36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 10/03/2023

At 74k miles my check engine light came on randomly. Took the car to a mechanic, who turned the light off and advised me to tighten the gas cap. A few weeks later the check engine light came back on. Auto zone said a spark plug needed replacement. About a week later the check engine light, along with many other lights came on. After a lot of research I learned that there is a recurring issue with Hondas (plural) and their fueling system due to direct injection. Leading to misdiagnosis, replacing unnecessary parts, only to be left with a check engine light. Luckily, I received a letter from Honda informing me of the warranty extension for certain Fits due to carbon buildup and misfires. I took my Fit to the dealer and shared my concerns with the service advisor. I took it to the experts in hopes that if it was a misfire with a dtc of p0300-p0304, they would surely get it right the first time. A few hours later I was informed they found dtc p0420, meaning the catalytic converted needed to be changed. Ignition coils were also faulty, therefore affecting the catalytic converter. Cc was covered under the emissions warranty but coils were not. They could not/would not replace the cc unless I agreed to replace the coils. Despite me sharing my concerns the advisor failed to mention the dtc for the coils, which turned out to be p0304. I replaced the coils and cc, paid $885. When I read the invoice and saw dtc p0304, I got upset and asked a different advisor why the carbon cleaning wasn’t performed instead of changing the coils. I was told there wasn’t enough carbon buildup to be the root of the problem and that the technician had years of experience and I could rest assured there was no other way. Fine. I take the car, less than 48 hours later, my check engine light comes on again. I take the car back. This time I am told the car is showing dtc p2198 and they recommend replacing the fuel injectors and fuel pipe! no dtc misfire, so unable to perform carbon cleanup.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/11/2023

This is my second submission!!!!!! please help!!!! 2018 Honda Fit saleena - 1:39 pm est submitted for the formal complaint about the harassment and discrimination related to all Honda dealerships, kyle mitchell and shakaia (rep from previous call). Case management / and supervisor is reviewing. If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, please contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline 1-888-327-4236 or tty: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. My company vehicle has fluid leaking on the floor, the check engine light constantly coming on, the rear camera is intermittently inoperable and it smells like something has died in it (mold/mildew). Since I have owned the vehicle, I have reported these issues to Honda dealerships and they have claimed to fix the problems. I paid for an extended warranty and each time the dealership forced me to pay for repeat issues that repeatedly continued to happen. The battery died more than once right after I purchased it. The car had to be towed a few times because of the electrical battery issue. The fluid that was leaking on the floor caused my leg, lungs and mental health to suffer. I am currently under doctors care for the mechanical issues the car has caused. This is my company vehicle and it has been at Honda of covington since April 2023. American Honda has refused to help me get to the bottom of why multiple dealerships have refused to fix the vehicle.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/31/2023

I was told that my vehicle has a defective vtc actuator part per Honda notice 16-088 that will cause catastrophic failure of the engine and drivetrain. After diagnosis with the dealership they confirmed the risk stating, "the vtc does control the timing so it could cause it to jump timing. If that happens there is a possibility of catastrophic failure if you don't catch it quick enough. " despite bringing the vehicle in for repair 3 times after the release of the notice there was no attempt to repair the vehicle inside the warranty period. I am the original owner and reported the issue immediately after purchasing it as the characteristic "rattle/grinding" was quite noticable on startup. We asked about this noise and was told, "its normal. " on my next service visit, after the expiration of the warranty at 60k miles, I was asked to pay $1800 to repair it. I pointed out the prior visits and the previous inquiries to be told (via phone) that because there is no formal recall they will not repair the part. Upon research I recently discovered Honda is subject to a class action lawsuit on this same issue. I fear without a recall my vehicle will suffer a failure which will place us at risk. I cannot afford the $1800 quoted to repair the manufacturers defect.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 06/21/2023

Three instances of engine misfiring, causing the car to immediately go into a speed limiting mode during driving. This is a major safety hazard and can happen in the middle of high speed driving. The first instance was a 52k miles, second at 69k miles, and third at 130k miles. The most recent instance resulted in the spark plug ejecting from the cylinder head, melting into the coil pack, and stripping out the cylinder head thread. This resulted in a costly repair.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/29/2023

