Letter from congressman king on behalf of constituent re 2016 Honda Civic defective car. The consumer stated the bluetooth would freeze during an incoming call. Brought vehicle to Honda due to loud roaring sound near rear left tire. I thought it was the bearing as there had been a recall and my car was supposedly "ok". Honda calls and wants to charge me almost $800 for 2 new control arms, 2 new rear tires, and an alignment. I do some research and find out there is a TSB: Honda designed the control arms wrong causing premature wear of the tires. The fix is to replace them with newly designed control arms. So, Honda should pay for it considering they designed a defective product. Honda will not pay for it. Essentially, Honda is admitting the product is defective by replacing it with a newly designed product. My purchased an aftermarket warranty from the Honda stealership: they refused to replace the control arms claiming "it is a defect caused by Honda" and the part is not broken. The consumer loses once again and Honda takes the money. This is not the only defective design on this car: the engine block cracks due to improper casting, the cheap visors break: at least Honda extended the warranty on this to 8 years. After that, I guess you're out of luck. This is my 6th Honda. I also have a Honda lawnmower and powerwasher. Honda was the only vehicle I would buy due to their high quality and reliability. They used to build quality products and stand behind them. Now they build garbage at a premium price and refuse to stand behind them. I knew I bought that Hyundai sonata for $4,000 less than an accord. . . The Hyundai has 0 issues and runs great with similar mileage. Sorry Honda: I will be purchasing from a company that stands behind their products instead of company riding off of their name legacy from the 80's and 90's. Check out Hyundai or even dare I say and american car: the quality is much better.

Faulty suspension causes tires to wear quickly and unevenly. Tires develop cups that cause excessive vibration at all speeds.

Driving into the parking log going around 7 mph the support arm for the rear right wheel shock/suspension snapped in the middle and my wheel was basically dragging for around 20 feet so I could park and wait for the tow truck. This car is used as a commute car since I live in the country I drive around 70 miles a day combined mostly at 70 mph on cruise control on decent highways. I don't jump off ramps or drive crazy this is clearly poor manufacturing, workmanship, or design. I'm glad it happened when I was parking and not on the highway.
Car rear end moves from side to side in adverse conditions such as ice and snow even driving at what should be a safe speed. Even on dry tar or concrete I notice something is not right. The tires wear unevenly on the rear. The 1st time I brought the car in on 12-13-07 at 5,622 miles the rear tires were shot and Honda blamed it on me. Bulletin # 08-011 (rear upper control arm kit) was performed on 1-24-08 and seemed to help some. That didn't solve the problem because on 2-12-09 at 14,489 miles the tires were shot. After that tire replacement the car was aligned all around and so I thought maybe that would solve the problem. Since then I still noticed the rear end was still unstable and went in several times to get the problem resolved and each time they either blamed it on me or said there was no problem. Then on 1-12-2011 at 38,359 miles and another week at the Honda shop I come to find out the tires are again worn badly on both rear inside edges. The only offer Honda cooperation has made is to replace the tires with them only paying some of the cost but no permanent solution. The 3rd set of tires I put on were the best cooper tires and still had the problem so I know replacing the tires again will not solve the problem. I and my family feel unsafe in this car especially under certain conditions. More important to me then anything is the safety of my family and I hope Honda will understand this and find a permanent solution before an accident happens at a result of this. Honda suggested trading the car in for something else but I can not pass this safety hazard on to another person and feel good about it.
I took the car to a Honda dealership because the back tires were wearing out prematurely on the inside. They replaced the upper control arms with the "supposedly" correct control arms marked c and did an alignment, but that did not solve the problem! I just bought a full set of new tires in July of 2010 and my car was aligned and I am about to need new tires again! in addition, the driver's visor fell off and was replaced. However, both visors fell off the second time, and are now held on with zip ties. There is a design flaw in the visor as well.
On my 2006 Honda Civic si, rear spoke covers on leather wrapped steering wheel protrude with sharp edges. This comes in contact with the fingers while driving. It is not merely a tactile concern since the sharp edge has actually cut my finger tip within the first week of owning this new car. The concern exists on other leather wrapped steering wheels of the same model. There is currently no solution to this matter with american Honda and it is obviously a bad fitment of the steering wheel back onto a leather wrapped steering wheel. It is bad design and can interfere with driving ability of the car. Every time the wheel is turned about 180 degrees, upon return to center the sharp plastic edge of the back spoke covers come slicing at the finger tips. With no solution currently planned and what I would call poor response in Honda's resolution scenario, this needed to be brought to a higher level of attention. Since this affects my model of car and possibly other 2006 Civics with the leather wrapped steering wheel option, it will affect many customers and will potentially injure drivers and interfere with driving ability.

While traveling approximately 25 to 30 mph and making a turn, engine stalled and caused steering column to lock up. This problem did not result in a crash or injuries. Dealership examined vehicle for engine stalling, but has failed to remedy the problem. While driving, consumer heard a metal to metal sound coming from right wheel well. Consumer was told computer was not set properly according to the VIN code, this was a service bulletin, dealer stated this could be why stalling was occurring, 4 fuses blew and now dealer replaced fuse box, dealer thinks this may be a reason why the vehicle stalled also, dealer also states that he does not know why the fuses blew to begin with, the blown fuse caused moonroof to be inoperable. Vents loose. Trunk release inoperable. Springs squeak and were replaced. Defective weld in the passenger side door rusted. Vehicle experiences rough idle. Driver side tweeter cracking. Driver side mud flap loose. Passenger kick panel uneven. Fuel gauge erratic.
While driving the defective steering column malfunctioned, causing the vehicle not to have steering ability which caused an accident.
