5 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/18/2020

I just bought this car 7 month ago and replaced brakes, rotors, a tire, repaired a broken lugnut, and now the engine has overheated and blown and is evidently not covered under the previous warranty because it is past expiration (year and mileage). Putting a used engine into the vehicle is not going to solve the problem, and my dealership is not willing to put a new one in. When it began overheating, I had just pulled onto the highway (average speed of about 50) and noticed that my heat wasn't working (which was weird since I had replaced the thermostat already a few weeks prior) and then the car read as hot as possible. When I safely pulled over, there was smoke coming from under the hood and it was towed to a reliable mechanic who said it was the coolant leaking from the engine block, but was not part of the warranty anymore.

10 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/10/2020

My aunt, purchased this car in 2007. She died in 2015 and our mother purchased the car from the estate. After the purchase we saw the re-call and 10 year extended warrantee on the car because of "engine block cracking". We took the car to a dealer who said that since there was no coolant leaking, there was no crack in the block and he could not fix a car that was not in need of repair. The care had 70,000 miles on it at the time. My mom died this February and we again purchased the car from the estate. It had 75,000 miles on it. Last week, the engine block started leaking and it was diagnosed with an engine block crack, and that there was nothing we could do about it because it had exceeded the 10 year warrantee, even though the car only had 79,000 miles on it. Honda should have made a 10 year and 100,000 mile extension. We were penalized because we are low mileage drivers. This is very unfair and should consider a class action law suite. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, donald whitcomb, 1728 old generals hwy, annapolis, MD 21401, 443-336-2546.

11 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Per Honda TSB 10-048 engine block leaking coolant, past 10 year extended warranty.

12 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/22/2020

This 2006 Honda Civic has less than 70k miles on it. On February 22, 2020, my family drove about 8 miles on the highway and noticed a smell of anti-freeze. When we reached our destination, we checked the engine and saw fluid leaking on the engine block. There were no indicator lights on the dash so we drove another 8 miles on the highway to take the car back home. When we parked it in the garage, coolant completely emptied onto the garage floor from a cracked engine block. While we feel thankful we were able to get home safely, this could have been an extremely dangerous failure in the engine had we been driving a longer distance. From what I've read on the internet, 2006 Honda Civics have recognized issues with cracked engine blocks. The common failure in these engines should warrant some type of recall as these cars shouldn't be allowed on the roadways. The failure in the engine occurred without warning and as mentioned previously, there were no indicator lights on the dash. The possibility of the engine seizing while driving at high speeds is incredibly high and poses a significant risk to the driver, passengers, and other people on the roadways. I'm urging NHTSA to take the proper actions so Honda will remedy this situation and prevent potential catastrophic failures related to the faulty engine blocks in these Honda Civics.

13 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/21/2020

The cars coolant and oil kept mixing and the coolant would quickly deplete and leak out of the bottom of the car, the engine would also heat to the maximum temp on the engine if I did not constantly fill my coolant. I went to discount tire to get this checked out and it was a cracked engine block, I found out there were recalls for this exact year and issue but my VIN was not included for some reason! I fear one day my car will blow up on me and Honda should correct this problem free of charge.

14 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

The vehicle has developed a coolant leak due to a cracked engine block. This vehicle can no longer be driven and while it is in otherwise excellent condition, repairs are economically unfeasible. This is a 2007 Honda Civic ex with the r18 engine. It has a clean title and I am the first and only owner. There have been a significant number of similar failures in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 model year Honda Civics with this engine due to bad metallurgy and weak casting during the manufacturing process. Honda knows that these are defective engines as they created technical service bulletin 10-048 in response to these failures. They did not however issue a recall. I believe this is a safety issue, because this failure could occur in highway driving causing the engine to overheat and seize and the driver could therefore potentially be unable to leave the active traffic lanes. Regardless, even if the driver could make it to the shoulder, that is not a safe environment. I noticed this problem when the vehicle was in motion just after exiting the highway. There are many examples of similar failures on various owner group websites.

15 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

16 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2008 Honda Civic

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Honda Civic. While driving the vehicle, smoke appeared and coolant leaked. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for inspection and found that the engine block failed. The contact stated that the manufacturer provided and extended warranty for the engine block failure. The manufacturer also advised that the contact should have received a letter for the warranted repair, which was for two years. The manufacturer provided case number: 10080302. The vehicle was towed to paragon Honda (5702 northern boulevard, woodside, NY 11377, (877) 343-9132) where it was confirmed that the engine block fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,230.

