Equipment Problems of Honda CR-V - part 1

While driving at a normal speed (55mph) on I-5 north in bellingham, wa when the sunroof on my Honda Cr-v imploded. It sounded like a very loud gunshot. The shock of the incident startled my passenger and I and I immediately began looking her over to see if there was any blood. I looked up and saw very small shards of glass falling through the sunroof and a large hole. It was fortunate those shards did not cause damage. I immediately closed the sunroof and exited the highway. There were no rocks in the car, very little glass entered the car and a large hole was in the sunroof. The dealer did not believe it was due to a glass defect, he felt that something large had hit the car. This was not possible- we were on a clear highway and there was no sign of anything in the car or on the sunroof that would explaijn the damage. I do not want other people to have this experience- it is frightening and could lead to accidents.

After stopping the car I shut off the engine while the gear/selector was still in d (drive). The car began rolling forward since the driveway has a slope. My car hit the car parked before my car. The front bumper has been damaged. Later. I've checked several times this situation: if engine shuts off while selector is in d, the vehicle rolls instead of holding on a slope. This is a serious safety issue! many driveways have slopes.

The moon roof shattered as we were driving. Luckily the inner sun shade was pulled. Crazy to have tempered glass above you. We could have not had that cover closed and glass could have rained down on us.

Driving in mild foggy conditions, going 44 mph. My crv dash had the brake warning flashing and locked up my brakes. There was nothing in front of me do cause this. There was a car behind me that could of hit me. Everything in my car flew off the seats and it jarred my neck and back. My lowered back has been hurting and I am seriously concerned for my safety in this vehcle.

Electrical system problem //I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a recurring and serious issue with my 2019 Honda Cr-v. Multiple dashboard warning lights turn on simultaneously without clear explanation. These lights are extremely distracting while driving and present a significant safety concern. What’s even more troubling is that we have no idea why these lights are coming on. This uncertainty puts us in a dangerous situation—driving without knowing whether the vehicle might stall, break down, or suffer another critical failure at any moment. Given that this appears to be a common issue among other Cr-v owners, I strongly believe that Honda should take responsibility. At the very least, owners should be provided one free diagnostic service at an authorized dealership to determine the cause—especially if it’s related to a manufacturing or system defect. The stress and anxiety this has caused are considerable. In fact, the distraction caused by these lights nearly led to an accident. I hope NHTSA will take this matter seriously and offer support to affected customers before someone gets seriously hurt.

Two separate incidents since owned car: when opened front and back doors, leaned in, face touched corner tip of door. Both times the tip ripped a small piece of my face off. Extreme bleeding. Eventually healed but if I hit the door with force I would definitely have needed stiches and had a scar each time. This needs to be recalled.

My parked 2025 Honda Cr-v had front radar sensor stolen in daytime . I am fearful this can happen again due to easy assessibility.

While the adaptive cruise control is on for no reason the car breaks giving risk of being hit from behind. While driving down the road the brake light just comes on to say brake brake and there is no one in front or on the side of us. This has happened multiple times and I have owned the car for 4 years.

It is a 2007 Honda crv . The whole rear and frame and control arm is completely rusted out and rusted into. Was told it is very unsafe to drive and dangerous. And I can’t get Honda to do anything about it .

Vehicle's apple carplay was not able to sync with my apple I-phone. Dealer salespeople and service technicians were not able to sync their own phones either. This seems to be a systematic problem on 2025 and newer Honda motor vehicles. My Honda crv is currently in the dealerships service departments possession. My loaner vehicle ( 2026 Honda odyssey) also had the same problem. I could not sync my I-phone into the loaner car. Two different cars from Honda with the same problem that I personally experienced. I believe that this is a huge safety issue. If a driver needs to keep their eyes on the road, they should be able to keep communications available by not looking at their cell phones.

