1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/28/2021

Since I purchased the car, the wheels make a cracking noice when turning and braking. Took it to the dealer 2-3 times and they told me they could not find anything that it may just be the brake pads sticking some times. Now at 55,000 miles the power steering eps and all other lights came on like a christmas tree. This had not happened in the past. I have read up on it and others have had the same problem. My main concern since I purchased it was that cracking noise when turning when backing up or turning when going forward. This only happens on starting to drive not at fast speeds. Now all the lights are on and don't know what the issue is. From research it seems like it may be something with the fuel injectors. My car is already past it's warranty.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2019 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

When applying the brakes, the brake pedal is low/soft. Also, when in stop-n-go traffic and applying the brakes, the brakes pedal goes lower and I have to press harder on the brakes. I took my car to stevens creek Honda in calif and they bled my brakes this helped a little but did not solve the problem. I called the next day to have my brakes looked at again for the same problem but the service manager said my brakes were normal. Now, I am going to upgrade my front pads with a non-Honda brake pad. I hope this works and does not void my warranty. Honda uses low grade pads I believe because the low beam headlight on the ex-l uses a low watt (low grade) light bulb making driving a night dangerous since it is hard to see. I had to upgrade the low beam bulbs for the same reason I have to upgrade the pads: safety. Please help. The 2019 Honda Pilot brakes are a known safety problem. . Read more...

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/15/2018

This will be the 3rd time in less than 80,000 miles that I have had to have the brake rotors and pads replaced due to the brakes excessive steering shake at any speed. This condition has to be due to a structural problem with the brake hardware making it both costly and dangerous. Dealership wants to take my money and ignore the problem.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2015 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/14/2018

Vehicle started vibrating violently when braking at about 65000 miles. I decided to take to Honda in dublin OH and they recommended to replace all brake pads and resurface all rotors. I also decided to flush brake fluid. I saw another complaint and thought I should do the same.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

I have a 2013 Honda Pilot ex 4wd with 52,610 miles on it. In very cold weather (around 5 degrees f or less) the brakes don't function correctly when the car is first started. There is a lot of pedal resistance and it only goes down about a third of the way or less. During this time, the brakes are barely engaging (it takes 3 feet to make a stop that would normally only take 6 inches). Then suddenly the pedal will go down all of the way and the brakes will be working. Sometimes it corrects itself almost right away on the first push, other times it takes several minutes to correct. In all but one occasion, this happened while parked, however, it has happened once on the road on an extremely cold (sub 0 f) day (notably on that day it had been stored inside overnight prior to the trip). Note that this is not an abs type experience (where you are pushing the pedal hard because the abs is activating) in my case the pedal is barely going down, and the brakes are barely engaging. The vehicle has been twice inspected by a Honda dealer, and they replaced the brake fluid and both front and rear brake pads, but it still happens. The challenge is that it does not happen all of the time, so it is hard to duplicate for the dealer. . Read more...

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/23/2017

Purchased our 2017 Pilot straight from dealer in Feb 2017; by summer, brakes would squeak when pressure applied - got much worse over time. Sent multiple videos over next 12 months, had car in for repair at least once a month - service dept could never resolve issue, despite replacing brake pads and entire brake system. Per dealership, american Honda motors refuses to acknowledge problem despite dealership doing so.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

After only 25000 miles, when braking, steering wheel vibrates excessively. Stopping vehicle from higher speeds dangerous as car steering becomes unsteady. Diagnosed warped front rotors. Normal city driving. Replaced rotors and pads. Vibration is now gone.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/13/2017

My Honda has 60k miles on it. In October, I noticed vibration and shaking when braking at high speeds. I had my pads replaced and my rotors machined. Here it is a few months later and I'm having the same issues, the car shakes and vibrates severely when going downhill.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Pilot. When the vehicle was in reverse or drive, the contact heard a clicking noise coming from the brakes. The dealer diagnosed that the brake pads needed lubricant. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,858.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

When driving on the highway and braking the steering wheel shakes. Confirmed by dealership: warped rotors/ limited brake pad use: to be precise 2 millimeters of brake pad use. Mileage is under 26,000, 2 & 1/2 year old car. I am an average driver. In my opinion to have the rotors warp with limited use on the brake pads leads me to believe that the rotors were defective from the start. However the dealership is stipulating wear and tear with a $600 bill including replacing my limited worn brake pads. I'm sure I am not the only owner with this defect. Absolutely absurd!.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/21/2014

When I purchased the vehicle new in may 2012, there was a severe 'pulsing' vibration when braking from speeds > 60mph. I took the vehicle back to the dealer, they said this was because it sat on the lot without being moved, and 'machined' the rust off the rotors, which seemed to have fixed the problem. Now the problem has reappeared at approximately 35000-40000 miles. Again the dealer says it is a problem with the rear rotors, and they need to be resurfaced and the brake pads replaced. I owned a 2004 Pilot and never experienced this problem with it in the 100,000 miles I drove it. My driving habits have not changed. There seems to be some sort of problem with the brake rotors on this model - braking distance is longer than my prior model and the vibration/pulsing is significant enough to cause a concern for safety.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

When braking at speeds above 50 mph, there is a vibration at the steering wheel. I brought the vehicle to a Honda dealer and was told the front rotors should be refaced when the car needs new brake pads. I have had a 2006,2009, and 2012 Pilot. My driving habits have not changed, the mileage per year is consistent, and there has been no hard or excessive braking. I have not had this problem with the other model years. So, what's the problem? are the current rotors thinner or inferior?.

