Gas gauge is not reading correctly. Gas tank holds 21. 2 gallons, yet when the gauge reads 1/4, it only takes 8 gallons to fill. Do a 360 turn, the gauge goes from an indicated 1/2 full to empty, then low fuel light comes on. As I straighten out the gauge takes about 10 minutes to recover. I find this is a common problem with this class of automobile. Isuzu rodeo, amigo, and other Honda Passports, 1998 to present. I've been quoted between $500 - $700 to fix. From my research, the fix may last only 30k miles.

I am having problems with the fuel gauge. I feel like I should be betting in las vegas since I never have an idea about how much gas I have in the tank. Since it is extremely erratic - bouncing to empty to full - even after I have filled up. I haven't taken it in yet, as I having been researching the problem, which seems to be quite common in the Honda Passport and its identical twin the isuzu rodeo.

The fuel gauge does not work properly. Reads empty at least 11 gallons before truly is empty. This is a manufacturer's defect. Running out of gas is not safe as well as the harm it does to the vehicle. Many complaints from other consumers about the same problem.
When fuel gauge reads full fuel in gas tank will drop to half rapidly.
The sending unit on the fuel gauge of my 2000 Honda Passport is faulty. I understand that there is a recall on this part for 98-99 Passport/rodeo's, but not one for the 2000 model year which has the exact same unit and should be affected by the same recall.
Gas gauge is consistently reading empty - even when fuel tank is full. Appears to be fuel sending unit mentioned on isuzu rodeo site as well.
My fuel gauge has started fluctuating wildly. The most common thing though, is that it reads out of gas shortly after a fill up. This is the same model as an isuzu rodeo and the problems are duplicated there. I want to make sure a recall happens and that it covers the Hondas as well.
Your technical service bulletin #202, of Feb 16, 2002, explains a problem I have with my 1999 Honda Passport, where the fuel gauge reads an empty or low fuel warning, even when it is not in danger of being empty. The correction will cost in excess of $500. 00. This is an outrageous condition and repair to require the owner to cover, when it is obvious it was a defect when manufactured. Please help to correct manufacturer over sights like this when selling a long-term item like a car or truck. I am very happy with my vehicle otherwise, and would hate to help blemish the reputation of Honda and it's products. But this is unacceptable as a failure due to normal wear and tear.
The fuel gauge reads empty on my vehicle even when the tank is completely full. This condition has existed for over 60,000 miles and I have not had it serviced because the dealer wants $700 for parts and labor and informed me that they will be using the exact same parts that might fail again.
Fuel gauge does not read accurately. Nlm.
Fuel gauge sensor failed. Yh.
Fuel sending unit / fuel pump failed.
When fuel gauge reads full the tanks fuel will drop to half rapidly. Cause of the failure is undetermined at this time.
Would either be waiting at stop sign/light when vehicle, for no reason, would shut down. Vehicle can be restarted. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and was informed by mechanic that ecm would need to be updated along with fuel sending unit.
Consumer noticed the fuel gauge always read empty. The consumer contacted the dealer about the problem and was told the problem could be fixed at the owners expense. The consumer felt this was a manufacturers defect and should not have to pay anything. Please provide details.
Fuel gauge neddle malfunctioned. Yh.
