Honda Civic owners have reported 18 problems related to brake disc rotor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Civic based on all problems reported for the Civic.
The contact owns a 2009 Honda accord. During brake application between 25-40 mph she experiences pulsation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The technician resurfaced the front and rear brake rotors because they were out of round. The failure mileage was 18. The current mileage was 120.

I purchased a new 2006 Honda Civic lx on 3/18/06. On 8/31/06 after 15,658 highway miles, the driver's side inner front brake pad wore out and ruined the rotor. I replaced the rotor, pad, and caliper with original Honda parts. My daughter has complained that this car's braking is "unstable". Now at 34,000 miles the front inner pads are worn to metal again. The outer pads and rear shoes are still very serviceable. I called the dealer and Honda and they both fail to admit a problem or offer a solution. I think this car's brakes have a design flaw that causes the front inner pads to wear out prematurely. And I think this flaw also causes unstable braking. I have the car and the old parts for inspection.

The caller stated that rust has built up on the front rotors and she had to have it removed. There was a noise when turning at slow speeds. The dealer said they would look at it and remove the rust. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet.

The steering wheel would shimmy when braking from 40-60 mph. The dealer was notified. Dealer informed that they were aware of the problem concerning the front rotors. Please provide any further information.

Front brake rotors are continually warping. Car has approximately 48,000 miles on the odometer and am now on my third set of rotors. First and second set of rotors were each re-machined prior to replacement. Spoke with Honda customer service and was told nothing they could do since they cannot verify my driving habits. Car has a manual transmission, so I use engine braking as much as possible to avoid overuse of the brakes. Am at the point now where I am afraid to use the brakes for fear of constantly warping the rotors. Have done some informal research and appears this is a common problem with various Honda models, not just Civic. Honestly feel that I am not hard on my brakes, and believe this is more of a design flaw on Honda's part. Have not had any injuries associated with this problem yet, but it is adversely affecting my suspension and steering components, not to mention my finances.

While driving 60 mph driver applied the brakes and vehicle stalled. Consumer had vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that rotors needed to be replaced due to corrosion.

Rotors resurfaced and master cylinder replace at 20,000 miles, rotors resurfaced again at 32,000, now need to be replaced and master cylinder going out again. Honda refuses to fix because warranty has expired. Blamed everything from me, to tire rotations, to getting the rotors wet. Will be filing a lemon law suit. Rotors and master cylinders do not wear out 3 times in 42,000 unless there is a defect. I don't ride my brakes and I don't even rotate my tires so those causes are nill.
I own a 1996 Honda Civic ex,, I am having alot of trouble with rotors going bad. I have changed the brakes bought new roters and I'm having trouble with the abs not working right. As there been a recall on this problem?.

Rotors have warped repeatedly, I only noticed due to the pulsation when I applied the brakes. Seems to be consistently happening every 25,000 to 30,000 miles. I have a CO-worker who bought the same make and model 30 days before we did who is experiencing the same problem. He has had to have his turned 3 times, and finally bought replacement rotors at 90,000 miles. If this is not caught by the owner, or during a routing inspection, the brake system may fail to function properly, resulting in crashes and possible fatalities.

Recall 96v106000. The hydraulic brakes drag, the brake rotors have been changed, the problem still exists. Dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
Repeated warping of brake rotor with severe vibration at highway speed whenever brakes applied. Turning (resurfacing) rotor only solves problem for 10,000 miles. Dealer wouldn't cover under warranty & insists vibration does not affect safety. I do not believe this, as steering wheel jerks violently at higher speeds.
Brake rotors keep warping. Has happened 3 different times. At dealer's & rotors cut down. No warranty. Rotor problem keeps returning.
Brakes are overheating and causing the rear rotors to warp. Rotors were turned at 3,000-5,000 miles. Rotors are warping again at 18,000 miles. This condition causes the vehicle to shake in the rear end when applying the brakes.
Brake rotors failed two time in 20,000 miles, first repair at 9,000 miles, rotors warped causing extreme vibration while braking.
The front rotors have now twice failed in 21,000 miles, due to excessive warping. The first failure occurred at 9,000 miles; the second began at approximately 20,000 miles and became increasingly more severe. Honda has provided no colorable explanation for why this would occur. With respect to driving, the local Honda dealer claims that this poses no safety issue. I respectfully disagree. The warping has resulted in severe shimmying in the car (and, at some speeds, a hard and sudden pull) upon application of the brakes, affecting both steering and stopping, and overall handling. Despite the car's relatively low mileage, the local Honda dealer (sf Honda) has deemed this to be a "regular" wear and tear item, and thus only machined down the rotors to resolve the most recent warping. I have never heard of (or experienced) such rotor warping in 15 years of driving. I am also confirming by letter (copied to the dealer and the manufacturer) the substance of this questionnaire. I further note that a technical service bulletin has previously been issued with respect to the 1997 Civic's brakes.
Brake rotors needed to be replaced 4 times within 45,000 due to poor rotor design.
While applying the brakes vehicle vibrated. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the rotors needed to be replaced due to worn parts, and replaced them four times. However, problem recurred.
Front disk rotors failed.
