36 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

Driving when entire instrument panel went black. Off/on at random. Knocking sound started about the same time. Took car in to be checked out. Was told brake lines were completely rusted, and needed a new transmission. We paid for repair of the instrument panel. Talked to our dealership, holman in cincinnati OH, about breaks. No recall listed. They have never told us the brake lines were rusted. Offered us $150 brake kit to do ourselves (cant do) or they can do it for $1500-2000. Can't afford. It sits in our driveway, epic fail GMC. We bought a Honda.

37 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

While driving down an on ramp I began to apply the brakes to slow down, the brake pedal sunk to the floor and I had no braking capability and the brake warning appeared on the dash. I pumped the brake again and still had no braking capability, I was able to coast to a stop along the side of the road. Upon inspection of the brake lines, there was a major leak on the rear driver side, and a smaller leak from on the front passenger side.

Bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour, brakes went to the floor causing about a 10 mph impact into pickup in front of us. Glad we weren't up to speed when the brakes went. Upon further inspection, I have rusted brake lines, and the front crossover line leaking profusely due to corrosion of metal.

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

Again, I am writing. I emplore you to reinvestigate GMC for rusted brake lines. We replaced ours after they were so rusted, being a camping family, towing a trailer we could have all died. I understand that your office has investigated this and for whatever reason determined it was normal wear and tear but I think that your department is on overload and didn't want to handle another gm recall. Gm and consumers know that the company got away with not issuing a recall. Yes, I am angry at the $800 we had to pay to repair this but I am more angry that after gm was contacted for reimbursement I got no where and they were snarky and admitted as much that they weren't made to be responsible. Again, I ask that you reopen this investigation on behalf of consumers. Afterall, if it was normal wear and tear and an industry wide problem why is it only gm cars. Yes, I live in PA but I live in southern PA where we don't typically get alot of snowy or icy weather. My car is garage parked and only driven about 6000 miles per year. And the brake lines rusted? if something isn't done I intend to persue this further. Denise calaman 3945 sprenkle lane, york, PA 17408. Denisecalaman716@comcast. Net.

44 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

I was traveling on a local highway at the posted speed limit when I was caused to slow due to traffic. When I pressed the brake pedal the pedal went completely to the floor. Scared to death I almost engaged the emergency brake to ensure the vehicle would stop in time. Mind you I was traveling with three children and my spouse in the vehicle all of whose lives could have been affected not to mention my own. There was no indication of any brake service needed until this occurred at the point my foot was literally on the floor the service brake signal showed and dinging occurred. I arrived home without incident an hour later but still no pressure to the brake pedal and each time in order to stop I had to apply tons of pressure so the brake pedal would touch the floor. I checked the brake fluid and it was much lower than when we started our trip just a few hours prior. I immediately added fluid. The following day a large spot in the driveway was noticed at the left rear of the vehicle. My spouse checked the line and sure enough the line had rusted causing a leak. I do not reside in a high salt area nor did the previous owners. Northern va for prior owners and I reside in the "central" va area. This is not only a major issue but a huge safety concern. I had not realized that there were thousands of complaints for the same exact issue as what I now have. Regardless of warranty a vehicle less than 10yrs of age should not have corroded brake lines and fail to warn the owner and operator until it is in fact too late. Luckily I did not cause an accident but easily there could have been one. Yet again another gm vehicle has succeeded in being nothing but a safety issue, death trap and extreme disappointment.

45 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

Driving at 35 mph when the brakes suddenly stopped working with no indication preceding incident. Vehicle made contact with curb before coming to a complete stop. Discovered rear brake lines had completely corroded through and vehicle was losing fluid. Apparently this is a known problem that gm refuses to fix.

