We've had our Pilot for 8 or 9 months and we've already had to have the home link button replaced, the alignment done twice and now the master cylinder is failing. We are taking it in today to have the master cylinder replaced. It was not properly pressurizing the brake lines and was causing a wobbling in the brakes at higher speeds. The dealership has been a real pain to work with and did not diagnose the issue until months later when it happened on a ridgeline. Last Honda I'll ever buy.

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed and the passenger side caliber was smoking. The contact had to restart the vehicle to release the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake pads, calibers, master cylinder, and emergency brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

When brakes were applied, brake pressure did not engage. Had to pump brakes to get them to work. The problem became more frequent. Eventually discovered premature failure of the brake master cylinder.

The contact owns a 2009 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, he depressed the brake pedal when it abnormally traveled to the floor board. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the master cylinder was replaced. After the repair the failure continued and the vehicle was taken to two different dealers. The technicians stated that the calipers, master cylinder, and abs system would have to be replaced. In addition, the brake system was contaminated due to the type of brake fluid that the contact added to the vehicle. After obtaining a third diagnosis from a different dealer, the contact was informed that only the abs system would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 41,010.

Brake pedal was spongy and seemed to go down too far. While stopped with the brake pedal pressed and maintaining a constant pressure on the pedal it would slowly go all the way to the floor. Dealer checked it out and said master cylinder was defective and replaced same. Approximately 4 weeks later while driving at approximately 65 mph a loud roaring sound was noticed and then a very noticeable vibration began. Pulled over and checked tires and noticed a smell that was almost like something burning. The Honda dealer was close by so I drove it to the dealer and left it there again. After checking the vehicle, they decided the problem was caused by caliper slide pins not releasing. The master cylinder was adjusted along with the brake pedal height and free play. It is now 1 week since that work was performed and once again the brake pedal goes to the floor with constant pressure applied while stopped at a traffic light.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Pilot. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the brakes engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the vehicle stability assist (vsa) master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Prior to the failure, the brake switch was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but they offered no assistance to the contact. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2004 Honda Pilot. While driving at
speeds of 35 mph and applying the brakes to approach a traffic stop, the brakes did not engage. The contact immediately shifted into a lower gear as the vehicle proceeded through the traffic stop, barely avoiding a crash. The dealer performed a diagnostic and found the master cylinder had failed. The master cylinder was replaced by the dealer however; the contact stated the repair did not address the failure. The dealer was unable to locate the exact cause of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileages were 29000.

2005 Honda Pilot ex with less than 500 miles on it. . ~90% brake failure on vehicle on two occasions. . . 06/15/2005 and 06/24/2005. Taking to Honda of concord (concord nc) to be reviewed. . . May or may not repair depending on if they can "duplicate" the problem but are aware of some cases of the master cylinder going completely out for a "moment". Alerting you all in case this happens to others and to have on record.
While parked in a lot the vehicle caught on fire . The cause has yet to be determined. The fire department stated that it was an electrical failure, but was not sure. Consumer stated there was no indication of any problem. No hesitation nor any warning lights. The vehicle had less than 1000 miles when the master cylinder failed.
