Earlier today I paid $2,605 to have 4 fuel injectors replaced on a 2018 (75,000 miles) Honda Fit at davis Honda in burlington new jersey. I see that earlier Honda Fits have a service bulletin/extended warranty on the fuel injectors that would have covered me [xxx] ). I also see that many of their other 2018 cars have service bulletins for similar fuel injector issues [xxx] ). It appears that this is a widespread issue that Honda should be addressing. Is there someone I could speak to about this? this is not Honda quality. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Fit. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. While driving approximately 55 mph or faster, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The contact stated while driving at slower speeds, the vehicle was wobbling. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that there was a misfire coming from all 4-cylinders. The mechanic test-drove the vehicle and the passenger’s side front axle shaft detached from the vehicle. Due to the failure, the dealer was unable to further diagnose the vehicle to determine what parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted; however, the contact was unable to speak with the mechanic. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,500. The VIN was unavailable.

Carbon buildup with misfire dtcs. Honda published a service bulletin but is refusing to cover the necessary repair. We are paying out of pocket for the known issue that they have extended warranty coverage on for some other vins but refuse to cover this one.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the spark plugs were replaced twice, and the catalytic converter was replaced at the contact's expense before the failure. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to an unknown local dealer, where it remained for further diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to Honda TSB number: 22-002; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

All warning lights cycle through on vehicle dashboard after turning on vehicle. Vehicle was taken to Honda auto service center, where issue is diagnosed as carbon buildup, causing misfires. Error diagnostic code is one of p0300 - p0304. After maintenance, error clears out. However, there is a Honda service bulletin 23-042 which provides a warranty extension for Honda Fits of the same year, make, and model with the same issue, which my vehicle's VIN was not included as eligible. Issue of carbon buildup causing misfires may apply to other VIN ranges than in that bulletin, as accounted by NHTSA id #11462041, #11490506, #11549767, and #11593466.

The check engine light came on. The vehicle was shaking/sputtering when idling. We took it into the dealership and they said we needed to replace the fuel injectors, despite the vehicle not even having 60,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2011 Honda Fit. The contact stated while driving uphill at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The maintenance warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil and fuel. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle fully, the fuel gauge displayed a half tank. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics, the dealer, and a second dealer, the auto connection (10910 midlothian tpke, richmond, va 23235), where it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,691.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while entering the driveway while idling, the accelerator pedal was not depressed when the vehicle accelerated inadvertently. The brake pedal was then depressed but failed to respond. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a building, a hose, and a palm tree where it came to a stop. The vehicle remained at the scene of the crash. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact sustained injuries to both knees and medical attention was required. A police report was not filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
After replacing fuel injectors recently I have no warning lights on but the car has been stalling and pulling. Today on the freeway as I attempted to accelerate from 30 mph my car jerked and pulled 3 times harshly almost causing an accident. Still no warning lights and this has happened multiple times. I have submitted a prior concern and it has not been addressed and the problem only continues and has gotten worse.
I am the owner of a Honda Fit, and I am reporting a persistent and worsening issue that began during the winter of 2024. The vehicle produces a rattling noise during cold start-ups, which has become increasingly loud and frequent over time. This vehicle has only 89,646 miles, which is considered relatively low mileage for a modern engine to begin exhibiting such symptoms. This suggests that the issue is not due to normal wear and tear, but rather a premature mechanical defect. Based on my research and discussions with other Honda owners, this issue appears to be linked to a defective variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator, a problem that has been documented in other Honda models and addressed through technical service bulletin 16-088. I am concerned that this is not merely a cosmetic or nuisance issue. The noise suggests a mechanical defect that could lead to premature engine wear or even total engine failure if left unaddressed. Given the number of similar complaints across various Honda models, I believe this may be a manufacturing defect that warrants further investigation. I respectfully request that Honda acknowledge this issue in the Honda Fit and take appropriate action, whether through a recall, extended warranty, or goodwill repair program. I am also submitting this report to the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) for further review.