46 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

I was traveling appproximately 40 mph on a 4 lane street. As I approached a stop light, the light changed from green to red. I applied the brakes and they did not work. I drove right through the intersection and avoided a collision with 2 other vehicles. I was going downhill and picking up speed as I approached the next intersection. The light changed to red and by this time I was going approximately 50 mph. As 2 cars went across in front of me from opposite directions, I was somehow able to drive between them. I was eventually able to shift into neutral and drove approximately 1/2 mile until I was able to turn off of the main road and into a parking lot. I ended up having to drive around the parking lot until I was able to stop. My 15 year old son and I were extremely shaken and very fortunate to have avoided an accident and serious injury or death. We had the vehicle towed and we were told that all of the brakes lines were completely corroded and there was nothing left of them. After a $160 towing bill and a $1,180 repair bill, we have discovered that this is a recurring problem with the 2001 GMC Yukon. The dealership had 2 similar vehicles in their shop that day that had the same problem general motors needs to step up and admit that they made a huge mistake with these brake lines. This could have had a different outcome. My son and I could have been killed and/or another innocent person could have also been killed. My son says he will never ride in this vehicle again. Please do something about this situation before somebody dies, as a result of these cheap steel brake lines that corrode, especially in states that use salt on their roads during the winter months.

47 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

My daughter was driving her son, our grandson, home from school in my Yukon. As she was leaving the city limits just starting to get up to legal 55 mph and the brake system completely failed without warning. She fortunately saw a body shop and managed to maneuver the vehicle in there and down shifted to stop. She was fortunate to find this location. As you leave town there is a large hill we are thankful the brakes did not fail as she was going down it. I just am upset there was no warning, and we find out the whole brake line failed. It is hard to imagine what could have happened.

48 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

Total brake failure, no brakes. Steel brake line rusted through on frame rail near gas tank causing fluid container to empty completely. No advanced warning lamp or indication of failure. To replace the line, the fuel tank must be removed. Dealer charge $800. 00 and up.

49 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/08/2014

Brakes were weak, almost to floor so the car was towed home. While slowly backing the car into driveway the brakes failed completely. Stepped on emergency brake and intermediate cable broke. The e-brake cable failed because of rust and the brake lines to the ebcm where they go over frame all failed. The only part on this car that has rusted beyond anything normal are the brake lines. Unbelievably rusted! when the brakes (e-brake and both lines) all failed the car rolled out of controlled into a tree. The rear hatch glass shattered and I had a sore neck for 5-days. This is apparently a common problem to this car where salt is used. The brakes started to go weak (1-line must have failed) as my wife approached a toll booth, only luck prevented a catastrophic event from happening. I can't believe we were not notified or the car was not recalled! gm and the NHTSA shame on you. You knew of a safety problem and have done nothing. Gm stating that you will still have brakes if the line fails is a weak argument, you have to press much harder after the first line goes and the other line is ready to fail. Guess what happens, no brakes. Please have a gm executive drive one of these death traps and hit the brakes hard. The last thing that should rust are the brake lines. A little common sense goes a long way.

50 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Driving home when I push the brakes, the brakes didn't work, brake service warning came on upon checking all the brake lines are rusted and when it press the brakes it appears the pressure puncture a line.

51 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/26/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 GMC Yukon xl. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed to stop at the stop sign. The vehicle was taken to a independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle has been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Kw.

52 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/11/2014

Applied brakes to stop in a parking lot. Brake pedal held briefly then went to the floor. Minimal stopping ability at that point. Narrowly missed a suburban which backed out of a parking space in front of me. All brake lines are severely corroded. Requiring replacement of all lines.

53 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

My daughter was driving and when slowing down the brakes failed to work. The vehicle was not able to stop and collided with the vehicle in front. Luckily nobody was injured in this collision. After inspection, I noticed fluid on the ground at the rear left (driver's side rear), and looked under the vehicle to see where the fluid may be coming from. I saw that there was fluid coating a large area of the underbody, and also see the brake line attached to the frame as wet and rusted. I have pictures saved as a reference.

