The steering on this vehicle went bad and now pulls/pushes in each direction. . Read more...
Eps system light coming, steering pulling off to one side ocassionally.
I had my vehicle serviced and repaired at barber Honda here in bakersfield, California, last year. They replaced the electrical power steering, but the problem came back. The light on the dashboard with a wheel-shaped icon turned on, and the wheel locked. It was a scary situation because we were driving on the freeway. I want to know what steps to take.
While driving the car the power steering light comes on and power steering goes out then. No warning just goes off and power to steering wheel is not working. This has happened going 55 mph. Very dangerous. I feel this should be investigated. I did read this was a problem with this car. Why no recall??!! also was checked by mechanic. This has happened more than once before today.
After a driveshaft recall repair was performed on July 10, 2025, at germain Honda of dublin, my 2013 Honda Accord ex-l immediately began showing multiple safety system warning lights, including abs, vsa, traction control, and check engine. These lights had never appeared prior to the repair. Diagnostic codes included: •vsa solenoid valve malfunction •modulator control unit power source circuit (ig) low voltage these point directly to the abs/vsa modulator, which is located near where the driveshaft repair was done. Despite the timing, Honda has refused to cover the repair, quoting me nearly $3,000. The dealer also cleared the codes before I arrived and then claimed they were “historic” with no documentation. I’ve confirmed my battery and alternator are in good condition, ruling out the common causes of voltage errors. I believe something was disturbed or left improperly connected during the recall service, resulting in a dangerous condition involving the vehicle’s braking and stability systems. This is a potential safety risk that arose after a manufacturer-issued recall repair, and I am requesting a formal investigation into similar cases if reported.
The abs pump/motor, abs modulator needs to be replaced. This is a pretty common issue with the Honda Accord from 2008-2017. Fixing this problem is expensive at the dealer. I believe Honda motors should have a recall about this situation because how pricy this is. Looking online for information and videos on youtube many people have been quoted 2,800 dollars and up to replace it. I just replace the abs sensor driver side and abs, brake, steering wheel came out. These are coming on and off. Please I would like to get some help with this situation.
Steering wheel would not turn left or right and became very jumpy and stiff to steer!.
My 2013 Honda Accord experienced very dangerous steering problems. Without warning the steering wheel became very loose and I had to tightly hold the wheel with both hands to keep from crashing. The steering wheel was very tight and difficult to turn when turning right. The Honda dealer duplicated and confirmed my experience. They did a complete diagnostic check. The mechanics said there were no dtcs and the problem persisted after updates to the software. They suggested a recc gearbox and possible internal computer chip. My mileage reads 106,000 miles.
Unknown.
When driving my vehicle, the steering wheel gets sticky and is hard to turn and if I move the wheel slightly to the right the wheel automatically turns all the way right. I have almost gotten into an accident a couple times due to this issue. The steering wheel does not turn back to center. I see that this is a common issue for my vehicle make and model. This is a severe issue that can cause bodily harm if not replaced quickly.
My 2013 Honda Accord lost all power steering.
While driving on nichols road in selden, NY on Monday, may 19th 2025 @ the speed of approximately 45-50 mph my 2013 Honda Accord sport (sedan) abruptly, unexpectedly and violently lurched to the left on it's own while I was holding the wheel with my fingers. Thank god I was already in the left lane because my vehicle went off the left shoulder and began to go onto the grass in the median but I was able to recover before completely going of the road. Had I been in the right lane I would have ran into a vehicle in the left lane because traffic was heavy at the time. Up until this point, my car drove straight and true without the need for alignment, air pressure adjustments, brakes or balancing. I know this because I have a little over 95,000 miles on the car and I keep my Honda pristine. However, to rule out the obvious possibilities I had an alignment done and all 4 tires checked for balancing and tire pressure issues. My brakes are in excellent condition and the vehicle did not make any unexpected sounds either before or after the incident and no dash board lights came on before or after the incident. I went to my mechanic and he researched the problem and I was told that the eps was malfunctioning so he reset the computer and the problem seemed to be rectified. Unfortunately, the problem occurred again, on Monday, June 2, 2025 except this time the car lurched to the right with the same intensity. I went back to my mechanic on Friday, June 6, 2025 and after diagnosis I was told that the same problem is occurring with the eps but this time it cannot be fixed and the cost of repair is approximately $3200. 00. I did some research on line and found a ton of information on complaints about faulty eps systems in multiple year Honda's and an investigation that is ongoing involving the nhtsb about this defect. I went to baron Honda, in patchogue, NY and one of their service managers, steve, says he hasn't heard anything about any of this. I call bs. I'm angry.
