36 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign id number 10v504000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the required part was unavailable to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer informed the contact that the remedy part would not become available until may 2014. The contact had not experienced a failure.

37 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

On October 16, 2013, my Honda accelerated at a fast speed up my driveway and caused $6,178. 37 in repair costs and slammed into my front porch. The brakes did not work to stop the car. We immediately informed Honda and our insurance carrier of the accident, and the car was towed to Honda in old bridge, NJ, as it could not be driven due to damage. On 11/15/2013, see claims summary, Honda could not determine if this an acceleration issue. They never informed us of what the issue was. Honda did not provide me with a rental car, so I had to rent a car from 10/21/13 to 11/26/13, which I paid $603. 96 out of pocket (receipts enclosed). The amount of time Honda was way too long fix my car and I had pay additional rental costs due to their unreasonable delay. Shortly, after Honda repaired my car, I received a recall notice that the brakes were recalled. Really? this is why my car would not stop. There have been several recalls on my Honda. A year after purchase, the engine broke down. I wrote to NJ attorney general, who wrote back and asked that I write to you. I am also attaching pictures of the accident. There are tire marks in the driveway due to the high speed of the acceleration. Photos fluids running down my driveway, and the damaged front end. I have also enclosed NJ manufacturer's, copy of the claim summary dated 11/15/13. This matter is very upsetting to me and the way it was handled by Honda. My husband, also purchased a new pilot, and my Honda were both purchased new at the same Honda. I know there are acceleration issues with this Honda and this was an acceleration issue and a mechanical issue on the fault of the brakes I am requesting to be reimbursed for the car rental, insurance deductible and a refund of the cost I paid for the Honda in the amount of $28,931. 46. My car has never driven the same since the accident.

38 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

While accelerating onto freeway at approximately 45 mph the brakes fully engaged and engine power was lost while my foot was on the accelerator. Speed decreased by about 25mph in just a few seconds. With my foot still on the accelerator engine engaged again and we increased speed to about 45 mph, when the automatic transmission was going to shift into overdrive, the same incident occurred again! power was regained at the same speed about 25 mph. We speeded up to about 45 mph again and this time I looked at the brake pedal. The brakes fully engaged themselves again the brake pedal actually depressed while I had my foot on accelerator only! I then took the overdrive off and put the transmission in d3 mode. The incident didn't occur again while in d3 mode. I was left having to drive on freeway around 55mph scared for my and my families lives! this vehicle self engaged brakes fully three times, while my foot was on accelerated only!.

39 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

I was driving out in the country, I was going around 40mphs when the car felt like an emergency brake was pulled up. The car braked very quickly from 40 to about 5 -10mphs. I stopped ,tested the brakes and began to go again very slowly. After driving a few mins slowly I began to go faster when I hit about 35 mph it rapidly brake again. At this point I was very scared, my kids thought I hit a animal. So I decided to stop, by the time I was able to find a road to pull over onto it repeated it 3 more times only going about 10-15 mph. I had the van towed to my mechanic. He could not find a problem so we had it towed to priority Honda in chesapeake, va to have testing done. If this would have happened 24 hrs earlier I was traveling from richmond, va and I would have cause a crash. I will not drive this vehicle until this is resolved. It was very scary and felt that it had put my children along with myself in grave danger.

40 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

Driving 45 miles per hour and the brakes suddenly went on very hard but not in a skid. Every one was thrown forward into their seatbelts. The car behind nearly crashed into us. I put 4-way flashers on and went slower - 35-40mph and it happened again. It happened a third time going slower yet. I turned the car off at a store and when we started off again it did not happen again the rest of the way home. How can this dangerous Honda malfunction be fixed? thanks.

41 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the brake system engaged independently as the vehicle decelerated to approximately 30 mph. The contact was able to increase acceleration and regain normal function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 65,000. Kmj.

42 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2013

While turning into a parking space and applying my brakes, the engine revved, brakes stopped responding and the vehicle propelled forward, resulting in the vehicle jumping a median and ramming into a tree at which point the airbags deployed and engine cut-off. This left me with burns on the skin of my arms and neck area. I have owned and driven this van for six years and am certain that I was applying the brake. The vehicle had to be towed as the driver side seatbelt was left inoperable. We were told by our dealership that the side air bag had deployed within the column, but did not enter the cabin as it was not visible and was caught within the seat belt pillar.

43 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While driving, the vsa warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the brake pedal felt "spongy" when depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (victory Honda of sandusky, 2301 hayes Ave, sandusky, OH 44870) where it was diagnosed that the vsa module failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part cost. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 13v500000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.

