Suspension Problems of Honda CR-V - part 1

The vehicle was purchased Aug 7th and since delivery date the car has been having issues. The primary issue is the infotainment system, the monitor sometimes disconnects from apple carplay abruptly. During the use of this feature the navigation system will also disconnect making it unsafe when using navigation. The vehicle has a persistent problem with squeaking and tapping noise coming from the engine bay area. When going over and bumps or uneven surfaces the car rattles. The vehicle also has worse mpg than advertised. Currently getting 22. 4mpg with econ active.

The frame rust issue was recalled through 2011, my 2012 was manufactured in the same plant same time as the 2011 model, and has the same rust issue, but was not included in the recall. I have significant damage to my vehicle from rust frame, causing it to be borderline unsafe without modification. I would like to have this included in the recall.

Steering feels sticky/jerky when turning left. Front-left tire outer edge is severely worn down, while other tires are normal. Honda recall 24v744 for steering gearbox was completed, but the problem persists. I suspect the steering rack is defective, causing misalignment and abnormal tire wear. This affects vehicle control and safety.

I was driving and the rear tire and suspension broke looked it's completely rotted out.

My car failed the annual massachusetts state safety inspection done on xxx. The areas of failure were frame, front end, and muffler/exhaust. I was advised to not drive the car due to risk of frame failure due to extensive rust. I then brought vehicle to atamian Honda ([xxx]) on xxx pursuant to Honda service bulleting (recall) 23-032. The dealer contacted me later that day to tell me that the car was ready. The service concierge told (1) the car is ready as they did the recall. (2) the technician said that the rust and rot was so sever that they could not put the car on a lift. (3) they could not complete the multi point inspection due to the rust. (4) the technician advised me to not drive the car due to the condition causing an unsafe vehicle. I went to the dealer to sign off on the invoice and arranged a tow of the Honda to my home, as I did not want to risk driving in it. I opened a case with Honda corporate to claim that, despite the dealer's recall being processed, that protocols of the recall process were not followed; specifically, there are 2 fundamental actions that are required in order to properly process this recall: completion of the mpi(multi point inspection) and the placement of the car on a lift. Neither of these were done. Honda corporate contacted me on xxx and, despite my claim on case number xxx, their position is that the dealer performed the recall. My vehicle was taken into automaster Honda, the dealership where I purchased it, on June 11, 2026, for the yearly required vt safety inspection and other minor service. I was told that due to rust holes near the rear trailing arms my vehicle would not pass a safety inspection. Publicly available information indicates that this condition can potentially cause a loss of control of the vehicle, and thus a crash, and presumably, potential loss of life!! there is no recall for this issue in this model year Honda, there is no fix, (even though there was a recall on 2007-2011 model year Hondas for the same issue) and my dealership is not able to recommend anyone who might be able to fix this problem. They can't fix it. According to the service manager at automaster, Honda canada has reportedly been issued a bulletin indicating that this 'problem' is neither a safety or structural issue but no such bulletin has been issued for Honda u. S. He advised me that my vehicle is safe to drive; however, I still cannot get an inspection sticker, without which I could receive a citation, and I am still troubled each time I get in this car. I don't think I could sell this car even if I wanted to because of this issue. The only entity who has inspected my vehicle is the dealership. There were no warning lights or messages and last year, supposedly conducting the same inspection, there was no indication of this problem or I was not informed of one at that time. I am going in July 16 for a necessary brake job, something also recommended on June 11 when I was advised of the trailing arm issue. I can't drive around with worn brakes. Photos attached are from June 11, taken with a technician's cell phone. When I go in on July 16, I will view the damage myself and take my own pictures. On June 11, the vehicle had already been taken off the lift and I could not see the damage myself that day. Thank you.

Goodday, I bought the car a month ago from a dealer on terms. The first time I drove car and turning right its sounds like the wheel or something is about to break off. Like maybe the axel. Extremly loud. Scary loud. No matter speed, turning right does this. I returned car to dealer. They say the router had rust and was corrected. I dont drive the car alot, but again today its making that noise. That pedestrians look worried.

