On this vehicle, it is common knowledge that the v6 models have an issue related to the transmission (referred to as the automatic transaxle by Honda) where the system was not reworked to account for the extra torque put out by the more powerful v6 engine causing it to strip and shred portions of the gearing causing gear slippage, rough idling, and other similar issues usually occuring sometimes around or after the 80k mile mark. Upon finding out about this, I did some research and Honda's "solution" offered was that transmissions could be swapped for rebuilt ones salvaged off of other vehicles brought in for similar issues but there have also been reports of these rebuilt transmissions beginning to fail after they reach an additional 80k miles proving the issue was not truly resolved. On top of this, a formal recall was never made, owners were not made aware of this, and the offer was only made available to those who brought their vehicles in for this issues within a certain number of years and certain of mileage after their purchase which is very unsafe, anti-consumer, and shows a lack of care and responsibility on their part especially since this issue affects not only v6 Accord models, but also affects ridgeline, odyssey, and cr-v models that use the same engine and transmission combo. It should also be noted that, due to the lack of notice or action regarding this issue on the manufacturer's part, it has never been resolved on my model as the prior owners never knew of this issue when they bought the car new but the Honda owned dealership was happy enough to quote me a $1406 repair the last time I inquired about this issue.
I had this car for a few weeks with 120k miles on it and the transmission died on me while driving and almost got hit with a big rig. Lucky the big rig has enough distance to slam that break. This car needs attention and recall with the transmission. Been reading a lot of faulty transmission for this model and no recall. Not sure if a crash or fatality will occur first before they will initiate a recall. Honda is a reliable company but has this many complaints and no recall has been initiated.
Car keeps going out of line when steering wheel gets lose after bumbs. Fixed rack n pinon and steering wheel pump 2x already!.
My air bags are takita and needs replaced I can leave my car in any gear but park and it drifts away I have replaced my transmission 2x with only150k miles.
I have been familiar with this car and many other similar Honda's of this year and every single one including the lower mile ones have needed a transmission rebuild or replacement. The j30 transmission is inept to do its job and the strain on it from the v6 vtec renders it useless quickly. Much like the Honda odyssey if similar years this transmission is no good and needs a recall. This car was moving on the highway on its way back from the city when it went out, straight line.
The interlock operation of the ignition switch does not function properly, making it possible to turn the ignition key to the "off" position and remove the key without shifting the transmission to park.
Transmission problem I bought this car about July 13 2016 tranny is slipping and sometime it will idol very hi than it jumps gears my daughter drive this car she is now scared to drive spoke to Honda nothing they can do even thought thay have lots of complains from that that year spoke to the dealer he wont do anything either stated he will give me 1200 back went I bought it for 3200 than stated he will fix car bur I have to pay for it.
My wife was driving one day doing our typical day to day stuff then the transmission @159000 miles starts not shifting or downshifting or when it shift its very jerky and sometimes we have to rev over 5000 rpms to get it to shift and d4 light starts flashing on the city streets we got it home I check fluids they were good added lil extra tranny fluid to be safe because it was below the first dot on dipstick then we drove fine for a day then today we went to an appt we had got there ok then on way back to the house the car starts not upshifting or down shifting no matter how you accelerate coming from dead stop at traffic light it revs up to 5000 rpms then jerks into gear and it went boom 1 boom 2 boom 3 and then the car starts rolling thru the traffic light and only at not only 5 mph then hits 4th gear then it goes safe road speed I have reviewed several online websites like this one. . Just purchased a 2000 Accord on sat 8-22-15. Body looks great, runs shifts great, but when attempting oil change I realized passenger side front subframe is completely gone. Yes,gone. It's missing @4 inches of metal which has obviously rusted away, with surrounding metal rusted. Driver side looks perfect. Same part, two different places, acting completely different.
After having the vehicle in "reverse" to get into a stall parking space on the street, it was shifted into "drive". While being in "drive" and tapping on the gas pedal, the vehicle went in "reverse" uncontrollably. The brakes did not respond. In an attempt to avoid reversing into a wall, the vehicle turned and crashed into a parked vehicle. The impact potentially injured a women that was standing behind the impacted vehicle talking with someone.

