36 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/26/2023

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated while driving 25 mph, the rear passenger's side of the vehicle collapsed inadvertently. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact noticed that the rear passenger's side wheel had detached and rotated 90 degrees into the wheel well. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who determined that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 23v228000 (structure). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the vehicle had failed the recall inspection test. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was beyond repair and could be repurchased by the manufacturer per the recall remedy. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened; however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

38 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 10/16/2023

Good afternoon, I'll try to keep this as brief as possible; I'm sure you can recontact me if you need additional information. This is not an incident, rather an issue related to the current recall 23v-228 for my 2010 Honda crv. In 1/2023, the garage advised my Honda would not pass maine state safety inspection due to the severe rust on the frame and where the left rear lower control arm (lca) attached to the frame. They advised it could detach/break off, and my ability to steer safely to a stop would be affected. I took it to the Honda dealership and they confirmed it was unsafe to drive unless the rust and frame could be repaired. The dealer did not mention this was a common problem or any upcoming recalls for this issue. In 2/2023, I found a body shop that was able to repair the corrosion on the frame and the connection point for the lca. I paid $1600, and the car passed maine state safety inspection at the same garage that identified the problem. In 5/2023, I received the Honda safety recall referenced above, which states "you may be eligible for reimbursement if you paid for recall repairs out of pocket. " I called the 888 # on the recall, received an email from american Honda, and replied to their email with the documents they requested, including the repair invoice. After recontacting american Honda a second time in 8/23, and a third time in 9/23, they advised they did not receive the document in 5/23, and I should resend the repair invoice. I received a call from american Honda on 10/16/2023, during which time they stated I was not eligible for reimbursement. This was due to the fact the repair invoice did not specifically state: “trailing arm holder kit was replaced”. My case (#13856978) was closed. I read in a part 574 safety recall report, "owners who have paid to have these repairs completed at their own expense will be eligible for reimbursement, in accord with the recall reimbursement plan on file with NHTSA. " do I qualify for reimbursement?.

39 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/21/2023

Ref: NHTSA recall #23v-228 we are requesting that the recall be reopened and revised to add complaint regarding smail Honda located 5043, rt 30, greensburg, PA 15601 who damaged our car when doing the recall. The dealership damaged the vehicle when they did recall attachment of braces, to the point where it will no longer pass required PA safety inspection. On 9/21/23 we took our car to smail Honda village in greensburg for Honda campaign: ue3 related to corrosion of the rear frame on our 2007 Honda crv. According to the reason for the recall “corrosion can form in the rear frame” and “the rear frame can deteriorate”. In the recall notice, we were told: “your Honda dealer will inspect the rear frame for corrosion…. If the rear frame cannot be repaired, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle from you. ” my husband was told that the corrosion was so bad in the rear of the vehicle that it will not pass inspection. If it cannot pass the next PA state inspection, then essentially, it should be considered unsafe to drive. This would appear to represent the “spirit” of the recall which is to get unsafe Honda cars off the road and save lives. Nevertheless, the dealership did not offer to repurchase the vehicle as they should have done but they continued to attach the brace to this severely rusted frame which they, themselves, have determined is so bad that it will not pass inspection. The dealership has failed to remedy the dangerous corrosion of the rear frame in this vehicle which is the basic intent of the recall, and we are extremely dissatisfied with the attempt to remedy this safety issue. We are requesting that Honda repurchase this vehicle and indicated in recall notice.

40 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/16/2023

Car cames to a stop and instead of stopping straight up it stops and the car frame and suspension still moves. The suspension can cause a wreak for not stoping in time. Also when I put it in neutral it goes backwards on flat ground other then forward. So something is wrong with the shifter or the sway bars also when u put it in park some times it still moves forward.

