We bought the Honda Accord from the dealership brand new and took delivery 11/4/2013. On Saturday 11/16/2019, with just over 40,000 miles on the car we noticed that the power steering was not functioning. It was not only hard to steer but also would continue progressing in the direction turning. We took the car back to the dealership on Monday 11/18/2019 where they stated that the rack, power steering needed replace for a total cost of $2,797. 49. Contacted Honda customer service and they refused to help. Contacted the extended warranty company since the extended warranty expired 12 days earlier. They wouldn't help. This was a very dangerous failure on a vehicle that was well taken care of and has very low millage. Did some research and found and article in edmunds "feds probe 2013 Honda Accord for power steering failure", estimate 374,000 complains about the 2013 Honda Accords. Isn't that enough to force Honda to do a recall?.
My 16 year old son was driving my 2013 Honda Accord when the power steering failed. He was in motion on a county highway, traveling approximately 45 mph. He just came off an access road and had veered to the right to merge into on-coming traffic. The vehicle has less than 38k miles. The wheel jerked to the right and took great effort to center the vehicle and continue to a stop. He turned off the car and called me. Stated it was still driveable and drove home, but continued to have to accommodate for steering wheel jerking to the right and circulating out of control when let go. I drove the car upon his return and experienced same issue. Taking vehicle to Honda dealership for diagnostic check.
The contact owned a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle veered to the left inadvertently. The contact initially thought that the issue was because of the wind. The steering wheel then ceased. The vehicle was towed to hosmer Honda (3825 4th st sw, mason city, IA 50401) and diagnosed with power steering failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. The VIN was unavailable.
2013 Honda Accord. Consumer writes in regard to power steering failure while driving. The consumer stated the dealer found the steering gear box to be the cause of the failure and needed to be replaced. The consumer was also concerned about the warranty for the steering assembly.
Power steering failed while driving 65 mph on highway, luckily one exit from a dealer. Eps warning light came on. Took car to dealer and fixed it for 2900. 00. Warranty has since been extended from 5 to 13 years for this issue on my specific vehicle.
Tl the contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. While driving, the power steering failed. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted. Afterwards, the vehicle operated normally, but failed again later that day. The dealer (roush Honda, 100 w schrock rd, westerville, OH 43081) was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,826.
Power steering failure. Very hard to steer. Very dangerous. Eps light came on. Was able to make it home.
My 2013 Honda Accord touring model electric power steering failed. The car only has 49,000 miles. The dealer states it is no longer a extended warranty issue and will not cover issue. The problem was noticed while driving the vehicle and then taken to the dealer for evaluation. The problem is loss of power steering and/or a sudden increase in steering effort and dealer identified that the electric power steering box needs replacement for a total of $2100. 00. For a "new" car this is ridiculous and should be Honda's fix not the costumer.
I made a right hand turn and proceeded down the street. The power steering did not work as I started down the street. I managed to pull over to side of street. The indicator light came on. Waited 5 minutes then continued driving, power steering did not work again and indicator light came on. As I proceeded to pull over again the power steering began to work. Luckily I was traveling at a slow speed when the powering steering failed.
Power steering failure shows up on the dashboard, and power steering fails. After turning off/ on car the problem is resolved, but this keeps happening. Took to the dealership, but they could not find anything wrong. They suspected it could be due to the battery, which I had replaced. Once I left the dealership, the power steering failed again. I have been reading about problem regarding the power steering in 2013 Honda Accords all over the internet.
Power steering failed while driving! this is the 2nd time this has happened within 6 mos. First time I was able to restart the steering by turning off the ignition and restarting. This time 4/20/17 can't get the epr to return!!! the car was in motion both times on local streets.
The contact owned a 2013 Honda Accord. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly pulled to the right without the contact turning the steering wheel. The vehicle crashed into the wall on the side of the road. The air bags deployed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. A police report was filed. The contact received injuries to the leg, arm, and hand. The passenger received injuries to their collar bone and knee. Medical attention was required. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact received a notice from the manufacturer indicating that the vehicle needed to be examined for a possible power steering failure due to an extensive amount of complaints that started an investigation regarding the same failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. While parking the vehicle, the power steering suddenly failed and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. After the vehicle was restarted, the power steering later returned to normal. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 37,000.
There was total power steering failure while doing parallel parking twice in an hour today (5/30/2016). It too much effort to turn even a little. We were lucky we were not on highway or street. Restarting the car seemed to resolve first failure. Second failure corrected itself upon driving couple of feet. Now, I am afraid to drive the car till this problem is fixed as it may result in crash.
In attempting parallel parking practice with son, experienced total power steering failure (multiple instances) when wheel was fully turned. Vehicle was either stopped to turn wheel into parking spot, or moving very slow (under 2 mph).
While driving the vehicle on city streets, the power steering fails, making it very difficult to steer the vehicle and requires a great amount of effort to control the steering. A power steering message appears on the dashboard. After stopping the vehicle and shutting it down, then restarting it, seems to tentatively correct it. This has happened three times in three days. I am very concerned with our safety in driving this car!.
The power steering failed at 62k miles with no earlier indications/warnings there was an issue. I could not move the steering wheel and had to have it towed at my expense to a Honda dealer. Fortunately, this occurred in my driveway without my children in the vehicle. The repair took one week (had to order parts, holiday, staffing shortage) and was covered under an extended warranty through Honda due to a known issue at a cost of approximately $1,500. The purpose of this complaint is for awareness. 2013 Honda Accord owners should be aware of this potentially dangerous issue.