My vehicle has been inoperable since 2023. The dealership refuses to repair the fuel pump and all other issues, per the manufacturers recall. Steve allain at Honda of covington reported to me that the vehicle would not re-start if turned off. The leadership at the dealership (kyle mitchell) and courtney gullien communicated to me that the car was operable and the fuel pump was repaired, but will not provide service records that document this information. Tim in the parts department has communicated to me multiple times that no one from the dealership has ordered any parts related to the fuel pump recall for my vehicle. The manufacturer refuses assist with this matter and send someone from corporate to inspect the vehicle after multiple requests. The check engine light provided warning, along with a loud burning smell from the vehicle. The insurance company also refused to send a representative to inspect the vehicle. The issues with the stalling of the vehicle, not starting upon turning the key, and foul smell has been an ongoing issue since purchase. The previous dealerships claimed that they repaired the vehicle. The fuel pump is the component that has been failing. The vehicle has been inoperable and at the dealership since April 2023.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/15/2023

I have noticed a grinding/rattling when starting my Fit from a cold engine. I have taken the car to the dealership and mentioned the noise - they recommended getting a new battery. Afterwards the noice was still happening. I took it in again and stated theres a rattling sound on a cold start. The dealer said that couldn't replicate it and probably related to the exhaust system. Now I have taken it in once again because the noise is getting worse and not just on cold starts and at this point they inform me that it's the vtc actuator. Upon hearing this I googled the part and this is a long running issue for Hondas and there have been several service bulletins about it. The vtc alternator has cause the timing chain to stretch in some vehicles according to this search which then can cause total engine failure. I do not feel safe driving a car that has been having issues with the vtc actuator for years and Honda has not be held accountable for this.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Fit. The contact stated while his daughter was driving 40 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and there were abnormal loud sounds coming from the engine. The contact's daughter was able to drive to her residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for oil change; however, the mechanic diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator was damaged and its broken metal pieces had caused the engine to blow up. The dealer diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not provide assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

I start the vehicle when it's cold and the vct actuator rattles terrible for 1-2 seconds. Honda knows about this problem but will not issue a recall.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

While driving on the highway, my 2010 Honda Fit sport automatic with 134,000 miles going around 60 mph lost power and started making sputtering noise. Fortunately, there was still some power left, and I was able to navigate to the shoulder of the highway. I turned off the car and turned it back on again and the check engine light came on. I plugged in my bluedriver diagnostic tool and it says cylinder 2 misfire. When I placed it in drive, the car was making sputtering noise from the engine bay area and would not accelerate, leaving me stranded on the side of the highway. I was lucky enough to maneuver the limping car in the middle of rush hours to the side of the highway. It's a miracle I didn't get into an accident, as the car lost power and was not accelerating properly. The mechanic did a diagnostic and said that cylinder 2 spark plug blew, commonly due to the plugs coming loose, damaging the spark plug and ignition coil on cylinder 2. I searched the internet and found that other 2nd generation Honda Fit ('09-'13) owners also had spark plugs that came from the factory/ tightened to factory specification to only come loose again. I could have died or have gotten into a serious accident. Because of this horror story and being stuck on the highway for 4 hours, I will unfortunately never buy a Honda again, a brand that was supposed to be reliable.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

The vtc actuator is showing signs of failing. Upon starting the car cold, there is a harsh rattling sound for about 2 seconds. If the vtc actuator fails it could do serious damage to the engine and cause an accident if the engine fails while driving, potentially resulting in death. The 3rd generation Fits seem to have the same issues with them that the 2015-2016 models had. I have had issues with my fuel injectors also. Honda has failed to address these issues claiming that these issues were remedied with the 3rd generation car when they really were not.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

When attempting to start the vehicle, especially on cold mornings, I hear a grinding/rattling noise almost like a grinding clink. I think there is a problem with the starter similar to recalls for other Honda models.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

2015 Honda Fit. Consumer writes in regard defective stop/start ignition switch.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/25/2022

Engine light came on and it was brought to the dealership and I was told all fuel injectors need to be replaced and it wouldn't be under warranty. The car has 65,000 miles on which is just over warranty, but I should still not have had to replace these yet. There have been other problems with the fuel system with the fuel pump recall and they have extended the warranty on fuel injectors in other Honda vehicles, which leads me to believe this is a greater problem than just my car and it should still be covered by Honda.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/09/2022

Ecu detected a cylinder #2 misfire, check engine light started blinking while idling. Prior, noticed a little bit of misfiring while driving at 60 mph, faint but noticeable. Well aware of the plaqued inner cylinder's spark plugs coming loose on these make and models and Honda's failed torque spec being changed from for the spark plug being in the cylinder. Know this because of forums online. The plugs were torque spec to 20 ft-lbs. Checked the #2 cylinder and spark plug was loose/out of the threads. Also top piece of spark plug broke off and fell into cylinder. Threads completely taken off the cylinder. Having a Honda dealer taking a look to assess damage. Car mileage is 109,500. Completely unacceptable and don't really feel confident in driving this vehicle safely anymore. Car still has a lot of life left in it. 109,500 miles is still considered low for mainly highway miles. Also vsa light came on same time the check engine light started blinking. Someone could get hurt and lose control of the vehicle if this not dealt with. Car stalled after a bit and lost power, can't imagine what it would be like on the highway. Please Honda, do a recall on this so other people don't get hurt. Plus, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this issue.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, and the mechanic stated that spark plug #3 was loosened. The ignition wire was replaced, and the spark plug was tightened. The manufacturer was contacted, and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 65,000.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/08/2022