41 Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/13/2023

I have a 2009 Honda Cr-v that had a recall performed on 9/13/23. After the recall was performed the car is still not safe. But Honda is saying the car is safe even though it will not pass nys inspection after the recall was performed. I first called Honda on 9-14-23 and they wanted documents from dealership saying it’s unsafe. On 9-18-23 the dealership put the car through nys inspection and failed because of the area to do with the recall. Sent this information into Honda. They didn’t get back to me until I called back. They went on to say the whole underside of car is bad which is not true. Then trailered car to 3 different shops. All 3 shops said the unsafe part is where the recall was performed. Sent this information into Honda and again they pushed me off basically saying not there problem. I have not driven the car since the recall has been performed. The person I spoke to at Honda went on to tell me they performed an inspection that meets NHTSA standards for the recall. But I’m wondering if it doesn’t meet nys inspection standard how can they say it’s safe for me to drive ?.

44 Suspension problem of the 2004 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/20/2023

The rear trailing arm broke loose from the frame causing the wheel to twist back into the wheel well. It is now at my garage and could be inspected. This happened at about 45 miles per hour causing me to take evasive action so as not to cause an accident. There was no warning lamps affiliated with the suspension system.

45 Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/15/2023

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to complete a right turn, he heard an abnormal popping sound emanating from the front right of the vehicle. The contact also stated that when driving over a bump, the vehicle briefly drifted to the right. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the passenger side front lower control arm. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA campaign number 12v124000 (suspension), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 178,000.

46 Suspension problem of the 2023 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/14/2023

Vehicle had sudden clunking noise near right front tire when being driven. Vehicle had tpms light on. Vehicle has never been in a car accident, never has hit a bump at a high speed, and has never been crashed into anything. I was alarmed and scared of the sudden loud clunking noise. I took it immediately to the norm reeves Honda center to get vehicle inspected. As I drove it to the Honda center I drove slow and with precaution in fear of the car malfunctioning on the road. The vehicle was inspected by service department and confirmed that there was an faulty issue and the vehicle must stayed from 8/12/2023 to 8/14/2023 for repairs. I received a call from Honda center and they informed me that the vehicle had the following issue. “right front sway link nut loose during inspection & found tire pressure was uneven”. Inspector reported that the loose nut issue came from factory and that it was indeed a faulty sway link. Honda center did the following to repair the issue, “retighten nut & reset tire pressure to factory specs” I now have picked up vehicle from Honda center and the tpms light reappeared once again. I still feel uneasy driving the vehicle. I feel uneasy knowing that my vehicle had a faulty sway link and could have potentially caused me to loose control of the steering wheel, flip/roll over and killed/injured me and/or others in a car accident. I am fearful that the nut from the sway link can loosen up again and put me at risk of danger once again.

47 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 08/09/2023

On 08/09/23 at 1108 hours, I called langdale Honda in valdosta, GA. I told them of the current recall on my vehicle. It was verified via VIN, and then I was discouraged from bringing in the vehicle. I was told that the recall applied to northern cars that suffered from salt and snow exposure, and that my vehicle should be ok. It clearly states in the recall notice that mud can also be a factor. I reminded the associate of that. I also reminded the associate of federal law. Thereafter, he said that I could bring the vehicle in if I desired; however, I was concerned because I bought my vehicle used. I don't know its history, and don't know from where it originally came. I did not make an appointment with langdale due to mistrust.

48 Suspension problem of the 2018 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/29/2023

I am writing today because I am trying to avoid and accident involving injury and possible death as a result of a situation which is present on on above referenced 2018 Honda crv, with just 54,000 miles on the odometer, we are needing to consider replacement on what would be our 3rd set of tires, as the result of premature tire wear, on the rear axle, because there is no adjustment to the upper rear control arm, we have purposefully rotated the tires and still experience premature tire wear on the inside shoulder of the tire. I consider this situation to be a manufacturing defect, as we have attempted several 4-wheel alignments, and have been told that without an adjustable rear upper control, no positive results can be reached. I am attaching a photo of one of the tires showing extreme tire wear on the inside shoulder of the tire,.