23v228000 recall involving rust on the frame and rear end. Called into Honda and was told that the recall was closed and repairs were made ?? impossible I just bought this vehicle in 02-2026 and was not made aware of anything being done. . No records online either of repairs . Car is very unsafe to be driving.

On 05/06/2026 the vehicle was in for service at the Honda dealership (the automaster, 3328 shelburne rd. Shelburne vt 05482). The inspection report notes "rust holes forming above rear trailing arms, non reparable area, will not pass future state inspection, recommend customer contact Honda of America @ 1-800-999-1009". They also provided a picture of the problem. I took the car to another garage and was informed that yes, this was a real issue and that the garage owner just spoke with someone who had a 2018 crv with the same problem. The Honda dealership sent me a recommendation letter that stated "***rear trailing arms (soon), *** state inspection.

Last night I turned left out of an ally and heard a loud thunk like noise similar to when you run over a rock and it shoots out from under your tire. Noise was in the front passenger side. Thought nothing of it at the time. Then today I heard it again turning into the gas station. Then while driving I heard it once while just taking off from a stop sign and again pulling out of a parking lot. My husband has taken it for a drive of 12 miles and has been unable to recreate the noise. Sounds almost like the spring on the strut is broke or something in that area needs fixed.

The contact had to tie the door shut but was later repaired by her father. The local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. There are known issues with Honda crv’s frames rusting in many states. There was a recall which we had inspection and straps added to strengthen frame. Now, frame has failed and even after filing a case with Honda care in April 2026, they continue to close the case, reopen it when we call back, call us with ring less voice mails so we are never able to talk to any case manager, and leave recorded voicemail for us to call back - and there is no “alexis” case manager. Dealership dahl Honda in rhinelander has been no help and upon initial inspection in April, would not say if safe to drive or not - only would say they forwarded pics and info to Honda care.

The failure mileage was approximately 210,000.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Rear trailing arm mount rusted out frame , had have towed to my house , not drivable and its only vehicle I have.

Where the frame connects to the right rear control arm has broken loose. I had the recall repair done in 2023 for this issue and now it has failed. The dealership said the vehicle is too rusted to repair.

Steering wheel creaks and clunks when moved up and down. My mechanic told me it seems like it is a rack and pinion trouble. Honda crv 2024.

There was a safety recall for the rear arm control and excessive rust, Honda said they fixed it back in 2018… out of no where my car lost control and caused me to crash, I brought the car back to Honda and the rear arm bracket broke off due to excessive rust however Honda states it was repaired and there is nothing they can do, they won’t even look at the vehicle.

Due to excessive corrosion the spring/strut broke while driving. The tire is off at an angle and could have come completely off endangering the driver and other drivers. There was no warning light or any other indication that this was going to happen. The car was taken to a local garage and at the insistence of Honda, it was also towed to a Honda dealership. Both locations deemed the car irreparable and a total loss due to excessive rust and corrosion. Honda has been contacted multiple times and refuses to acknowledge any issues. Even though we were given a case number, there hasn't been any closure to the case.

During the installation of the rear frame bracket (recommended from the 2011 recall), it was determined the vehicle is unsafe. The frame brace recall not designed for the 2012 crv would not fit the vehicle. Notified customer of the condition of the left control arm. Not safe for the road. Recommended not to drive this vehicle.