54 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I have been notified by 2 mechanics that the my brake lines are rusted/corroded and need to be replaced. I have researched the multiple complaints to GMC regarding this issue. Nhtsa has recomended a recall. Despite GMC corporate statements that the fix/replacement of brake lines will cost $500 (parts and labor) the GMC dealer in my area (danvers, MA) has quoted me over $1,200 and claims ignorance to the $500 claim. I believe this repair should be subject to recall and correction by GMC at no cost to me the owner.

55 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

I was driving on the highway at approx. 60 mph. . . When all of a sudden I heard a chiming noise and my "service brake system" alert came on! I then attempted to slow down and to my unfortunate discovery the brake pedal went straight to the floor. (scary) I let the vehicle coast a bit to slow down and tried pumping my brakes. . Now please keep in mind I was driving with my 2 children in the back seat. (scarier) I was able to slowly stop and pull over. I discovered the rear brake line was leaking. . Long story short my husband came and was able to drive it home. . But basically by the grace of god!!! I did some researching- calling a few different dealership and service locations and was told it would cost anywhere from $1,500 to $600. 00 to have the lines replaced, ect. I am furious that gm is trying to throw this on the consumer stating this was a "maintenance issue". . . I have read numerous stories of people (real people) having this same problem, but gm wants to say this is out fault!!?!?!? no way. . . Is there any recourse? thank god we did not have an accident. Husband had a friend of his who works on vehicles take a look and stated the lines were completely rusted and corroded!!*.

56 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Backing up to hook up a trailer, I depressed the brake and it went straight to the floor. Rear brake line ruptured after abs module and right about the fuel tank. I cannot replace just they one line because of corrosion and rust at the module. This is the family SUV and im lucky this happened in my yard and not on the highway. I was preparing to leave towing a 5500lb trailer. All these other lines are equally bad and I fear they are going to rupture too. I'm stuck with a 10 year old less than safe vehicle.

57 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I completely lost the brakes. After further inspection, discovered that the brake lines are completely rusted.

58 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

When I went to pull the Yukon into the driveway, the brake pedal went to the floor and I barely made it into the driveway and stopped. I had the vehicle towed to the gm dealership. I was called within a couple of hours and told that the brake lines had burst and had corrupted all of the rotors and the cost would be over $3k to repair/replace. Note: the rotors were replaced Sep 2013 and had less than 1k mileage. I called gm corporate to ask for relief on 10/6/14 and was told I would receive a call within 24 hours by a senior advisor. After not hearing back, I called on 10/10/14 and was told that the vehicle was out of warranty and they couldn't do anything. I citied all the cases on line about faulty brake lines and NHTSA ea11001 and the lady had no knowledge of any issues. She stated it would be the responsibility of the dealership and not gm. She stated she would call the dealership the same day and turn it over to them. There was nothing gm would do to assist since it is out of warranty. Please help. What is the status of the investigation?.

59 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

Hit brakes to stop pedal went to floor truck did stop but took alt longer than usual went to garage rusted brake lines one had broke this is second time this has happened two years ago had one line repaired same problem.

60 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

While approaching a stop sign I attempted to apply the brakes. The brakes went to the floor. I pumped them repeatedly which did not help much at all. I was not able to slow down, much less stop at the stop sign. With no choice, I rounded the turn at a high rate of speed. Thankfully the approaching vehicle was able to avoid me. Had I arrived at the intersection a few seconds later the result would have likely been different. As this occurred late at night with almost no traffic, I was able to get the vehicle home at a slow rate of speed with heavy brake pumping. Upon inspection in my driveway I was able to determine that a corroded brake line that leads to the rear brakes had burst. The placement of this part on top of the frame rail prevents inspection by owners.

61 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2000 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

After getting cut off and having to make a panic stop the brake lines in my truck burst causing the pedal to go to the ground and offer no braking power. I then tried the emergency brake which also didnt work due to the burst lines. I was finally able to steer into the shoulder of the road and put the transmission into a lower gear to slow down before putting it into park at 25 mph and skidding to a stop. After getting home and doing research and learned of your investigation. Something needs to be done as I almost died.

62 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/31/2014

The brake lines are severely rusted and this is the second failure with loss of brakes. The pedal goes to the floor.

