Honda CR-V owners have reported 1,649 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda CR-V based on all problems reported for the CR-V.
The backup camera on my 2024 Honda crv switches to black and white in hot weather. Depending on how hot, it may either stay black and white or rapidly switch back and forth. Not only is this a distraction while backing up but the washed out black and white image makes it much harder to differentiate between the roadway and objects in it. The issue has been confirmed by my local dealership and they told me replacing parts does not fix the issue. There is no known fix at this time. I switch to relying entirely on my mirrors when this happens but this does reduce overall visibility, especially for small objects and children.

While driving at normal speed, the vehicle suddenly began to shudder and produce unusual mechanical noise. Within seconds, the car lost all ability to accelerate despite pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle lost power in live traffic and had to be coasted to the side of the road. There were no warning lights, no error codes, and no fluid leaks. This was a sudden, dangerous failure. A family member who is a new driver was operating the vehicle at the time, with passengers on board. This created a serious safety risk to both my family and surrounding drivers. The situation could have resulted in a serious accident if it had occurred on a highway instead of a city street. The problem was diagnosed by a trusted independent repair shop as a complete internal failure of the cvt transmission. They confirmed the component failure occurred without any external damage or signs of neglect. The transmission had to be replaced at significant cost. The component has not been inspected by Honda. However, I have dashcam video showing the moment of failure, including the vehicle shuddering, power loss, and driver reaction. The video clearly shows the dangerous nature of the incident and is available for inspection upon request. To my knowledge, this is a known issue affecting this generation of Honda Cr-vs with cvt transmissions. Honda refused reimbursement assistance despite full documentation, citing the vehicle being out of warranty — even though this is the type of premature mechanical failure their goodwill assistance policy is supposed to address. No warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms appeared before the failure.

All the safety feature icons come on each time the vehicle is started and stay illuminated on the dashboard. It is unclear if these safety features would work in the event they are needed. Feel this is a safety concern that Honda is not addressing.

I was traveling with my family and had just entered [xxx] I suddenly felt like I hit something like bags of sand. . . But nothing was there. My brother in back seat said it felt like a bowling ball hit sunroof. I slid open the protective guard and noticed all the glass in sun roof was pebbled and shattered. There were no overpasses nearby. . . There was little traffic as it was [xxx]. Not sure what happened. My insurance doesnt want to cover as they feel manufacturers defect. There is mention of several class action suits in progress online for imploding sunroofs, but I received no notices. Honda denies any defect and says not their problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I had 2 unrelated issues in the past 2 days: 1) rear door actuator malfunction. The door won't lock or unlock as part of the central locking system 2) the "break" alert went off without any cars around. Happened once, breaks weren't activated by the car.

I was driving with my family home and my vehicle began to move from side to side in a very violent manner. When I stopped and checked my vehicle I saw that the frame where the rear suspension arm is held was completely rusted and broken, the rear tire was about to completely detach from the vehicle and luckily I was able to stop without harming the health of my son and wife, after the incident I investigated and realized that it is a fairly common problem in multiple Honda crv models of various years and so far no mechanic shop has wanted to repair my vehicle because they say that it is a major and very expensive repair, no warning lights came on before this happened and no one has wanted to inspect the vehicle, neither the dealer nor the insurance company, as they say this is not their problem but mine.

Reversed several feet out of parking space in unobstructed lot. Car abruptly stopped and most systems shut down. Driver depressed brakes to assess. Two warning lights were present - battery and engine. Driver ensured parking brake off and brake hold off. No vehicles, people, or other objects nearby. Driver slowly depressed gas pedal; car would not budge. Driver depressed brakes and shifted into drive; driver slowly depressed gas pedal but car would not respond at all. Driver turned the car completely off. Upon restarting, battery/engine light turned off and car drove normally to dealership. The car had <250 miles on it at the time. Dealer stated that no engine codes were retained. Dealer stated verbally that it is likely a "computer glitch" as the car is new and "just breaking in. " dealer stated that car "probably won't do it again. " written documents indicate that dealer suspects a failure in reverse automatic braking system. After car released to owner without addt'l testing, owner tested reverse automatic braking system. The system worked as expected - the car braked when it detected a close object in its field, it omitted the correct audible warning sounds and visual lights, and continued to perform when the driver depressed the braking system. Additionally, due to the newness of the car, the driver is extremely confident that no objects were around - the driver had been parking far from other vehicles to avoid dings. This "computer glitch" is potentially fatal as the car came to a sudden, complete stop while in motion and was unresponsive in any gear, even after brakes were applied and released. The owner drives on the freeway daily. The dealer could not say with confidence that the "glitch" would not occur in drive at high speed. Imagine driving 65 mph on a freeway and your car coming to a complete, sudden stop - not a rolling stop or a slowdown where you might inch to shoulder - just a completely dead car in the middle of a freeway.
Started car to leave from work and as I drove out of parking lot, every warning light came flashing on and car would not accelerate over 20mph and kept fluctuating the speed up to 20. . Luckily not too far from dealer and drove straight there. They say it looks like throttle body needs to be replaces. Have had issues with this car making noise between 30-35mpg since I have had and it still not diagnosed. . . Now this.

