1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

I am experiencing very rapid rear brake pad wear on my Civic. It is a 2012 model, and is driven quite normally as a commuter vehicle to and from work daily. In 2015 at about 60k miles, the rear pads were worn to 0%. I was surprised, but replaced them then. Just recently, at about 80k miles, I am just had my mechanic report they're back down to about 10% life and needing replacement soon. This is unnaturally fast, is expensive, and unsafe as mechanics and consumers are used to rear brakes wearing much more slowly than front brakes. In the same period of time, the front brakes are still the original pads, and are showing about 35% life remaining - they have never been replaced. I've read around on forums online, and this seems to be a recurring problem for other Civic owners.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2001 Honda Civic

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/12/2017

Rear wheels lock intermittently. Excessive rear rotor wear, with normal wear on pads. Appears as if pads have worn out allowing for grinding against rotors. However, pads exhibit normal wear. Honda offers no explanation for corrosion. For comparison have attached photos of rear rotor and front rotor. Rear rotors exhibit significant wear/corrosion with pad life around 60%. This is equal on both rear wheels of the vehicle. Front rotors have normal wear @70% pad remaining. California based vehicle, but exposed to snow and winter driving. Rear wheels lock on an intermittent basis, as if rear parking brake is being applied. Potentially very dangerous, especially in cold weather driving.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Civic. The contact stated that a warning indicator randomly kept flashing to check the air bag system. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least three times, but they were unable to provide a solution. The contact felt as if they misdiagnosed providing a solution and required that brake repairs be completed before servicing the air bag system. The first repair from the dealer indicated that the abs indicator was illuminated, but the contact stated that it was the air bag warning indicator. The dealer cleaned the rear brakes and adjusted the rear brakes during the first repair. During the second repair, the dealer replaced and resurfaced the front brake pads. The brake fluid exchange was serviced as well. Two days after the repairs, the service air bags indicator illuminated again. The dealer was notified of the failure a third time and indicated that they would follow up, but the contact received no response. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

Okay so I bought my 2013/civic with 4200 mil . . . . At 9000 miles I had to replace my pads and resurface the rotors. . . Mechanic said it was durle to my driving habits. . . Now it happens again at 30k. . This time had to buy new rotors and pads. . . Mechanic said the same due to driving habits. . But now that I see other stories I really have a hard time believing it was my driving that caused it. . . Please look into this and the air bag situation. . . Thanks.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Civic. While driving at 30 mph, the contact heard a noise from the passenger side of the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rotors and pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,000.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

Every 9,000 to 10,000 miles rear brake pads worn out prematurely causing rotors to lock up without warning. I believe this issue occurred on almost all 2010 Honda Civic. In normal driving condition brake pads should last at least 30,000 miles in compare to other major car manufactures. Please investigate this with Honda and find a remedy for the fix.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Today, 9/24/2014, I had to replace my front brakes for the second time and the car has only 46,147 miles on it. My wife and I drive the car very carefully and we don't live in a mountain area. First time we changed the brakes was at 10,000 miles. I chose Honda Civic because of previous Hondas I had, and none of the previous Honda had brakes issues like our 2010 Civic. I had a 2008 Civic which I leased at that time, and I exited the lease at 36,000 miles without having to change the brakes once! I feel that my 2010 Civic has a defective brakes and the service department where I had my car serviced at said they heard similar complaints. Honda needs to put the safety of their clients ahead and admit of their faulty brake pads and issue a recall on the 2010 Honda Civic. Thank you!.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

I purchase me the car in January 2014 and replaced the brakes in September 2014. Now I have to replace them again because the pads keep wearing down. My rotors were also affected. There is a constant rubbing sound while driving and turning.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

Driverside rear brake pads and rotor excessive wear more than front disc brakes. Usually the front disc brake pads have to be replaced before the rear.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

Breaks sank to the floor. After rolling to a stop, and turning off the car, it started to work like normal. Break pads are worn out after 2000 miles with conservative driving.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

I've been driving for 35 year and have replaced brakes and rotors numorous times. I've never had to replace brake pads on a 18 month old car. Without warning they wore prematurely down to the metal. After searching for similar complaints, I found a class action lawsuit from 2010 with the accord. Honda lost but they haven't fixed the issue with the Civic. There are countless complaints from other Honda owners. The service department from two dealers refuse to admit to the problem and referred me to corporate. No more Hondas for me.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 04/26/2014

My 2008 Honda Civic is having issues with the braking system. Specifically the brake pads wear out very soon. My first set of brakes lasted 34,000 miles, the second set lasted only 22000 miles. All services are done at the dealership at manufacturer recommended intervals. Also there is no significant difference in my driving patterns. On both occasions, it is the front brake pads that have worn out prematurely, resulting in significant replacement costs.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

