Brake Light Problems of GMC Yukon - part 2

The rear passenger & driver side brake lights just randomly stopped working. Not a bulb issue as it is the led panel of lights. The back-up bulb still works, but the led brake lights don�t. Led lights should last years. Dealership says it happens a lot to these vehicles, and I have to buy a whole new unit for each side. This is a huge safety issue - break lights failing due to poor wiring. Again not a replaceable bulb issue, it is due to a wiring issue within the led lighting unit itself.

Led brake light circuit broken - brake light doesn't illuminate.

Passenger side rear brake light working intermittently. Taken to dealer twice for issue and was working when dealer checked it. 90,000 miles on vehicle so well out of warranty. Drove home from dealer. . . Stopped working on way home. Started working next day. Part is $600-800 for something that is clearly a manufacturer defect. I don't consider a circuit board that cracks in the same place on many same model vehicles (as per internet forums) to be "normal wear and tear". Gm won't do anything about it. This is clearly a safety issue. Brake light is a series of leds on a thinly printed circuit board.

The right rear brake light led strip no longer works. I have noticed that this is an on-going issue with other consumers. The dealer wants $650-$750 to replace. Most of the time, it is a wiring issue that needs to be repaired. Unfortunately, the plastics are glued together preventing access to make the repair.

Brake light taillights intermittent turns on and off.

The brake light is out. All other lights are working, but the brake light. It just stopped working. I have been told this is a normal thing for the GMC. I can not just change a bulb, they said I had to replace the entire light kit for a $850.

Brake lights stopped working almost was plowed into by 18 wheeler on I-75. Driver waved us over and informed us that he did not see us till right on top of us. Problem appears to be systemic enough that the GMC service department told us that it was common enough that they kept the brake lights in stock. Additionally there are numerous threads about this issue on the internet and even utube videos on where to remove material to access the offending circuit board to repair the known faulty circuit. The failure of these brake lights could have cost my family and me our lives. The dealership wanted to charge 1600$ to replace the brake lights. I reiterate the brake light failure is common enough that there are numerous threads on the internet to discuss the known weakness of the circuit board.

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon. The contact recieved a letter from the manufacturer with the brake light to have it diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer covert Buick GMC 11750 research blvd ste d, austin, TX 78759 (512) 371-6075. And they said there was nothing wrong with the rear brake lights. They disregarded the letter and said they checked the brake light and said again everything was working fine. The manfacturer had not been contacted yet. The issue has recurred several more times since the vehicle was releashed to a dealer. The contact got a same second opinion from an idependnet mechanic. The vehicle currently was still unrepaired . The dealer would not sell the contact the part to repair it herself. The failure mileage was 77,655. Tf.

The passenger side brake light will not illuminate. I'm not exactly sure when it began, when I first found out it would sometimes work and sometimes not, now it has be staying completely off.

Rear brake light does not work. Gm dealership states that this led brake light was designed to be lifetime. Received letter from gm stating that they are only covering the free replacement thru 72,000 mile. My vehicle has more than 72,000 miles. Cost to repair $800.

For the past 3 years I have taken my truck into the dealership with complaints about intermittent brake light function. Specifically the lr light was not working. Once I was told I had to replace the entire assembly $800 - I came in to have the repair done, then I was told there was no issue. I returned again when the police gave me a warning about the same light. Was told no issue. Several times I have been alerted by other drivers that the light was out - sometimes it works if I smacked the exterior of the assembly but not consistently. Now - all of the brake lights are out lr/rr and the bar. I cannot drive it safely and I cannot believe that the only option is to pay several thousand dollars to replace it. Many have the same complaints. This should be a recall! we already paid several thousand dollars to buy this truck - it should not have these issues so early on. I have seen many other Yukon's on the road with the same issue. My car is 2015 - the problem started almost immediately for us after purchasing. This is not acceptable.

Brake light on vehicle works intermittently and is no longer safe. This is a problem GMC is well aware of and no solution in sight. Cheap metal board brakes inside the lens and leaves you with no brake light. I do not want my family to be rear ended because of this professional grade? brake light failure, at any time on road. This is a 2016 GMC Yukon with 22710 miles as I write. Brake light has failed while moving on the city streets. This failure is currently on the passenger side brake light. Trying to make appointment for repair of this professional grade brake light? before the other one brakes and put my family at risk of a accident.

Brake light has gone out twice in 3 years.

Break light intermittently illuminates on driver's side. Received letter from GMC dated December 2019, "intended to make you aware that some 2015 model year GMC Yukon xl vehicles may have a condition where the brake lights intermittently do not illuminate". The would repair it with no cost only if this would have occurred within 6 year of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 72,000 miles. Of course, we are way above that. Dealer quoted $800 cost repair.

Rear brake lights work intermittently. When taken to the dealer they say they can't find the problem. It is a safety issue and a common issue among these cars. It is horrible that gm will not fix this problem for free.

Led brake lights don't work car shakes and transmission shudders while driving 35-45mph.

