When retracting, the driver side seat belt can catch on the power seat lever which reclines the driver seat. As a result, the seat back reclines unless someone determines the reason for the seat going back. The seat reclines with such force that anyone sitting in the back seat can be severely injured and potentially crushed by the force.

While my son was driving my vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord ex-l, he was involved in a head-on crash in which he was injured and the vehicle received heavy damage. My son was taken to the hospital due to cervical spine, lumbar and chest injury. The vehicle had struck another vehicle at a speed of about 35 mph and the airbag failed to deploy. On the dashboard the airbag sign did light on, however, no airbag had deployed. The seat belt pre-tensioner had fried since the seat belt was locked and was not retracting in addition, the seat belt pre-tensioner had fries. I had contacted Honda north America, and they reported there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and the vehicle behaved as it was suppose to. However, after contacting NHTSA, the representative stated with a 2005 Honda Accord, if the seat belt pre-tensioner fires, the airbag should fire simultaneously, who then suggested me to submit a claim to NHTSA. The vehicle did undergo repair authorized by the insurance company. The seat belt was replaced in addition to the airbag module and other associated items. However, the old items are not available.
I was on I-285 going about 40 mph when a truck carrying tree limbs and branches pulled off the median directly in front of me. My 2003 Honda Accord ex coupe rear ended the truck. The front passenger air bag deployed breaking the windshield but the driver's side air bag did not deploy. The driver's seat belt did not retract. Damage was confined to the hood, bumper and several components under the hood (compressor, radiator, etc). The vehicle was towed to my local Honda dealer who is making all the necessary repairs. The dealer informed me that Honda recommends the seat belt buckle be replaced when the seat belt needs to be replaced. The dealer ordered the seat belt buckle but noticed it was the wrong part when they went to install it. They contacted Honda north America on may 4 and again on may 12 regarding this and as of may 13 the dealer still has had no response from Honda north America. The car was scheduled to be ready on may 12 and now the dealer can't give me a completion date because of Honda north America's refusal to contact the dealer regarding the seat belt buckle. In the meantime, I am still having to pay a portion of my rental car and the maximum allowed by my insurance company will max out this coming week.

The contact's vehicle was involved in a multiple vehicle crash. This vehicle was the fourth to collide with the other vehicles. Upon impact, ,both frontal airbags failed to deploy and the driver side seat belt did not restrain her properly. The seat belt allowed her to collide with the steering wheel and caused minor bruises. The frontal collision caused frame damage to vehicle. A police report taken at the scene. The vehicle is currently at a collision center being inspected.
I was entering the intersection of gibbon street and south washington street in old town alexandria, virginia when I saw a taxi blow through a red light on south washington street (I was on gibbon street). The point of impact was the front driver's side of my 2004 Honda Accord and the front passenger side of the taxi. We slid across the intersection together as my airbags deployed. When we came to a stop I realized that my seat belt, along with my passenger's seat belt, was still buckled, however the belt was completely unraveled. There were no serious injuries to myself or my passenger, but I did receive a partial tear of the tendons in my left thumb and burns on the top of my right hand from the airbag deploying. As of now, there have not been any repairs to the car as I am waiting for both insurance companies to make a decision on what to do as far as fixing it or claiming it a total loss. It is suspected that a new steering wheel, a new dashboard, new airbags, computer calibration and a new front end are needed, not to mention new seat belts.
Driver seat belt did not restrain driver. Driver received injury from hitting steering wheel.
My daughter was in an accident on 3/3/05 with her 2004 2 door Honda Accord. She was traveling 40 mph and hit a vehicle turning across traffic head on. Not only did her air bags not deploy, her seat belt did not hold her back either. I tried contacting Honda, and their answer was they will refer it to legal department. I want to know my daughter is going to be safe driving a brand new car and they don't even want to send anyone to look at it.