Four dashboard warning signs (check engine light, tire pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability assist system, electric power steering) appeared all at once suddenly. I had the vehicle towed to my local Honda dealership. They gave me a diagnostic code of p0304 and insisted that the repair did not fall under my car's active warranty. I searched the web and found it is a common problem in Honda Fits. Some 2019 Honda Fits have an extended warranty for fuel injection replacement, but it is not applicable to my car for an unknown reason. Relevant service bulletins: 23-042 and 21-007.
Recall notice for starter system, took in for repair, part in notice replaced but car now not starting again and had starter system lights on again. As per service records car has has the problems since 2016/17 while under warranty and recall repair done at Honda. The “ grinding” knock/tap noise from engine has never been repaired and until 7/2023 Honda was “ unable to diagnose” it. Westshore Honda- tampa diagnosed it as “ vtc” ( which is inside the motor) and other folks have had the well documented problem the no start is seemingly with the electrical system, per Honda service records and switch replaced when in for recall repair in 7/23 as well but car again having same problem. I’m unable to drive car.
It is part of the engine I do know what exactly it is the vtc and diagnosed through Honda at their golden, colorado location. Other car makes and models from them have recalls with these exact issues except mine but it is the exact same issue. This has been an ongoing issue since I bought the car back in 2017 but the car was finally able to consistently make the noise enough to be diagnosed.
The car will stall while on the freeway. Had fuel injectors replaced and still does not drive well. I am now being told I may have to look at the fuel pump which should be working automatically. I have now invested almost 3,000 on a car with less than 90,000 miles on it that is maintained religiously so that nothing happens to it.
While driving multiple error lights came on. I took my car in and they said it was carbon build up due to "bad gas. " they cleaned it and it has been working fine. However, this is an acknowledged problem with the 2018 and 2019 Honda Fit. Honda actually extended the warranty for those years to cover those repairs. My car only had 22156 miles on it. And the error I experienced is the exact error that was reported to happen with the 2018 and 2019 models, however I was told my car was not covered because it's a 2020 model. I feel they should have to cover this error in the 2020 model, as well.
Dear NHTSA, I am submitting a complaint regarding unsafe vehicle service practices by indy Honda, located in indianapolis, indiana. On December 8, 2023, I had my 2019 Honda Fit serviced at their dealership, including an oil change. On [xxx], while traveling on the interstate in kentucky, my vehicle suddenly experienced a catastrophic engine failure. The vehicle’s lights illuminated without warning, followed by loud popping sounds, and it began smoking. As I slowed down to pull over to the side of the road, the car swerved and stalled. After investigation by fidelity warranty and a certified Honda dealership, it was determined that the engine failure was caused by an improperly tightened drain plug and crush washer, leading to a complete loss of engine lubrication. Despite providing substantial evidence and attempting to resolve the matter, indy Honda has refused to take responsibility for the damages. This failure created a hazardous situation while driving at high speeds on the interstate, posing significant risks to my safety. I kindly request that the NHTSA investigate indy Honda’s servicing practices and take appropriate action to prevent similar safety risks for other consumers. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. Sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Over the summer, vehicle lit up all warning lights. Like many others was informed the system needed deep carbon cleaning. There is a TSB for this problem but Honda corporate said it is regular maintenance and warranty does not cover. I have owned the car since January. If other years are covered, why not the 20?.