The steering gearbox mechanism is faulty. It causes the steering to be jerky and unstable, having to constantly adjust steering. We took it to the Honda dealership in ft. Walton beach, FL for evaluation. They indicate "the steering gearbox is faulty and would need a new rack to fix issue". Cost to repair is approximately $4600. An independent mechanic locally also confirmed the same issue and provided a Honda service bulletin 18-103 showing this was a recall on 2017-2018 crvs. Cost for them to repair (due to cost of parts) is nearly $7,000. Honda says our VIN is not covered under the recall. The car has only 55,000 miles on it and the steering gearbox is failing. At the direction of the local dealership service manager, we created a case with Honda corporate but they have denied the request to repair under prior recall. Honda directed us to the ncds to file a request for review. Ncds denies the review since the crv is out of warranty. Honda knows this was an issue on the 2017-2018 crv and it is a safety issue and they refuse to repair it. I don't feel safe driving the car as I don't know when the steering gearbox will ultimately fail.
Spontaneous explosion of moon roof glass - I was driving about 70mph on the highway near my home, it was a windy/partially sunny day and for no reason my moon roof glass exploded, sounded like a small bomb and in the rear view mirror I could see a lot of debris coming down. I then drove to a location where I safely parked and took a picture of the broken moon roof glass. I did not hear or see anything that would have caused this - it was spontaneous. Occurred about 330pm.
The car first does not respond to the key fob and when you look inside the dash is on despite not using push-to-start and you have to use the manual key to open the door. Then the car alarm will go off and continue not to repond to the keyfob until you, once again, use the manual key to unlock and silence th e car. The only solution I have gotten is to take the battery out of my key fob and disable push-to-start function. They already replaced my key fob and car battery and the problem has persisted. No recall information as of yet and I'm taking it to the dealership for further scrutiny. . .
Unknown. On 4/13/25 morning, I was with my wife driving towards a park and our car decelerated suddenly from 37 miles to 20 miles and then slowed down. Luckily no driver behind us was close otherwise the car would have crashed. We pulled over to the side of the road and shut off the engine. Restarted and the car seemed to run normal. The dealer who sold this car checked on 4/16/25 and they could not find any problem and asked to bring back if it happens again. We are totally speechless and don't know what to do next.
In January 2023 our vehicle began having numerous issues with sensors, alarms, door locks, the car would turn itself on and drain the battery overnight and at times would not shut off without pulling the main fuse. Through research online it was clear that the problem was the body control module (bcm). There are many, many reports online of the 2018 crv having this problem, so I took it to the dealer and they had never heard of the issue. They tried to do diagnostics but had no way to determine if it was the bcm. Finally, I asked them to just replace the bcm even without a diagnosis, and after 2 months (there were significant back orders of this part) we were able to get it installed in the car and all was fine. Fast forward to last week (April 2025) and it’s starting up again - electronics turning on randomly, battery drain, windows going down in the garage, warning lights all illuminated, dead battery every day - so the bcm that was installed in 2023 has failed again. Honda absolutely knows about this issue as they have a recall for accords. However, I paid $1000 to fix it in 2023 and will no doubt pay at least that much now to do it again. Meanwhile, the car is effectively inoperable and can’t be safely operated on the road. Honda needs to recall this issue and fix it for good.
Title: engine defect – excessive oil consumption and vtc actuator failure my 2016 Honda Cr-v (purchased from mohawk Honda, serviced at rensselaer Honda) developed a serious engine defect after only about 25,000 miles. The vehicle began consuming excessive oil, and later the vtc actuator failed, causing severe loss of power during acceleration and uphill driving, creating unsafe conditions. Dealership confirmed: •excessive oil consumption from stuck piston rings. •white smoke due to oil burning. •vtc actuator and timing damage. •epr cleaning service failed to fix the issue. Despite evidence of a manufacturing defect, Honda denied goodwill assistance. The dealership also gave unsafe instructions (drive 1,000 miles with low oil), which worsened the damage. This defect causes loss of power while driving, which is a serious safety hazard. I request NHTSA investigate Honda’s handling of piston ring and vtc defects. On April 7, 2025, we bought a new 2025 Honda crv ex. After driving it for a few weeks, we noticed that the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) is not functioning. And another safety feature, the forward collision warning (fcw) system is visual only (not audible) and appears only when our vehicle is 5-6 feet from a vehicle in front. Obviously, this distance is insufficient to properly react in order to avoid an accident. According to the car manual, “the cmbs system can assist when it determines there is a possibility of your vehicle colliding with another vehicle in front…an oncoming vehicle in front, a pedestrian, or someone riding a bicycle. Cmbs is designed to alert you when the potential for a collision is determined, as well as assist in reducing speed, avoiding collisions, and reducing collision severity. ” with regard to the non-functioning cmbs, we brought the car back to the dealer several times to check on the lack of this system, but their service department could not detect the cmbs system either. They tested other new Honda crv ex models and even in those cars they could not detect the cmbs system. On June 16, 2025 (received June 18), we sent a letter to Honda headquarters (see attached) asking their assistance in addressing this deficiency. We followed up with 2 phone calls on July 25 and August 13. Unfortunately, to no avail. No response received. From a safety point of view, we are concerned by the lack of the cmbs feature as well as the short distance warning of the fcw system.
The infotainment system goes dark intermittently without warning. The screen blinks, showing the "brightness" feature. Dangerous as using this system to navigate on the highway. I cannot find a TSB or recall for this problem?.