13 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

Purchased a 2011 certified used Honda Pilot in June 2013, 20,200 miles, after reading reviews stating the reliability. Within a couple of months, notices a vibration when braking. Honda service station said the rotors are warped and recommended resurfacing and new brake pads, but that the warranty wouldn't cover the cost. Called Honda and they verified the problem wasn't covered by warranty - normal wear and tear. Shortly after, the vehicle began pulling with every bump in the road. In addition, the transmission began slipping, jerking, and jumping into higher gear when coasting to a stop. Took the vehicle back to the Honda service station and was told that in addition to the rotor issue, the tires were unevenly worn and should be replaced (24,000 miles). They recommended having an alignment. Was also told there is nothing wrong with the transmission, which clearly isn't the case. Took the vehicle to a local service station for alignment, tire rotation, and balance and was told the alignment and balance were only slightly off and having them done didn't correct the problem. They also stated the rotors should be covered by warranty because there was no reason for them to warped at such a low mileage. Between the transmission and suspension problems the vehicle feels unsafe to drive. I'm very uncomfortable driving it even on a short highway trip. A very expensive, unreliable vehicle.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/21/2012

While I was driving approx 40 mph my 2005 Honda Pilot's brakes engaged on their own. The brakes stuck to the floor and the car jetted to the left into the median while stopping. During the event there was a loud groaning noise that was coming from the front end of the vehicle. I made my way into a gas station and turned off the vehicle. I restarted the car and proceeded home when it happened again 1/2 mile later at 30 mph, brakes to the floor, loud groaning sound. At this point I was terrified as my 3yr daughter was in the car and we were in the middle of rush hour. The vsa light popped on after the second event. Car was immediately taken to the shop where we were told by the technician who inspected and drove the vehicle that he was able to replicate the event 2x. They stated we had a problem w/the vsa or abs system and we had to take it to the Honda dealer. The technician also noted that when they hooked the car up to the computer there was a time when the abs system was reading "no data". The car was taken to Honda the next day and we were told we did not have a problem w/our abs or vsa system. They were also unable to replicate the problem. Honda concluded that my brake pads/rotors & tires needed replaced. The original shop we took it to stated our brakes and tires were fine and would not contribute to the problem we were having. We trustedhonda and completed the repairs they requested outside of the dealership. New brakes & tires on the vehicle and we have had 4 add. 'l incidents since these ?repairs? have been made. All of the info we received from the first shop that inspected the vehicle was relayed to Honda numerous times and they were adamant that we did not have a vsa or abs problem. Clearly they were wrong. We are taking it back to the dealer next Tuesday . The vehicle remains unsafe to drive and we are very displeased at how Honda is handling the situation.

15 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/23/2012

2011 Honda Pilot experiencing a severe vibration issues when applying the brakes when traveling at highway speeds (45mph+). The vehicle stability, steering and control do not feel safe under these conditions. We first identified the problem with Honda at 39000 miles in 2012 and they balanced the tires. Brought to Honda's attention again at 69000 miles in augst 2013. They replaced the front and rear brake pads and resurfaced front and rear the rotors for a charge of $478. Still experiencing at 80000 miles and they said we need new front rotors ($440) and need to replace compliance arm bushings (found compliance bushings split and torn) for $736. 95. Please investigate as a serious defective issue that perhaps warrants a recall.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

When applying the brakes at any speed over 50 mpg, the steering wheel shakes like an earthquake. Dealer said brakes were fine and that there was no issue. Next trip the dealer said the brakes might need to be redone (22k miles really?) and that the rotors were warped. Repairs would not be covered under warranty or extended warranty. This is obviously a defect and needs to be handled by Honda. Now approaching 40k miles and the probelm is making me nuts. I'm going to wind up paying out of pocket for their poor design. I just hope the new rotors & pads on the front end will make it go away.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/09/2012

A few weeks ago, I being to notice the steering wheel vibrates and wobbles upon applying the brake at 60+ mph on our new Honda Pilot we purchased a little over a year. Concern for my safety and my family, I took the vehicle back to the dealer and they mentioned the forward rotors needed to be machined and was not covered by factor warranty and would cause $220 to do the job. I spoke with the service manager and dealer manager and they both would not offer to honor there 3 years or 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty to fix the issue. I decided to google for Honda Pilot 2011 owners with similar issues and sure enough I was not alone on this issue, just reviewing only two forums I saw over 50 replies on similar issues as to mine for new Honda Pilots. I strongly believe there is a possible defect in the material used for the brake pads or rotors on these Pilots to be experiencing rotor issues with less than 20,000 miles to be . Please, I would like for further investigating and inquiries into this matter be taken for the sake of all our safety. Thank you in advance.

