Honda CR-V owners have reported 1,649 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.

1 Equipment problem of the 2026 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/25/2025

Vehicle's apple carplay was not able to sync with my apple I-phone. Dealer salespeople and service technicians were not able to sync their own phones either. This seems to be a systematic problem on 2025 and newer Honda motor vehicles. My Honda crv is currently in the dealerships service departments possession. My loaner vehicle ( 2026 Honda odyssey) also had the same problem. I could not sync my I-phone into the loaner car. Two different cars from Honda with the same problem that I personally experienced. I believe that this is a huge safety issue. If a driver needs to keep their eyes on the road, they should be able to keep communications available by not looking at their cell phones.

2 Equipment problem of the 2015 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/23/2025

The frame on my wisconsin-owned vehicle has rotted out to the point I am unable to safely have it repaired. The control arm simple pulled out of the frame as the frame was so rusted. The shop says they cannot in good conscience repair it. The manufacturer has recalled frames for this issue, but mine is apparently not included. Honda has refused to help.

3 Equipment problem of the 2023 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/12/2025

On [xxx], at approximately [xxx]. I was traveling down the [xxx] . It was a clear morning and the traffic was light. There were no warning signs or messages displayed prior to the glass shattering. It was startling as I was going 70-75 mph when this happened. While driving my 2023 Honda crv hybrid sport on the morning of [xxx], the sunroof glass exploded. After the dealerships inspection, I was informed that repairs were not covered by warranty or recall. As stated previously it was a clear morning, the traffic was light and there was nothing near me that could have dropped on my roof and shattered my sunroof. I have included pictures for your review. On 9/15/25 at 11:30am I spoke to Honda corporation customer service. I was informed that at this time there is no open warrantee for this issue. She stated it had been reported to Honda. If a pattern is shown they may open a warrantee, and she thanked me for reporting the issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Equipment problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/10/2025

I have 2 issues with my car - the first one has been ongoing and I should have reported it sooner - when using cruise my car will sometimes brake for no reason, it's as if the car sees something that's not there. The second one just occurred and has only happened once. I was driving on the highway using cruise and I got a message on the dash that said something like cruise control disengaged - the cruise turned off and the gas pedal didn't work so I had to coast to the shoulder. Luckily, I didn't have to cross any lanes of traffic or it could have been extremely dangerous. I plan to contact the dealer as soon as I am done with this submission. I wanted to be able to tell them that I had notified the NHTSA.

5 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/30/2025

The headlights were on after I replaced the battery. Did a little bit of research and found that the body control module or (bcm) would be going out. Got a new one sent and tried replacing it and the part didn't end up working. Took it to a non Honda dealer. Got it taken care of, but the new bcm wouldn't work. All warning lights came on and now I have to deal with the bcm going out again and not able to return the part back to Honda.

6 Equipment problem of the 2023 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/22/2025

Subject: vehicle theft due to security vulnerability – 2023 Honda Cr-v hybrid vehicle information: • make: Honda • model: Cr-v hybrid awd • year: 2023 description of the problem: I am reporting a serious security vulnerability in my 2023 Honda Cr-v hybrid, which was stolen [xxx] from a residential parking lot in bayside queens, NY. The theft occurred despite the vehicle being locked and parked in my parking area. The theft method likely involved bypassing the can bus system, a known vulnerability in modern vehicles. Honda later issued a product improvement notice regarding enhanced anti-theft software, which I received(8/26/25) after the incident. This suggests that the manufacturer was aware of the security flaw but did not proactively notify owners or offer preventive upgrades before thefts occurred. Will impact: • financial loss due to theft and insurance deductibles • emotional distress and ongoing safety concerns • time-consuming police and insurance procedures • lack of timely manufacturer support or warning • police report (nypd case number: [xxx]) I urge NHTSA to investigate the security vulnerabilities in Honda Cr-v hybrid models, particularly regarding can bus access and lack of proactive anti-theft measures. I also request that Honda be required to issue formal recalls or mandatory software updates to prevent further thefts ASAP. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Equipment problem of the 2022 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/21/2025

