Purchased a 2000 Honda Accord with about 60,000miles on it. After about 15,000 miles the transmission begins shifting very hard from 1st-2nd. At approx. 130,000 miles the car begins to shake and not shift out of first, with my rpm soaring to over 3500. The mechanic tells me the lower bands are "burnt up" to the tune of 1200$. That is just to have the bands replaced, and with all the problems I am hearing with transmissions going out a 2nd and 3rd time on these year model Hondas it is hard to invest 1200 dollars into something that might go out again.
Within five days of purchasing this vehicle, owner noticed vehicle shaking and shuddering at 25 mph and 40 mph under light throttle. This condition was and is repeatable. Problem is always present at aforementioned speeds. Dealer was notified, and owner was informed that dealer would contact manufacturer regarding this problem. Owner was contacted 01/04/00 by dealer, and told that manufacturer will be shipping a complete transmission assembly to replace factory installed transmission. Dealer stated that upon their receipt of transmission, they will contact owner to schedule 2-3 day r&r of defective transmission. Owner is concerned about potential future powertrain failures due to the complexity and scope of this proceedures which will take place at dealership. Owner would expect extended powertrain warranty for this vehicle.
Honda replaced the converter and transmission, but the car still vibrates sometimes on the level but most of the time when going up hill. I am almost ready to trade the car in for a different make. The local mechanics cant seem to be able to help.
