I own a 6 speed manual sport coupe purchased on 5/30/19. On 2/10/20 I was stopped at a light on a slight downhill 15- 20' behind car in front. Shift was in neutral with my foot on brake pedal. After a while, my car started moving forward. I pushed harder on the brake pedeal but no response and coasted into rear of car. One person in each car and nobody injured. Fearful that brake failure would occur again, had car towed to local Honda dealer where purchased. Receipt to me indicted they did diagnostic testing, inspected brake system and test drove car. "advised customer no problems at the moment". As noted before testing, since no manufacturer defects found was charged $139. 95. On 2/11, received call from mgr. Of Honda svc. Dept. Due to my negative survey responses. Told him I was not satisfied with answer by employee to my question of why forward collision mitigation/fcm did not brake when getting close to car. Mgr. Stated that fcm is designed not to work when car in neutral or reverse. I consider lack of fcm in neutral to be a serious safety design flaw. Mgr. Then recommended that I open case with Honda customer relations which done on 2/14. Rep. Took down my info. And asked what I wanted from Honda. I said they need to determine why the brake failure happened and what can be done so I have confidence that it will never occur again. She then gave me a case # and stated that it would need to be referred to the "level 1" dept. Handling accidents/injuries/fatalities. Received a call from "level 1" on 2/17 but was told there was nothing they could do/was a local dealer issue and he was to contact the mgr. Of the local Honda svc. Dept. I sent voice/e-mails to mgr. Of local Honda svc. Dept. On 2/21 noting my experience with cust. Relations/"level 1", and asking what are the next steps -- awaiting response. I am currently driving the car in fear/on edge.

I own the 6 speed manual trans hatchback sport. Purchased Aug 12, 2019. Last night I exited the vehicle, wanting to keep it running and use he headlights to see- put the car in neutral and applied parking brake. Brake failed and car rolled across the parking lot. I religiously apply this brake. I have come to the car before in supermarket lot and such to find the brake off, but chalked it up to having already disabled it myself. This was not the case last night. Huge safety hazard. Needs addressing.
All systems warning lights pop up on starting the car. I came home parked the car and started it 10 minutes later and all systems warning lights came on. Power steering, parking brake, brake failure, collision mitigation system, tpms, lane departure system, traction control system, hill assist system, abs system . All these warnings show up on the dash.

Tl the contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated that the emergency brake button failed to operate. When the button was pressed, the brakes did not hold. On one occasion, the contact pressed the emergency brake button and the vehicle rolled backwards. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,627.
The vehicle was in motion on the highway and the brakes failed to apply as expected. This resulted in a rear end collision that fortunately didn't have any fatalities. The airbags also didn't deploy during the collision. The brake pedal was pressed all the way to the floor, but instead of a response back and pressure coming back from the braking system, the braking pedal felt loose and the car instead of coming to a stop, continued to slowly decelerate. I've been driving the car for 2 years and my expectation was that the car should have come to a complete stop instead of just slowing down within the distance between my car and the car in front. There were also no skid marks on the pavement. I suspect the brakes failed and have contacted the manufacturer, the dealership and the insurance company in trying to get this looked into by someone that can come up with a report on the status of the brakes. Unfortunately nobody cared so far, so as a last resource I'm reaching out to NHTSA for possible guidance or even a braking system car inspection.

When the vehicle was started, a "brake system failure" warning message appeared. The vehicle was towed to autonation Honda thornton road (located at 1979 thornton rd, lithia springs, GA 30122, (770) 674-6078) where it was diagnosed that the brake software needed to be updated. The software was updated; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