I am writing to formally report a serious safety incident involving my [2022 Honda crv], which is currently under warranty. On [xxx], while my wife was driving along the [xxx] from soldotna to anchorage, alaska, the sunroof of my vehicle spontaneously exploded without any external impact or provocation. At the time of the incident: the temperature was approximately 65°f, eliminating thermal stress as a factor. There were no other vehicles nearby and no overhead obstructions. A thule rooftop cargo carrier was mounted above the sunroof, providing a physical barrier that would have prevented any object from striking the glass. The vehicle has fewer than 30,000 miles and is less than three years old, qualifying it for coverage under Honda’s new vehicle limited warranty. The explosion resulted in shattered glass raining into the top, creating a hazardous situation while driving. This incident appears consistent with other reports and complaints involving spontaneous sunroof explosions in Honda vehicles, some of which have led to legal action and consumer s information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

8 Equipment problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/19/2025

The front windshield on my vehicle was cracked on four different occassions. Three times when a small stone/gravel hit the winshield while driving. And once while parked outside. My safety was at risk because while driving I was startled when the object hit the windshield and I immediately focused my eyes on the damage when my attention should have been keeping my eyes on the road at all times. Each time I filed a claim with my insurance company. In my opinion I believe the glass does not meet or nearly meet industry standards. Further, I'm retired and do not drive my vehicle every day or long distances. Also, the cracked windshields were replaced with Honda windshields. Finally, I fail to believe I am that unlucky to have had my windshield replaced four times within six years.

9 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/16/2025

The sunroof completely shattered with no impact of an object while driving on the freeway. This but myself and my children at risk for harm had I had the sunroof visor open. Glass would have hit myself while driving and my baby while she was in the back seat. I am currently in the process of this being inspected. There were no warning signs or lights that came on.

10 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/15/2025

My car decelerated on the highway from a speed of approximately 65 mph to 9 mph in a matter of seconds without any reason. I drove in the breakdown lane with flashers on to get to the next exit and upon entering the off-ramp my crv suddenly accelerated back to normal. I took my vehicle to my Honda dealership and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It was showing no codes. The write-up did not mention my description of the deceleration on the highway. It discussed only my thought that my alternator might be bad. This was 8/19/25. Since this check at the dealership my car has done this exact act two more times on the highway for no reason. I am terrified to drive my car on the highway because I fear for my safety.

11 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

As I were driving down the interstate at 50 mph, I'd heard a loud pop, the sunroof exploded into a million tiny pieces of glass. When we got home, I started doing some internet searching and found that shattering sunroofs was a longstanding problem with Honda vehicles especially, basically all vehicles with sunroofs. From some posts I was reading, I saw that many dealers were refusing to accept these as a warranty claim and some insurance companies were calling these experiences an "act of god" and refusing to pay claims. I saw at least one class action lawsuit against Honda for shattering sunroofs. I went to my dealer (where I had purchased the vehicle) all prepared to have a discussion with them about liability, but I was pleasantly surprised and angry when they said the broken glass would not be replaced under warranty. This was a brand new 2025 Honda crv purchased with 7 miles at the time of purchased. I had to go through my insurance agency for repairs because this was not covered under Honda dealership warranty which I'd had purchased. Total repairs for parts and labor was around 611. 74. This is a major safety issue for all drivers.

14 Equipment problem of the 2021 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/04/2025

My 2021 Honda Cr-v displays an “all system failure” message while driving. On multiple occasions, the car has also braked suddenly on its own when there was no obstacle in front of me. This is a serious safety hazard, as it could cause a crash from behind. The issue is intermittent but recurring. It has happened several times recently. I know other Honda Cr-v owners are experiencing the same problem, and some mechanics report they are seeing this issue frequently. I am very concerned about the safety of myself and my children while driving this vehicle. This vehicle was in an accident 3 years ago, but these problems only began recently and are consistent with widespread reports from other Cr-v owners.

15 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

Twice, while making a right turn the car braked on me, I assume because a car was in the other lane of the road I was turning into. This could have been a problem and could have caused an accident if someone was behind me and my car stopped suddenly.

16 Equipment problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/30/2025

This morning, I went to get into my 2014 Honda Cr-v. As I shut the driver’s side door, the entire rear hatchback window suddenly shattered. There was no impact, accident, or attempted theft. The vehicle was parked and stationary at the time. I’m unsure why this happened, but it appears to have occurred spontaneously and without any external force.