I have purchased a car from a private seller with an altered odometer (mileage discrepancy and now it has all type of lights showing on the dash and car stops running all of a sudden I have taken to Honda dealer for diagnosis and they told us we been fraud on miles and they messed with it electronically.
The hood on the 2025 Honda crv hybrid is loose. When you drive at highway speeds, the hood vibrates and you can hear the metal hook holding the hood down banging.
My 2019 Honda crv has been in and out of shops since April 1st. On April 1st lights popped on on my dashboard the lights were break system lights. All wheel drive system lights, and then the lane keep assist adaptive cruise ect were on and not operational. I looked up what could cause that to happen and it stated rear differential fluid could pop lights on. I took it to the dealership and stated it felt like it was running funny but the lights all went off before I got there but if they could do the rear diff fluid and run diagnostic just to be safe that'd be great. Diagnostic found nothing wrong g with my vehicle. A few days later the same lights came on and then multiple other lights came on, my boyfriend stated it could be electrical maybe spark plugs so we bought them and replaced them. Restarted the car and drove it they went off but then came back on next morning. Next solution was maybe my battery has gone bad. Bought a new battery in hopes it'd work and no luck. We pull out our code reader and it pulls a code for cam shaft position sensors so we purchase those and replace them and still no luck. I finally take it to a repair shop since there's nothing else we can do on our own to fix the issue and the repair shop has a hard time trying to diagnose the issue. They ran codes and tests trying to figure this out they checked the mechanical side of things since the dealership only checked electrical side of things and found that my car had debris in the oil. They began researching and finding the Hondas in my year and make and model with the 1. 5 turbo engines have a class action lawsuit due to oil dilution and after more digging they found that I did indeed suffer from this and would need an engine replacement due to the damage that has been done and that would be around 10k. Honda knowing sold me a vehicle that could have an issue like this. I bought the car used and kept up on all maintenance and now am having my car repossessed because I cant afford the repa.