I purchased a used 2013 Civic sedan from a private seller on March 23rd 2018. The day I bought it, as I was pulling out of the parking lot of the credit union where I met the seller the power steering failed. A yellow warning light that looks like a steering wheel with an exclamation point came on on the dash, and it was very difficult to steer the vehicle. I put it in park, hit the hazards and turned the vehicle off for fear of hitting someone. I contacted the sellers and they came back. We discussed having it towed to the shop, and the previous owner got in it, to re-park it somewhere more out of the way while we waited for aaa. At this time, the car started up fine, no warning light was present and he was able to safely drive it into a parking spot. He suggested that he just drive it to the shop, and I ride over there with his wife. So we did, and they hooked it up to the computer at the shop, and informed me that it didn't throw any codes, and that "the computer doesn't lie" they told me that since it drove over there fine, to just take it home, and don't worry about it. So I did, and I drove it around for a couple weeks until on the 5th of April, again pulling out of a parking space it happened again, yellow steering wheel light and all. Except this time the brakes failed too. Not only could I not steer, I could not stop. I ended up dragging the front end over a flowerbed with a curb, and ripping off the bumper. The car was under warranty and is now at a Honda dealership awaiting repairs pending processing of warranty paperwork. Thankfully nobody was hurt in either of these incidents, but it could've easily been different. These power steering failures are know to, and were investigated by the NHTSA in 2013. No recall was issued. I know that this has happened to other people. I believe that this is a serious safety issue and a recall should be reconsidered.

Electronic braking failure and miscellaneous electric glitches. Automatic parking brake system failure warning light and brakes are locked in park. I have had 3 different electric glitches. First less than 2 weeks of purchasing my 2017 Civic turn signal was stuck on and would not turn off. Second 1 month after dash screen would not load. It was "buffering / thinking" took it to and dealer couldn't find the cause but fixed with a hard reset and it started working again and checked for software updates and it was current. Third problem a 2 weeks later, started the car and got brake failure warning light and check engine light. Car wouldn't move parking brakes locked up. Tried to push the brake hold and parking brake to manually disengage but wouldn't. Had it towed to the Honda dealership. They did a second hard reset. I question if my Civic was part of the 2016 / partial 2017 recall for electric glitch that included the parking brake issue.
I was left stranded three times today in my 2017 Honda Civic ex-t due to the electric parking brake failure. My vehicle was parked in a parking lot and I couldn't go anywhere. I wasn't close to home. I was in another state.
The brakes have failed on this car twice. We were fortunate that both times were in a parking lot and my daughter was able to stop the car with the emergency brake. At the same time the brakes went out the power steering went out as well and she had great difficulty turning the car as well as stopping it. The vehicle was stationary at the time, she was attempting to back out of a parking place one time and the second time was able to let the car roll forward in to an empty parking spot where she pulled the emergency brake.

The Honda Civic was in the driveway with the emergency brake set when it was parked. The vehicle has a manual transmission. A few hours later the car alarm was going off and when I went to look to see what was going on I discovered that the car had rolled down the drive and into a telephone pole. The police in my jurisdiction do not take accident reports for accidents on private property therefore a police report was not taken. After the incident I found that there was a active recall involving the emergency brake. When I bought the car on October 8, 2016 I was told there was a "do not sell" note in the computer system due to the recall. The dealer said they could do the download while we did the paperwork. After this incident involving the wreck the car was taken to a local dealer who checked the download and confirmed that the download was up to date. The car was taken back to the dealer two days later to have the brake system inspected which the dealer stated that there were no codes found in the system. This was done at the advice of Honda customer service. Honda customer service contacted me today and stated that at this time they recommend proceeding with an insurance claim. I stated that I thought that since there was an active recall and the recall had been performed on the vehicle and the emergency brake still failed that they would want to take the car to look at. I was told that they would look at the dealer reports and if they found something they would contact me back which seems dangerous to me. What's to say the brake won't fail again and next time there may be someone behind it or in front of it.

The electric emergency brake failed. The car was parked, ignition turned off, emergency brake applied, and left the vehicle. When I returned, the car had rolled backwards down a road and slammed into another parked car causing damage to both vehicles. No injuries related to the accident. Police report is not available yet. We found about the recall that was issued in mid-October but we have not been notified/contacted yet.