We purchased a 2015 GMC Yukon xl denali in July 2019 from jackie cooper in edmond, ok. In December 2019, we noticed that the brake lights started intermittently going out. Some days they work fine, and then the next day they don't work at all. We've even had people stop us and tell us that the brake lights were "flickering". This is obviously a safety concern, and with the extraordinary cost to replace one of these lights, it's a budgetary concern, as well. Since we started noticing it, we also have heard of other owners of this same model and year that have had the same issue. This certainly seems like a defected product which needs a better solution. Please tell me there is another solution besides spending $1,000-$1,500 to replace something that used to be a simple bulb I could find at a auto parts store.

I purchased my 2016 Yukon xl denali used with 40k miles. I have had the vehicle less then a week and have had several people tell me that I have a brake light out on the passenger side, but every time I stop and have it looked at its working just fine. The cost to replace it is approximately $700 for each assembly. After some research I have found that there are a lot of people having this issue and that GMC is aware of this issue but won't do anything about it. I'm afraid that I might be rear ended because the lights decide not to work at that moment.

Driver side rear brake light working intermittently, approx. 10% of the time. Called dealership and said it is known issue with most denali brake lights. Was quoted to replace entire assembly $900. Each side for this known safety issue. This is a serious safety issue and known by GMC with no recalls available.

The vehicle was taken to patriot Buick GMC Hyundai 2001 se washington blvd, bartlesville, ok 74006 (918) 347-4045 where informed the vehicle failed to meet the mileage qualification for satisfaction program. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 88,000. Ap.

No brake light in both rear lighting assemblies. Started with the passenger side and now the drivers side. GMC issued a letter in December 2019 stating they'd pay for repairs if vehicle is less than 6 years or 75,000 miles which ever comes first. We'll I'm over on both. Gmpp extended warranty doesn't cover this repair. Spend $75k for this truck and now this.

Brake lights work sporadically, until the passenger rear finally stopped working all together. Contacted the dealership and was told this was a very common problem, that they replace several a week, and my warranty would not cover it. Got a estimate of over $1600 to repair it. Was pulled over on several occasions each time was told it was either the left or right not working. Then miraculously both would be working. If this is such a common problem like the dealership stated, then why hasn't gm recalled or discontinued using them? this is a serious safety issue and not as simple as replacing a bulb. Way to costly to just bring in for repairs!.

Brake lights are shorting out causing them to work intermittently. Circuit is broken inside the sealed portion of the light preventing repair.

Rear passenger led brake light failure. Dealer said this is a known failure item so much so that parts are on backorder nation wide.

Tail lamps, tail lamps tail lamps! non serviceable led illumination bulb circuit is faulty leading to intermittent operation. Having part time brake light is against the law and more important to me, leaves my family in an unsafe situation. Web search leads to many motorist having the same problem as I. As a paying taxpayer we should not be sold faulty goods that may have dire consequences.

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Yukon xl. While the vehicle was parked, the contact's wife noticed a leak entering the cabin from the overhead antenna. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Also, while pulling into the driveway and depressing the brake pedal, the contact's neighbor informed him that all the rear brake lights (rear driver and passenger side brake lights and tailgate brake light) were not functioning. The vehicle was taken to north county Buick GMC (located at 1515 auto park way n, escondido, CA 92029, (866) 852-7135) where it was diagnosed that the overhead antenna and all three brake lights needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the rear driver's side brake light and antenna were repaired, but the other brake lights were still not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failures. The failure mileage was 61,000.

The tailight/brake light keep going bad. It works half the time. I will check it and it's working then I hit a bump and people tell me it's not working. I hit another bump I look and it working. After replacing it once already has the exact same problem and they want another $1000 to fix it but the dealer told me GMC now has a better replacement for it. If they have a better built option then GMC should be made to change lights on all of them before some one gets killed.

Was pulled over by a police officer and told that my passenger side brake light is not working. Blinker and reverse light work, but not the brake light. There have been no impacts and there is not any crack or moisture inside the light housing.

Drivers side led brake light does not function. Vehicle has 52,000 miles. Known defect yet GMC does not offer repair. Requires $800 light assembly replacement.

Back passenger side brake lighting went out. Originally it would work sometimes and not work others. Not it never works. . . Dealer said earlier years were covered by recall but not 2017. Very expensive to replace and ive had the car 2 years. Crazy.

The GMC Yukon models in all trims, have faulty led strips that cause the brake lights to fail on the left, and right brake light assembly. The frustrating part is it works intermittently, and when it's off a slight tap will momentarily bring it back on for the duration of the jolt. This leads me to believe that it's faulty connection inside the seals brake light assembly. There are thousands of complaints online on owner forums of GMC Yukon's . This is known as the new year models 18-19 are not having the same issue.

The contact took the vehicle to marvin k brown auto center (located at 1441 camino del rio s, san diego, CA, 619-272-6867) where it was diagnosed that the brake lights needed to be replaced. However, due to the commonality of the failure, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

Right tail/brake light has intermediate problem. Advised dealership, they hit the light with hand and it flashed. GMC is aware that this is a problem. No detection from any of the sensors advising there is a problem with the tail/brake light. This is obviously an issue with GMC Yukons wherein there is a broken wire in the light itself and it is a full unit that cost approximately $650. 00. Prince dealership did not even advise that there is a recall on my vehicle at the time of checking the tail/brake light was warranted.