50 Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/23/2023

On June 8th 2023 I brought my car into a Honda service center to be inspected per safety recall 23v-228. After inspection I was told that the rear frame was severely rusted out but that the shop could not do anything about it. I was given my vehicle back and told it was safe to drive and that Honda of America would be reaching out to me in a few days. Approximately 2 weeks passed with no word from Honda and the rear trailing arm fell off my car while driving home from work. This is exactly what the recall was supposed to prevent from happening. This was confirmed when the car was subsequently towed back into the shop. Now, Honda of America has been working on a repurchase offer that was supposed to take 2 weeks and it has since been nearly two months with no additional information. According to the recall, Honda was supposed to remedy this situation within 60 days of the car being brought in for initial inspection. As of today it has been 77 days. Honda refuses to answer any of my emails or pick up the phone with repeated attempts.

51 Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/18/2023

Passenger rear trailing arm broke off from body mount. Vehicle is still available for inspection. Coming to a stop sign and car came to an abrupt stop. Something had stopped the car before I even got to the stop sign. Coming down to the stop sign car began to lost steering and swayed back and forth. Car is in very good condition has 138,100 miles on it. But now it can,t be driven cant be fixed and be safe. Still books for $3200. 00. Our family was left vulnerable to a horrible accident if going any faster when this happened. Broke down on a back road at 10:30 p. M. Close to a stop sign. Had to be towed. A recall of the 2007 to 2011 Cr-v. Stated that this happens to those models. They didn't go back far enough on this recall and if I hadn't told people who still have the 2005- 2006 model they wouldn't have known and this could happen to them. Vehicle was inspected by insurance CO. And Honda dealership and reported to Honda corp. Rust no coverage or repair for this vehicle. Mechanic looked at can't repair and make safe. Same problem as those vehicles recalled. But because it wasn't on the recall list there is nothing they can do about this vehicle. This left me, my loved ones vulnerable to a serious accident if I had been on a freeway let alone on any road going 50 and above in speed. No warnings what so ever that this could happen. No messages, no lamps no letters from Honda nothing.

52 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/16/2023

I thought I needed new brakes put on because my brakes sounded like they were grinding and they were going to the floor so I had new brake pads out on but my mechanic said the brake pads were fine he replaced them anyways. I went to have an oil change and a different mechanic said that I needed and alignment but my entire back end frame was rusted and corroded. He said if I got an alignment my back end would collapse because the suspension is bad. When I go to brake my brakes go to the floor so I'm guessing thats from the suspension being messed up. He said it's not safe to drive.

53 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/13/2023

This year, a 2008 Honda crv encountered an issue wherein one of the bolts on the rear trailing arm, a crucial component of the vehicle's suspension system, became lodged and partially snapped off within the rear frame of the car. This occurrence had the potential to adversely affect the vehicle's stability and handling. Coinciding with, Honda issued a recall notice for select crvs this year. The recall was prompted by concerns about the potential development of rust and corrosion within the rear frame of these vehicles. The recall's primary objective was to address potential structural complications, such as rust-related issues with bolts and the rear suspension, which had the potential to compromise the overall safety and integrity of the crvs. Upon inspecting the affected 2008 Honda crv, a Honda dealership concluded that the issue involving the lodged and snapped bolt in the rear trailing arm was not directly attributable to the rust and corrosion covered by the recall notice. Consequently, Honda clarified that they could not assume responsibility for this specific problem, and the scope of the recall did not extend to cover the situation of a snapped bolt within the rear frame. In response to the situation and to mitigate potential risks, the Honda dealership proactively implemented measures. They reinforced both sides of the rear trailing arm by securely attaching a sub-bracket to the vehicle's frame. This additional structural support was designed to ensure the proper attachment and functionality of the rear trailing arm. However, since Honda's assessment indicated that the issue of the lodged and snapped bolt was distinct from the rust and corrosion specified in the recall, the vehicle's servicing was only partially addressed, leaving it in an unsafe state. The dealership recommended a nearby body shop sponsored by Honda. This body shop conveyed that the issue should be raised with Honda, as they believed the problems were interconnected.