My power steering failed twice in one day. While trying to parallel park the engine was running and the power steering shut off and was very difficult to turn. This continued for about 10 minutes then it corrected itself. The same thing happened about 30 minutes later. Each time it was from a stationary position on a city street trying to parallel park. I am lucky that it didn't happen on the highway.
Power steering failure on September 13 2015 while driving the car. Drove car with no power steering home system reset the next day. Failure again on September 28. Dropped off at Honda dealer lou sobh in cumming GA.
During a trip to virginia from fla. I stopped at rock hill carolins for gas. Upon leaving the station and before getting back on 95 north my power steering failed. I was able to pull over and restart the car resetting the steering. Approximately 40 miles later on 95 the steering failed a second time. I again made the next exit and was able to reset everything. I turned around and went home with no subsequent failures. The power steering electronic module was replaced by Honda approximately a year ago or less and this is a repeat of the symptoms at that time. This is a principal safety issue.
Power steering suddenly failed in the vehicle, making it impossible to steer.
While driving on I-95, I experienced a sudden loss of power steering. A caution light appeared on the instrument panel. I was within a few miles of a Honda dealership, so I drove there. After the car sat for a few minutes, the indicator light was no longer on; and, the power steering appeared to be normal. I was told the problem was transitory and I resumed traveling on I-95. Less than 20 miles later, the same problem happened again. I pulled to the side of the road, and once again shut the vehicle off for a few minutes. I then drove approximately 250 miles without incident. Later that same day, while driving on another highway at 60 mph, the power steering suddenly failed. At the same time, the caution indicator light appeared on the instrument panel. I made an appointment for two days later at another Honda dealership. On the day of the appointment, while driving in city traffic at 25 mph, the power steering failed three times before I arrived at the dealer. That day, the service department was unable to find the source of the problem. They cleared the fault indicator from the computer's memory; and, told me to return if the problem occurred again. Several days later, while traveling on an expressway at 55 mph, the power steering failed one more time, along with the indicator light again appearing on the instrument panel at the same time. The following day, I brought the vehicle back to the dealership. They informed me, that after talking with Honda advisors via telephone, Honda was aware of the problem; and, instructed them on a fix. After performing that fix, they said Honda informed them, that if the power steering didn't fail within 500 miles, it wouldn't recur in the lifetime of the car. After driving approximately 400 miles since the fix, the power steering again failed. The car is going back to Honda, again.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the power steering failed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who recommended the vehicle be taken to a dealer for NHTSA action number: pe14033 (steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.
I started my engine and was backing up my car, when I noticed I couldn't turn the steering wheel. I stopped the engine and restarted the car as indicated in the manual. The steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. The car was towed to the Honda dealership and they gave me a bill of $1800 to work on the power steering to torque sensor? and the pins and rack? I'm terrified that this will occur again, but when I am driving resulting in an accident. I am terrified that the replacement parts will fail. This is a 2013 Honda Accord coupe, I don't think the power steering should be failing in 2015. What will prevent the replacement parts from being just as faulty? I understand there is an investigation on this model, but Honda dealership seems to be sitting down until people are injured.
On July 2, 2015 while driving 40 mph, power steering failed and indicator light came on. Had car towed to dealer next day, software update done, and I was told the problem should not reoccur. On oct 6, 2015, while turning into a parking lot, it failed again. Had car towed to dealer and told they will now replace gearbox. I asked what was causing this and how this fix will work and was told they don't know! they're following instructions from the manufacturer. This is very unsafe, and appears Honda does not truly know how to fix this.
Electronic power steering system has failed for the 5th time in the last month. Eps light illuminates on dashboard, total loss of steering control. Vehicle is not safe to drive. Was originally cleared by turning the car on and off, but now fails immediately upon starting vehicle. Dealership quoted $1,700 repair - this should be a recall.
Power steering failed.
While driving down farris rd at ~40 mph the eps light came on and the power steering failed. This happened on the way back from my pregnant wife's doctor appointment. We pulled over to the nearest empty parking lot and read the manual. We hadn't been doing any of the things the manual said would cause this. Over the next 10 miles this happened 3 more times. Once while sitting still in a drive through line. We called our Honda dealership and the offered to let us schedule an appointment and receive a shuttleride home. My wife got us slightly better service with a facebook post and they offered to look at our car that day and comped us a rental car under warranty. Several hours later we received a call that after speaking with their tech support they will need to replace the rack.
The vehicle steering simply 'shut-down', or locked-up out of nowhere. It appears the power steering system simply failed. I was only able to regain control of the steering by bringing the vehicle to a full stop in order to turn it off and then restart it. . . As though I were rebooting a crashed computer! the issue repeated itself three times the next day, once while driving at full speed on a public street. We resolved to stop driving it, but by reflex I took it out the third consecutive day only to have the issue recur twice, thankfully none of these failures occurred while we were executing a turn, otherwise we may have crashed into something or someone, as some of the other complaints describe. I have now put the vehicle into storage until Honda addresses the issue definitively, as others describe dealership diagnoses across the board, with virtually all admitting the issue was unresolved, even after repair or replacement of the diagnosed component(s). Whether I simply have a lemon, or this is a recall issue in the making, I do not yet know, but what I do know is that this appears to be a very serious safety issue rendering the vehicle too dangerous to drive.
I was driving and was about to turn on to my street and my power steering failed. It became really hard to turn. If there was a car parked I would have hit that car. I parked shut off the car and restarted the car and it seem fine till I turned the steering and as soon as I did it did the same exact things. Honda replaced the part. But its really dangerous and I worry if or when it will go out again.
The driver was was turning left into our neighborhood. The power steering failed and he could not turn. The vehicle went over the curve and crashed into a fire hydrant. It pushed the car up in the air and back down hard. None of the airbags deployed.
