The 10th generation Honda Civic's have multiple extended warranties from Honda for bad air compressors and condensers. And the a/c evaporator needs to be included in this. My car only has 60,000 miles on it, is not driven daily, and my a/c evaporator is leaking freon due to a bad part. The parts for these a/c systems were designed poorly and degrade too quickly.

The head gasket failed on my 2017 Honda Civic after 110,000 miles I had the Honda dealership of decatur fix the head gasket and it failed again after 36,000 miles this appears to be a massive issue Honda is having with these cars. And mine and other’s safety were put into risk because the car went into limp mode while I was driving on the interstate and yes the dealership confirmed that the head gasket has failed again after replacement and no it has not been inspected by anyone yet and no there was no warning of it failing before the car went into limp mode while I was doing highway speeds.
The 2022 Honda Civic (sport) with approx. 13,000 miles had been driving fine for the previous 10 minutes, on and off the highway, when I was almost home and on a more residential 25-30mph road. All of a sudden all of the warning lights went off on the dashboard at once, so I went to brake to slow down and pull over. But the brakes were completely failing - the pedal would just hit the back of the foot well. The emergency brake is electronic, so that wouldn't work either. I was lucky to be immediately next to a grocery store parking lot, so I roll into that. As soon as I make the turn flames began shooting out from under the hood, reaching maybe 6" up the windshield. This is only 5 or 6 seconds after the warning lights had started, and it was clear that the fire inside of the engine bay was substantial. I managed to coast to the back of the parking lot, away from other cars and people, and found a curb "island" that I could run into in order to stop the vehicle. I effectively crashed the car, and at this point the flames had increased. I ran out of the vehicle and shouted for people to call 911. Within a minute the entire front half of the car was engulfed in 10+ foot flames. The fire department showed up a minute later and put out the fire, and after only maybe 3 minutes maximum the only things left in the car were metal and wires. The dashboard was entirely gone, seats were just their metal frames, etc. If the door had been jammed I would have burned alive.

I bought my 2026 Honda Civic a month ago and hadn't driven it very far. At a stoplight, the car stalled and various warning lights came on--for the brake, the cpu, and then almost all the warning lights came on. I was stranded at a light and afraid for my life and the safety of th other motorists. After numerous attempts, I got the car started again, but it stalled twice again on the way to the dealership. The problem was inspected by the Honda dealership, who claim that the ordeal was because of a "puncture" in the radiator which was caused by a road event, and which somehow overwhelmed the cpu. I have tried to take this up with the dealer and Honda corporate, but see no other recourse for letting them know the danger I was put in. As for the "road event," neither myself or anyone else in the car remembers encountering or hearing or experiencing anything resembling an event that could have ruptured the radiator.
The engine in my Honda Civic si failed prematurely at 28,677 miles while the vehicle was still within Honda’s 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Honda and the dealership denied warranty coverage based on a recorded engine overspeed event of 6,900 rpm that occurred earlier at 19,259 miles. The engine’s rev limiter is 6,600 rpm, meaning the recorded event exceeded the limiter by only 300 rpm. After this recorded event, the vehicle continued to operate normally for approximately 9,400 additional miles with no warning lights, drivability issues, or indication of engine damage. The engine failure occurred suddenly at low mileage without prior symptoms. Honda has not provided clear technical evidence demonstrating how a minor overspeed event of this magnitude, occurring thousands of miles earlier, directly caused the engine failure. This raises concerns about premature engine failure, possible engine defects, and the reliability and durability of the Honda Civic si 1. 5t engine. It also raises concerns about manufacturers denying warranty coverage for failures without clear causal evidence. This failure resulted in loss of vehicle function and significant financial burden. The vehicle has been properly maintained and was operated under normal driving conditions. I am submitting this complaint because premature engine failure at such low mileage may indicate a defect affecting engine durability, safety, and reliability.

Engine temperature suddenly rose high, pulled over. Discovered what appeared to be coolant on front of block. Had diagnosed and found to have a cracked block. Contacted Honda, the refused to do anything as it wasn’t a recall only a warranty bulletin. This needs to be recalled so people who are affected can get their cars fixed.