My 2021 Honda crv (VIN# [xxx] ) is only four years old and the touchscreen no longer works properly. My main concern is that the backup camera (which displays on the touchscreen) will come on when backing up but then sometimes glitch out and not display anything while in the process of backing up. I should also mentioned that the only thing that even partially works sometimes is the backup camera, because all the other features are unusable as the touchscreen perma displays the Honda logo and that is it - except for when it displays the backup camera when backing up. . . . But, again, even when it does display the backup cam on the touchscreen it will sometimes glitch out causing the touchscreen to no longer have the image of the backup camera while in the act of backing up. I brought the vehicle into Honda to inspect and try to repair, but they said it was not repairable and must be replaced. There were no fuse issues either, so it is the touch screen unit that is the problem. There are quite a lot of people online complaining about the touchscreen who own the 2021 Honda crv, so I am asking that the NHTSA issue a recall for the touchscreen. The frame on my wisconsin-owned vehicle has rotted out to the point I am unable to safely have it repaired. The control arm simple pulled out of the frame as the frame was so rusted. The shop says they cannot in good conscience repair it. The manufacturer has recalled frames for this issue, but mine is apparently not included. Honda has refused to help.

On [xxx], at approximately [xxx]. I was traveling down the [xxx] . It was a clear morning and the traffic was light. There were no warning signs or messages displayed prior to the glass shattering. It was startling as I was going 70-75 mph when this happened. While driving my 2023 Honda crv hybrid sport on the morning of [xxx], the sunroof glass exploded. After the dealerships inspection, I was informed that repairs were not covered by warranty or recall. As stated previously it was a clear morning, the traffic was light and there was nothing near me that could have dropped on my roof and shattered my sunroof. I have included pictures for your review. On 9/15/25 at 11:30am I spoke to Honda corporation customer service. I was informed that at this time there is no open warrantee for this issue. She stated it had been reported to Honda. Driving at 55 mph on a highway and the sunroof spontaneously shattered. No construction, no road work, nothing in my video shows anything kicked up by a car etc. Have a front and rear view camera on the car. Nothing was over my car as well while driving. That is seen on the video as well. Believe this will be a future recall. I am not the only one who has experienced this. Honda did nothing for me. They said you have to make an insurance claim. I could've been seriously hurt had I not had the sun slide in the closed position.

I have 2 issues with my car - the first one has been ongoing and I should have reported it sooner - when using cruise my car will sometimes brake for no reason, it's as if the car sees something that's not there. The second one just occurred and has only happened once. I was driving on the highway using cruise and I got a message on the dash that said something like cruise control disengaged - the cruise turned off and the gas pedal didn't work so I had to coast to the shoulder. Luckily, I didn't have to cross any lanes of traffic or it could have been extremely dangerous. I plan to contact the dealer as soon as I am done with this submission. I wanted to be able to tell them that I had notified the NHTSA.

I am writing to report a safety-related defect in my 2018 Honda crv. My car started smoking, all dashboard lights flashing, slow acceleration. Took it to a Honda repair shop and gave codes for turbo failure. I have googled and see that this make and model has this issue. I know it says VIN specific but all models 2017-2020 I believe have turbo failure. It is very dangerous to drive and unsafe. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this serious safety defect to prevent potential injuries or fatalities. My personal identifiers may be shared with the manufacturer to help facilitate their investigation. I am available to provide any further information required for your investigation. Turbo charge this abrupt flashing of all dashboard lights and immediate slowing down almost caused me to wreck. The smoking from the tailpipe, I didn't know what was going on. Sons Honda code p0299 yes no I have read that some common problems for the 2018 Honda Cr-v include engine oil dilution from the 1. 5l turbo engine.

Sullivan tire (ivory street) recommended a change in coolant fluid 1/18/25 during a routine oil change. 4/11/25 another routine oil change with a recommendation to change coolant fluid again due to substantial and informed experience but was not done. Then 6/6/25 during a routine oil change said coolant fluid was dirty and got changed for no charge in addition to paying for rear brakes and break fluid serviced. 8/30/25 routine oil change with cabin & engine filter changed. Made the same claim that coolant and break fluid should be serviced, I declined as I knew they were both just done. 9/11/25 have to pull off road and get a tow due to dashboard message, "stop driving when safe. Engine temperature to hot. " sullivan tire looked into the issue and found coolant fluid was down, and added more. They also ran it for two hours, did a test run and said everything was fine, with no leaks. 9/27/25 was traveling on highway when a strange noise was heard, check engine light flashing and acceleration rapidly decreasing. Got off highway pulled over and waited over an hour for a tow. 9/29/25 vehicle was serviced for spark plugs and coils, picked back up that night. 9/30/25 vehicle had to be towed again with an on again off again message of, "stop driving when safe. Engine temperature to hot. " waited more than two hours for a tow. 10/1/25 they looked at the vehicle and said they did not know what the issue was and had to call in a technician to help diagnose. 10/2/25 the technician called in discovered it was the head gasket and sullivan tire gave an estimate for $4400. 00 despite not providing the service. Been with out a vehicle pretty much since 9/27/25. I drive a 2018 Honda crv ex. I have also seen law suits against Honda for the issue described above.