17 Equipment problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/29/2025

Without warning, my 2019 Honda crv has repeatedly gone into limp mode, basically, immediately reducing speed to approximately 7 miles per hour. When this occurs, dash is lit up with numerous warning lights. My vehicle requires towing. This has occurred 4 times since may 20th, 2024. The reading has been consistent each time I have had it repaired; cylinder 3 misfire. I have taken my vehicle 3 times to a local mechanic and clawson Honda, a dealer, the last time;July 29th. There is no warning this will occur. The safety issues are obvious. With the vehicle abruptly, basically, stopping, not only are passengers and drivers in my vehicle in eminent danger, but other drivers who may be trailing behind. I have had extensive conversations with Honda representatives. My vehicle was part of a recall soon after we purchased it. The recall information indicated a software issue that was identified as the same problem that is now happening with our vehicle. I believe there is a potential high risk issue with Honda software. There are numerous makes and models, according to my research, that have been recently recalled for similar issues. As per following questions; this occurred four times: may 20, 2024 October 4, 2024 January 1, 2025 July 29, 2025.

18 Equipment problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/29/2025

My car was sitting in idle with the engine on for approximately five minutes, then all of the sudden the engine started to make loud tractor engine-like loud noises. The dashboard was bombarded with warnings. I turned the car off, and waited a few seconds. After I restarted the car, the check engine light turned on and the system reverted to one warning on the screen which read "emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ".

19 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/21/2025

Air conditioning goes off before reaching 40,000 miles.

20 Equipment problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/17/2025

Shortly after purchasing car I started getting all the error messages showing after I started the car and they would remain on sometimes it repeatedly happened. I brought it up to dealer several times during and in addition to maintenance and they told me it was not something they could replicate and found no issues. I was told it was the battery but it still happened after battery was replaced. On 07/17/25, with only 137000 miles on the vehicle, the error messages all came on again and the vehicle stalled at a stoplight. It would not shift into gear. Vehicle was towed where they had to replace engine valve cover gasket and the timing chain. The replaced parts listed: rtv gasket, cam chain tensioner, tensioner filter, 2 cam chain tensioner arms, cam chain guide, vtc ex actuator assy, vtc in actuator assy, flange bolt, cam chain guide b, oil seal, chain, and and new oil. I know this is a known issue with the engine in this model and not an uncommon issue that Honda has refused to admit.

21 Equipment problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

I am submitting this complaint due to repeated and unresolved safety and performance issues. Beginning in mid-2023, the vehicle experienced multiple system-wide failures, including: -all dashboard warning lights illuminating intermittently without cause, sometimes for days. -sudden failure to accelerate after stopping, including stalling in intersections. -engine running rich with repeated check engine light activations. On two occasions, the vehicle stalled in the middle of busy intersections, once with my one-year-old child in the car, posing a serious risk to my family and other drivers. The dealership replaced the a/c control unit (June 2023) citing it as the cause of the system alerts, but no improvement was seen. The dealership then diagnosed a faulty vsa unit, quoted $2,500, but never ordered the part or followed up. A third-party shop (mr. Tire) diagnosed a faulty ecm, which the dealership ignored. In September 2023, dealership recommended replacing the fuel injectors, which I paid for out-of-pocket (~$1,000), which resolved the warning lights and stalling. However, ongoing problems persist: the air conditioning system is no longer cooling effectively, despite prior repair. The car also feels underpowered when accelerating or starting, with weak engine revving compared to when the car was new. While no current warning lights appear, the performance is noticeably degraded. In April 2025, the vehicle’s fuel pump was finally replaced under Honda’s service bulletin recall after being on the waiting list for the parts for nearly 1. 5 years, but these other concerns remain unresolved. I am submitting this complaint because: the stalling incidents created serious safety hazards in live traffic. The vehicle has experienced repeated systemic failures that align with known issues reported by other 2018 Cr-v owners. Despite multiple dealership visits and significant personal expense, the vehicle has not been restored to reliable and safe operating condition.

