Drivers side mirror broke away, but intact mirror glass fell out. Poor design , compromises safety by eliminating rear vision.
While changing lanes to pass a stopped box van on the right, I nicked the rear corner of the box van with the driver's side mirror housing. Although the housing folded forward as it is designed to do, the mirror "popped" out, fell to the roadway and broke. This left me without a driver's side mirror, posing an obvious safety hazard. The repair, which I am performing myself, is not yet complete due to parts delays. Note: the date of the incident and mileage are approximate.