The headlights were on after I replaced the battery. Did a little bit of research and found that the body control module or (bcm) would be going out. Got a new one sent and tried replacing it and the part didn't end up working. Took it to a non Honda dealer. Got it taken care of, but the new bcm wouldn't work. All warning lights came on and now I have to deal with the bcm going out again and not able to return the part back to Honda.

The theft occurred despite the vehicle being locked and parked in my parking area. The theft method likely involved bypassing the can bus system, a known vulnerability in modern vehicles. Honda later issued a product improvement notice regarding enhanced anti-theft software, which I received(8/26/25) after the incident. This suggests that the manufacturer was aware of the security flaw but did not proactively notify owners or offer preventive upgrades before thefts occurred. Will impact: • financial loss due to theft and insurance deductibles • emotional distress and ongoing safety concerns • time-consuming police and insurance procedures • lack of timely manufacturer support or warning • police report (nypd case number: [xxx]) I urge NHTSA to investigate the security vulnerabilities in Honda Cr-v hybrid models, particularly regarding can bus access and lack of proactive anti-theft measures. I also request that Honda be required to issue formal recalls or mandatory software updates to prevent further thefts ASAP. I am writing to formally report a serious safety incident involving my [2022 Honda crv], which is currently under warranty. On [xxx], while my wife was driving along the [xxx] from soldotna to anchorage, alaska, the sunroof of my vehicle spontaneously exploded without any external impact or provocation. At the time of the incident: the temperature was approximately 65°f, eliminating thermal stress as a factor. There were no other vehicles nearby and no overhead obstructions. A thule rooftop cargo carrier was mounted above the sunroof, providing a physical barrier that would have prevented any object from striking the glass. The vehicle has fewer than 30,000 miles and is less than three years old, qualifying it for coverage under Honda’s new vehicle limited warranty. The explosion resulted in shattered glass raining into the top, creating a hazardous situation while driving. This incident appears consistent with other reports and complaints involving spontaneous sunroof explosions in Honda vehicles, some of which have led to legal action and consumer s information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. The engine and cooling system failed. Coolant is leaking into the engine, causing misfires, loss of power, and potentially leading to complete engine failure. The vehicle is currently at zimbrick Honda in madison, WI, and the engine is available for inspection upon request. The vehicle suddenly lost power while driving in traffic on multiple occasions. Each time, the vehicle slowed down unexpectedly and could not accelerate, creating a risk of being rear-ended, losing control in traffic flow, or becoming stranded in an active traffic lane. This sudden loss of power posed a serious danger to me and other drivers around me. Zimbrick Honda, an authorized Honda dealership, inspected the vehicle and confirmed coolant intrusion into the engine, repeated misfires, and loss of power. Their diagnosis concluded that the engine has failed and must be replaced. The vehicle has been inspected by the authorized Honda dealership (zimbrick Honda). American Honda reviewed my goodwill assistance request using the dealership’s diagnosis, but no separate manufacturer inspection was conducted. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police or insurance because no collision occurred. It remains at the dealership and is available for inspection. Before the complete engine failure, the vehicle experienced sudden loss of power, engine hesitation, and misfires. The check engine light appeared during the incidents. The first occurrence happened on August 19th, 2025, at approximately 109,356 miles.

The front windshield on my vehicle was cracked on four different occassions. Three times when a small stone/gravel hit the winshield while driving. And once while parked outside. My safety was at risk because while driving I was startled when the object hit the windshield and I immediately focused my eyes on the damage when my attention should have been keeping my eyes on the road at all times. Each time I filed a claim with my insurance company. In my opinion I believe the glass does not meet or nearly meet industry standards. Further, I'm retired and do not drive my vehicle every day or long distances. Also, the cracked windshields were replaced with Honda windshields. Finally, I fail to believe I am that unlucky to have had my windshield replaced four times within six years.