7/14/24 this scenario has happened previously. The first time the engine light, steering light, tire light have come on and remained on. Driving around 65 mph the car judders, loses power, & engine light flashes. Thankfully, there was a shoulder to pull over onto because the ability to maintain speed is lost. Also, the highway I was on has extremely busy portions without any shoulder, so the situation could have been much worse. With traffic all around, I have to put on hazard lights and pull over onto a shoulder filled with tons of debris, which I then got a flat tire, which I then I had to change in the side of the highway. The immediate loss of power and subsequent events is extremely dangerous. The vehicle is well maintained. When taken for diagnosis shops have referred me to the dealer. I’ve called Honda America customer service and am also referred to the dealer. Dealerships are extremely difficult, expensive, & unreliable. Through research I’ve found fuel injector and carbon buildup issues that may be the cause, which of course can cause damage of the engine and catalytic converter. The cost of these repairs is very high. Therefore, I am unable to use a basic economical vehicle I purchased out of necessity, which I can barely afford already, and has now become much more expensive due to major repairs that are needed but incomplete due to lack of funds. If I try to drive it I become a potential hazard on the road. This seems like a manufacturing defect if it is an injector issue. If it is carbon buildup on the intake valves it requires an expensive service not disclosed at purchase in the owners manual, which seems dishonest and deceptive. The private shops I’ve been to have diagnosed the issue as faulty fuel injectors, catalytic converter, or unsure. Honda says go to the dealership, yet without any assistance from Honda they will require a diagnostic fee of around $200 and will require expensive out-of-pocket repairs of a likely Honda defect.
My Honda Fit was purchased new in portland, oregon. I am the original owner. I began having issues that are documented after moving to florida, and took the car to Honda in palm bay. The issues were grinding noise at the first start of the day, or after sitting for several hours and then restarted. The noise is noticed upon start in am or 1st start and is a grinding noise from the motor area. It sounds like a knock/grinding, like the motor is starting and has no oil in it. But the oil level is okay and it is not out of oil. This continues today, after being at the same dealer several times. The service department stated that they needed me to leave the car overnight to try to diagnose the issue after the car sat all night because the noise only comes after sitting all night or long periods. I left the car more than once at the dealership. The dealer in palm bay stated "they were unable to re-produce the knocking/grinding that has been occurring since about 11,000 miles. The car is still grinding or knocking and after taking to another dealer in tampa, FL I was told it was a dtc and they refused to fix it. It is now just over mileage under warranty, and was there for the grinding and a recall for the start stop switch which is now faulty again, or that wasn't the issue leaving me stranded. The car has several issues that are recall related that were supposed to be fixed and are nor. The plug coil tops the start stop run switch to start car- was replaced in 7/2022 and now I cant drive the car again.
American Honda and its dealerships refuse to fix my vehicle. My vehicle has been inoperable since 2023. I have reported this gross discrimination / retaliation to your office multiple times. I am submitting another report given the new recall states that the previous recall regarding my electrical system did not correct the issues. American Honda (mario and his manager, jennifer) have refused to escalate my case #13785319 to their legal department. I am a person with disabilities and have requested reasonable accommodations from both american Honda and Honda of covington. To date, they both have retaliated, discriminated, bullied and stalked me (via internet and in person in April 2024). My vehicle has been inoperable since 2023. I have not been provided any reimbursement. This is my corporate vehicle. I have been unable to work because of Honda and its dealership's negligence. I have called Honda corporate multiple times and they refuse to escalate my case to legal. On June 21, 2024, their customer service representatives hung up on me when trying to explain the urgency. The representative that hung up on me was analycia. Today, June 24, 2024, I spoke with alfredo. Alfredo refused to escalate my case to legal.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Fit. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Fuel injector is going bad on my car at 80,000 miles causing catalytic converter to go bad based on two check engine codes. Recall done on 2015-2016 models so hoping this could be extended to 2019 as it seems they haven’t fixed the issue.
Vehicle had entire dash warning lights appear suddenly and had noticed a week prior a vibration/clicking when driving at higher speeds over 50mph. Took to dealer and was told vehicle has had misfires and fuel system was badly dirty and needed an immediate cleaning. Why are the 2020 Fit’s not included in the extended warrant on this as the 2018-2019’s are?.