My 2024 Cr-v ex-l fwd has roughly 37,000 miles on it, and the tires have been rotated per Honda's built-in "maintenance minder". The inner shoulder of all four tires are worn to the extent that they need to be replaced. The rear suspension suffers from excessive negative camber; it is visually discernable upon approaching the vehicle from behind. I asked the service advisor at my local dealership in league city, TX, what they could do about it, since the rear camber is non-adjustable, and his response was that in situations like this, they recommend installation of aftermarket adjustable upper control arms. They, of course, do not install those parts, and, he even indicated that once those were installed, they would no longer perform any alignment of the vehicle. Additionally, that would void any warranty of any rear suspension components. I have since discovered Honda TSB 20-081 for 2017-2020 crvs (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2020/mc-10181080-0001. Pdf). I know, via comparison of part numbers on Honda parts websites, that 2017-2026 Cr-v's all share many of the same rear suspension components. Therefore, I think this is a situation where there is an overarching issue in the suspension design used on the 5th and 6th generation Cr-v (and therefore, also their contemporaries - civic, accord, hr-v, clarity, and Acura integra, which also share components with this design). Additionally, the rear of my Cr-v looks to be 'sagging', and knowing how suspension geometry functions, it leaves me thinking that perhaps the springs specified for the fwd Cr-v (at least) may be too short or have too light of a spring rate, permitting this 'sag', which would then not only result in more negative camber but also increase the toe measurements as well, which would also negatively affect tire life.

The contact stated that while performing an inspection of the vehicle, the contact became aware of severe corrosion on the forward mount of the rear trailing arm mounts on the driver’s and passenger’s sides. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was confirmed that the forward mount of the rear trailing arm mounts on the driver’s and passenger’s sides was severely corroded. In addition, the contact was informed that the corrosion was so severe that the vehicle was not repairable. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The contact was informed that the VIN was one month off from being included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,100.

Lower left trailing arm body mounting bracket rusted away.

It is a 2007 Honda crv . The whole rear and frame and control arm is completely rusted out and rusted into. Was told it is very unsafe to drive and dangerous. And I can’t get Honda to do anything about it .

Malfunction of the Honda crv's rear upper control arms. Yes it will be available to inspect until the 13th of October. Safety risk is the fact there is no more adjustment on the factory installed rear upper control arms. When on the rack and they align the vehicle, they only want a . 5 degree when being done. The factory installed rear upper control arms makes the camber maxed out at 1. 25 degrees to the negative. This causes severe wearing of the tires if they are not watched closely and rotated frequently. Yes. The vehicle has been inspected by a certified shop and the dealership. Yes there was wear on the tires that made me request a four point inspection at the dealership. They did not preform an alignment. Said it was the lack of quality tires installed at the factory that made them wear so badly. This issue is not covered by manufacturing/ extended warranty available. Honda's response "more aggressive tire rotation" to prevent the problem. That is unacceptable. Especially when it is being said right off the alignment rack: "we only want to see a . 5 degree for the toe and camber. This Honda is maxed out and will not move away from that 1. 25 degree mark. " there is such a thing as adjustable upper control arms to prevent the premature wear of tires.

Tpms warning light was on and then entire dash lit up while steering was crooked on the column. Driving while incident occurred did not cause accident. Disabled vehicle due to the same manufactured defects in the 2007 through 2011 Honda crv models that have a recall on them my vehicle was manufactured August 2012 past cutoff date for the gen 3 model. Submitting this request for repair unable to drive the vehicle and it's current condition. This all due to the same manufacturer defect found on the rear control arm gen 3 body type and suspension of the 2007 through 2011 models same gen 3 should be repaired and accepted as a recall having exact same issue because it's the exact same type of model car.

Service bulletin 16-012 was issued for 2013 crv for the vtc actuator. This is obviously an issue that Honda is aware of but is refusing to fix. I’ve had to replace this part twice at the same interval of time. The first replacement was covered under my warranty however now that I am out of warranty this repair costs almost 3,000$. I contacted american Honda who refuses to provide good will even though they are aware this is a known issue. I was advised that if this wasn’t repaired it would be a safety issue. I believe this should be covered on Hondas dime especially if this has to replaced multiple times at no fault of the customer.