The head gasket was failing and the spark plugs were enduring spark blowout and the car was misfiring occasionally I tried entering the highway and as I was merging to the highway and getting up to speed the car suddenly starting flashing the check engine light and wouldn’t accelerate anymore when I gave it gas as I was entering the highway and a big truck towing vehicles was coming so I had to get to the emergency lane and stop the vehicle and the trucker had to slam on his brakes when my car was supposed to accelerate it completely shut down and started slowing down. Causing a dangerous situation.
•I am an indiana resident. •I purchased a vehicle from a private seller in ohio (seller operates through an llc) on 1/16/2026 •fraudulent title activity was discovered by mechanic on 1/26/26 (taken to mechanic due to sudden and unexpected issues) •the purchase agreement and price ($9,000) were confirmed via text message; there was no written bill of sale and no “as-is” agreement. •prior to purchase, the seller provided a VIN that belonged to a different vehicle than the one sold. •after purchase, I discovered the vehicle has evidence of odometer rollback; the ohio title indicates “odometer inaccurate,” which was not disclosed prior to sale. •the vehicle was previously salvage titled and originated from canada, neither of which were disclosed. •the ohio title lists an incorrect purchase price of $4,000, despite the agreed purchase price of $9,000. •title was sold under dealer name permit number xxx •the vehicle was shown and represented as being in “great condition”; however, shortly after purchase, a licensed mechanic determined the vehicle requires a replacement engine, battery, and additional major mechanical repairs, rendering it unsafe and not drivable. Files attached support all of the above. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Clutch began to slip at 20,000 miles. This caused unrepairable damage to the flywheel. This put my safety at risk as clutches wearing out could cause the car to slip out of gear and/or damage the maneuverability of the vehicle. This problem was fixed by the dealer, but they blamed me for the damage and claimed clutch is a wear component. I was charged $3,000 for the clutch and an additional $2,000 for the flywheel. I have seen many reports online of people with the same car (2023 Civic sport touring manual) with the same issues. All people have been ignored by Honda corporate, citing user error. This has not been inspected by the manufacturerer as I am aware no messages of the problem, other than the cruise control stopping under load.

The contact owns a 2021 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving approximately 37 mph, the vehicle stalled. The check engine, master cylinder, and adaptive cruise control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake master cylinder, fuel pump, and ignition coils needed to be replaced. The contact researched and was made aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

I was driving on a very busy road and the car completely died and would not go into park. It was like the battery was not even there. The steering wheel locked up, hazards would not come on and all the doors locked and would not unlock. There was no power to the car whatsoever. The drivers side door had to be pried open from the outside so I could get out of the car. We had the battery tested and is tested completely fine. The car has done this three times now.
See attached document for complaint.
Vehicle experienced sudden and complete loss of engine power while driving in active nyc traffic. Without any warning lights or prior symptoms, the engine shut off mid-motion, the accelerator became unresponsive, and the car stopped moving in the middle of a busy roadway. I lost all propulsion and had to activate hazard lights while stuck in live traffic. This created a severe safety hazard for me and surrounding vehicles. The vehicle could not be safely moved, and no police or roadside support was able to reach me for over an hour. This incident placed me at high risk of being struck by oncoming traffic. This is the second major failure with this vehicle. On day 2 of my lease, the car experienced multiple system malfunctions related to an open recall, causing the vehicle to fail on the highway. That recall repair did not prevent this new failure. After this most recent incident, aaa diagnostics showed the vehicle was not drivable, and the dealership later informed me that the failure involves a deeper fuel system/high-pressure pump issue. They stated there is no guarantee the vehicle will operate normally even after repair, yet on 12/10/25 they attempted to return the car to me and told me to continue driving it despite knowing the defect is safety-related. As of today, I have been without a safe vehicle for over 10 days, and neither the dealership nor Honda corporate has provided a loaner or safe transportation. My initial safety case with Honda was also prematurely closed without my knowledge, and multiple attempts to escalate to a supervisor were unsuccessful or delayed. A vehicle that stalls without warning at speed is an extreme safety hazard, and this defect remains unresolved. I am reporting this because the vehicle has failed twice under dangerous conditions, and the manufacturer has not ensured that the vehicle is safe to operate.

The engine and electrical/power train system malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to stall, shut off, and shake without warning. The failure results in complete loss of power and inability to move the vehicle. This defect has occurred multiple times and has been inspected by the dealership over five occasions, but the problem has not been fixed.
I was driving 35 mph toward a busy intersection when I lost my brakes and power. A service message “ima check systems” light lit up on the dash. I lost brakes and power while entering an intersection putting myself and other drivers in danger of an accident narrowly missing a container truck. The car shut off with my front end in the intersection. I was able to restart the car and drive it to the nearest garage. They connected the code machine to the vehicle showing “p1437. ” I then had my car towed to the nearest Honda dealership. They told me my VIN was not listed under service bulletin 20-030 even though my car fit all of the parameters and showed the same code(s). After giving me a quote of $1900+ to fix the issue, they are claiming to have fixed the problem but I am questioning if the real issues were fixed and if I am responsible for any costs.