Vsa, power steering, engine light, and tire sensor light all came on at once. The car was not steering properly. I took the car in may 16, 2024, and they determined that a carbon buildup in the engine was the cause, and said the cylinder also had a misfire. They also said that the car needed a software update. I asked about the recall, because the recall letter I got in the mail states that if the engine light comes on, then it is eligible for repair. But they refused to repair it, claiming that the issue was only due to the carbon buildup, and said they have no parts available. However on my invoice when picking up the car, they listed the recall as if it were part of the repairs. I asked, just to verify, if they repaired it and they said no. I called the Honda number on my recall letter, and they spoke with the main manager at the dealership and told me that they determined the issue with my car wasn't due to the fuel pump recall. So do I have to drive my car until I have issues/until the engine is damaged by this safety issue? that doesn't make sense.
Honda of covington , Honda corporate, louisiana secretary of state, st tammany parrish court system and trey lape (attorney for Honda of corporate has bullied / discriminated and harassed the owner of this vehicle. The owner of this vehicle reported electrical, mechanical and smells of fire emitting from this vehicle multiple times since 2018. To date, the vehicle has not been repaired. Kyle mitchell internet stalked the owner in 2023 and last Friday, April 19, 2024 in person. The owner of this vehicle drove cross country after trey lape advised the vehicle fuel pump was corrected. Mr. Tim (parts department with Honda of covington) confirmed that the fuel pump part was not ordered for my vehicle by the service department. The vehicle has been inoperable since April 2023. The owner and board members are people living with multiple disabilities. All parties have refused reasonable accommodations for the owner of this vehicle (and its board members).

The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer opened a case on the contact's behalf. Parts distribution disconnect for NHTSA campaign number: 23v858000 (fuel system, gasoline) and NHTSA campaign number: 24v384000 (back over prevention). The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
While driving. The engine failed. Loss of power, smoke. Would not start. Entire engine compartment covered with oil. Car towed to mechanic. Who said a hole had been blowout the size of a fist. Engine would have to be replaced.
The big recall with Honda and Acura, it lists the 2018-2019 Honda Fit as having issues with the fuel pump modular. I've had the same issues with my 2016 for a few years now. I've stalled while driving and the steering wheel locks up when that happens. When starting from a stop, it is worse. I once was taking a left turn and it happened. Luckily I wasn't going across during a busy time, I might have been hit. I've gotten my car looked at several times and no one could tell me what was wrong. I even put in a new fuel pump because all of the systems seemed to be related to the fuel pump. And that didn't change anything either. It has to be the modular but whatever it is, this is serious and I cannot believe the 2016 has not been included in the recall. I have to mash the gas a lot, it seems to kind of help in preventing stalling sometimes. But if you have someone right in front of you, and you're making a turn, thats very difficult to mash the gas to prevent a stall while turning. I know I am mentioning turning a lot, it doesn't matter if I am turning or going straight, but I feel like it's more dangerous when it happens while turning as the steering wheel locks up when the car stalls. Throwing it in neutral doesn't even unlock the steering wheel. You can't quickly fix the issue, you have to switch the ignition off and restart it to unlock the steering wheel, that's not something that can be done quick enough to avoid an accident that is about to happen right before your eyes. Please look into this. I feel like it is immoral of Honda to not include other Fit models in the recall. They must know it's not only the 2018-2019 models. There is no way that my car is the only 2016 this is happening to. I greatly appreciate any effort you are willing to put into investigating this matter.
P219ala code appears; supposed fuel injector issue after trying smaller fixes (maf sensor, air filter) with no luck. Just purchased from local dealer a few weeks ago.
See attached document for complaint.
While driving the emission system problem warning came up on my dash with the check engine light. After this happened it became incredibly hard to accelerate the engine. I was driving on the freeway and attempting to merge putting my life and my families at risk because the engine was trying to accelerate but sputtering and stopping for a moment instead. It hasn’t been inspected by police, but went to dealer and got code p219a and was told this was a faulty fuel injector. This was the first time this had happened and no other warning lights came on before the emission system problem that popped up on the dash.
Vtc actuator rattles at cold start. Dealer says may cause problem in the long run. Seems like manufacturing defect that Honda should fix.
