8 Visibility problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

Before my transmission overhaul, my Odyssey would slip gears and make a thump sound upon initial acceleration and subsequent increases in speed. The check engine and tcs lights would come on and stay lit. After the overhaul, I found out there were bulletins out on parts that were defective and with replacement transmissions additional cooling and filters had to be replaced, as well as additional changes. A year after the overhaul, started having the same slippage and sounds from the transmission again. This time, while on the highway traveling at 70mph, my back window gets covered up by an oily discolored substance. It was to the point I could not see out the rear window. The smell of burned rubber or tar was coming through the vent and the a/c or heat was not on. My rpm needle started shifting up from 3 to 5 and bouncing back between them, then down to 2 and then finally back to 3. . . . With no change in speed. The check engine light and tcs lights come on and stay lit. My brakes tended to be a little soft then a little hard. Called a mechanic that I knew was available and worked on transmissions and asked him what to do and he said get off the road fast and check your fluid levels. My Odyssey had spit out all the transmission fluid and some oil throughout the engine, underneath and back on the driver's side rear tire area. If it had not been for the fact that I was extremely familiar with my van (single owner) and paid attention to the last problems I had, I might have locked up in the middle of a busy highway with my children in the car and may not have lived to see another day.

11 Visibility problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

While traveling north bound on us hwy 29, traveling at approximately 50 mph with all windows in their fully closed positions, the passenger side window simply disappeared into the door. After erratic maneuver, due to sudden and surprise in a rush of air into the cabin, speed had to be reduced. Frantic efforts to raise the window failed. Vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. Dealership was contacted. However, the service department was closed. No accidents occurred. Vehicle was taken to dealership next day at 08:30. Dealership repaired problem and charged approximately $250. 00, claiming part was not covered under any warranty. A very similar event occurred to the drivers side door under very similar circumstances. Accident was averted in that event, due to the suddenness of the even. The dealership repaired the very same issue at no charge. The fact that no warning occurred in either case, makes this a very serious problem that could easily cause a driver to steer off of the road or be distracted for the moment it takes to cause an accident (especially during inclement weather). I would like to see Honda corporation take responsibility for repairing this very serious mechanical problem that leads to compromised cabin safety.

12 Visibility problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

Have three complaints. Complaint one: there is extremely long pedal travel for brake pedal. This travel gives the driver a sense of brake failure, as though the brakes don't work or will not stop vehicle. Has been noted in vehicle forums as a common problem complaint two: wind noise on the passenger and driver pillar that separates the front seat and the middle seat combination. Has been noted in vehicle forums this is a common problem. Complaint three: there is significant dirt in paint and paint shading where it doesn't match rest of vehicle (paint shading can be seen if the sun shines on the vehicle just right). Honda has offered to repaint affected parts. I feel this is a common problem and the owner shouldn't be required to have a new car repainted with less than 1000 miles. Has been noted in vehicle forums this is a common problem.

13 Visibility problem of the 2003 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/07/2007

The rear vents in an Honda Odyssey have stopped functioning. Based on web searches this seems like a very common problem and surely points to a manufacturing defect. On activating the switch to operate the vents there is no automatic cutoff as soon as the vents are opened / closed all the way. This apparently leads to the motor over-heating and causing it to burn. There are no manual controls available to operate the vents. Based on your location the van will now be overheated (FL) or extremely cold (CO) as the internal a/c unit cannot / will not funcion at the optimum levels.

14 Visibility problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/24/2004

I purchased a 2005 Honda odessey. I requested a moon roof as a Honda option. I was not told that this was not an option on the model that I had selected. I was given an after market moon roof. I went back to the dealer to have an over head dvd player installed and I was told that the main overhead beam was cut to install the moon roof and that what was left of the beam was not strong enough to hold the dvd player. I began to question the quality of work that was done to install the moon roof and I was then told it was after market. I asked the dealer and Honda to certify that the installation was safe. They both refused. I have since explained my concerns about the safety of the vehicle especially in turn over situations. Honda and the dealership has refused to do anything. I am very concern about the installation and I want Honda to take back the vehicle since I bought Honda but I was sold a Honda vehicle with an after market moon roof. Not only this but I don't have a Honda warranty on the moonroof. The only warranty I have is with the dealership. I am currently pregnant and I already have 2 children. The minivan is a vehicle for my family. I don't think the Mini van is safe in case of a crash or roll over. I say this because if the beam is not strong enough to hold a dvd player then in case of a roll over or crash the roof will come in on me and my children.

15 Visibility problem of the 1998 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/17/2003

Visor on driver side broke while driver was attempting to put it down to block the sun. When it broke, it dangled in front of the driver and blocked the driver's vision of the road. Fortunately, the driver was able to grab the visor and hold it out of the way and regain sight of the road before causing an accident. The supporting metal arm separated at the point where the wire for the mirror light exits the arm. It would appear that there was a defect in the design and the casting.

16 Visibility problem of the 1998 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/25/2000

The sun visor snapped off while being adjusted. It broke due to metal fatigue at the place where the power cord for the vanity mirror light exited the support shaft. The stress concentration caused by this exit hole guarantees that this part will fail. This could easily cause fatal accidents if it happened at high speed.