54 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/07/2023

On June 7, 2023, I took my 2010 Honda crv to the Honda dealer for two safety recalls. 1. Airbag recall: they repaired the airbag. 2. Rust recall "rear frame brace safety recall": when I dropped the car off, they inspected it and said the rust recall could not be completed because of the severe rust. They issued me a rental until they could complete the process for a possible buy-back. They then called me to say the rust recall "repair" was complete. When I went to pick up the care, they said they could not pass it through inspection. I then took it to my local repair shop for inspection and they said it could not pass. The mechanic showed me underneath the severe rust damage. He lightly touched it with a screwdriver and chuncks of rust fell to the floor. Even though Honda placed two small brackets under the car, the rust is very severe. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. Also, I feel vulnerable to being pulled over because of the expired inspection sticker. Please advise as to what to do. This is my only vehicle and I depend on it to get to work, etc. I do have photos of the underneath of the car showing the rust and the repair brackets.

55 Suspension problem of the 2011 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/02/2023

The "rear frame deterioration" recall was performed by the dealer, Honda of keene, nh, within the requirements set out by Honda. However, the service manager at the dealer tells me the same corrosion that initiated the recall is severe and still does not allow the vehicle to pass safety inspection in my state. Therefore, I cannot use the car and is has no resale value. Per the intent of state safety inspection the car remains unsafe. He has indicated this same concern to Honda USA directly with no response to him. He has photographs of the corrosion that he offered to Honda also with no response. I have had a conversation with "arla" at Honda USA customer service regarding this problem on June 2nd or 3rd. They are not willing to offer me any alternative, such as a full frame repair or to repurchase if the vehicle from me. The car has been at the dealer for approximately three months now pending resolution. I have called Honda USA again requesting they call me back for the past two weeks with no response. I propose that Honda has not satisfied the recall as the vehicle remains unsafe.

56 Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

Vehicle was taken in may to have the corrosion recall procedure completed. While at the dealership it failed the inspection and was told it would be bought back. After 10 weeks and many phone calls received an offer that was a slap in the face for an offer. Representatives were dismissive in nature and dodged my questions. Faced with either the option of accepting a low offer or spending money out of pocket to fix it personally was a terrible option. Dealer and Honda both refused to fix my vehicle even though the corrosion is not the issue at hand since the threads of the trailing arm were messed up by the dealership.

57 Suspension problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/06/2023

I have owned my Honda since it had 11 miles on it, brand new in the parking lot I took it home. I’ve noticed in the past few months since September of 2022 ish the lane assist, and lane departure do not work now. Out of 100 times I drive the lane keep only works maybe 5/100 times. I called the dealership explaining how it’s a safety concern if it ever defected. And it’s not keeping me in the lane or even trying to read the lines on the road. The dealer wanted $199 just to look at it. I ended up watching a youtube video, disconnecting and cleaning my battery, resetting all systems and computer. It fixed it for a day, then stopped working again. I haven’t taken it to the dealer because I can’t afford $199 hair for them to look at it. Also, my car is four years old and I’ve had fluid leaking out of the bottom of my car since I bought it. My mechanic and I both thought it was an oil leak. Then assumed it was factory oil from the new engine or the ac unit. Well at my last state inspection Honda wanted $1200 because my right front strut was leaking fluid. Which explains the wobbliness and uneven drive in the vehicle. I just had my tires replaced and the vehicle drives very unstable. I spent $250 on the part online and replaced it myself and it has been corrected but now I need a $130 alignment from Honda. Not been in an accident but I grew up in a mechanic family. I do all of my own maintenance with a family member on a lift.

