3 Trunk Lid problem of the 2011 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 02/28/2021

The trunk lid hasn't been right all along. I can't tell you how many times it has come down and hit me on the head. Now, the bar that keeps the lid open has snapped and the trunk will not stay open by itself. It closes with such force, it could really injure a person,. It was parked in the garage when it happened.

5 Trunk Lid problem of the 2005 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/24/2016

Trunk lid latch malfunction. Lid does not close all the way causing it to open when seats & windows are down driving on the highway. The nylon inside the latch has worked it's way out causing the latch to bind and not close properly, thus making the trunk not actually locked. Is a security risk and also a safety hazard to others on the road. If you had a lot of belongings in the trunk they would be scattered all over the highway.

8 Trunk Lid problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

Honda Civic 2006 ex model: when the tiny piece of plastic inside the trunk release solenoid snaps, the ex model has no alternative method to open the trunk from outside the trunk. Since the ex model lacks an outside key hole and the seat back releases are inside the trunk and the seats are bolted in from the trunk side without a method of removing them without damaging the car, the seats of the car or the trunk lid must be broken (literally cut through the metal) in order to open the trunk from outside the trunk after the solenoid plastic breaks. Since the emergency release mechanism is attached to the solenoid, this flaw could cost the life of a child trapped inside the trunk in the dark. Although this design flaw is now well known with this ex model, Honda refuses to reimburse owners over this problem or recall the part. Their customer service line refuses to handle the problem effectively and refuses to pass on the problem to their engineering department, referring customers only to local deanships without offering any compensation for their faulty product.

9 Trunk Lid problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 09/25/2012

I have a 2006 Honda Civic si. The trunk does not have a key entry to it and the wireless entry system was not working to open the trunk. Additionally, I was able to gain access to the trunk by removing the backseat and attempted to pull the emergency trunk release and the trunk will still not open. There has not been an accident nor any event which would have cause the trunk to not open. I went to a Honda dealer and they said that the latch was broken and that it would cost a total of $400 to fix. My concern is that if a child or someone accidentally gets locked in the trunk, there is no way that they would be able to get out unless the trunk is cut into. This defect seems like a safety issue and from reading online, it appears that this has happened to multiple Honda Civic si's. The other difference with this model is that the Civic si does not have a key entry to the trunk so there is no manual override (minus the emergency manual override which does not work).

My 2009 Honda Civic ex, polished metal metallic, has paint that has been fading on the roof and trunk. 13 Trunk Lid problem of the 2002 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Car's clearcoat has been flaking off the roof and the trunk lid. It first started with discoloration (lightened blotches) in June of 2010 (8 years after purchased new). Currently (Feb. , 2015), 30% of the clearcoat on the roof, and 10% on the trunk lid have flaked off. The car has never been exposed to snow, only to CA climate. I've read that the clearcoat issue is common with Honda automobiles since the late 1990's. I also have a 1993 Acura legend (236k miles) that was exposed to the exact same climate conditions, but the clear coat on it is still in excellent condition. Both cars are maintained the same way. All my cars are well maintained above & beyond what the manual recommended. I think I'm fairly knowledgeable about cars in general (mechanical, technology, industry trend, . . Etc) because I read about it as a routine everyday, just like most people read the news everyday. Based on the collective information I've read in the last decade, I believe the clearcoat degradation for the car years coincided with Honda's switched over to the use of more environmental friendly paint (I. E. Water based paint) in the late 1990's or early 2000's. On my own Civic, the clearcoat flakes become very soft (almost gel-like) when wet from washing. I don't think this is a safety related issue. It was a manufacturing decision Honda made which proved to be less durable. Honda should be called out of it.

14 Trunk Lid problem of the 2006 Honda Civic

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

I recently had an incident on my 2006 Honda Civic ex coupe in which the trunk lid door jammed and would not open. There are two ways of opening the trunk, one being on the remote and the other being the lever in the driver compartment. (the trunks on these cars do not have a keyed entry. ) upon further investigation, I discovered that the trunk has no access from the outside of the trunk if the lid door will not open. These cars have a 60/40 fold down rear seat that is only able to open from inside the trunk. After speaking with Honda, they confirm that this is in fact the design if the car. My fear is that a small child will accidentally get locked in the truck of the car and the door jams. This could have deadly results because there is no quick way to gain access.