44 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

I was driving behind someone that stopped short and I went to hit my brakes and felt like nothing was there!!! it turned into a three car accident with my three children, ages 10, 2 and 1. It stopped very lightly. I also find that I can't stop where I intend to and that the car continually only lets me do "rolling" stops.

45 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

While maintaining a speed of approx. 40 mph with my foot on the accelerator, it suddenly felt as if someone slammed on the brakes. This only happened once on this date. The vehicle was taken to the dealership. There were no codes and they could not duplicate the situation. They checked the braking system thoroughly but could not determine the cause of my issue. One month later (8/17/13), the same "severe unintended braking" happened again, but this time it happened three times within 1/2-3/4 of a mile. Fortunately, no one was right behind me or they would have hit me. I am afraid to drive this vehicle as I don't know when it will slam on the brakes without my involvement.

46 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Accelerating down hwy after making u-turn when vehicle suddenly slows down as if slamming on brakes-it did this a second time approximately one minute later. Vsa light turned on approximately 10 minutes later than 2nd sudden slowdown.

47 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2013

The car seems to brake very suddenly by about 20 miles per hour. This happens without touching the brakes. This is the 10th time it has happened on the car since 2009.

48 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

While driving on the highway letting the car coast (my foot was not on the brakes or the gas pedal) the car brakes when on by them selves suddenly. Reducing the speed form roughly 60mph to 30 mph. I was nearly rear ended by the car behind me on the highway as there was no apparent for the car's sudden braking. This same thing happened on four occasions while driving home from work.

49 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

I was driving in the highway at approximately 30 mph and accelerating when suddenly my minivan brakes by itself. It was like someone else was controlling the brake pedal for me. It was horrifying. It pulled over and waited until I was ok to drive again. I continue driving and again when I was accelerating the brake pedal went all the way down and braked to almost a complete stop. I decided to keep on driving to get to the nearest safest place to park and call for assistance and the same thing happened two more times until I parked and turned off the vehicle. I had to call for a relative assistance getting back home because I was driving with my three children and I didn't want to endanger them. My husband took the minivan home and it didn't do it again. I haven't drive it since I'm terrified it can do it again when I'm driving in the highway at high speed and cause and accident that can be fatal to my family, other drivers and me.

50 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Was driving at approximately 40 mph at a steady speed when the car suddenly slowed down as if the brakes had been hit hard. Only lasted for about 1 second. This recurred again within a few minutes, this time while accelerating. Hasn't happened again.

51 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2013

On a recent vacation we first noticed on moderate downhill grades with very moderate braking wheels would start to shimmy with shaking of the steering wheel. With a total release of brakes, shimmy would immediately stop, and no wheel vibrations would be felt. Braking on flat areas or in city driving no vibrations are felt, even with fairly hard braking. During our trip this started happening on almost every downhill grade making the car very hard to control. Returned from our trip and drove mostly on roads where we do not have many downhill grades and did not have the problem again, until recently we traveled on an interstate road from a city approximately 50 from us that had several downhill grades. On every slight downhill grade if the brakes were even applied very gently, the shaking and steering wheel wobble would start immediately. But again would not do it on a level road. This shaking and vibration makes the car very dangerous to drive. The car was purchased new and now has only 26333 miles, and has only been serviced by a Honda dealer. Every time the brakes were checked for service everything checked out ok. The brakes have never been worked on or had any repairs of any sort done on them or any related parts. It is still in complete factory condition. This is a very serious problem and could very easily cause an accident, and I know that taking it into a Honda dealership they would simply take it around the block and say everything was fine and do nothing. This really parallels many of the other people that have complained of the same problem with this car.

52 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2013

53 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2013

I was driving normal not on highway at 45 mph, the van all the sudden applies the brake by itself on all four brakes, reducing the speed to 15 mph, while I did not engage brake at all, the almost caused an accident for the car behind me, there was very light traffic, and I was wondering what is going on. . The brake then disengage by itself completely within seconds, please do investigate as I have seen this myself times and people are discussing same symptom in the forum.