Electronic brake failure - turned vehicle on in driveway, brakes locked. Car towed. Honda has a work around process to avoid this. I read posts that this occurred to people while driving on highway. I do not feel safe in this car. Honda does not have a fix for this problem.

I recently purchased a 2016 Honda Civic ex, four door. I was driving to work yesterday morning at 5 am. I had approached apx 56 mph and the vehicle stopped accelerating, across the dashboard screen was a blinking red stating, brake system failure. ! keep in mind, this vehicle is brand new I have less than 5,000 miles on it ! at the time of the screen on the dash blinking what seemed to have been an emergency brake deployed as I was decelerating causing me to come to a stop in the middle of the highway! lucky for me there was no one behind me, because it would have turned fatal. I pulled over on the side of the highway to try and relax. I turned the car off. Turned it back on the brake system was still blinking saying failure. I turned it off again and back on and the light had stopped blinking. I attempted to drive and I did, just thinking it was a freak thing. On my way into boston, the dash lit up again with the same message. When I was safe in a parking lot I called Honda and had my car towed, at this point I no longer felt safe driving my vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the closest Honda dealership in boston. As of yet, they have not decided what is wrong with it. If I get updates I will update them. The last I heard is that the electronic brake system module had failed. How can this be , when the car is new ? how can I have faith driving my vehicle , that this won't happen when I am in traffic and cause a serious wreck? dealing with Honda corporate has been an absolute nightmare! four hours worth of phone calls for them to secure me in a rental so I am safe driving. This is crazy! I am saddened. How can a brand new car have a failure with the brake system ?.

I had a car accident on the huntingdon side of pine groves mountain on PA 26 south. I drove a Honda Civic 06 lx. When I was going down the mountain, I applied the brake normally to slow down before a curve when the speed was at 60 mph, but my car was drifting, not like hydroplaning at all. There was no water to cause that but it rained five to six hours before the accident. During the whole course of incident, the steering wheel was not responsive. When it started to drift, it skidded towards the incoming lane. I tried to correct the steering wheel slightly, it took much more force to operate the steering wheel and the direction was not corrected, so I adjusted it more. Then the head suddenly turned 60 to 80 degrees and hit the guardrail and then the car turned more than 180 degrees clockwise; then the tail hit a stop-sign pole and the car stopped in the mud. Since the car was still drivable, I did not call the police to check the scene. I think it was caused by Honda's design defects since I had goodyear four-season tires with more than enough grids, so I want to hire an investigator to investigate my case and ask Honda to buy the car back. But none of the law firms I contacted could help me. During the whole course, there was no car coming in both directions. Two cars passed me by when I was pulling my car out of mud but none of them stopped, so I guess there was no witness. The first time when I applied the brake again after the incident, I felt the brake was flimsy, so I drove much slower later, at around 40 mph. I am not sure if the brake could handle that wet road again, but most of time at most places the brake does not fail, so I assume I experienced a case, on wet road with downhill gravity, that the car is incapable of handling.

I live on a main road, so I was thankful that there was no heavy traffic at the time, that it luckily was minor, and no one was injured, however, this has the potential to cause fatality. As I was driving out of my driveway and turning right out onto the road, the steering wheel stuck in the turning right position and both steering and brakes failed to work causing me to crash into a parked car. I am not sure why the steering and brakes both failed like this? strangely, my car was driving fine after the incident as the police officer pulled it to the side of the road. It is smashed up and needs body work and possibly mechanical work. I did have it towed to the dealership, as I did not trust driving it after this happened, and I am not sure I will ever feel safe in this car. Currently, my insurance is taking care of it, but this was a malfunction on Honda's part and should be dealt with by Honda on all fronts, cosmetically, mechanically, financially, and most importantly so that this doesn't happen to someone else or me again. Otherwise, there is no justice or protection for the consumer! this could have potentially been and could be life threatening.

