1 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/25/2024

I bought my car in sept 2024 through carvana right away I noticed the steering was sticky so I brought it to a dealership in Jan 2025 and when I told him there was something wrong w/ my steering that it would kind of stick when turning he said it was a recall and they would fix it for free so they 'fixed' it and after I picked it up it was still doing it, well now I bring it back and they tell me I need a new steering rack, on a 2022 Honda Civic sport, are you serious? and that it will cost $3700. 00. So the dealership did confirm I need a new steering rack, the steering always stuck since I bought it I didnt notice it when I first drove it because it starts after the car is warmed up like the first 10 or 15 miles its ok then it starts sticking. I had just read on a social media platform that quite a few people have had this same problem and they said they filed a complaint w/NHTSA and you guys were doing an investigation so I thought I would file a complaint as well.

2 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2022 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 12/16/2022

I have a 2022 Honda Civic sedan. Estimated mileage is around 36k. I have taken the car into the shop around 32k, and reported that the steering is sticky and when driving straight, it like locks and you have to jerk the the wheel to get it. The problem is getting worse, and making the steering unmanageable at times. I have reported this issue several times, and the dealership said they will not do anything until the car throws a code. This is a steering issue, I do not think that it will throw a code. I have children, and we are starting to feel unsafe in this car. I need this issue fixed, and since the dealership is not willing to help me, I cam to NHTSA. I follow an online forum for 11th generation Honda Civic and there are many complaints about sticky steering in these cars, but no one is addressing the issue. Also, we found that migliaccio & rathod llp is currenlty investigating the 2022 Honda Civic steering defect. They say that 2022 Honda Civic owners report that the steering in their vehicles feels sticky at highway speeds and makes it difficult to turn the wheel, even in city driving. Can NHTSA please help us in getting this issue fixed. We pay for these brand new cars not to have defects that the dealerships will not fix. Like I said, I have children, and it is getting unsafe to drive this vehicle. Please contact me if there is anything that we can do to resolve this issue. Thank you.

3 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2020 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

The steering is very sticky. It catches mostly to the left and will hold its position taking you into other lane unless you yank it back. It started only at high speeds now it does it all the time. Car seems to pull to left if you have hand on wheel but goes straight if you let go. It will catch and dart sharply in and out of lanes with the slightest move. Not enjoyable driving at all. Theres been no warning lights of any kind. I got car at 45000 miles and this started at 50000. Dont know if its rack or steering motor but it needs to be recalled. Causes extremly eratic driving. So days its almost undrivable.

6 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/12/2020

The steering is sticking. When driving and attempting to make miniscule road adjustments, the steering sticks and to correct, the wheel makes a jerk which is very unsafe. This problem occurs all of the time, which includes any speed. This sticking of the wheel problem has been going on for a bit over a year. I took it to Honda about 1 year ago and they claimed nothing was wrong. The problem persists and now I am hearing ticking noises when making normal road adjustments as well as turning. Again, I am very frightened for my safety. As documentation from many 2016 Honda Civic owners is easily available through various online forums, I am suspecting this to be a major engineering defect that Honda needs to be responsible for resolving.

7 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2017 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

While driving highway / interstate. Steering will make a sudden pull/jerk to the left or right causing to overcompensate. It feels as if the steering wheel is sticking/catching. It is not as noticeable when driving in slower in-town driving, but still happens. I researched symptoms online and found that a recall was issued, but my VIN shows no recalls. I do not feel comfortable driving with this happening. I noticed that this started about a month ago. (may,2020) most noticeable when driving 50 mph plus (+).

8 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2012 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 03/23/2020

Started car and check power steering warning came up. There was a slight shutter then steering was hard. Shut car and restarted and warning were gone and steering ok. 1 week later same problem, but will not clear and no power steering. Shut car and restarted, warning still on, but power steering working, but there is a slight noise on and off. Something to do with the electronic power steering.

9 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/20/2019

So I just bought a 2016 Honda Civic lx 2. 0 used today with 26,000 miles. The dealership was a little over an hour away and about 30 minutes into my drive home I noticed the steering felt like it was sticking on the highway at around 65mph. It felt notchy and sticky like I had to use a little force to start being able to steer again. Which causes you to overcorrect a bit. This is a huge safety concern on the highway. I looked it up and there's like thousands of people talking about the exact same problem. . The solution seems to be a new steering rack assembly. . .

10 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2016 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

2016 Honda Civic lx, approximately 20,000 miles has a "sticky" or "notchy" feel to the steering during highway driving. The vehicle drifts slowly to one side of the lane, then when I try to correct back to the middle of the lane, the steering feels sticky and with slightly more effort to nudge it to the middle, it overcorrects slightly and is then drifting to the other side of the lane. This continues back and forth for the duration of the trip. Note that this is subtle and it takes 5-10 seconds for each drift side to side. This has only happened on long highway trips after the car has been running for at least 30 or 45 minutes. I am concerned that this electronic steering problem will cause something will happen where I do not have any control of the steering. I noticed also a possible related problem when at parking speed, if I inch the car while turning and pressing the brake lightly I can feel the steering "twitch" a little.

Failure Date: 03/24/2019

When driving on highway today around 60 mph it felt like the steering was sticking on me. When I would try to correct my steering left or right it would feel stuck for a second then it would go. Seems very dangerous and needs to be a recall on this.
