Automatic Transmission problems of the 2000 Honda Odyssey - part 2

The transmission on my 2000 Honda Odyssey has been replaced 2 times and needs another replacement now.

2000 Honda Odyssey recall issued/warranty extended to 7/100000 original transmission has been replaced 4 times, thus vehicle has its fifth transmission now. Transmission still not operating properly.

Transmission defect/extended warranty problem/pulsation of brakes when braking, slider doors sticking/loud buzzing sound (intermittent).

I have Honda Odyssey 2000. Transmission brake down. I took it to the Honda authorized dealer and they said I need new transmission is the same problem as on Honda Odyssey 2002 and later model with transmission which they recalled to fix. I am wonder why they exclude 2000 model with the same problem.

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey. My first van was covered under the lemon law because of the transmission and other safety factors. My replacement van had the transmission replaced at 70,000 in 2004 because it went out. Now my van has 150,000 miles and the transmission went out again. This will be the third transmission in my van. The dealer refuses to replace the transmission considering it only has 80,000 on the replaced transmission. When one purchases a vehicle they are trusting that they are purchasing a vehicle that will be reliable. I just want Honda to be accountable for their defected parts.

Shift lever moves out of park without keys in ignition.

The van transmission sounded like it was delayed in engaging, then it suddenly lunges forward. Had it checked out, tech said nothing was wrong with transmission. Van has gotten progressively worse until now it slips constantly. Since it had under 100,000 when it started doing this it should be covered by Honda but they won't take responsibility even though they admit Honda minivans consistently are being brought in for transmission problems.

When driving from va to mi, going through mountains of PA, the transmission would down shift from 4th to 3rd. As I proceeded down long steep mountain grades, but only after I touch the brakes just a bit. This occurred about 3 times. Thought something was wrong with transmission. Then I figured it was an ingenious design in keeping the car within a reasonable speed. Once I reached level ground and put my foot gently on the accelerator, the car upshifted to 4th and overdrive with no problems. I have had no problems with transmissions yet. Yet! advice: drive in 3rd gear when driving around town. Only put gear shift into 4th when you know you'll be driving at 50+ mph for an extended period of time. I too have heard the clattering in the engine bay when the engine runs at about 1500-1700 rpms, so I keep it in 3rd gear unless I'm driving on the highway. I have approximately 32000 miles on 2000 Odyssey and no problems yet. I am the second owner. First owner bought 100,000 mile warranty from warranty direct upon purchase back in 2000, which was transferable to me when I bought it just after christmas 2002.

Transmission hesitated gear 1 to 2 and shifted hard gear 2 to 3. Transmission replaced with used transmission by dealer. Covered under 3rd party warranty supplied by dealer.

2000 Honda ody trans has failed for 3rd time. Original went bad at 75k. Complained about it 1st at 34k. Dealer said found no probs. Now at 75k we are on 3rd rebuilt trans to be put in next week. 1st 2 rebuilt ones didn't last 10 miles before same loud clunk in reverse started again. Honda needs to be forced to replace this problem with new trans, not rebuilt one, and 3/36 warranty. I didn't pay top dollar for a car to have a 3 rebuilt trans by 75k. It is apparent that rebuilts aren't any better than original trans. The 100k extension of warranty is useless. Honda calls it 'goodwill'. Sounds more like willingful neglect & fraud. Looking for someone who has filed class action lawsuit already.

The transmission blew. Dealer notified. Ph.

While trying to pull vehicle into reverse it makes a loud noise. This problem occurred without warning. Dealer has been contacted. .

Refund for transmission.

This will be the 4th new transmission Honda has installed in 2 years. When you talk to the dealer he tells us that he is replacing 2-3 transmissions a week. Ph **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**767678.

I am familiar with a large number of complaints about this particular vehicle and would like the NHTSA to demand a recall of these vehicles. The dealers know about this problem, but are misleading consumers by denying any knowledge of such issues. This is a blatant misrepresentation of the truth, and the manufacturer along with the dealers are deceiving owners about the trans. Problems. No safety defect listed.

Transmission started to clunk right after I purchased the vehicle (12/01) and the engine check light came on repeatedly starting in March 02.

I live in mexico but maybe if enough people complain, Honda will take notice. My car is imported and manufactured in canada just as everyone else's. No safety defect listed.

Vehicle was experiencing transmission problems and Honda replaced the transmission with a rebuilt used transmission, consumer believes this problem is in addition to the many other problems they have had with this car.

Consumer stated the automatic transmission was replaced.

Dealer replaced transmission without question.

Steering column and indicator lights show that vehicle is in "r" but is actually in neutral when the gas pedal is used. Has occurred on three occasions w/ 2 different drivers. This is especially hazardous when parked downhill.

The car lurches when accelarating from a standing stop. It feels like the transmission is catching, and is a jerky movement. Has gotten worse in 2004 when the engine warning light has been on at least three times. We bought the car "new" from what was apparently canadian inv entory. We were told that because the car was canadian the original warranty did not apply and the dealer provided 3rd party coverage. While we did report the issue during the coverage period, it was not clear what exactly it was (at least to us) and was not identified as a transmission problem. Only in 2004 have we and the dealer concluded it was definately a transmission issue. Honda USA will not acknowledge the problem because it is a "gray market vechicle" and said we must deal with Honda canada, and Honda canada says it is a us problem and won't deal with it. While the dealer is supportive and their service department has worked with us, they direct us to the manufacturer as they say the third party coverage has expired and the gray market vechicle has no warranty. I feel I have a safety issue and that neither Honda or the dealer will stand behind their vechicle. When I discussed the issue with Honda canada, they told me the VIN indicated that a previous owner was budget rental cars, so how they are involved in the shifting of dealer inventory is questionable at best. I don't understand why they are allowed to operate in this way, and why the manufacturer and/or the dealer will not stand behind the vehicle and address a serious problem. This problem is not normal and should not be happening on a car with 65,000 miles, especially one that has been well maintained with all scheduled service.

When backing up hill, will intermittently hear a single, loud clunk from transmission. It gets worse with time. Currently, happens more often than it originally did. Dealer has ordered new transmission.

When the van is shift on reverse and going back about three feet there is a loud bang in the front of the van, it is like going over something but after looking each time it happents there is nothing in the pavement. I already took it once to the dealer but they couldnt find nothing. It has happent again two more times and I will take it back to dealer.

Honda Odyssey purchased in 2000 has had transmission replaced twice. Currently in litigation with Honda inc with NJ lemon law. Several meetings with Honda reps (to include arbitration) have resulted in no satisfaction. I cannot depend on this vehicle for any of my transportation needs due to continuing problems and safety concerns.

Cannot shift into lower gears. Static electricty extreme after driving. Sliding door will not always open.

While exiting parking garage up a steep 25 degree incline the vehicle began to roll backwards as if it were in neutral, consumer was told that all Honda transmission rolls backwards on inclines (design). Nlm.

Consumer states child turned key in ignition without depressing v brakes and vehicle started rolling backward, hitting a telephone poll.

Front brake calipers are loose. The caliper assemblies shift and clunk when braking is applied and also can be moved by hand. The transmission is noisy when traveling at highway speeds producing a knocking type of sound. Dt.