While driving at about 20 - 30 mph making turns either right or left my steering locks up causing me to almost hit a pedestrian. I was able to stop the car on n time. I shut the car off and restarted raving the engine to build up pressure. It mostly happens in morning or when the car sits a very long period.
Steering is hard to turn to the right and easy to the left. I suspect bad electronic steering rack and pinion. Not safe to drive. No warning lights as of yet, but mechanically has symptoms.
The eps has failed. The steering wheel automatically turns to the left on its own which almost caused an accident and it is difficult to turn the steering wheel.
While driving, the steering wheel jerks to the left. There is a constant pressure of the wheel turning left. This puts me and others in danger. There have been other experiences from other people on different forums that have experienced this. Warning lamp did come on for electric steering but turned off a few days later.
Traction control/abs/brake lights turn on 122-11 vsa solenoid valve malfunction and 83-11 which causes pcm malfunction. This is a known problem with Honda vehicles and should be a recall. When this error occurs traction/abs/brake, ldw fcw are disabled. The fix for this is over $1000. 00.
Steering has failed. Yes available for inspection. Safety of driver and occupants as well as other drivers due to vehicle making an unwanted sharp left turn. Yes the Honda dealer has confirmed. Yes by the Honda dealership. No warnings, just a sudden left turn by the steering wheel.
2013 Honda Accord ex-l v6 2 separate malfunctions loss of all power steering faulty vsa module effecting dashboard indicators broken vsa (vehicle stability assistance) module causes the abs, fcw, ldw vsa, steering, and tire gauge warnings to light up solid. Causing the driver to be unaware if anything is wrong with the vehicle. Also leaving the car without working safety features promised by Honda such as the (fcw) forward collision warning and (ldw) lane departure warning due to the faulty vsa module I did not receive a warning at my loss of power steering. I was able to maneuver myself off the main road and take it to a local mechanic who after scanning and checking was confused and suggested that it would most likely need an entire steering rack replacement. Still haven't gone to an official Honda dealership. I did not receive any warning from the vehicle when my power steering went out. Due to the faulty vsa module affecting the lights on my dashboard that included the one that would indicate faulty power steering. This is the first year of the model to incorporate esa. Nhsta has had a open investigation into the faulty power steering but was eventually closed due to lack of reports. Many people have been reporting similar issues with this model and it has caused accidents and allegedly some deaths. At this current time there is no safety recall by Honda to fix either the broken vsa module or more importantly the power steering. Vsa modules have been recalled and replaced by Honda in different countries but not in the united states. The faulty vsa module puts drivers at risk by leaving the driver unaware of any potential issues with their vehicle until the problem already happens and leaves mechanics confused as to what the issue actually is. I implore NHTSA to take action against this very dangerous issue with both the loss of power steering and the vsa module with this year and model of Honda.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle was pulling to the left. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that another vehicle was approaching close by on the right and the contact attempted to steer over to the left. The vehicle was extremely close to the highway grooves and the steering wheel seized to the left. The contact who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the vehicle with power steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.
Steering is sticky and difficult to turn sometimes. Sometimes the steering loosens up very quickly resulting in a very fast turn, making it very dangerous. On a regular turn, the steering wheel almost jitters, providing uneven no codes or warnings have shown up. Honda wants $4000 to replace the entire eps rack but have not stated a definitive issue with it. This all started out of nowhere, I was driving in a neighborhood and the steering went haywire.
When we drive the car, there is a problem with the power steering that causes the steering wheel to over-steer, which makes the car jerk to one side or the other without warning, which makes the car veer into other lanes. We took the car to the auto shop, the mechanic told us that when the car is up on the lift and they start the car, the wheels turn by themselves, which shouldn't happen.
