Power Steering Light On problems of the 2013 Honda Accord - part 1

When driving the steering makes vehicle lean to the right. And when parked, it leans all the way to the right, locks up and the steering caution light comes on.

Power steering not working at all. Got into my Honda to go up the street but could not turn the steering wheel. Notice the power steering light on. Tried several time to cut the engine off and restart, but the system never came on. Like riding a dead mule!.

The traction control, brake, power steering and fcw error lights come on while driving. The message states "fcw failed". This happens while driving, parked and on all road surfaces. Even while parked in the garage. All lights come on at the same time. The come on as the vehicle gets to normal operating temperature.

The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,075. Aw.

My power steering went out. Can't steer the car. It a fine yesterday. Steering wheel warning light is on. I was parked luckily when this happened. I can't use my car now.

I was driving on the highway with my wife, mother in-law and my two years daughter and all of a sudden the steering wheel became very hard and steering light came on. I was very concerned about my family and myself because we were on the highway! I took the nearest exit it was very dificult to control the car. I stopped the to check my phone on what could be the cause? this seems to be a serious problem that happened to many people before and had reported it to the NHTSA. But nothing was done! I care for my family' safety and I will hold the NHTSA responsible if anything happens to me or my family due to this issue. This is a serious problem and needs to be addressed by Honda.

The vehicle was parked and stationary, once it was turned on the (eps) electrical power system light was displayed on the dash. Steering wheel was then difficult to move or turn. The indicator was constant from that point.

On 4/12/2019, I was driving home from work at around 24:00 (midnight) on freeway 22 westbound near the block that I suddenly realized I lost control of my steering wheel while I was traveling at 70mph plus. The steering wheel icon light up on my dashboard. This happened so fast at a curve area of the freeway, I turned on my emergency light and slowed the car down by hitting the break. There were around 4 cars to my right when this happened. Fortunately, I was able to safely reach the exit lane to the right due to the curvature of the freeway turning left by going straight. As I slowed down the car on the exit lane, I yanked the steering wheel very hard to the left then right to maneuver the car to stay in the lane. After I exited the freeway on haster street, I yanked the steering wheel very hard to the right to make the turn and found a small street then come to a stop. At this time, the steering wheel icon still illuminated on my dashboard. I turned of the car after put it to park then turned it back on and the icon disappeared. I got control of steering wheel back. I proceeded to garden grove street heading west toward my home. At the first red light on garden grove, I stopped and did not steer the wheel. Again, the steering wheel locked on me again. The icon appeared again on my dashboard. I again turned off and on the car and the icon disappeared and I had my control back. From there, I drove slowly in the right lane to my home. This time, there was no problem. On 4/13/2019, which is today, I dropped off my car at Honda world dealer on 13600 beach blvd, westminster, CA 92683 and told one of the reps about the problem. He did the inquiry on my car and system showed there was a recall of eps gearbox replacement at this dealership. I hope NHTSA will take this serious and help people like me. It's extremely dangerous to drive with no control of the steering wheel.

While driving, the power steering fails and becomes difficult to steer. The power steering warning light illuminates when this occurs. This condition has occurred at least 10 separate times in the last month and once was on the freeway traveling at 75 mph and another while traveling at 50 mph, both of which caused me to nearly lose control as I was changing lanes. All other instances occurred while making slow speed turns. Shutting off the vehicle and restarting usually reset the system but last Friday the steering failed again and has not been able to reset, going on 5 days now. This issue is dangerous and has been diagnosed at the local Honda dealer as a faulty power steering rack unit. I have researched this concern and have found several other vehicles have exhibited the same problem.

Electric power steering malfunction light came on could barely turn the wheel, the first time it happened was running about 40 mph and again it happened was running at 50 mph and going into a curve and the third time my speed was 55 mph all three times this has happened I was on a highway. The first time I had just got off the interstate. If you are where you can pull off the road and turn the vehicle off and start it again the steering is fine. Seems this should be a recall as researching on the internet I'm not the only one with this issue. Places I need to go is usually on the interstate and running 60 to 70 mph is scary not know when this may happen again. I did see on the internet where 2 accidents has occurred from this issue and thank goodness there were no injuries. I have called Honda headquarters and they act like they don't know what I am talking about and had a record that I had called in regarding this issue. So does it take someone being seriously injured or killed before this is looked at. I was told to replace the electric power steering gear. I asked about the software upgrade that I had read about and also regarding hoses that were getting hot causing this. All the dealerships know is it will cost more than $2000 for a new steering gear. This shouldn't happen in the first place. I know parts go bad and if this is an issue with other vehicles maybe due to this being dangerous driving auto makers may go back to steering fluid and do away with electric power steering. Please check on a recall issue. This has happened 3 times 08/10/2018 and twice on 08/12/2018. I am at the point I am afraid to drive the car no matter the speed and especially on certain roads. Sudden loss of power steering and power steering warning light appeared while vehicle was in motion on city street. Continued to drive vehicle and power steering returned after 20 to 30 minutes. Indicator light shut off 30 to 40 minutes after power steering returned.