On 03-16-2013 I was driving on I-5 freeway north through orange county CA. When I tried to slow down, my car`s brakes were not working at all. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor without any resistance and the car didn't slow down. I was able to stop the car by hitting the curb. There were no dashboard warning lights lit at any time indicating total brake failure. I had car towed to nearest Honda dealership. They told me I must have driven over a piece of rubber debris. This piece of rubber damaged right wheel emergency brake cable, causing right rear wheel to drag and boil the brake fluid, thus causing total brake failure without any warning at all. I found out both rear brakes were damaged, even though only the right emergency brake cable was damaged. I had to pay$1300 for repairs even though the car was under full factory warranty. I contacted american Honda motor CO and asked for an explanation how is the brake system on 2011 Honda Civic designed if a total brake failure can be caused by a piece of rubber debris. I also wanted to know, how a total brake failure can happen without any warning. My other question was what America Honda motor CO. Will do to prevent this from happening again on mine and other 2011 Civic models. Honda representative refused to answer any of my questions. She stated that since there was not any accident, everything is fine with them. This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have ended tragically and would appreciate you to investigate and follow up on it.

The front brakes on my Honda Civic had to be replaced the first time at 17,000 miles. It had failed right at the end of the Honda 1 year warranty (the first date is estimated but I can dig it out from the Honda dealer if this becomes an issue) I have only the estimated first date. I thought this was a fluke and Honda covered it under warranty so I didn't thinlk much about it. However, my next set of brakes failed at 15,000 miles. The actual date was 7/8/2013 on this failure. Again they have warantied the brakes. I am on my 3rd set of brakes and the car has not even hit 40-50,000 miles. That is if my brakes were being ridden hard. At some point I am concerned that Honda will not fix the problem that appears to be well known. They have a problem with their braking system on the Honda Civics. It appears they are not recalling this and are leaving people twisting in the wind. I don't know of a more critical component to a vehiclles safety than the braking system. It can harm both driver, pedestrian or other motorists and cause a financial calamity to both driver and other parties. Please make Honda figure out this problem and provide a solution so that we can drive a safe car. There is a lawsuit for this known problem with Honda, I prefer not to get involved into this but rather have them fix this problem. Other than that it has been a good vehicle. I am not looking for a financial reward I just want my car fixed and properly engineered so that the brakes won't fail prematurely. It can be costly if I have to replace my brakes once a year.
I heard a squealing metal on metal noise on my Honda Civic, and so took it to the dealer to get it serviced - the mechanic who helped me told me it would probably be under warranty. They discovered the front brakes needed replacing --- at 19,800 miles. Honda refuses to cover them because they are under the "wear and tear" clause of the warranty --- but the brakes failed at 19,800 miles. Unacceptable. When I contacted Honda about the problem, they were cold hearted, the operator was clearly in india and didn't understand the severity of the issue - I will never own a Honda again.
I purchased the vehicle used from a reputable dealer in 2011. Within the first 30 days I experienced brake failure and a grinding sound when braking. The dealer was unable to identify the problem. I sent a formal complaint to the Honda ceo and subsequently the car was inspected at a local dealership. Brakes slip when riding on rough surfaces or making a sharp turn on a steep incline. The car was inspected on two separate occasions and the problem could not be replicated; however, the brake problem persists. Once I almost hit another vehicle on a highway when the car in front of me suddenly stopped; I also failed to stop at a stop sign and rolled into the intersection. Fortunately no other vehicles were on the road. If the brakes are hit twice (like double clutching) they do engage. The complaint to Honda failed to produce a positive result. The problem initially began in October 2011 and continues to occur intermittently.
When applying the brakes and the vehicle hits a bump or rough patch on the road, the brakes fail almost entirely. As a reactionary measure, I usually release and re-apply the brakes and then it works but there have been times where I apply the brakes as hard as I can without letting up because I'm about to read end the vehicle in front of me. In total since purchasing the car brand new, I'd say this happend over 30 times since September 2009.
Brakes fail on rough or bumpy roads. It feels very unsafe. This happens every time the road is rough, bumpy or is lined as in new paving. The brakes will not stop car appropriately. Today I went 4 feet past the stop sign on a new lined road.