The sunroof completely shattered with no impact of an object while driving on the freeway. This but myself and my children at risk for harm had I had the sunroof visor open. Glass would have hit myself while driving and my baby while she was in the back seat. I am currently in the process of this being inspected. There were no warning signs or lights that came on.

My car decelerated on the highway from a speed of approximately 65 mph to 9 mph in a matter of seconds without any reason. I drove in the breakdown lane with flashers on to get to the next exit and upon entering the off-ramp my crv suddenly accelerated back to normal. I took my vehicle to my Honda dealership and they told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It was showing no codes. The write-up did not mention my description of the deceleration on the highway. It discussed only my thought that my alternator might be bad. This was 8/19/25. Since this check at the dealership my car has done this exact act two more times on the highway for no reason. I am terrified to drive my car on the highway because I fear for my safety.

As I were driving down the interstate at 50 mph, I'd heard a loud pop, the sunroof exploded into a million tiny pieces of glass. When we got home, I started doing some internet searching and found that shattering sunroofs was a longstanding problem with Honda vehicles especially, basically all vehicles with sunroofs. From some posts I was reading, I saw that many dealers were refusing to accept these as a warranty claim and some insurance companies were calling these experiences an "act of god" and refusing to pay claims. I saw at least one class action lawsuit against Honda for shattering sunroofs. I went to my dealer (where I had purchased the vehicle) all prepared to have a discussion with them about liability, but I was pleasantly surprised and angry when they said the broken glass would not be replaced under warranty. This was a brand new 2025 Honda crv purchased with 7 miles at the time of purchased. I had to go through my insurance agency for repairs because this was not covered under Honda dealership warranty which I'd had purchased. Total repairs for parts and labor was around 611. 74. This is a major safety issue for all drivers.

Sunroof malfunction and opened on its own.

Power door locks do not work and driver side door lock can't be push down at all and will not open when locked.

My 2021 Honda Cr-v displays an “all system failure” message while driving. On multiple occasions, the car has also braked suddenly on its own when there was no obstacle in front of me. This is a serious safety hazard, as it could cause a crash from behind. The issue is intermittent but recurring. It has happened several times recently. I know other Honda Cr-v owners are experiencing the same problem, and some mechanics report they are seeing this issue frequently. I am very concerned about the safety of myself and my children while driving this vehicle. This vehicle was in an accident 3 years ago, but these problems only began recently and are consistent with widespread reports from other Cr-v owners.

Twice, while making a right turn the car braked on me, I assume because a car was in the other lane of the road I was turning into. This could have been a problem and could have caused an accident if someone was behind me and my car stopped suddenly.

This morning, I went to get into my 2014 Honda Cr-v. As I shut the driver’s side door, the entire rear hatchback window suddenly shattered. There was no impact, accident, or attempted theft. The vehicle was parked and stationary at the time. I’m unsure why this happened, but it appears to have occurred spontaneously and without any external force.

Without warning, my 2019 Honda crv has repeatedly gone into limp mode, basically, immediately reducing speed to approximately 7 miles per hour. When this occurs, dash is lit up with numerous warning lights. My vehicle requires towing. This has occurred 4 times since may 20th, 2024. The reading has been consistent each time I have had it repaired; cylinder 3 misfire. I have taken my vehicle 3 times to a local mechanic and clawson Honda, a dealer, the last time;July 29th. There is no warning this will occur. The safety issues are obvious. With the vehicle abruptly, basically, stopping, not only are passengers and drivers in my vehicle in eminent danger, but other drivers who may be trailing behind. I have had extensive conversations with Honda representatives. My vehicle was part of a recall soon after we purchased it. The recall information indicated a software issue that was identified as the same problem that is now happening with our vehicle. I believe there is a potential high risk issue with Honda software. There are numerous makes and models, according to my research, that have been recently recalled for similar issues. As per following questions; this occurred four times: may 20, 2024 October 4, 2024 January 1, 2025 July 29, 2025.

My car was sitting in idle with the engine on for approximately five minutes, then all of the sudden the engine started to make loud tractor engine-like loud noises. The dashboard was bombarded with warnings. I turned the car off, and waited a few seconds. After I restarted the car, the check engine light turned on and the system reverted to one warning on the screen which read "emissions system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. ".