Vehicle is experiencing intermittent fault with air-fuel ratio of cylinder. Problems began at 50,000 miles and the dealer recommended engine cleaning due to carbon buildup. This did not solve the issues. Warranty repair was refused at that time, and has since lapsed out of warranty. This results in a malfunction indicator lamp on the dash. Car has additionally failed to start on occasion, and varies greatly in the number of cranks necessary to start. Also sometimes experience shuddering and movement of the vehicle when stopped. The reliability of the vehicle is compromised, which is a significant safety issue.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/30/2022

Vtc actuator is defective.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/22/2022

Car is four years old and has 80,000 miles. Fuel injectors became stuck in an open position flooding the engine with fuel and frying the spark plugs. All emergency indicator lights came on and one light (the tire light) was flashing. Honda dealership confirmed fuel injectors were stuck open, but instead of admitting to failure in their parts, they blamed the problem on “bad gas. ” an independent auto mechanic confirmed for me that gasoline should not be blamed on faulty fuel injectors. Unfortunately Honda charged me $2300 to replace parts that should last longer than four years.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

Fuel injector failure in under 35,000. . . There is a misfire from one of the fuel injectors leading to a replacement of the entire system.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 05/15/2022

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Fit. The contact stated while driving 65 mph, the tpms and emissions system failure warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and diagnosed with excessive carbon build-up in the engine. The contact was advised to not drive the vehicle until the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

Driving down the highway the spark plug was blown out of the engine head and the car lost power immediately. The car has approximately 12,000 miles and all oem parts from the manufacture. Maintenance was kept up on the car. This is extremely dangerous since this highway is usually busy with cars and tractor trailers. My son was in the left lane and was almost hit by a tractor trailer due to the violent explosion of the spark plug being blown out of the engine. In addition, was unable to get over to the shoulder of the road and had to stop in the left-hand lane on route 80 in NJ which is very dangerous. Both of my sons were in the car when this occurred. The car was towed to my licensed mechanic who confirmed that the spark plug was blown out of the engine which caused the loud noise and loss of power. There was no warning, symptoms or messages before this occurred which is why I am extremely concerned for the safety of others who own this type of vehicle.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/01/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Fit. The contact stated that on several occasions when attempting to use the horn the system did not operate and was not audible. Also, the vehicle would intermittently experience hard starting, the theft alarm would erroneously activate and the center of the steering wheel where the airbag was located would become warm to the touch. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the failures could not be duplicated and no trouble was found. The manufacturer was not yet contacted regarding the failures. The failure mileage was 30,000.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/06/2021

After the routine transmission fluid flush at about 36k miles, the vehicle stalls out/jerks after switching the selector from p to d. The issue is intermittent though. Also, the vehicle got a worsened mpg which decreased from 38-39mpg (average) to 31-33mpg on the same driving routine. And most important, the cvt transmission "switches" to neutral every time you decelerate making the vehicle unstable at higher speeds. The vehicle was inspected at the two different dealerships and none of those bring out a solution, stating that this is beyond their ability to fix something since no warning lights or messages are being illuminating. Called the manufacturer, got advised to follow up with another dealership.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 10/09/2021

The contact owns a 2020 Honda Fit. The contact stated that after starting the engine the warning indicator lights remained illuminated along with the check engine light. The vehicle had also experienced misfiring while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel injectors were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,623.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Honda FIT

At cold start up, the engine rattles loudly for about 2 seconds. This is intermittent and occurs on cold starts when the car has not been started for 6-8 hours.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 06/21/2021

I purchased a new Honda Fit in 2018. In November 2019, at 31,000 miles several indicator lights came on. The check engine, tpms, vehicle stability assist, electric power system. The car was running smoothly but I was told by a Honda dealer there was excessive carbon build up. The cost to clean it out would be $500. They claimed that because this was caused by an outside element and a part had not failed that the warranty would not cover this. I fought it and they did a one-time courtesy repair at no charge. June 2021, 51,000 miles and the same thing happened all over again. Car running smoothly, no hesitation, no misfires. Different Honda dealer told me it was excessive carbon build up on manifold and this time it would be $604 plus tax. I asked if there was a maintenance service that would prevent this from happening and I was told no. That the fuel system service offered does not reach the areas of the engine where the carbon builds up. This is a problem with direct injection engines. Clearly there is a flaw in the direct injection engine design that Honda has known about for years and does not want to take responsibility for. This is unacceptable and Honda is committing consumer fraud by knowingly selling a flawed product that jeopardizes the safety of their customers. I do not feel safe driving this car with these failures in the engine, not knowing when this problem is going to happen again and facing an expensive repair bill every time it does happen. Not to mention the inconvenience of being without a car for several days while it is being repaired. I have documentation to back all of this up.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 05/12/2021