My car is 2013 Accord bought brand new from gardena Honda and no other mechanic touched it. Since 2013, I have serviced my car at the same location. My car was perfectly fine however, once I received the battery recall letter I decided to take my car into gardena Honda. Please note my car still has less than 30,000 miles on it. August 2017 I went to get my car checked for the battery recall they said everything was fine and that they applied konshi bond to protect bms. Two days later after work my car did not start (stationary). Check engine was on, check steering light on & traction light on plus low pressure on. I immediately felt unsafe to drive my car but had to take it back to Honda to see what they had done to it. Honda said it was not their fault and that now the problem had nothing to do with my battery. Instead, it was my engine wire harness. That needed to be fixed for a price of ~$2,800 but they could lower it to $669. 15 + tax I just want to express how disappointed I am in Honda. I bought a Honda because they are supposed to be a reliable car. Back in March 2016 they told me by battery failed the battery test and decided to charge it. November 2016, they made me buy a new battery, at that time my car was still brand new with only 22,000 miles on it. I don't believe this is coincidence. I got a Honda for reliability reasons. I also know you are not supposed to service the car for the same issue 3 times and I shouldn't be concern of my 2013 Honda car that still has less than 30,000 miles of any electrical issues. I am concern of service fraud because I was charge to recharged and replace the battery. One time I was within warranty and the other was just a few months afterward. I am requesting a reimbursement of some manner; it can be monetary or free servicing my car.

While driving on the highway the power steering warning light (its a little orange steering wheel with an ! next to it) comes on and the wheel becomes very hard to turn. The car also feel unstable as if I were driving over a bridge in high wind. This has happend twice so far in the last two days. Both times were at night on the highway about 20 minutes into a 45 min commute. Luckily for me it was late at night so I was able to pull over without incident. Turning off the car and restarting it after a minute temporarily fixed the problem.

Few months later loss of power steering and steering light comes back on while driving on the local road. . If you turn off the engine and restart light will disappear and power steering works again.

When I stopped for paying toll, car displayed engine light and steering safely light with jerking sound, not acceleration and steering g locked for few seconds and then released . I pulled the vehicle to parking lot and stopped. . . I started the vehicle after 3 minutes . . . There is a rattling noise in the engine and (fcw) warning came. . . Says fcw system failed . I left the car at parking lot and towing back to dealer tomorrow. . . Not safe to drive as the accelation is very erratic and consistent . . . Traveling with my kids and scared of losing control of the car. . . It is on interstate 294 close o'hare airport . . Christmas day and all repair shops closed.

Traveling on freeway and a power steering indicator light turned on (see image). The steering became extremely difficult and the car was slightly swaying (similar to driving in a high wind area, except there was no wind). Once exiting the freeway and decreasing the speed the steering became increasingly difficult. The car experienced a complete power steering failure. Once safely at a gas station the car was shut off and turned on again. At this point, the power steering returned to normal. Car was driven to a Honda dealership for inspection and servicing.

My vehicle, a 2013 Honda Accord ex-l v6, has been having issues where a power steering light would come on in my warning lights, and then I would lose the assistance of electronic power steering. My commute is a short one in the suburbs of chicago. However, if I were actually in downtown chicago, or on a highway, the eps failure could be fatal. The first time it happened, I was driving across irving park road, and I pulled over and restarted the car. When I checked the power steering fluid reservoir the next day, it was low and took half a bottle of power steering fluid to fill. The problem recently resurfaced tonight when I was driving home from class. Even after restarting the vehicle several times, the power steering never came back.