58 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

Vehicle rear frame broke while driving and had towed to brown Honda in toledo ohio to look at it. At the same time Honda recall 23v228 came out from the NHTSA where Honda acknowledged this rear frame issue and under that recall the dealer was required to either repair the vehicle or purchase it from the owner. Brown Honda verbally said the vehicle was non-repair able and they weren't going to do anything else because it was "too old. " we called Honda corporate and they refused to do anything until brown put the "unrepairable notice" in the system. We called brown Honda again and contacted them a 3rd time via email and each time they have refused to do anything else or even respond, but have told us again it isn't repairable and too old. Brown then told Honda corporate that they did not even have the vehicle. , so we took a picture of it sitting in the brown lot with the dealership sign and sent it to Honda. Honda contacted brown again then came back to us and told us they couldn't force brown to do anything and at this point brown was refusing to take it any further. Honda corporate then told us they were not going to do anything further either since brown would not put the ticket in the system saying it was unrepairable, then told us they were going to close our case #13753343 in Honda's system. Their final suggestion (Honda corporate) was to try towing it to a different dealer and see if they would do something. So at this point, Honda and their dealers are failing to abide by the recall notice and should be subject to fines. They are costing us more money by having us now try having it towed to other dealerships until I guess we find one that will follow the recall agreement. Note: ms. Schroeder (owner of vehicle) is fighting cancer and I (gerald anderson) am helping her with this, I am her son-in-law, I will attach her mailing address to the complaint but my phone # and email address.

59 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/29/2023

While driving down the road, the car began to shake, and I noticed my passenger tire looked weird and thought maybe I had a flat tire. I pulled over to change the tire out. Upon further inspection, I saw that the trailing arm had rusted and broken off of the chassis. Luckily, I was driving slowly and on a rural road, but at higher speeds I believe it would have caused me to lose control of the vehicle. There were no warning indicators that something was going wrong. I searched online to see if the problem would be covered under my insurance and saw the recall that had just been issued by Honda for the same problem. (I have not received a letter in the mail yet so I had no idea the recall had been issued. ) the vehicle has not yet been inspected. I called my nearest Honda dealer and they said they can not fix it as Honda has not sent out a remedy yet and gave me the number to Honda. I called them and they said they can't do anything until they find a remedy and mail the recall information to owners. I am now out of a vehicle suitable for my job and worry how I will be able to support my family when Honda has no answer and no remedy and is unwilling to help me solve the problem. I hope this recall gets sent out quickly before it puts anyone else's life at risk.

60 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/24/2023

Honda crv subject to NHTSA recall 23v-228. I called the dealer who confirms vehicle recall and informed me Honda has no parts available to carry out the recall. Called Honda customer service, phone agent initially said vehicle has been recalled, and I can get reimbursed for parts needed to fix it. I explained Honda dealer said no parts available. Honda csr after a brief hold said upon further review, that my vehicle has not been recalled. I told her that contradicted her initial information, the NHTSA web site, the Honda recall web site and my conversation with the dealer. The crv was purchased in a rust belt state and operated in a rust belt state for approximately 14 years. I explained several times to Honda csr that this wasn't a simple broken radio recall, but a safety recall indicating that the vehicle could crash when something breaks on the rear axel when driven. Honda again said my vehicle had not been recalled.

No sounds beforehand to indicate their would be a malfunction. The control arm was detached from the rusting but other components broke from the frame rusting and wheel coming loose on the hwy. Honda has issued a recall for 2007-2011 crvs due to rust leading to failure of the rear trailing arms. Manufacturer recall numberxdz NHTSA recall number23v-228 however, Honda has limited its recall only to 22 states and DC, claiming only those use road salts. This is overly limited. Many states use road salts in parts of the state, including California and nevada, where I live. The official city of reno website clearly states that my city uses a 24% salt brine solution on roads in the winter. Areas of California directly adjacent to reno also use similar salts, and many other "dry and warm" states also have mountainous areas where snow and ice cause the use of road salt. . Read more...

On March 15, 2023, I was driving on clear, dry pavement at approx. 50 mph when I heard a loud bang from the rear of my Honda Cr-v and almost lost control of my steering. I maintained enough control to stay on the roadway and brought the car to a stop after about 200 yards. I had the car towed to my regular mechanic who told me that the suspension had fallen away from the frame of the car and it wasn't fixable. I contacted Honda at an 800 number and was told that I needed to have a Honda dealership confirm the problem, which I did. After further research online, I found out that Honda of canada had issued a recall for certain year models of my car for a corrosion issue that would cause a failure in the part that connects the suspension to the frame. I then contacted Honda of north America requesting help; I was informed that Honda recalls vehicles solely by VIN, and there was no recall issued for mine. So here I sit with a useless car and no recourse.
