake fluid dripping out. I reached under to see where the drip was coming from. It appears the line burst. Called aaa and had the truck towed back to NY. Upon further inspection, I noticed all the break lines completely rusted. It was a matter of time the other lines would fail. If I drove another mile in NJ I would have been in an accident. Thank god I was not on the highway when this happened. This definitely need to be investigated. There should be a high standard when it comes to brakes. Stopping a vehicle is more critical than making it move. I called GMC and they said no recalls exisit for my vehical. They're solution is to visit a service center for repair. 99% sure I will be eating this expense.

63 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2007 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 01/06/2011

We got our brakes fixed at the dealer about six months ago and we continued to complain of noises and squeaking, but the dealer said it was just dust because they were new. After months of complaining, we begin to receive oil changes free of charge with no explanations. January 6, 2011 I went in for a routine oil change and I was told that the brake caliber was broken and leaking brake fluid;she also said I need new front brake pads; both of the rotors are broken and need to be replaced and I have been complaining about the brakes for almost 4-6 months. Also the differential is making a loud noise as well. Estimation of; the brake caliber and pads is $550; both rotor $1000 and differential problem $1000 which I will have to pay. I believe these problems are manufacturer related and should dealt with immediately. The dealer kept my car and stated it was unsafe to drive. I was not offered a loaner after explaining that I only have one vehicle and will not be able to get back and forth to work. I was not given and estimated time of when the car would be completed for repairs. Immediate response to this claim is warranted before I spend any out of pocket money on something that is definitely a manufacturer problem or an error by one of the mechanics sooner before the problem escalated into further damages.

65 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/22/2010

Pulling horse trailer with 2001 GMC Yukon xl, brake pedal went to floor, took long distance to stop. Made it back home, saw dripping brake fluid around left rear wheel well. Put truck on floor jack, pulled wheel. Applied brake, observed brake fluid squirt from pinhole in severely corroded brake line (the line attached to the top of the rear axle on driver side). The hole is located in the steel brake line where it joins the junction with the flexible hose and the steel line running to the opposite wheel (near center of rear axle). Will replace line today, will keep old part (corroded line) available. All other steel brake lines have rust in places.

66 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/21/2010

The brakes recently failed on our 2002 GMC Yukon xl 1500 4wd SUV. While descending a moderately steep hill on our street, my wife depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle, and the pedal went all of the way to the floor. Thankfully, she was able to coast the vehicle up the next hill and bring it to a stop. Inspection revealed brake fluid had leaked from a highly corroded brake line on the underside of the vehicle, below the driver's seat. Three other adjacent brake lines were also similarly corroded. Upon contacting the nearest gm dealer (tom gill Chevrolet, florence, ky), the service agent informed me "that's not uncommon in a 9-year old vehicle. " four almost completely rusted brake lines, in just 8 years? that ridiculous! I have a 16-year-old Toyota in the driveway that doesn't have this problem, and I shouldn't expect to have it with my much more expensive and far newer american made SUV. Tom gill service refused to give me an estimate of repair, stating I would have to have it towed the 17 miles to the dealership, with a "we're competitive--we'll give you a competitive price. " comforting. A few more calls to local shops revealed an estimate of between $850-1,100 for removal and replacement of all four lines. I ended-up spending 22 hours pulling-out the old lines and bending/flaring/installing entirely new front lines myself. Last week I learned I'm not alone--a wcpo news report revealed this is problematic with gm trucks/suvs, with gm deflecting blame to "salt brine. " after all of these years, american manufacturers are still taking shortcuts and canning ethics. . . Toyota will continue to win market share as long as this crap continues. I'm angry because it's putting our families at risk. No one got hurt this time, at least not in my family, but the potential is certainly there. I think gm should be held accountable, and I am holding onto the corroded brake lines as evidence in the event of a future recall. I'd also like those 22 hours back.

67 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/09/2010

Driving from tampa to orlando in my 2002 GMC Yukon with trailer in tow. Brakes went to floor while had to use emergency brake. I was tow home by aaa no fluid in reservoir filled it up. Saw fluid leaking under drivers door look with flashlight and saw cluster of lines corroded leaking from a round device and running down the rail toward back. About two ft. Long. I think they are the metal brake lines and their failure seems like a defect in material as I think they should be made of a harder or more lasting stainless steel or something as brakes are the most important device on a vehicle. I now feel for the safety of my family GMC said improper maintenance. I think GMC should take care of their faulty defective brake lines before someone is killed or maybe they have already.

68 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/17/2010

The main rear metal brake line on my 2002 GMC Yukon xl has sprung a leak due to rust. The vehicle has 63,000 miles. There was a severe loss of pedal pressure,a large increase in stopping distances and large puddles of brake fluid under the vehicle.

69 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/24/2010

Rear brake line failure. Line was rusted through and leaking brake fluid. Now (Feb 2012) another line is leaking brake fluid, this time in the front portion of the vehicle.

70 Brake Fluid Leak problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

I recently experienced a total brake failure after driving to the grocery store today. Yesterday, I realized that to stop, I had to press the brake pedal almost all the way to the floor. I knew something was wrong because my brakes had been working just fine. Today I noticed the same problem and reported it to my boyfriend, who conducted a visual inspection at the brake lines and underneath the driver side seat, brake fluid was leaking out rapidly and was puddling underneath the vehicle. Had I not stopped, I would have been in a serious accident. As a result, I can not drive my vehicle because the brakes are no longer working. I have a 2002 GMC Yukon denali xl.