Two weeks ago, my steering wheel pulled left quickly and then back. I thought I hit a rock. In the past two weeks same issue. Yesterday, pulled out of the garage and the steering wheel indicator light came on. Read the book. Restarted the engine. It went away. Today, after driving about 5 minutes indicator light came on again. Steering wheel froze. Restarted and ok. Driving on major highway, indicator light came on and all steering was frozen. I am traveling, therefore had to find the closest Honda dealer. I am now stranded for two days awaiting repair. I'm 8 hours from home, and now suspicious and worried whether I will return home safely. After reading some entries, I too had slow movements since I have owned this vehicle -- thought is was the new cvs engine.

When driving all of a sudden power steering fails all the lights on the dashboard flash on and off and all the electrical's shut off including heat/ac. Everythnig goes back to normal after a few seconds. This happens randomlay and at various speeds.

While driving on a 2 lane road, I suddenly lost power in my steering and as I was approaching a curve I nearly crashed into the car next to me. The steering light came on and steering the car was nearly impossible. I continued to drive and exited a the nearest exit and turned off the car. When I turned it off and on again the light on the dashboard vanished and the steering was back to normal. Since then I haven't felt comfortable driving the vehicle. I called my local Honda service department and they said that without the light on or the issue being apparent, there is nothing they can do. I am concern with this issue as it implies a serious safety issue. I have read some posts and this seems to be a problem with this year and model.

First occasion it happened, the steering wheel jerked to the right, the steering wheel light did not come on. . (30 mph) second occasion it happened, the steering wheel jerked to the right, the steering wheel light did not come on. I was driving roughy 20 mph. Third time it happened, I was driving 70 mph and almost hit the guy next to me. The steering wheel light did not come on the fourth time it happened, I was driving 40 mph and the steering wheel light did come on. I did not have power steering for about 30 miles. The fifth time it happened, I was driving about 80 mph and the light did not come on.

While driving on a city street at 30 mph experienced loss of power steering and eps warning light simultaneously came on. Turned vehicle off and restarted as manual instructed; warning light went out and power steering appeared ok. Later the same day while driving on a city street at 30 mph the eps warning light came on and vehicle was once again very difficult to steer due to loss of power steering. The next day light was still on and power steering did not work. Vehicle had to be repaired. Dealer stated it needed a "software update" and they found a "loose pin fit at eps control unit".

At a stop sign, made a right turn. Right after I made the turn, at approximately 15-20 mph the power steering abruptly failed. Power steering failure light then came on. Pulled over and after turning off the car and then back on, the steering worked again, though it failed in a similar manner after driving for about another 5 minutes.

Driving down houston freeway when out of nowhere my steering wheel became too hard to move. Immediately after the light on dash for steering wheel came on. I was able to safely make my way to far right lane where I was able to exit. Once I exited I turned off vehicle restarted and both steering and light were back to normal. I drove down maybe 4-5 miles going 30 (I didn't get back on freeway) and it happened again! once again I stopped car and restarted with same results. I had already contacted dealer since it happened to me once before but at night in a back country road. They informed me they could do a diagnostics test for a fee. (they have done this test before but for 2 other problems with vehicle the key light came on the dash for no apparent reason and the rear camera screen kept going black) I remember then they couldn't do anything for me since they were unable to replicate the problem. I am so glad my little ones were not in the car when this has happened. I don't feel safe driving this car anymore its unbelievable that with all of these complaints nothing has been done to remedy situation.

When driving the 2013 Honda Accord this morning at 60 mph for several miles, the power steering problem light lit on the dash and immediately lost all power to turn the steering. After another mile or so, and barely being able to turn the vehicle, the car was turned off and then back on. This must have reset the component as the light was off and steering was back to normal. Fortunately, the car was not in a turn when this occurred as it may have caused a serious accident. 2 hours later, I was at the dealer and was advised that they would change out the rack for $1700. This part has a 3 year / 36k warranty. My car is 2 years old but with 58k miles (highway). A rack should last far longer than 2 years, plus with the new technology, Honda should be willing to fix it to learn to keep it from happening on future models.

Had gotten back in my car after a stop at a retail store. When I turned the car on the tire pressure light was blinking, the electric power steering light was on, and the vehicle stability assist light was on. I pulled over at another store within a half mile. I got out and checked the tires for a possible flat - no problem. Turned car back on and same scenario with the 3 lights on. Only difference was the tire pressure light stopped flashing but stayed on continuously. I looked in car manual, page 6 of Honda technology reference guide, under the heading of malfunction indicators and it said, "if an indicator remains on, there may be a problem; see your dealer". I will call my car dealer in the morning. I want to state that I still had full control of my power steering. I read of others losing the power steering but mine was okay. After the second stop the 3 malfunctioning indicator lights went out.