18 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

The vehicle steering vibrates vilonently when braking during 50+ mph. Dealer found the rear rotors to be warped and replace them along with brake pads, the problem remains and gets progressively worse. Additionally, the braking response is extremely sluggish and requires extreme distance and pressure to stop the vehicle. This coupled with the vibration or the premature warped rotors and warn brakes are a combination for tragedy. Several Pilot owners are experiencing this very same issue and Honda should be able to correct by replacing the parts with adequate rotors that can support and safely stop the system when braking without feeling like the SUV is going to become discombobulated on the road. I wouldn't be surprise if this problem was one of the factors that cause the tragic accident in the bronx earlier this year. The vibration and lack of stoping power is a catalyst for disaster. I am so concern about the situation that I drive the car with extreme caution in the highway because I'm afraid of getting to an accident, I can't wait to get out of my lease because I don't trust the vehicle. It's a real misfortune because overall its a great vehicle with the exception of the severe problem.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/29/2010

The brakes in my 2005 Honda Pilot suddenly apply themselves. Over the past 4 years, this has happened to me 3 times when I tapped the brake pedal and once just driving down the road. My wife recently had it happen once to her just after taking off from a stop sign. It happened to me while driving down the road at between 40 and 50 miles per hour. I've seen this problem reported on other web sites. . . One was going 60 when it happened. Two Honda dealers did diagnostics and found nothing. They could not "reproduce the problem". . . No surprise since it's random! the last time (incident date below) my wife was out of town had the car towed to the second dealer. (the brake pads were replace by them but we've put less than 150 miles on it since then. ) I believe this is not related to the mechanics since it happens suddenly and unexpectedly under different conditions. . . But who knows.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/29/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. While driving approximately 45 mph, she noticed that the brakes had suddenly seized and would not allow the vehicle to be moved in any direction. The dealer replaced the brake pads and rotors; however, the failure continued to occur. The current mileage was 45000 and the failure mileage was 35000.

21 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/21/2009

I have severe brake shuttering and the steering wheel shakes when I apply the brakes. It starts out as a minor shudder and shake at first, and then over time gets progressively worse, until it is quite vigorous. A little background: the car is a Honda certified car- 2004 Pilot I bought 2 years ago. As a condition of the sale, the dealer (sam swope in louisville, ky) said they would fix a shimmy in the steering wheel, and a grinding of the brakes. They said it was a minor problem. The brakes were repaired 2 weeks before I bought the car. I brought the car back 4 days later and the rotors were resurfaced. Everything was fine for a couple of weeks, and then the problem started coming back- slowly at first and then got progressively worse. 3 months later they resurfaced the rotors. The same problem progressed again, and 3 months later, they replaced the rear brake pads and resurfaced the rotors again. I put up with a shimmy in the wheel as the problem occurred again . Finally, after about 8 months, my wife couldn't take the shimmy any more and made me take it in again. I was reluctant because each time I took it in nothing happened, and I'd already spent over $700 to no avail. Once again the rotors were resurfaced, the front pads were replaced and the emergency brake drum was turned. Two months later I brought the car in for the same problem, and was told the rotors need to be resurfaced again. I called Honda customer service on 4/21/09, talked to tina and she said I would likely be denied any help by walter menigvar the exec. Review manager because Honda corporate considers the brakes to be a repair item. I believe there is an inherent problem with this vehicle and possibly it's design, as I have driven numerous cars over 29 years- many of those miles in the mountains of wva, and have never encountered a problem of this sort. I have also heard about other Honda Pilots with this problem. I also think it is unsafe.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

I felt violent shaking when applying the brakes. I took the car to the dealer service shop and was told that the rotors were worn. They would have to be resurfaced and new brake pads applied. This has happened 3 times within 18 months. The first time it occurred, the car was under warranty. The second time it happened, the car had been driven 15,000 miles since it had been repaired when the issue started happening again and the car was not under warranty any longer. It has been approximately 4 to 5 months since the problem was repaired the second time when it started happening again. Honda service manager stated that this was a frequent problem with the 2007 Honda Pilot. Service manager told me that they never had a problem with the rotors warping until Honda changed its design for the rotors for the 2007 Pilot.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/22/2008

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the brakes engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but the failure could not be replicated. The brake pads were replaced but the failure recurred. The manufacturer had not been notified of the issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 175,000.

24 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Pilot. While driving approximately 20 mph the contact heard a squeaking sound while depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brake pads and rotors were replaced. Approximately two weeks after the vehicle was repaired the failure continued to occur. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic where the brakes were sprayed with a brake substance;however, the contact continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