Experiencing transmission problem which Honda is refusing to repair/replace. Honda is aware of this problem and has extended the warranty to 7 year 7 months or 109k miles but my car happens to fail just outside of the warranty. The on time scheduled maintenance and proper treatment is probably to blame. Consider this as my formal complaint against Honda for not standing behind their product and inadequate customer service.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and did not accelerate over 20 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who inspected the failure and stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The transmission was replaced at least four prior times by the dealer. Transmission & internal parts failure during very busy morning drive in atlanta>>>almost caused a multiply car collusion>>>>part of the junk Honda has put in these cars & denied any liability>>>>also have an )@ odyssey with a junk transmission>>>I will never buy another Honda>>>anyone need some Honda garbage cheap?.
Ignition key can be removed when the shifter is in non-park position and couple of times when this happened, the vehicle rolled away. This failure symptom was captured in NHTSA 05v-025, but, when asked, Honda motor company responded that the NHTSA mandate didn't include this VIN number. This suggests there may a reason to expand the VIN numbers affected by this mandate.
Warning light and the vehicles can't drive more than 20 miles an hour. This happens a few times within the last 6 months. Park the car for a few days and the problem goes away for a few weeks. This has not happen on the freeway, if it has, we would have an accident for sure. It happens again 2 days ago while driving and d4 lights came on, the car can't go more than 20 miles/hr on residential street.
Transmission became unreliable, never shifts properly, and sometimes doesn't shift at all. I have to pull over and wait a while until traffic is clear, then I try again.
After driving my 2000 Honda v6 coupe for 30 minutes or more, it would have problems starting if shut off for about 20 minutes. It would start and then stall. The only way to get it started is to give it gas and shift into gear quickly which is dangerous. Also there was a TSB 00-024 for this and I got it done for close to $710. This really isn't fair as I didn't do anything wrong to have this issue. It is clearly a case of a manufacturing defect.
2000 Honda Accord. Consumer writes in regards to transmission problems. The consumer stated on August 5, 2010, he spent $2488. 77 to have the transmission replaced. He recently began experiencing transmission problems again. It was then, he decided to do some research, and discovered there was a known issue with the automatic transmission starting with model years 2000-2003. The consumer was denied reimbursement, due to the fact the warranty had expired. Honda stated they did not why the consumer was never informed of the extended warranty.
2000 Honda Accord r gear shift handle (knob) became detached from pole when trying to move the gear from park.
I have a 2000 Honda Accord with an automatic transmission and v6 engine. On 12/13/2008, the transmission was shifting hard and check engine light came on. The transmission has to be rebuilt at the tune of $3200. Here has been yearly service done to prevent any other issues. On 12/28/11, the tranmission was shifting hard, engine light came on and a p740 code was found. Clearly this is a faulty transmission design and a recall should be in order. There are many people that had the same issues from years 1999 to 2001. This issue is a hazard.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the key could be removed from the ignition without the vehicle being placed into park. The shifter would also display that the vehicle was in park and drive at the same time. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 05v025000 (electrical system:ignition:switch), although the failures were identical. The failure and current mileages were less than 170,000.
Around this time period my transmission was replaced with a new transmission since it was giving me problem . The car was with dealer for 5 business days. It worked for a while and then it had some problems when in transmission shifted hard and some codes were programmed in sept'02. In Dec'02 my car had a total break down and it needed to be towed to the dealer for a repair. I do not know if this problem can be fixed.
Speedometer is not accurate. It appears to be from 7 to 10 mph off from surrounding traffic. Dealer claims it is within the 10% allowable difference. This is unacceptable. They tell us when it reads 65 we are actualling going 60. They have not provided any documentation to support the inaccuracy.
As reported by numerous other owners, the speedometer reads about 8% faster than actual speed. Dealer refuses to do anything, says Honda requires at least 10% error before it will do anything.
Speedometer not accurate when showing 80 mph actually 70 mph.
The srs light stays on. Not sure if airbags will work in a collision. Dealer will try to fix with new srs control modules. Speedometer head unit is up to 13% off (depending on speed) and is somewhat unresponsive to minor speed changes. Disconcerting while driving in traffic since I can't verify my actual speed due to the slow to respond and inaccurate speedometer unit readout. This leads to overaccelerating or overdeccelerating while driving in traffic in an attempt to hold local speed zone laws. Verified by a pgm test at local dealer. No fix for the speedometer head unit for now. . . Told by Honda customer relations to wait for a possible fix in November 2000. The driver's power seat makes a clunking noise while driving, not sure why. Finally, while driving in traffic many times when I press the accelerator pedal the car does not respond very quickly or even falls flat for a second before it goes, pretty disconcerting at times, especially at intersections.
Service department tested the accuracy of the speedometer unit and found it to be off by 8-10%.