I took the car into the Honda dealer in bellevue, wa for an oil change and a buyer's inspection with leak down test. The next day, I could hear a loud rattling noise when I started the car. I took it back to Honda and they say it is the vtc actuator, along with timing chain, serpentine belt and water pump, which they did not list as issues during the 1st appointment, which was supposed to be a total inspection of the car. Not sure if they missed it or caused the additional issues. I took it to a 2nd mechanic, told him my whole story, and he said it was the vtc actuator too. I researched online and apparently many people have this issue, and most catch it before their 60k mile warranty is up. However, my car is at 74k miles. Apparently Honda was redesigned the vtc actuator, because it was such a big problem. However, they have not gone back to fix all the cars that had the issue. The mechanic says if I drive with this condition it could cause engine failure, which if it happens while driving, could pose a safety risk. I strongly feel that this is something that Honda should recall or at least extend the warranty to 100k miles for this issue.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/16/2021

Fuel injectors prematurely went out leaving me in limp mode with 4 lights flashing on the dash at 10mph on the interstate until I gave up and pulled over and just got a tow home.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/11/2021

I bought Honda Fit 2015 on Jan 11, 2015. Last year I got the problem with the engine start/stop button. The engine did not start when I pushed the button many times. On June 13, 2020, I brought my card to Honda dealer. They said they have to replace the starter. I left the car at dealer and come back to pick up the same day. At dealer parking lot, I started my car and it did the same problem again. I came back inside the office and let the technician knew. So, I left my car again at dealer for them to fix it. At that time, my car was 29,221 miles only for 5 and half years. I not drive my car a lot just about 12 miles per day. Dealer told me they had to fixed something else and charged me for total $750. I think it is not fair for me to pay defective product. I file the complain with Honda company on June 2020 and did not receive any reply back. Feb 20, 21, I received a letter from Honda about warranty extension for 2015-17 Fit keyless start system error with dtc b12c5. Honda would reimburse if I fixed that problem before. I filed paperwork with all receipts on 02/23/21. Today, I got the phone call from Honda claim department 03/11/2021 they stated I did not qualified for reimburse because the part they replaced not qualified. I still don't understand why? because of the problems, one day I had to stay on parking lot for 30 minutes tring to start the engine. I was late for work and late for my appointments twice. The reimburse claim number: 11377164. The claim department told me my case was closed because I am not qualified for this situation. I am not a technician, I don't know what did they do with the car. The only thing I know is with 29,221 miles Honda engine start/stop button not working. This is the 2nd Honda car I have. For this experience I will not buy any car from Honda anymore.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/31/2021

All vehicle warning lights came on specifically the check engine light for an emissions system problem. At the time the car had around 100,000 miles so it was suspected that the issue had to be with the battery, O2 sensors, or spark plug and ignition coil, so those parts were replaced. The vehicle still shows all the warning lights and reads codes for misfires in the first and second cylinder. If the issue with the fuel injectors was recalled and fixed for the 2015-2016 model Honda Fit, then it cant possibly be that the 2017-2020 Honda Fits also have a fuel injector problem, unless they also do and the issue has been neglected.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

At start up (often after the car has sat a few hours), the engine rattles loudly for about 2 seconds. Honda service bulletin 16-088 acknowledges that this occurs because “the variable valve timing control (vtc) actuator is defective. ” however, Honda refuses to fix this engine defect unless the car is under warranty. This defect should be repaired regardless of whether the car is under warranty because the defect could lead to catastrophic engine failure.

While driving car the electrical system failed with all safety lights on dashboard turning on. When system goes off the abs braking system, traction control, and power steering fails. Also noted engine misfiring. This happened when driving on hiway my wife drives the car to work on the hiway this has been a ongoing issue and we have had it to Honda 5 times for this exact problem every time except for this last one the say they can not duplicate the problem on the 5th time they wanted to charge her 1300 to fix it but it was covered due to the same issue that has happened just a few months after getting the car something has to be done before we get hurt in the car we are in fear for our safety this happens on the interstate and I have to crawl off the road praying this has been hpping evry few months we contacted Honda America and got no help.