1. Faulty vehicle stability assistance (vsa) and antilock braking system (abs) module. Common issue and reported by thousands of Accord owners, other models of same Honda generation have been recalled for same exact issue. Vehicle is available for inspection on request. 2. Faulty vsa module poses increased risk of “loss-of-traction” events that could result to injury or death on roads. Faulty abs module poses a severe detriment to the braking system of a the vehicle, in some cases rendering the brake pedal unresponsive or locking the brakes, in turn increasing the risk of losing control of the vehicle that could result in injury or death. 3. Yes, multiple mechanics have diagnosed the vehicle and came to the same conclusion that it is a faulty vsa/abs module. 4. No, manufacturer, police or insurance reps have not investigated. 5. Yes this issue is known to trigger every warning light on the dashboard to turn on at once. That is what happened on my vehicle.
Power steering issues: stiff steering wheel that locks then becomes loose and causes loss of steering control. Deviation from the intended path of travel without warning or driver input. Constant veering to one side without driver input.
Vsa failure associate with fcw, ldw, vsa, tmps and eps warning light. The cause is vsa modular.
Power steering failed without warning which is extremely dangerous and could possibly cause a fatality.
Steering wheel will pull left and want to keep going left. Have to really pull steering wheel right to keep car straight. This is a known problem on 2013 Honda Accords. This almost caused an accident on the road. I am bringing it to Honda but it's a known problem and should be recalled. I know the 2012 models had the issue and they were recalled.
When overtaking a car on a one lane highway, the engine suddenly started to sputter and the steering felt unstable, and a few seconds later, four engine lights turned on (malfunction indicator lamp, vehicle stability assist system indicator, electric power steering system indicator, low tire pressure/tpms indicator). I was able to drive the car to an auto shop, where their mechanics did a diagnosis and found codes p0087, 83-11, 61-11, 85-01. While cycling through the codes all lights turned off, so they advised that I could continue to drive the car as is. A few weeks later, the same problem happened when I was driving on the highway. This time, I could not push the car past 2500 rpm, rendering the car unable to exceed 55mph on the highway. I was able to drive the car to a Honda dealership. They diagnosed p0087 and p0088 codes, and followed the TSB recommendation to replace the high pressure fuel pump. After paying the hefty replacement fee and getting the new part, the car works as expected. High pressure fuel pump failed, Honda dealership did repair so they would have the old part if not already disposed. In first instance, car became unstable at high speeds. In second instance, had to drive two hours back to dealership near me on a highway going 20mph under speed limit. Also had to pull over on a narrow shoulder. Technicians reproduced problem when holding vehicle at 3000rpm. Found code p0087 and s/b 14-039 for that code, which recommended replacing the high pressure fuel pump. Component inspected by Honda dealership. Specific warning lamps and codes listed above.
I was driving into a parking spot and the car started flickering, the screen turned off and the steering locked and would not allow me to move the car at all even though it was in drive.
Power steering cuts in and out. Steering becomes stiff and power to turn is not one smooth motion.
The steering wheel of Honda Accord ex 2013 suddenly malfunctioned. It becomes heavy and stiff. It can not come back to the center automatically after left turn. We brought the car to our local Honda dealer. They diagnosed the car and told us the car "needs eps gear box only ". They said "not related to the warranty extension $3905 plus tax and shop supplies". There is not warning when the engine of the car is turned on. My car had less than 68k miles when this happened on 07/13/2024.
The vsa modulator on the 2013 ex-l manual transmission has failed. It illuminated 7 lights. Steering light, abs, fcw, brake, abs, ldw, traction control. The abs modulator internally shuts off all systems within this car. The car is not able to pass inspection because of safety issues. After looking for a used part, I realized there were many complaints on this particular make and model. I am scared to drive the car with these issues, and with 1000s of cars having the same issue with the same part, I would think Honda would correct the issue without spending $1,000’s. There were no symptoms prior. It seems that the internal soldering on the vsa modulator has been coming apart, shutting down the system.
The contact's mother owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The driver turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module (pscm) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not covered under an unknown recall campaign. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
There is something wrong with the electric power steering. Every time I drive my steering wheel pulls to the left so if I let go of the steering wheel the steering wheel will pull to the left and could potentially cause a car crash and while driving and difficulty steering (either steering feeling too firm or too loose). This is happening without the electric power steering warning light being illuminated. I do not feel safe.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph and slowing to exit the highway, the steering wheel was turned to the right and seized. The contact pulled over and stopped the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted several times however, the power steering feature was inoperable. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the eps torque sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to technical service bulletin: 15-056 eps torque sensor (steering). The contact had spoken to the dealer and to the manufacturer but was informed that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,008.
