2 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/17/2018

On August 17, 2018 my Honda Fit stopped moving while I was driving on the entry ramp of a freeway. It was towed to repair shop where I was told the #2 spark plug was damaged. They installed a thread insert and replaced the ignition coil and spark plug and it cost $812. 55. The mechanic said that the spark plug popped out because it was not installed correctly. When I asked for reimbursement for the repair at the Honda service center that had done the 100,000 major service on the Honda three years ago, I was told the warranty had expired and they would not reimburse me. I have since researched the problem online and discovered that problems with spark plugs popping out or blowing out in Honda Fits are not uncommon and that occurrence is extremely dangerous. If I had been warned of this potential problem I could have had it checked out and avoided the expense as well as the dangerous break-down when entering a freeway. I am including the repair receipt.

3 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/12/2018

I brought my Honda Fit 2012 to my mechanic with issues of a misfire in cylinders 1 and 2. He thought it was a simple replacement of the spark plugs (only 51,000 miles on the car) and maybe a coil pack replacement. Once he removed the spark plugs from cylinders 1 and 2, he saw the tip of one of the spark plugs ground had broken off into the cylinder head and the coil packs and spark plugs were worn and covered in a blackish soot. He informed me that this meant that the spark plugs has wiggled loose over time and extreme pressure had caused this issue. And since no one has ever touched my engine, beyond a Honda dealership for an oil change, that this was a manufactures defect when installing the plugs in the first place. All the movement caused the threads to wear away on cylinder 2, so I took to my local dealership thinking it would be covered by Honda, but they less than helpful. They stated my mechanic had no idea what he was doing, and did the damage. They said there are no current recalls or campaigns, but it took me 10 secs on the internet to find TSB's issued by Honda, nothing the exact same issue I am having! this has put me in a fight with Honda of America to cover this very costly repair.

4 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 05/29/2017

Car has been stalling taken it to several mechanics plus the dealership and they can't find the problem. Today was the worse it stalled 3 times at a drive thru and twice while at a busy intersection. It seems the car stalls more often if the air condition is on I do not feel safe driving around with my windows rolled down plus high temps. Today I noticed the car accelerated after idelling at a traffic light since I am not the primary driver I don't know how long this has been going on. Between the stalls and speed acceration I am a nervous wreck driving this car. The mileage on car 108000 and it is an automatic VIN# jhmgd38478so47374.

6 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

Took 2013 Fit to dealer due to car noise underneath and car wanting to stall at stops, or while waiting for lights to change. Mechanic found debris/part of a feather on map sensor of which he kept. I was told that this rarely ever happens to Honda cars and warned that my extensive warranty that I purchased does not cover debris from roads. I am shocked to read that there are vents below the license plate holder near the road, wide enough to significantly expose the engine to damage from road debris such as a big rock, this causes road debris to enter and hit the a/c condenser only inches behind the opening. In my case, one week after taking my car to the dealer for stalling caused by map sensor debris I had a car accident. The front bumper fell off the Honda Fit and exposed 4 very large, although dead, intact birds next to my engine with many feathers, two on each side of the front bumper. The police office told me to contact Honda as they needed to be made aware of the problem. I called the dealership and they denied any responsibility. Told me that I can contact the national center for dispute settlement located in my car manual if I wanted. I am terrified to drive this car. Why hasn't Honda been forced to provide a grill cover or other form of protection?? I strongly feel that the Honda Fit 2013 is a very dangerous vehicle and may caused me many costly repairs. I hope someone hears me and addresses this problem before a fatal accident occurs. Additionally, I have pictures of the four large adult birds lying inside the front bumper of my car as evidence that Honda "must" address this issue as soon as possible.

7 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/11/2015

My 2008 Honda Fit stalls every time I put the clutch in for the first 4-6 minutes. When I put the clutch in to stop it stalls as soon as I engage clutch. This happens at slow speeds as well as faster speeds for the first several minutes. I have had spark plugs replaces, valve timing fixed, new battery, gas tank cleaner run through, fluids changed. Nothing has mede it any different. It won't sustain idle initially. Stalls in turns if clutch put in or too low of speed for second in a corner. It has been happening for about 2 years. At about 150000.

