1 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

Power steering is making noise but have power steering fluid.

2 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Power steering still does not work at slow speeds. I had the fix done at the dealer back when Honda offered to extend the warranty and fix the problem for those vehicles having issues (2012), but it is already doing the same thing again. Now Honda wants me to pay to replace the power steering pump. I have had nothing but trouble and noise out of the power steering in this vehicle since day 1 and I bought it brand new. Honda power steering pumps must be defective for there to be so many people with trouble.

3 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2011

Power steering makes a whining noise, difficult to steer at low speeds and anytime during cold weather.

4 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2010

2006 Honda Odyssey, whining noise coming from power steering pump, and there is TSB 07-005 for this case, since car is out of warranty dealer is asking me to pay for the inspection. I called Honda of America, and complained about this issue, but there is no guarantee Honda of America will reimbursed or pay for the repair.

5 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Consistent loss of steering at slow speeds. Only when accelerating will steering work, almost as if at idle or in parking lots, not enough power to steering unit transpires. It generally requires several additional moves in a parking lot to get out of a space, but somewhat dangerous in that you have to allow for car to roll, in order for steering to work. The most dangerous situation is when you're coming to a stop and when you reach 10mph or so, on the way to a stop, you don't have steering for those few seconds. It's dangerous in a parking lot if you have to turn suddenly. This has happened consistently since we've owned the vehicle, everyone I know here at the office, friends and family who own one, have complained of the same problem. A related issue is, with increasing frequency, the power steering unit emits a hissing sound, almost as if the belts are about to snap, similar to the noise american power steering unis made in the 80's and 90's. I believe the unit is not engineered properly for the vehicle. Both of these have been persistent problems, shame on me for not reporting it sooner, perhaps it's the aura of Honda that makes one believe they're perfect vehicles. They are far from it.

6 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2010

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan, with almost 70,000 miles on it. I brought the car in last week for service regarding a "moaning" noise when turning the steering wheel, right or left. The technician later informed me that the power steering pump and its components are no longer working and needed to be replaced. . . $700 dollars later. After getting the parts replaced because of this pump going bad, I checked online and discovered this is a known issue and has been reported previously. I contacted Honda north America, who informed me that the given life span of this part is approx 120-140 miles, and that would prorate me back 50% the cost of my service charge. This was very nice and I am awaiting the check in the mail. My issue is that if there is a know issue with this part, and it "goes" out at various mileage on these vehicles, it would be have been more appropriate to have the part recalled and replaced all together. Am sure most people don't bring their cars in at the first instance they hear a noise, etc. Since I have children and car pool others, I never take any chances with my car. It would be very disturbing if the car loss its power steering at a time when its was most needed, as to avoid a serious accident. Thank you for your time.

7 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2009

Very loud power steering pump noise after a 25 minute drive to the local airport on a cold Dec morning in fort worth TX. I've been able to reproduce the problem only one other time since then. Nothing has been done to fix the issue because I can't reproduce the problem for the local dealer. I'm certain the problem is due to an issue detailed in a Honda service bulletin 07-005. I seems they expect me to drive it until something breaks or I have an accident.

8 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

Steering becomes stiff and difficult to steer after driving 25mins. Noticing whining power steering noise. Started at 40,000 miles and it is now 55,000 miles and the dealer will not over even part of the $600 cost.

9 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. After the vehicle was driven for approximately 35 minutes, the contact heard a loud noise and the steering became difficult to move. The failure occurred while driving 30 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the power steering reservoir filter needed to be replaced. The contact feels that the steering high pressure hose should be replaced. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 42,000.

10 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2008

Power steering failure. Began during colder weather with whining noise from power steering when weather below 40 f. This occurred two years in a row. Currently at slow speeds < 30 steering input is more difficult and requires much more effort to strain against the steering wheel. Honda was contacted first year of whining and stated problem was due to cold weather. Since then I have learned that three service bulletins have been distributed for same complaint. Honda TSB 07-005 dated 01/26/07 then replaced by TSB 07-005 dated 06/17/08 then TSB 07-005 dated 08/21/09. This was a known complaint during my initial questions and now problem has gotten much worse. Now I am being told vehicle is out of basic warranty and they will not cover under powertrain warranty. The TSB state directly on the Honda bulletin this is caused by a defective power steering pump reservoir. My concern is the possibility at higher speed loosing steering input or control.

12 Steering Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. After driving 15 mph in cold weather for an hour or longer, the contact hears a whining noise coming from the engine compartment. The noise intensifies as the rpm's increase. The dealer stated that the source of the noise may be the power steering; however, the vehicle has not been inspected. The noise is heard only after the vehicle has been driven for more than 60 minutes. The contact has found numerous complaints on this failure and believes that the manufacturer should issue a recall. The failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 48,000.

The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 49,000.