22 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

The electrical system periodically goes haywire - all warning lights come on and flash. It some cases, my car lost power and it was unsafe to drive. I was worried it would overheat. I have rebooted and sometimes it resets and sometimes it doesn't. It is extremely rough starting now. The electrical problem can start when I start the car and sometimes it happens while driving. With all warnings going, it concerns me that I would not know which alert might be real. The vehicle seems to short itself out. I have changed the battery more times than would be normal. It is draining the battery while sitting (no lights or other issues that would cause it). The electrical system flashing has been happening from the beginning but it is getting more frequent and doesn't reset. I have also taken it to a mechanic a d paid for various repairs and nothing helps.

23 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

Our 2017 Honda crv ex body control module has to be replaced due to the alarm system coming on and the car trying to start itself along with a parasitic drain. I have driven Honda's my entire life because they are suppose to be reliable and I guess this is no longer the case. Very disappointed with this vehicle.

24 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/14/2025

On July 31, 2025, my 2017 Honda Cr-v was diagnosed by a certified Honda dealership with complete air conditioning failure. The a/c compressor produced a loud knocking noise and was found to have leaked black debris (burned oil/metal), contaminating the entire system. I was informed the system required full replacement, totaling $4,500. The defect has disabled the ability to cool the vehicle cabin, which poses a risk to drivers with health conditions. It also affects window defogging and visibility, especially in humid, rainy conditions. This matches hundreds of similar complaints and class action lawsuits filed against Honda for known a/c system defects in 2016–2021 Cr-v and civic models. My car is outside the standard compressor warranty, and Honda refuses to provide assistance. This failure should be considered a safety hazard, particularly for individuals who require temperature control for medical reasons.

25 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/13/2025

Experienced a sudden unintended acceleration while parking the vehicle. Right front tire climbed up on a parking barrier (shortened telephone pole) and damaged the right front bumper. No warning or trouble lights were on at that time, however, after restarting vehicle and heading home approximately half a mile down the road, all the warning and trouble lights came on, the steering wheel started shaking and the car wasn’t drivable. We have no idea if there is concealed damage underneath the vehicle. We called Honda roadside assistance and they came and took the vehicle to the closest Honda dealership. At this time, we’re waiting to hear from them.

26 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

Approaching sliding exit gate slowly at 2 mile per hour the Honda suddenly accelerated and crashed into sliding gate. Damaged the gate and the right side of the Honda. Honda was placed in neutral and the engine was turned off. Next day the Honda was transported to the body shop for repairs. Transported by flat bed. Unsafe to drive.

27 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/11/2025

All warning lights come on at once while driving. First occurrence happened during a snowy day. I immediately went to an independent facility to have the codes run as I was concerned with losing braking ability as it was one of the many lights saying there was an issue. The mechanic checked it for codes and listed all the faults I could see on the dash. Mechanic said most likely it was a battery problem, so the battery was tested and was fine. Safety at risk due to sudden cancellation of cruise control and not having emergency automatic braking. 2 independent repair shops have been able to reproduce the issue. One was able to clear the codes and have the issue be reproduced real-time connected to reader. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer or police insurance reps. The warning lamps are: all of them. Electrical, power steering, emerg. Braking, tpms, lkas, engine, etc. During the winter the lights stay on for weeks at a time. Spring and early summer significantly less. Summer time thus far has been higher than in the spring, but the time they are on is less (a day or two) temperature is the only thing I noticed a real difference with. Cold was the worst. Not even having the vehicle warmed up would remove the lights. They turn on and off whenever they want.

28 Equipment problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/30/2025

American Honda extended the warranty for the a/c compressor shaft seal on the 2017 Honda Cr-v to 10 years from the original purchase date, with no mileage limitation. This extended warranty covers the repair or replacement of the a/c compressor shaft seal if it leaks. This is due to a known corrosive material that they used in the system. My car failed this seal and they would replace this for free. However, the discharge hose on the same system also failed due to corrosion of the same material. The hose is not covered under the warranty and Honda will not fix the hose or even cover any percentage of the cost. Herb chambers in burlington won't do the ac comprssor shaft seal without the hose being replaced because the system will still leak. American Honda and herb chambers want me to pay $1400 for a repair to the discharge hose before they will perform the work on the compressor seal. If the corrosive material was the culprit for the shaft seal, then it is also the culprit on the discharge hose and I would like to make sure they are responsible for using this corrosive material and they should cover the whole repair. I would like to know my options.

