The contact owns a 2013 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that mostly from a stopped position, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer, who stated that the throttle wire cable was non-existent and the electronic system was causing the vehicle to stall. The dealer stated the manufacturer was aware of the issue but at the time, the engineers did not have a remedy available. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. Updated 11-18-13.

I responded to a recall notice for the airbag inflator. I had noticed, immediately thereafter, that my horn and cruise control is inoperable. I contacted service advisor who asked to bring the car back in. She agreed that the mechanism for these inoperable parts is in "close proximity to the air bag inspection areas", for the recall. However, they claim they ". . . Are not liable for the cable reel" and will charge to have it fixed. And just yesterday, in the process of getting my window fixed, the same dealership left out the moisture shield and disabled my door locks which are superficial issues that they somewhat resolved. However, I still do not have a working horn or cruise control because these were consequentially damaged after innocently responding to an airbag recall inspection.

While pulling into traffic from a state highway onto an interstate the accelerator stuck wide open. Before I could assess the problem my speed had reached 80 mph. Using the brakes did nothing. I was only able to gain control and slow the vehicle down by tapping on the accelerator pedal several times. In researching Cr-v's I found that the probable cause is a broken cruise control cable. Note: this has occurred 3 additional times. Note: the cruise control was not activated while this problem occurred.
The contact owns a 2003 Honda crv. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle abnormally accelerated to 70 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic that located the failure at the cruise control cable. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 88,322 and the current mileage was 89,069.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Cr-v. While driving 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle would not stop accelerating. The contact deactivated the cruise control, but the vehicle continued to accelerate. The vehicle had to be turned off in order for the acceleration to stop. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The contact did not notice any prior issues with the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 97,000. Updated 8/10/09 the consumer stated throttle cable frayed and there was no explanation provided. Updated 08/13/09.
I had stopped for a blocked roadway on the interstate. Once I could go, I accelerated. My vehicle continued to accelerate out of control, reaching over 90 mph. I pumped the brake, gas, and was unable to bring the vehicle to a lower speed for over a mile on the interstate. I checked the floor mat and ensured that nothing was in the way. Luckily, traffic had been stopped previous to the out of control acceleration. I took it to Honda and reported the problem. They said the throttle cable was junky and I paid to fix it. I reported the incident then. Today my vehicle accelerated out of control while on the interstate. I was unable to bring the vehicle back down to speed. I applied the brake, emergency brake, put it in neutral, and then took the key out.
The vehicle did not slow when applying the brakes upon approaching a stop sign. The drivers foot was off the gas pedal and on the brake pedal, but the vehicle continued to power forward. Not sure if the brakes were at fault, the driver stopped vehicle by putting the auto transmission into park to avoid going past the stop sign, entering a county highway and being broadsided by oncoming traffic. The engine speed then rose to about 5000 rpm, though the vehicle was at rest, in park, and the accelerator pedal was not being touched. A witness sought to lend some help and suggested that the continually racing engine was perhaps due to a stuck throttle, though a quick look under the hood did not reveal any obvious problem. After several minutes of the engine racing at about 5000 rpm while in park, the driver turned off the ignition and then restarted the engine. The engine continued to race. Only after the third or fourth cycle of turning the engine off and on, and pumping and jiggling the accelerator pedal, did the engine rpms return to normal, allowing the vehicle to be driven to a nearby Honda dealer. The next day, the service department returned the vehicle to the driver saying that they inspected the throttle cable and cruise control, test drove it for 3 miles, but could not find any problems. The behavior of this 2002 Honda Cr-v seems very similar to that outlined by odi id numbers 10073104, 10127008, 10048024, 10083184 & 10055124.
I had just come off the highway and turned onto a state road. I was slowing down for the upcoming intersection, when suddenly the car started speeding out of control and the brakes could not stop my car from slamming into the car in front of me. After the crash, the woman I hit pulled over to the side of the road. I put the car in drive with my foot on the brake and the car revved wildly. This was later noted by the woman I hit, as well. In desperation I turned the key off and let the car roll to the side of the road. The firemen disconnected the battery for safety. When the tow truck driver came, he reconnected the battery cables and the car started itself up and began to rev. The driver said he had never seen anything like it before. I have his name and number. The airbag never deployed and I was fortunate to only receive whiplash and my dog seems ok. The other driver has back problems but was fortunately driving a Nissan xterra that did not get nearly the damage my car received. I am just so thankful that my children were not in the car, and that there were no pedestrians or children in front of me.

While pressing on the brake pedal to slow, the vehicle did not stop. When the consumer's foot was removed from brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated without the consumer placing his/her foot on the accelerator. The dealership indicated that this failure was caused by the throttle cable.
Problems with front brakes on 2003 Honda crv. There was a clunking noise coming from the brakes. When the dealer was notified the stated it was the characteristic of the SUV and there was nothing they could do. The dealer did replace the lower brake pad retainer clips as per service bulletin. The consumer was offered to drive another 2003 crv to prove the noisy brakes were a characteristic of the vehicle. Consumer wasn't happy with this and would like some sort of discount or the dealer to pay off the vehicle. The seat belt wouldn't latch. Consumer had the throttle cable replaced to eliminate the noise but to no avail. Consumer was informed the noise will never go completely away.
April 5, 2003 it was about 9:00 pm. I had just paid my toll on the new jersey side of the river. I was traveling westbound on the ben franklin bridge towards philadelphia. I was traveling about 35 mph and was in the right-hand lane in order to take the exit off to the right to get onto south I-95. This exit ramp is at the bottom of the bridge on the pennsylvania side of the delaware river. As I was nearing the bottom of the bridge, my 1999 Honda crv suddenly accelerated with such high rpms that it surged forward at an extremely rapid rate. It took off on its own so fast that not even the brakes would or could slow it down. I actively applied my brakes but to my horror, my brakes would not work and could not slow down the car. The car kept accelerating uncontrollably. I even pulled up on my emergency brake and tried to maneuver my car as I was traveling at a rapid pace through the traffic and could not stop my car until it crashed into another. This horrific accident totaled my car and resulted in the death of a woman in another car. My injuries kept me in the hospital for a week. A taxi driver had some injuries. He was treated and released. The Honda crv was totalled and the car is being kept in storage, pending further investigation.

While driving 35 mph accelerator pedal stuck. After tapping pedal twice it became unstuck. Then, at 40 mph uphill pedal stuck again, after tapping pedal twice, vehicle did not slow down, consumer shifted to neutral, and shut off engine. Dealer replaced throttle cable.
Concerned about the three safety recall notices on the vehicle. The recalls were concerning the throttle cable, shift cable, and ignition switch key interlock. The consumer doesn't feel safe nor does she feel that she made the correct choice in purchasing the vehicle.
Consumer received recall notifications for the throttle cable and transmission shift cable. When consumer took vehicle to the dealership for recall repairs, dealership informed him that the parts were not available.
After the shift cable NHTSA recall campaign 03v 274000 was performed the vehicle jerked forward when slowing down or stopping. Also, when starting the vehicle it idled high.