Càr inspected in Dec 27 2013 . Inspection verifies brakes are in good shape passes inspection. Two weeks later brakes began making noises. Took to Honda dealer again and was told brakes required replacement with rotors resurfaced dealer indicates virtually no breaks. Unsure how condition of brakes were missed during inspection. I feel brakes pads wore prematurely.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

As a precaution, had brakes inspected 6 months ago when car had approximately 50,000 miles on odometer. Expecting some pad wear at this mileage but there was no indication of a problem. My very trusted mechanic saw no problems with the pads and sent me on my way. On next oil change 6 months later, same mechanic says that my pads have completely worn out and caused damage to the rotors - a $650 repair on both front and rear brakes. The most troubling thing about all of this is that there was absolutely no "cricketing" of the brake pads at any time! and no other typical break wear function issues. Nothing to indicate a problem with my brakes and no way for me to know, aside from a sudden catastrophic brake failure in the future. This problem is all over the internet and why the NHTSA is allowing Honda to ignore this issue is completely beyond comprehension.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

It started as a scraping noise located on the right side of the wheel, on the fourth day the noise was overwhelmingly loud, scraping sound even though my speed was under the limit. I took my car to ntb for repair and was shocked! replaced disc brake pads, brake shoes, two rotors even though the one looked smooth they both hsd to be replaced.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The brakes have completely worn out at less than 40,000 miles. I noticed a problem, and brought it in to be checked and they told me that not only that I need new pads but I need new rotors as well. There is no reason that these components wore out this fast, especially the rotors.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

Car brakes makes squealing noise when brakes applied. Car is out of warranty so I removed both front wheels and discover both front brake pads are worn to the metal now brake pads and rotors require replacement,I have been driving for over 40 years and owned numerous different cars over the years, this is the first car that I have seen that wear out brakes this fast, most of the cars I have owned lasted a minimum of 45,000 miles some lasted to about 90,000 miles,by the way I am a professional mechanic and I do not abuse my vehicles in fact I have been told that that I drive like a old lady. I feel that this should be a factory safety recall, some people with no mechanical knowledge might continue to operate this car and get themselves into a horrible situation sooner or later.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Second time brake pad worn badly: first time was just over 20,000 miles on the car as filed in my complaint # 10525136. Now just over a year later and only 12,000 miles more (32,700) I find my left front outer brake pad is worn to 10% while the inner pad is at 85%. Right tire pads at both at 90%. Noise started abruptly two days ago sounding horrible. Have to spend nearly an additional $200. 00 for new pads again. Noise continues even when not braking - leading one to believe there is no retraction of the pad against the rotor.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

Persisting grinding "metal to metal" noise when applying brakes. It feels brakes are not functional and liable to crash. Multiple visits to brake shops has resulted to new pads and rotors but no change in status of grinding "metal to metal" noise. Honda car forums reveal same experience by other owners. No fix from Honda motors. Not covered in warranty. Brake failure may result to crash and fatality even on low speed.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

A dog ran into the street and I had to brake hard quickly. The brakes made a grinding sound and were very unstable causing the car to skid and swerve. Took the car in for 15k servicing and was told brakes were shot, got new pads and rotors resurfaced. This was too soon, the serviceman blamed my driving habits. Took the car in for servicing near 25k miles and brakes again had to be replace and rotors turned. The service man again blamed my driving habits. I have been driving over 35 years, 6 different cars, the same route for 17 years and never had to get brakes replaced before 30k miles and certainly never had problems with the rotors so soon.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/30/2013

I took my 2012 Honda Civic for service I was told my rear brakes needed to be replaced, they replaced rear brake pads, new shim plates, resurfaced rotors. My rear brakes were at 2mm. I do not understand how could the rear brakes wear out before the front brakes they were at 7mm. I think my rear braking system must be defective.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

I bought this car used from a dealership. About 2 weeks later, I noticed what sounded like two metal discs rubbing against each other. I took the car back to the dealership and told them what I was hearing. They looked into it and found out that the rotors needed to be machined and the brake pads replaced. I was pretty shocked that at 22,000 miles, this would need to be done. Luckily since I had bought the car less than a month ago, the dealership paid the cost of the job which was around $200. This has me concerned for future use of my car, especially when it comes to highway driving.