17 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

As many of the other people, I have a leaking coolant crack in the engine block due to poor casting, thus resulting in the car to dangerously overheat. I have visited a local mechanic and they have confirmed it is a faulty problem among many Civics manufactured that generation. The problem others and I encounter is the fact that the car exceeds the 10 year warranty. To make the dilema worse, the Honda manufacturing company does guarantee full recompensation. They suggest for one to go in for $100 + inspection that does not completely guarantee aid. The problems I encounter include: an ongoing leak of dangerous coolant liquids while driving/parked, excessive overheating of the engine while driving, and the tear down of parts(coils, cylinders, and spark plugs) due to unstable/worrisome high temperatures. I have overlooked many forums and threads of unhappy Honda drivers that are encountering the same problem as I have. The number of complaints found here have increased significantly in recent days. I plead/beg for your assistance! many of the people encountering this problem are of low income, few of which cannot afford repair costs and/or purchasing a new vehicle; we purchase these type of cars for their so-called reliability. In my case, I am a university student who vitally needs a source of transportation. One may argue that public transportation is the solution, but that limits my possibility frontier as I also have to work; public transportation costs time one could be using elsewhere. Truth of the matter is that this defect is potentially dangerous to the public. There is high correlation between engine overheating and accidents that are worrisome.

18 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 10/15/2019

I was driving on a highway and I noticed coolant leakage resulting in engine overheating.

19 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/19/2019

Engine leaking coolant Honda dealer said block it cracked. Found out later that this is a common problem with 2006 to 2009. Honda dealer nor Honda corp ever notified me. They knowingly sold and serviced my car just running out the clock. I have been riding Honda's before I was driving them going back the the 60's. I have two Honda cars in the driveway now. My complaint is more the the company and dealer then with the product. I could not sell this car to anybody now nor should have you. I still believe you make a dependable and durable product but am no longer a one stop shopper.

21 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/17/2019

While driving I came to a stop sign. Smelled antifreeze and saw that my temperature gauge was high. I pulled over and the car was overheating. I had the car towed to shop to find out that there was a crack in my engine block. I have never had any issues with this car. No coolant leaks or low coolant observed. Just had oil change the week before and mechanic said that everything looked fine. I have maintained the car regularly. After researching this issue I found that Honda has know about this since 2013. I never received a notice or was made aware of this. I have had the car to a Honda dealer for recall on airbags and sun visor and no one ever mentioned anything about a crack in the engine block. Honda said they will not pay for repair because warranty has expired. I wasn't even aware of this warranty and have not had any issues with coolant leak or overheating to even cause concern. They are putting a rebuild engine in at my expense over $3000. I have no other choice. I need a car to get to work.

28 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/21/2019

March 21, 2019 found coolant leak on driveway coming from 2006 Honda Civic. The vehicle has cracked engine block & leaking coolant. Vehicle has only 54,000 miles, well kept and maintained. Discovered that there was a extended warranty issued in 2013 & again in 2015 for this problem. Warranty is for 10 years from date of purchase. No such warranty or notice made it to owners address. No news articles were made public about this issue. Brought car to dealership and contacted Honda America to request assistance due to out of warranty of the vehicle. Failure Date: 01/10/2019

Was the proud owner of a Honda Civic(2008) until recently. In January 2019, my Honda unexpectedly started overheating when I was waiting in line in mcdonalds. The overheating occured very fast and I I quickly pulled over and towed the vehicle to nearest Honda dealer (Honda of nanuet). I learned the next day that the car had suffered a engine coolant leak which had the made the vehicle inoperable. I found out that this was a manufacturing defect in the engine block (https://Honda. Oemdtc. Com/340/warranty-extension-engine-block-2006-2009-Honda-civic) which is a known defect on 2006-2009 Honda Civics. My cars situation is sad because it is over the 10 year warranty but has very low miles on it for a car of its age. . Read more...

34 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

The vehicle unpredictably leaked coolant and the engine block is now cracked. The car is useless. Had to tow it 100 miles only to be told by Honda that this is my problem. It is now out of the 10 year extended warranty even though it has less than 100,000 miles on the car. This is a know problem with this make and model which is why Honda extended the warranty. It should have been an outright recall - they will not do anything about it despite their faulty manufacturing.