63 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/30/2014

Today my wife took our very good condition well maintained garage kept 2002 GMC Yukon to dunkin donuts to get coffee. She was stopped in the drive thru line when she heard an air sound as her foot on the brake went to the floor, she was able to limp home, about a mile, by pumping the brakes and it was early so nobody was on the road. Indeed the brake line above the fuel tank was broken, I know because I dropped the fuel tank. We were lucky she didn't get in an accident and we weren't on vacation far away. I also flush out the brake lines with new fluid every time I change the brake pads. I know a lot of people with cars much older than ours and no brake line issues. We also had brake line issues with a 2003 GMC Yukon xl. Something needs to be done about this since this is not normal. And this happened when she was stopped in line, not after a hard emergency braking.

64 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

While driving our 2002yukon denali with 105,000 miles we had brake failure for the second time. We were towing our 21 foot gulf stream amerilite travel trailer and when the vehicle in front of us stepped on their brakes my husband attempted to begin slowing down. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor, we had no brakes. It is a miracle that we were not killed. This is the second brake line rupture within the past two years since we have owned this vehicle. The vehicle is extemely well maintained. We could have been killed. It has been very expensive to have our vehicle towed twice and repaired. I will be contacting GMC and asking for reimbursement. Our lives and the lives of many others have been put in danger here. Why is their not a recall with so many postings of the this problem? all of the brake lines should be replaced with stainless steel lines that will not rust. I am looking forward to your response prior to contacting an attorney. Thank you.

65 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2001 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

When exiting my driveway I went down the street to the stop sign , when I applied the brake the peddle went to the floor and the truck did not stop. It was good that I wasn't going faster. When I took my truck ( youkon ) to the repair shop I explained the issue to the repair man. I got home and he called me back and asked me to return to the shop to take a look at the trucks problems. When returning to the shop the truck was lifted up and he showed me the brake lines and the gas lines that were corroded and needed to be replaced as soon as possible . He also explained the time and labor involved. I was surprised of how much labor and time was involved to repair these issues . He said the cost including parts and labor will be about 2,500. To 3,000. Dollars, that is if he didn't come across any other problems.

66 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2002 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Traveling at approximately 35mph, applied brakes for upcoming stop sign and brakes failed. Inspection revealed that brake line broke as the result of corrosion to line at rear axle. Mechanic states all brake lines demonstrating unusual amount of rusing, all brake lines replaced. Mechanic states frame will be rusted through soon if not blasted and rustproofed; also states this is a common problem on nearly all gm trucks he sees.

67 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2004 GMC Yukon

Failure Date: 08/07/2014

The brake lines on my 2004 xl Yukon went out leaving me helpless with my 5 year old twin daughters. I was out doing errands yesterday when I was traveling 55 miles an hour on a major side highway when I went to brake and my foot went straight to the bottom of the floor. . . . I was not able to stop I was petrified because I was in full traffic. I pulled off the road into the grass to prevent an accident. This was the most frightening situation I have ever been in. When my husband arrived home I explained what happened , he looked under the truck to find all I said all of my brake lines were corroded and rusted and crumbly to the ground. He said he never saw anything like this. We have had several used cars in our lifetime and this is the first to ever experience brake line failure!!!!!! I called gm to discuss my dilemma and hopefully get help with the repair and confirm my husbands findings. We were advised they will do the tow to the dealership for the diagnostic, but we would have to pay for the diagnostic. We were also advised this was a maintenance issue. Well if we would have ever thought that we would not be in this predicament today. . . Well here I am still waiting to hear back from them about the tow. I also called the gm dealership and they said they are aware of the problem and they had several cars in there dealership right now for brake line repair, but could do nothing with absorbing the repair cost. I would have to go to general motors and take it up with them. . . . At this point I am thankful for being alive with my beautiful twin daughters which could have been crippled , dismembered or even dead I am seeking from general motors compensation for repairs of my brakelines on my gm xl Yukon 2004.