Was driving my 2012 Honda crv home from the store when the awd light came on. By the time I got it home another light came on eps. When I got out I noticed the drivers side rear tire looked tilted. Upon further inspection I could see that the control arm had fallen down along with the whole trailing arm from rust. After investigating I learned that there was a recall for this exact thing but only for 2007-2011 models. I called Honda and they told me to get it to a Honda dealership for diagnosis report so I haf it towed there. They said that if ut were the same issue as the recall that they could make an exception after a case manager reviewed everything. The Honda dealership documented that the rust on the underrails of the frame were critical for the overall integrity and safety of the car and that the control arms were rusted and broken through. When I sent everything to Honda, they said that since my VIN was not part of the recall there was nothing they would do for me. There are many more complaints regarding this exact issue for the 2012 models and something needs done before lives are lost. My daughter and I were leaving for a trip the next morning and had I not decided to take my car to the store the night before we would have been on the interstate when the trailing arm and control arm broke and fell which would have been catastrophic while driving at interstate speed, from what I understand. I have only had my 2012 Honda crv for 3 months and it only has 120k miles on it. These models need a recall ASAP as they are extremely dangerous!.

Vehicle: 2025 Honda Cr-v sport-l hybrid date of purchase: April 2025 date problem first noticed: April 2025 complaint summary: I purchased a brand new 2025 Honda Cr-v sport-l hybrid in April 2025. Since the day I brought the vehicle home, I have noticed a persistent clanking or metal-on-metal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, especially noticeable when driving over minor bumps or rough pavement at low to moderate speeds. This issue was reported to the dealer, and in June 2025, they attempted a repair by replacing the rear shock absorber and a rear rod assembly. However, the noise returned within weeks, and by mid-July 2025, it has become significantly worse. Now, the clanking sound is loud and alarming, resembling something coming loose or at risk of falling off. It has reached the point where I feel unsafe driving the vehicle, especially on highways or interstates. I am concerned that a suspension or structural component may fail, potentially leading to a loss of control or an accident. The fact that this issue has persisted despite repairs and is worsening raises serious concerns about the safety and structural integrity of the rear suspension system on this model. --- additional notes: the noise occurs whether the vehicle is loaded or empty. It is especially pronounced when driving over uneven roads, minor bumps, or potholes. I have checked the cargo area for loose items—this is clearly a mechanical issue. The service team initially acknowledged the issue and attempted a fix, but the recurrence suggests either a design flaw or improper rear component durability. Given that other owners have reported similar noises and rear-end suspension issues on owner forums, I believe this may not be an isolated case. --- ?? safety concern: due to the intensity of the noise and the sensation that rear components may detach, I no longer feel confident driving the vehicle at highway speeds. This poses a serious safety hazard to myself.

My 2014 crv has 83,131 miles and I am a careful driver and like to keep my vehicle in top shape. The service done was replaced outer tie rod ends that were cracked and I could have lost control , replaced front lower control arms, replaced front struts, replaced rear sway bar bushings, reseal coolant passage housing , head gaskets, my vehicle could have quit in traffic. The top of my crv has paint faded and gone to a white powder look. There are things that a car with low miles driven carefully and taken very good car of should not be happening. There should be recalls because there are issues with timing chains and fuel system. I am scared to drive it anymore. I won't stay loyal to Honda now and I am very disappointed that they know these issues and haven't attempted to fix them.

The car was being driven and the rear wheel and hub assembly all came off. Luckily, the car was being driven at a slow speed at the time. The problem turned out to be that the rear frame was all completely rusted out and where it was connected it all pulled out. After doing some research, there was a recall on the previous years for the exact same thing. Evidently, the problem still was not taken care of. If the car would have been a few months older it would have been covered under the recall. The car was taken to the dealership and had the factory rep look at it but they refused to do anything.

Complete rear tire assembly came loose from the unibody frame from rust. Not a drop of rust on the body of the car. Thank god we weren’t on the highway. They told me it was unfixable. Thank you Honda. And the recall stopped at 2011? Honda obviously doesn’t care about safety and human life.