Cracked driver side mirror due to cold weather. Purchased car yesterday brand new, overnight it was cold and I woke up to a large crack across the side mirror.
The backup camera is grainy / blurry. It is like watching an old video tape from the 80’s.
The sunroof of my Cr-v spontaneously exploded. I was driving on a two lane road and was not near an underpass. There were no vehicles directly in front of me. No objects were found inside the vehicle after the glass shattered. The sunroof made a popping sound and then the glass shattered. The glass blew into the car and onto myself and my passenger. I was able to slowly pull over the vehicle onto a side road. Neither my passenger, nor I, were injured by the glass. This incident could have impacted not only our safety, with the glass coming directly into the car, but could have affected the safety of any oncoming traffic if I had not controlled the vehicle. The glass could have also affected any vehicles directly behind us. I was not on a highway, but if I was, my speed would have been greater and the impact potentially more severe. I had the vehicle towed to the Honda dealer. Honda has replaced the sunroof. The Honda dealer that the vehicle was taken to has not had any other complaints about spontaneously exploding sunroofs.
Both automatic door locks are malfunctioning on the passenger door side. They will not stay unlocked with the vehicle is unlocked. Daughter was choking in backseat & the door would not open unless I pushed the unlocked button and opened the door at the same time.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, there was a very loud explosion (bomb-like) while driving. Parts started flying off the car, including shattered glass. The next day I took the car to the Honda dealership and was told the sunroof had exploded. I was very fortunate that I or anyone in the cars behind me were not injured. Unfortunately, Honda is not covering this as part of my warranty. I currently have a little over 27,000 miles on the car.
None.
I have seen lots of internet posts about exploding sunroofs, well this happened to our vehicle on the freeway. There was no overpass/rocks/cars near and the sunroof exploded, unfortunately my sliding-shade was open when this happened blowing glass debris all over the inside of our vehicle. My [xxx] son and mother-in-law were in the back seat covered in glass. We are very fortunate that no one was injured from this, this seems to be a more common thing and should be addressed from Honda or the glass manufacturers. They need to look into a safer glass design so that this does not cause a bigger freak accident, especially on the freeway. We were also very fortunate that our local Honda dealership stepped up to replace it and offered a clear tint for the inside as protective insurance - just in case it happens again. They also provided us with a car until it was repaired. I did speak to a service writer about this and they said that there have been three other incidents at their dealership. I know there are other car manufacturers that are having problems with this too. This has made me very nervous about riding with my family-of-four with the sliding-shade open now. I hope they can figure this out. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Hi, I've owned this vehicle brand new, 21 miles. I purchased from the dealership. It now has a blown head gasket at 85 k miles. I've spoken to 3 dealerships that have said this is a common problem. I obviously do a lot of driving early morning and late night. This could have been a big safety issue in the dark. I've done all my services on time and even earlier than needed. I hope you can do research on this. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The rear windshield of the car exploded during a routine drive without any apparent cause. The car was inspected by a montgomery county police officer and was driven to the local Honda dealership. The local Honda dealership could not offer any additional insights into the root cause of the incident.
While parking at friend house behind her car partially on sidewalk, had to go fwd and reverse to park correctly. When switching to drive as car was on very slight decline (rear end higher) got sudden engine acceleration. Put in neutral , saw rpm climb to about 3000 rpm and then several seconds later dropped to normal. All past unintended accelerations have been with front end on decline (lower than rear). Happens randomly maybe every few months. Have filed prior reports. Am on alert with hand on gear shift when slowing to a stop now.
Summary of issue: I am submitting this complaint regarding unresolved safety recall issues and recurring emission system failures with my 2018 Honda Cr-v. Safety recall unresolved for over one year: I received a safety recall notice in early 2024 concerning my vehicle’s fuel pump, but despite numerous follow-ups with both Honda customer support and my local dealership, the issue has not been addressed. The necessary parts are not available, and the problem continues to be postponed for over a year, presenting potential safety risks. Emission system disorder: in 2022, I experienced issues with the emission system in my vehicle, and the case was registered under case number 13205072. However, in 2025, the emission system malfunctioned again, and the dealer attributed it to a fuel injector problem. This contradicts the original diagnosis and raises further concerns about a defect in the emission system that may have existed since the vehicle was purchased. Dealer excuse for issue: recently, the dealership has suggested that a faulty fuel injector caused the emission system failure, but I believe the underlying issue could be more serious, potentially related to the recall and the original emission system defect.
All for the safety features light remains on after starting and driving my car. I drive my car for 2 to 3 days per week. The most recent maintenance on my car was the Honda recall and alignment at the dealer. Reading various chats this seems to be a comma issue for the Honda crv. I am concerned if saftey features work and if my sensors are defected. I purchased my car December 2018 with little over 67, 000k miles.