Civic developed a misfire. Diagnosis at the Honda service center revealed a leaking #2 fuel injector causing fuel wash-down into cylinder #2. This led to fouled & broken spark plugs in cylinders 2 and 3, blown head gasket, scored cylinder wall in cylinder #2, hairline crack in cylinder head and valve damage. Engine and head have been deemed unsalvageable by the Honda service center. Honda has indicated this vehicle will not be covered under TSB a18-025 and warranty extension 21-010 despite being the same engine family (l15b7/l15ca) used in 2016-2021 Civics that were completely covered.
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the electronic power steering, evaporative emission control system, check engine, and antilock braking system lights were illuminated; however, the contact had not experienced any failures or malfunctions while operating the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,192.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly came to a stop. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to exceed 35 mph, and the contact pulled over. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a transmission center, and it was determined that the failure was linked to the cvt and pulley system. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The hybrid motor DC to DC convert failed. When this fails it stops providing 12 v power to the rest of the vehicle resulting in multiple systems stopping or working very slowly. This vehicle does not have a traditional alternator. There was a TSB and an extended warranty offered to some models, but not all included in the VIN range for this vehicle. The vehicle was scanned and pulls the same codes as the TSB notes as the issue.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while the vehicle was running with the a/c unit activated, there was an abnormal odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. Additionally, while the a/c unit was activated, only hot air was coming from the vents. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the a/c evaporator needed to be replaced because of leaks in three places. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
I received an email from Honda regarding a safety recall, stating that the defective part is now available. However, when I called different Honda dealerships, they told me to disregard the notice because the part is not available. If the repair cannot be done, I am concerned why Honda sent the notice in the first place.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2017 Honda Civic hatchback and the dangerous issue related to its air conditioning (a/c) system — a problem affecting many Civic owners nationwide. I initially brought my vehicle to Honda city chicago for a Honda “campaign” repair (a term they use instead of calling it a recall) in 2023 and again this year, related to the a/c system. I was told the issue would be resolved. However, after agreeing to an optional transmission oil change they recommended, I was later told the a/c still wasn’t fixed — and that I now needed to pay $400 for a diagnostic. That diagnostic revealed the actual problem: a locked a/c compressor. (which they knew they just wanted the money) this defect is not just an inconvenience — it’s a serious safety hazard. When the a/c is turned on, the locked compressor causes the engine to shake violently and stall completely. This happened to me at a red light; the car shut off, became unresponsive, and I was stuck blocking traffic. If this had occurred while driving at higher speeds, the consequences could have been catastrophic. Many Civic owners have reported similar compressor failures leading to engine stalls and unsafe driving conditions. Honda is aware of this issue but continues to treat it as isolated rather than a systemic defect. I urge the NHTSA to open a formal investigation into this widespread and dangerous issue involving locked a/c compressors in 2016–2020 Honda Civics. A safety recall is warranted before more drivers are put at risk or harmed due to this known defect.
Component or system failure: the vehicle experienced failures involving the engine/ignition system, emissions system, vehicle stability assist (vsa), and power steering. On July 14, 2025, warning messages appeared for “check emissions system,” “check vsa system,” and “check power steering system. ” diagnostics identified engine misfire code p0304 (cylinder #4). On August 11, 2025, an authorized Honda dealership confirmed a seized spark plug and cylinder head damage, indicating an internal engine defect. The vehicle is currently with the selling dealership and available for inspection. Safety risk: simultaneous failure warnings for emissions, vsa, and power steering created an unsafe driving condition. Impaired stability control and power steering increase the risk of loss of vehicle control during turning or emergency maneuvers. Confirmation of problem: yes. Independent diagnostics confirmed the misfire. The selling dealer attempted repairs between July 22–25, 2025, but the same warnings returned. On August 8, 2025, the dealer admitted it lacked tools and software to diagnose or repair cng vehicles. Honda later confirmed internal engine damage. Inspections: the vehicle was inspected by the selling dealer and an authorized Honda dealership. A third-party warranty administrator authorized a tear-down inspection. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Honda motor CO. Or NHTSA. Prior warnings and recall concern: warnings first appeared on July 14, 2025, about two weeks after purchase, and recurred despite repairs. The 2012 Honda Civic cng has multiple recalls involving engine, fuel, and emissions systems, and these failures are consistent with known defect patterns, warranting further investigation.

