I had taken my son to a local park for batting practice and when we were ready to leave I had asked my son put the bat and balls in the trunk of the 2004 Honda crv. When my son had pulled the handle to open the trunk, instead of swinging open, the trunk had fallen off as the hinge pin broke. The door fell downward, sustained a left a significant scratch on his leg. Had he not moved quickly the door could have caused a serious injury rather than just a scratch or had my pregnant wife been the one to open it a very serious injury could have occurred. I brought the car to frontier Honda in longmont, CO, and was told they would not cover the fix because I was over the warranty and never had serviced the car with Honda, even though it was kept up on all necessary maintenance). One person at the dealership told me it was clearly a defect, while Honda America , told me it was my own fault for not having the car serviced regularly at Honda. I was so disgusted at their lack of concern for the problem that the very next weekend, I took the car to Toyota and traded it in for a safer vehicle.
