The contact owns a 2002 GMC Yukon xl. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) because her vehicle is experiencing the same issues. The abs indicator illuminates and makes a loud noise when driving and when the vehicle is stopped. The abs activation also makes stopping the vehicle very difficult. The dealer advised the contact to defuse the fuse where the abs indicator is located in order to stop the noise while the engine is running. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the repair would cost $1,100. The contact called the manufacturer and they instructed the dealer to repair the vehicle at 50% of the cost; however, the dealer refused. The failure mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 1999 GMC Yukon. While driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions, the contact heard a loud noise when the brake pedal was depressed. The abs engaged unintentionally before the vehicle stopped 5-10 feet later. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing and they stated that the failure was related to the abs sensor. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock;control unit/module), although the failures were identical. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and the vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 95,000. Updated 03/17/09.