- what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? my 2006 Honda Civic engine overheated. Upon diagnosis it was found that radiator coolant had leaked out due to cracks in the engine block (short block). Engine malfunction. - how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? my teenage son drives this car and initially he did not notice coolant leak. Engine can stop working while driving on a freeway (seized engine) which is a very serious safety risk. - has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, local Honda dealer confirmed the problem and pointed me to a service bulletin 10-048 from american Honda (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2017/mc-10115157-9999. Pdf) that noted this exact manufacturing defect. American Honda had provided extended warranty to allay customer fears at the time but without a recall. - has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? it was inspected by a Honda dealer, tracy Honda at California. It was also inspected by another local auto shop and had the same finding. I am attaching those documents. - were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warning signs. The issue was first observed on June 29, 2025.
On over a dozen occasions my vehicle’s check engine light randomly comes on and then my car stalls out while driving and begins decelerating quickly. It is very dangerous and scary when this has happened on the freeway or in places where there is nowhere to pull off the road. My Honda Civic is less than 2 years old and has already been in the service department at Honda for a combined total of more than 30 days. Honda keeps trying to replace things but the issue keeps happening and they haven’t been able to properly diagnose or fix the problem. It is unsafe to drive this car and Honda has been unable to fix it. I bought this car brand new with 0 miles and the issues started early on before I reached 20,000 miles. I attached one of the most recent invoices from Honda where they noted the fuel injectors failing and codes of misfires in all cylinders. They most recently tried replacing the fuel injector but it still hasn’t fixed the problem. This car is unsafe to drive and has been in the shop multiple times for more than 30 days for the same issue that they can’t seem to fix.
- the engine failed. The engine block warped and both had to be replaced. I have pictures from the dealer. The cost was $8,194. 56 at the dealer for a replacement engine with 89k miles on it. - my son's safety was put at risk because he is in a rural area. Every warning lamp on the dashboard turned on after indy Honda replaced the coolant (maintenance minder a125). Then the lights would turn off. Then andy mohr Honda inspected it (for the first time) and their diagnosis was a pvc pipe crack. We paid for that repair. The second time was the head gasket and the engine was destroyed. - the problem was confirmed by andy mohr Honda and indy Honda in the state of indiana. Andy mohr confirmed the turbo engine for the Honda Civic has a known issue and than we should have purchased the 2. 0 liter instead of the 1. 5 liter because of the load the turbo puts on the engine. American Honda motor CO. , inc disagrees and stated there was no issue. - the vehicle was inspected by the manufacturer via pictures taken at andy mohr Honda. - prior to the coolant service in June 2025 there were no warning lamps. There were no symptoms. The Civic has only been maintained by Honda dealers. The first time (approximate date) we noticed the issue: June 23. My son videoed it. Please note the text from andy mohr Honda stating the engine was overheated. The coolant was replaced by indy Honda a week prior to the overheating. It should not have occurred. This is the link to the engine replacement invoice: https://dealer. Reyrey. While driving the dash showed a "12 volt battery charging system problem. " continued to drive to a safe location roughly a mile down the road and while enroute all the error lights illuminated and proceeded to state "tire pressure monitor problem" "brake system problem" "brake hold system problem" "power steering problem" and a couple others I don't recall. I lost my power steering while driving and my wipers proceeded to stop working, in a downpour. Contacted aaa who came and ran diagnostics which showed the alternator was dead. I then had to have my vehicle towed instead of driving it to work.
I brought my car to the dealership Honda north at 382 newbury street in danvers MA on 6/5/25 to repair NHTSA recall number 23v-858. The vehicle was returned to me on 6/7/25 at which time I was told the interior would have a strong fuel smell for 1-2 days, but that would disappear. After 4 days, the fuel smell worsened and the "check engine" light had come on. On 6/11/25 I returned the vehicle to Honda north. When I picked up the vehicle several days later, the fuel odor was minimal, and the check engine light was off. Today [xxx], the check engine light is back on. I plan to call Honda north to schedule what will be my 3rd visit to Honda north for this safety recall repair, which clearly is not being repaired properly, and putting me in further danger of crash or injury.
