24 Air Conditioner problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/11/2008

The a/c went kaput on my 2004 Honda crv. Hendrick Honda of charleston told me the entire system was contaminated and needed to be replaced in the ballpark of $3000. My car has 40,000 miles on it and I have learned of a litany of the same problem with other 2001-2004 Honda crvs. I've also learned that the crv air conditioning system has been redesigned for models after '04. I contacted american Honda and received a case number which I shared with my service representative. He said "I wish you hadn't done that because I could have got things going faster. " this is neither here nor there, but I did get the sense I did the correct move. Hendrick Honda of charleston says they can fix it no problem, but I don't want to be on the hook for a major repair on a car that isn't that old with few miles. I'm not looking to cause a stink. . . I just want the car fixed. Other than this, it's a bang-up vehicle. Thank you for your time.

27 Air Conditioner problem of the 2003 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/26/2008

This is in connection with the air conditioner compressor. Head a clicking noise when I pulled into my drive way. Opened the hood and noticed that the sound was coming from the compressor section. I turned off the switch to the air conditioner and the clicking noise stopped. I turned it back on and the compressor blew up with white steam. Took it to the dealer the following day and was told the compressor was cracked and that I need a new compressor, replaced with the clutch, coil filter to the tune of $1502 plus tax. I went on the internet to check on this issue and found a lot of identical complains dealing with the Honda crv 2003 and 2004 series. Mine is 2003. Although there many other links, the one I noted was topix. Com. Everyone complained about identical problems and diagnostics and cost. At the monet Honda America has decided to share the repair cost with me which I have accepted. But it seems that this is an occurring issue. Please let me know if others have filed similar complaints with you. Thanks.

My air conditioning in my '03 crv stopped cooling. I took it in and after authorizing repairs found out that both fans had quit and the whole system was contaminated. Honda offered to split the difference with me so I paid half, about 1500 bucks. It seems to me that if over 800 complaints have been registered that Honda could do better by us loyal customers. I am thinking of Toyota next time.

32 Air Conditioner problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/29/2007

A/c blowing hot air - initially I thought there was just a need for freon - firestone diagnosed the a/c compressor went out - I picked the car up without repairing because of the cost. I looked on the internet and found site that suggested I call Honda America - I opened up a case (very rude people there) and then took car to local Honda dealership on 10/1/07 - they told me the entire system was contaminated and repair would cost me $535. 66 and they would take care of the rest. I complained about the cost to Honda America (I was a stay at home mom) and they said I should be happy with that cost. Difficult pill to swallow when the car was only 3 years old at the time and I was basically paying for their faulty part.

33 Air Conditioner problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

34 Air Conditioner problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/11/2007

I was involved in a minor collision and the amount of damage to the total damage to my 2007 Honda Cr-v was well over $8,000. I was rear ended by someone and pushed into the car in front of me. There was no damage at all to the car I was pushed into and only minor damage to the car that rear-ended me. The rear end damage to my car was over $3,000 and the front end damage to my car was over $5,000. This was a very low speed collision on a local street and even the collision shop manager was stunned at the amount of damage to the car, especially the front end. The compressor of the air conditioner was damaged beyond repair by this minor collision and had to be replaced. My auto insurance had to pay for this. The collision shop manager said he'd never seen anything quite like that - he asked me if this was a high speed collision (it was not), then asked me if the car I was pushed into had a trailer hitch sticking out (it had nothing sticking out). I now am reading numerous consumer complaints by people about the air conditioner compressor in this car in which the dealer stated that the compressor was damaged by a "pebble" from the road. Based on these complaints and my own experience, I can only conclude that there is a serious defect in the manufacture of the 2007 Honda Cr-v's air conditioner compressor, causing the consumers to have to endure huge costs to replace this compressor because of such minor things as pebbles striking the part and low speed minor fender benders!!!.