29 Equipment problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/25/2025

On [xxx] I was driving my 2018 Honda Cr-v on [xxx] near livingston montana. I was traveling at about 70 mph with my vehicle's sunroof closed and the inside panel closed, it was a warm day and my ac was on, all windows closed. Suddenly I heard a bang above my head, I heard particles bouncing off the roof. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw chunks and particles landing in front of a semi truck behind me, the truck swerved to avoid the glass and passed me. I slowed down, slightly opened the inside sunroof cover and saw broken glass. Closed the inner cover and I pulled off the freeway and inspected the damage to the skylight; a large area missing (1/3 of the glass) and glass remnants lifting up toward the sky. It looked as if the skylight glass had exploded outward. The safety part 1, if I had the inner skylight cover open, I or my passenger(s) could have been sprayed with glass particles traveling at 70 mph. 2. If a motorcycle or other vehicle was behind me they would have been sprayed with glass chunks and particles. 3. Swerving by the Honda being driven and swerving by the vehicles following. I have read that other Honda owners have had similar Honda sunroof glass explode when not in use in a class action complaint. My vehicle was in excellent condition with only 43,000 miles at the time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

30 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/22/2025

I purchased a crv hybrid sport l and the side mirror is distorted view (like blurry). It's causing me headaches. . . Oddly enough, however the passenger/rear view mirror is fine.

31 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/21/2025

Subject: safety concern – hood instability on 2025 Honda Cr-v hybrid dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally report a potential safety defect with my 2025 Honda Cr-v hybrid. The hood does not close securely and exhibits visible gaps, uneven alignment, and noticeable movement or rattling at highway speeds. This raises serious concerns about the structural integrity of the hood and the possibility of it disengaging while driving. I brought this issue to lia Honda, where I was told the movement is “by design” and not a defect. However, the instability is significant enough to cause distraction and fear of hood failure at high speeds. I believe this warrants further investigation, especially as I’ve learned that other Cr-v hybrid owners have reported similar experiences. I respectfully request that this issue be documented and reviewed as a potential safety defect. I am happy to provide photos, videos, or additional documentation upon request.

32 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/19/2025

Last week noticed my car to start shaking from the front area when I went from a full stop and began accelerating. When I also turn on my vehicle and it was idling it would shake too. I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn’t find the issue until I got in the car with them and showed them the noise. They said today that it needs new fuel injectors. I bought my car at 0 miles and it had 7,800 miles when I noticed the issue.

33 Equipment problem of the 2020 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

On 6/16/2025 I was driving home and my car dinged and a light came up on my dash all wheel drive system problem and felt funny. I was almost home and when turning off and back on it went off. Two days later I was almost home and the same thing and did not drive right. I got it to a Honda dealer and they determined it was the rear differential pump motor based on the code. They replaced it yesterday and within 5 miles threw another code, which was stated that the full rear differential was needed. After some research of the all wheel drive system problem it appears there are a lot of people out there with crv's that are having this issue. My vehicle has less than 41,000 miles on it and should not have gone out. I also noticed when I googled rear differential for 2020 crv's that the NHTSA is reviewing a case for this issue. I am thankful that I have extended warranty and will cover the repairs but I feel that this should be a recall and that Honda should take care of it instead of extended warranty. Please review this issue with crv's and let me know if a recall is possible to be implemented.

34 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/14/2025

As we were driving on the freeway, our rear window shattered on its own. You can hear like an explosion of glass. We checked our cameras and nothing was thrown to our car. It just completed shattered on its own and we are confused as to why. It is a huge safety concern as we had a minor in the car. We called Honda and they said that they could not do anything, which is upsetting considering that we have to pay out of pocket for something that may be a defect as it shattered on its own.

35 Equipment problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/12/2025

I parking my car in a parking spot at my work infront of a tree post the car jumped and hit the tree post by it self as crazy it sound I’ve never seen this before I was devastated. Scared I had called the insurance to tow the car to the Honda dealer and it’s been sitting there for a month now to get the manufacturing Honda come look at it and no one had contacted me yet.