55 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2012

We have a 2007 Honda Odyssey with 76,000 miles. In December 2012 we had been driving for approximately 3-4 minutes, exiting onto the highway and accelerating to reach 65 miles per hour. When we reached approximately 55-60 mph and were still accelerating the car spontaneously applied the brakes for approximately 3 seconds, lurching us forward. We stopped accelerating and began to pull over. It again spontaneously braked as we were slowing down. We attempted to drive slowly along the side of the road, to get to the next exit, and it happened again. Once we were finally able to stop in a safe place we turned off the car. We turned the car back on and it did not do it again. We took the car to the dealer and they only found one code - the steering sensor. They re-calibrated it but were not convinced that was the problem. Sure enough, approximately two months later the same thing happened. We were not going quite as fast and it did not lurch quite as severe. After it did this three times I was at a stop light and pushed the switch to turn the vsa off. It did not occur again. Took it to the dealer and they found no codes. They drove 17 miles and could not duplicate the problem. The weather conditions both times were approximately 30-40 degrees with some snow or wetness on the ground from prior precipitation. The dealer continues to say there is no problem because it shows no code and they can't replicate the problem. Manufacture was contacted and they instructed dealer to drive again and try to duplicate. They deny any other incidents documented (despite listings on this website that say they have been notified of the same problem. ).

56 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2012

My van seems to brake by itself. . . It has done it on and off since I purchased the vehicle. . Don't remember first time. . It is at low speed and in all types of weather conditions. . Thought it might be traction control but not sure until I read about other vans doing the same thing. . What can I do about it.

57 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

A letter from senator wicker on behalf of constituent re safety concern about his 2007 Honda Odyssey (dot/I # s-2012-274) the consumer stated the van had a documented problem with the brakes locking up while driving. The consumer stated the brakes locked up while his wife was driving, which almost caused her to be rear ended.

58 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2012

When the incident first occurred the vibrating was not as severe. Now when I am going at over 50mph and I start braking, the car's steering wheel starts shaking violently. I did some research and found that the rotors are warped prematurely. Many other owners of the same car have the issue. I am afraid of getting into a car accident because of the steering wheel shaking so violently while I am driving. Its a very big safety concern for me and I wish that Honda recalls these cars for this problem.

59 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I was just entering highway via ramp and accelerating to merge. As soon as the speed hit approximately 55mph, it suddenly put the brake and dropped the speed to about 40mph. Every time I tried to go beyond the speed, it suddenly put the brake. I could not get the speed to go beyond 55mph. It was very dangerous for me and also for the other drivers around me. I eventually pulled over and turned the key off to wait for about 5minutes and then I started the car. That time, no problem. The exactly same incident happened three other times rather randomly. Every time, I had to pull over and wait for few minutes ti restart the car. When I mentioned it to on the phone to Honda service representative at the dealer I bought the car, he just said that the recall is for pilot only and they have no knowledge of the odyssay having this issue. So, I am adding my name to the list of complains with the hope that Honda takes this seriously. Thanks.

60 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2012

I was driving with cruise control off at a constant speed of 45 mph on level ground. Brakes spontaneously activated with moderately hard force, slowing car to 30 mph, then releasing. No warning lights on instrument cluster, and all four wheels appeared to be involved. Engine rpm did decrease during this event. The spontaneous braking recurred twice within two miles with the same fairly spirited deceleration experienced. The vsa was switched to the off setting, and no other episodes of spontaneous braking were noted for the remaining one mile of the journey. Fuel level at 80%, car is very well maintained. No aberrant sounds were generated. Updated 03/09/12.

61 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2012

I am getting a thud sound from the back of my 2007 Odyssey Mini van. We called Honda and they said they have had several people come in with this. They found that there is a glazing that happens with the brakes and they said they have to grind the drums and it makes it go away for awhile. They said if the brake shoes are ok it would run about $200. 00. This is crazy if they have a problem with the brakes other than wear and tear they should fix it for free. I have put two sets of brakes on this van since I bought it and I have never had brakes go so fast. I believe they have a very poor design. If I had not bought the extended warranty I would have been out 1000 of dollars with all the problem this 2007 Honda has had. If I had it to do over again I would not buy another Honda. The windshield whistles, the transmission part had to be replaced, the compressor melted, the battery went dead on a trip before a year was up. The bearings in the wheels went bad. The axle went bad. The right rear door motor went bad. The left rear door will open part way and shut. All in all Honda has gone down hill. $37,000 and its a piece of junk. Thank god other than the brakes the dealer has been very very good and has fixed everything at least once.

70 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2011

Recently purchased a 2007 Honda Odyssey, and the brakes don't work well. The pedal is very soft and not very responsive. I have never had a car that stopped so poorly. It takes twice the effort of my other car to get the van stopped. Not a very safe feeling at all. So far no incidents but in an emergency I could see a future problem developing. I did have the dealer service department look at the brakes and they said they were fine, no air in the lines. Both my wife and I agree the brakes are really bad.