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

Rough idling and stalling. Tried lots of things to fix: tune up, replaced spark plugs, fuel injectors cleaned, replaced clutch, valve adjustment -- nothing fixed it. Dealership now says a spring in the engine's variable valve timing system has failed. Problem causes increased risk of collision. There is a recall for the 2009/2010 models, but none for 2008. Honda Fit recall #11v101000, r66. Same problem. Recall date needs to be extended.

15 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

16 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

2008 Honda Fit (automatic) stalls when vehicle is in "drive" when driving at a slow/decreased speed (parking into a parking spot or starting to accellerate from a stop) or when stopped at a stop sign or stop light. There are no "service indicator lights on". This stall in the engine occurs regardless if vehicle is cold or warmed up. Honda dealership suggested replacing the transmission fluid. Cost $210. 00. Paid for service to be preformed at Honda dealership. My car stalled again the next day. I hesitate to drive in traffic because stall is intermittent and do not want to cause a vehicle collision. Vehicles driving behind me have no idea when vehicle is going to stall instead of moving. Very high potential for collisions. There is a Honda recall for the 2009 and 2010 Honda Fit for this same problem. I believe the 2008 should be included in the same recall (see below). Recall id # 86874 - engine and engine cooling recall date Feb 17, 2011 component engine and engine cooling model affected Fit potential units affected 97201 recall date: Feb 17, 2011 model affected: 2009 Honda Fit summary: Honda is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 Honda Fit vehicles. There is a potential for one or more of the four spring assemblies on the engine's variable valve timing and lift electronic control (vtec) system to fail. Consequences: a failure of the spring assemblies may cause the vehicle to stall during operation increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: dealers will inspect and replace the spring assemblies in the engine if necessary free of charge. The safety recall began on March 7, 2011. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. . 18 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/05/2012

In the morning, I turn the car on and put the car into gear and begin to move. When I come to my first stop the car stalls out. This happens every morning. Once I start the car back up it runs fine and does not stall out. I have searched many blogs and see that many people are having this issue. I would like a recall to be made for this since it seems to be a common problem on Honda Fit models 07/08. I have an appointment to have this looked at this week, however from my research it seems that people have had little luck with the dealerships. . Read more...

19 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/08/2011

Dec. 8th, 2011 - 18694 miles Dec. 8th, 2012 - 24941 miles Dec. 21st, 2012 - 25225 miles March 30th, 2013 - 28300 miles the problem is that suddenly the car losses power while driving, it does not respond to any action and stalls; the engine and vsa lights come on. The exact same incident occurred at each one of the dates provided. Every time this happened I took the vehicle to the dealership service department, got it back supposedly fixed, and with the assurance that the problem had been taken care of, obviously this is not the case. The problem persists, the car has broken down on an average of every 3,000 miles. From the very first time, besides been told by the service advisor (mary roe) at courtesy Honda in sanford, FL; I knew without any doubt that we were dealing with a safety issue. I am submitting the information pertinent to these occurrences because my confidence in this car is compleatly eroded since the nature of the problen could definitely be the cause of a crash, injury or death. I consider myself fortunate enough to have been driving on local roads every time this problem has occurred, the result of this type of malfunction on an expessway could certainly have been disastrous. Since March 30th, 2013 the car has been in the shop, and it has proven difficult communicating with Honda. Their willingness to assist me with this less than safe and unreliable vehicle, seems to be decreasing rapidly with each new incident. Any assistance your office provides on this matter will be immensely appreciated. Maria e. Esh-sheikh.

22 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

The same recurring problem has been happening for about a year or so. In the morning when I start my car, especially worse in the winter, my car will stall out 2 to 3 times just while warming up. When the engine is warm and I start to drive it stalls out in the road at least 1 or 2 more times. I have had the Honda dealer I bought my car from as well as my mechanic look at it and have not been able to diagnose the problem for about a year now. I have had valves and sensors changed as well as battery and had fuel injectors clean. It is incredibly unsafe to drive in these conditions especially with it stalling out in the middle of busy intersections. Something must be done.