24 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

At 15000 miles my cars front brake pads and rotars are worn out, I had brought my car to Honda for my 15000 mile service, where they are supposed to inspect brakes, yet no mention of brake issues were brought up. Two weeks later my brakes were bad. I have been reading that many people have the same defect in there Honda Civics. I am hopeful that Honda does a recall, to protect there name, because I was originally very happy to have a Honda, now I am truly disappointed.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Bought car with 63835 miles and at 65000 miles car needed brake pads and the rotor replace cause of bad wear , they were replace and now at 73000 miles I need brake pads again , brakes on these car is the worst ever.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 01/23/2013

Needed new break pads at 18,645 miles during three year lease. Warranty does not cover break pads like other car makers. Break pads should not wear out so quick. I do not have 245 dollars for every 18 thousand miles or less to change the breaks every 2 years. I have owned a chevy and Ford, bought brand new and needed new break pads at 40k miles plus.

27 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/24/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the front brake pads were wearing out prematurely. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The brakes were replaced. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileage was 63,000.

28 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

I purchased the vehicle as certified pre-owned in June 2012 with 23834 miles. In November 2012 at 33035 miles the front brake pads needed to be replaced and the left front rotor needed to be resurfaced. I figured the brakes had never been replaced since I expect approximately 30000 miles of usage from front brakes. In July 2013 at 46216 miles the front brake pads were replaced again. To my frustration the dealership said normal wear and tear but I have never heard of brakes on a small light car needed to be replaced. I've had numerous prior cars that had breaks last longer than 13000 miles. I have seen numerous complaints on forums and even a pending class action lawsuit over this specific issue. This should be addressed and if necessary a recall issued since early brake failure is a major safety issue!.

29 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/25/2012

Have had to replace the brake pads every 6 months dince we purchased in July 2012. The car had very liw miles when purchased and now has 90,000. Miles. The mechanic says it is not normal to need replacement so often. Brakes buckle when coming to a sudden stop.

30 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

Front brake pads completely bare. I am an older woman driver who does not endure much stop and go traffic. Never owned a car where brake pads failed/worn in just 1 1/2 years of driving. All other cars owned by family have brake pads last 80k miles. Replacing pads today, but was told by Honda rep that it is my fault due to my driving habits. Had I known what I now know. Or seen the online customer/owner's comments regarding their customer service and brake issues that date back almost a decade, I would not have bought this car.

31 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/24/2012

On our new Honda Civic, our front brakes went out at 15,900 miles. Of course, the service reps tried to blame the "hard driving" which was their assumption. They did replace them, but now at 29,000 miles, the front brakes are out again. Clearly, Honda is using either poor quality pads or the braking system is defective. We are taking it in again, but don't have a lot of confidence that they'll do the right thing and fix this.

32 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/13/2012

My 2010 Honda Civic dx with just over 36,000 miles on it has been going through brake pads every 10-15,000 miles. This is entirely too frequent, and the braking system is grinding and having issues now as well. This should not be happening on a vehicle that is this new, and the brakes should be lasting much longer. Even a heavy breaker does not go through brake pads this frequently. There should be a recall by Honda to see that the components that make up the braking system satisfactorily reflect the quality of craftsmanship and build that Honda represents to its customers. The dot should pressure Honda to take ownership and legal responsibility of these issues in light of their prevalence and the many complaints that have been filed by consumers already.

33 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

The brakes started making a loud whining sound, but only in reverse. From what research I can do, it appears to be the brake pads wearing out prematurely.

34 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

I was accelerating to the posted speed of 55 mph, another vehicle suddenly changed lane and pulled in front of my car. I hit the brakes, but the brake pedal became stiff and the brakes could not be applied. I had to pump 2 or 3 times and tried different amount of force. I barely escaped acident. The problem becomes much worse in cold weather and on snow and ice. I encountered stiff brake pedal problem at least 100 times between December 2012 & March 2013 on rt 83 between oakbrook and willowbrook (suburbs of chicago, IL). The traffic at rush hour can be stop and go, and brakes need to be applied at least dozens of time in a distance of about 7 miles. I used all of my safe driving skills, and started keeping much greater distance from the cars ahead. It was scary. The problem still continues. At about 25,000 miles on the odometer, I had to replace brake pads & have rotors machined at a Honda dealer. The next day, in July 2014, on a clear day and dry road surface, with the normal braking at a traffic light stop, brake pedal became stiff. I am worried about the coming winter. I have never been informed by Honda to bring in my car for fixing this problem. My daughter bought this car in California in June 2009 (I was a CO-borrower). She drove about 12000 miles in 3 years. My daughter also had encountered this stiff brake pedal problem, right from day one. In June 2012, the car was shipped by truck to my place, and I became the owner/driver of the car.

35 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2010 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/19/2012

Need front rotors and pads - totally destroyed with all highway driving and less mileage than any other car ever owned. $466. 57 with no warranty. Ludicrous that this would occur at this mileage. Could have been a major accident with no warning.
